Sylvan Park Wine Bar and Pizzeria Nonna’s Calls it Quits - Eater Nashville

"Nonna’s Pizzeria & Wine Bar, located beside Caffe Nonna at 4427A Murphy Road in Sylvan Park, first opened in 2012. They served wood-fired pizzas, bruschetta, salads, and pastas. The decision to close was made by the family after the loss of a business partner in 2018, and the venue officially closed on January 1." - Delia Jo Ramsey

Google
Always delicious. We met a friend there tonight for a lovely dinner. For years Cafe Nonna and Nonna's Pizza were a fixture in the local food scene before local became cool. You can always count on great food and a friendly staff. And, now my fave pizza, the 3 Grace's, can be ordered on a GF crust. Pears, aruguls, proscuitto....delicious! Thank you! Best sangria in town as well. Like in most of Nashville, parking in Sylvan Park isn't great, but you can always find a spot close by.

Google
The service was awesome. I ordered a blackened chicken Alfredo that was flavored perfectly, the chicken was a very small portion that was sliced very thin. It was so thin that it was dry and crispy.

Google
Run down and dingy, food was not good at all. We had been waiting years to come here after we saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and it was a huge let down. The food was overpriced and lacked flavor, and the water glasses on the patio tables were dirty. Wouldn't go back.

Google
Food was good in the end, but with a party of 9 it took them over an hour to bring us food. Then towards the end of the meal they forgot to bring us a bottle of wine

Google
I really loved it the first time I came in but when I went back just now on Monday at 1pm they were closed even though the hours said they were open. Always disappointing.

Yelp
I loved this little place! I came with a group of 6 on a Saturday night. They were actually pretty full, however the hostess said a group of 6 just cancelled their table so we got to snatch it up, and we only had to wait a few minutes. The inside was so authentic feeling and cute, and there was also outdoor seating. The menu was little but plenty of great options and you have the option to build your own pasta, if desired. The wine was good and the food tasty as can be. I will be coming back!

Yelp
We were warmly greeted upon arrival, and though we had made a reservation, it's worth noting that the restaurant is small, so reservations are highly recommended. The restaurant itself is charming, and we were seated in the heated outdoor area, which was thoughtfully arranged with pillows and cushions to make it warm and cozy. We were offered bread at the start, and while we accepted, we were surprised to find a charge for it on the bill, as this was not mentioned upfront. For our main course, my friend and I both opted for the "make your own pasta" option, which offered plenty of choices and made for a fun, customizable dining experience. My friend chose the fettuccine, which had a bold garlic flavor and was very tasty. I went with the spicy vodka sauce, which was a bit spicier than I prefer but still delicious. I also added a side of chicken, but while the menu listed both breaded and fried options, our waiter informed us only fried chicken was available. While fried chicken isn't the best pairing with Italian pasta, it was decent. Service-wise, our waiter was friendly when taking our order and settling the bill, but he didn't check in often, and our water glasses were not refilled during the meal. Overall, we had an enjoyable experience and found the food delicious. While it's a bit on the pricey side, we'd definitely return for another visit.

Yelp
Caffé Nonna is such a bustling local spot in a walking neighborhood. Paid parking lots are nearby. The menu isn't overwhelming so it makes it easy to choose. I love that they have a mix and match on the backside to create your own pasta, which is what I did. The limoncello is great! I recommend making a reservation.

Yelp
Oh my! Not sure what I was expecting but whatever it was, it exceeded any expectation. The "Caffé" part had me thinking it was a coffee house... negative. It's a culinary experience. It has an outside patio that it can be covered for rainy/cold days. We didn't have a reservation but I would encourage to have one if your party is larger than two people. The food was AMAZING! We tried just a couple plates as we had had dinner (again, I thought it was a coffee house) but I could've order the entire menu. It was the most authentic Italian food I've found in Nashville. Parking can be hectic but with a little bit of luck you can find a close by street parking spot. The staff was visibly tired as we got there by the end of the night. They were not bad but neither helpful when I asked for suggestions. But the food made the whole experience. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
I've driven by Caffé Nonna countless times and finally got to stop in and try it! The arancini was perfection! The lasagna was good, in my opinion nothing special. We did sit and wait quite a while for anyone to come to our table when we first got seated and our service continued to be ok, but not great. The food is a bit expensive for what it is and I probably won't be back anytime soon.

Yelp
Man oh man. I will say I'm a pasta and Italian food snob being from NJ. But this place is not it. We did not have the best experience food wise. The staff was amazing and very attentive. The restaurant itself was a very romantic spot great for a date night. If only the food was elevated to how much we spent. We left spending about 100 bucks for two pasta dishes and an appetizer which is a little ridiculous. Italian food should never be this expensive. They will nickel and dime you for every add on even cheese. The pasta lacked in flavor, the sauce was very runny with no substance to it. Was very confused by my wife's meal as well. She ordered an Alfredo dish with breaded chicken, the chicken tasted and had the consistency of frozen Purdue chicken you throw in the oven. Was really disappointed with the quality, wanted to love this place because of the good reviews. I'd probably recommend another place if you're looking for authentic Italian in Nashville.

Yelp
What a delicious meal! I tried the basil gimlet, Caesar salad and then then the gluten free penne with Mariana and meatballs. I so appreciated the gluten free options, including bread. The food was fresh and had rich flavors. The portions were large even for the small salad, which I was able to easily share with another person. The owner came by and said hi as well. I think I've found my new go-to Italian restaurant!
google avatar

Sydney U.

Yelp
The most delicious pasta at the cutest little restaurant. There is both indoor and outdoor seating with cute string lights outside. The bread was $3 but so worth it, they have a rosemary and a sesame bread. Both of the pasta dishes we had were phenomenal! We had red wine which was also very tasty. I would highly recommended Caffe Nonna if you are wanting Italian food!

Britney P.

Yelp
I'm embarrassed to admit that I hadn't been to Caffé Nonna after three years of living in Nashville until yesterday! An incredibly cozy spot, great service, and delicious food. We will be back for sure.

Yelp
We had reservations for 7:45 pm on Tuesday & were greeted by a super friendly & welcoming host. Immediately we felt like family & were sat quickly. Honestly love the cozy vibe & ambience of the restaurant. The food & service the rest of the unfortunately did not live up to expectations. My water had a piece of foil or metal floating around in it. Despite being a very small restaurant, I had to seek out a waiter to refill my water twice after it sat empty for 10+ minutes each time. The bread was served cold, not room temp, but cold as if it was taken out of the fridge. We got the Tuscan bruschetta which I mostly enjoyed. Slightly on the saltier side but good flavor. No complaints on the entree. Meatballs, pasta, gnocchi, and the sun dried tomato sauce was delish as well as my wife's pasta. Last issue is the chocolate dipped cannolis. There are no regular cannolis on the menu which made us suspect that these are likely not homemade & from an outside source. The cannolis were soggy & had condensation on them, indicating that they were likely taken out of the fridge & pre-filled (which everyone knows should be a no no!) The cream filling definitely wasn't classic & had a lemon flavoring(?) which wasn't great. Having had great Italian up in Little Italy in NYC earlier this year, idk if it was just our expectations being very high, but this wasn't the authentic Italian we were hoping for.

Yelp
We were visiting from out of town, on a Thursday night we ate at Caffe Nonna. It was busy. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We had a reservation, I would recommend making one. The heart of palm salad was tasty. The lasagna bolognese was good as well as the bread. The portions were a good size. Our waiter was attentive and the staff were friendly. The restaurant is not large but had outdoor seating with heating. We sat inside and the furniture needs some care, the bench I sat on the material was really worn. The bathroom needs to be cleaned.
google avatar

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place, but it disappointed. I ordered the Alfredo pasta. The pasta wasn't cooked completely and the Alfredo sauce was runny and lacked flavor. We got fried calamari, it was ok. My husband got spaghetti and meatballs and just wasn't enjoyable. We really wanted to like this place with the amazing reviews.

Scottie H.

Yelp
Awesome food and great service. Parking is rough so Uber or plan to walk a bit. Welcome to Nashville restaurant parking.

Yelp
Absolutely enjoyed my experience at Cafe Nonna. Great service all around. I loved the ambiance of the place and although I had dinner alone I never felt that awkwardness like in other restaurants. Lastly, the scallops were the highlight for me... whoever did that needs to go teach Hells Kitchen a few things. 11/10!

Randall G.

Yelp
Great food and great service! I wish we had come here sooner. Definitely now on the short list of places to eat.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Homemade pastas and sauces were yummy! Service also was very good.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious fresh pasta and incredible service. Super small restaurant but the most homey vibes. My friend and I decided to build our own dish and it was *chefs kiss* Our server was super knowledgeable about the wine list and was able to make an amazing recommendation. So tasty and definitely worth a stop. Parking is a little difficult. Free parking is extremely limited and paid parking is around $15.

Yelp
We showed up on a Saturday during peak hours with 6 people and got lucky to be seated immediately (another party of 6 was a no show). The staff was incredibly knowledgeable, very friend and accommodating. I highly recommend the seafood bruschetta and the Arancini. You can easily split them as an app with a buddy, but I want to go back and just have those two items as my meal. They were rich and very filling. The seafood Angelina was an amazing wine sauce based pasta, also a recommendation from me. You have the option to built your own pasta, which is awesome if you have specific taste. But they have plenty of mouth watering options as their signature dishes. They have outdoor and indoor seating. The dining area reminds me of a quite authentic family restaurant right out of Italy. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the food here! Seating options were limited because it's a very cute small place, so reservations are a must especially for weekends. But the food was amazing as well as a great wine selection. Do recommend, especially the patio when the weather is nice! Service was also very friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
If I could give this place 10,000 stars I would. I went here for a date night and the food and the service was amazing. Our server was super nice knowledgeable and gave some of the best recommendations. He brought out two types of wines, when we asked for his recommendation and they were a 10 out of 10 we even had to ask for the bottle because we want to go buy it to take home. I ordered a Caesar salad, orecchiette pasta with the sun dried tomato sauce paired with the bramble berry/cherry sparkling wine. And for dessert we ordered a tiramisu and moscato wine. As for the ambiance we were seated in the outside patio (which is heated) and has light jazz music playing. I don't know if it was the rain the music or the good food but the setting was so romantic and made for a perfect date night. Finally, I would recommend making a reservation. We were able to reserve a spot the night before but I would assume they are busier around weekends and holidays!
google avatar

Nicki G.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Italian food this place is a gem. You will not be disappointed with the homemade pasta, amazing staff, and the most beautiful ambiance. Wish I lived in Nashville, I'd be back every weekend!
google avatar

Zachary B.

Yelp
We've been here several times now and this place feels very quaint in a great way. The owner is often there to say hello, the service is great, and the food hits the spot! Highly recommend as a great neighborhood haunt!

Yelp
Great service and nice music selection. This place was super cozy and intimate for my best friend's birthday celebration. We had a group of 6 and they were very accommodating. All of us grew up in Nashville and had no idea this place existed. We got calamari, bread and arancini for the table. Some ordered Caesar salads to start and I had the meatballs. I was so happy to hear their meatballs didn't contain pork! For my entree I got the lasagna (which I usually stay away from but I guess it's because I've never had a good lasagna before. Most of the time it's either too cheesy or the pasta is overbearing the other ingredients.) However, this lasagna was immaculate and cooked to perfection. Everything about it was perfect and balanced beautifully. My friend ordered the seafood bruschetta and 2 others did the build your own pasta while the birthday girl had the vegetarian lasagna. Everyone loved everything. This place is an amazing gem in Nashville.

Dr V.

Yelp
The bad : Not impressed with the food. Overall a small menu. Make your own pasta is good idea. Comp bread was fresh, nut not warm. They put balsamic vinegar in the oil for bread dipping. Not a fan. Tuscan bean soup a little too spicy. Caesar salad soggy. Chicken in Caesar only had fried breast and was dry. Pork loin was good. Pasta dishes were average. Crowded and tight seating. Minimal bar options, only had to types of bottled beer. The good : didn't have to wait for out reservation. Server was very good and attentive. Food came out quickly. We were seated, served and done eating in less then 45 minutes.

Yelp
We've been meaning to come here for a while, and wow it was amazing! The service was great. Our server was attentive and friendly. The food was unreal. We had the Arincini for appetizer, it was delicious. Then we each had a lasagna for dinner. I had the lasagna bolognese and my boyfriend had the lasagna nonna. Both were absolutely delicious, one of the best lasagnas we've ever had. Will definitely be coming back. It's a quaint little place that has a cozy feel. Loved it!

Joan H.

Yelp
Caffé Nonna is a super-friendly restaurant with a well curated menu. Both lasagnas are excellent. But I have been several times and have enjoyed everything I have eaten there. They have been helpful to our growing family, which includes young children. We will continue to eat in and take out from here.
google avatar

Claudine M.

Yelp
Bolognese lasagna and wine served on the patio was a lovely ambiance and service. Caffé Nonna Is a quaint little treasure in a sweet neighborhood.
google avatar

Meredith S.

Yelp
This is a small intimate restaurant. The furniture was dated, ripped bench that was too high for the table. Parking is behind the restaurant but I didn't know that so I ended up paying to park across the street. The service was good. The food was really good. Everyone voted my gnocchi with the sun dried tomato sauce the best dish at the table. I'm picky about gnocchi and I enjoyed this. I never take home left overs and I took these home. Great casual Italian spot.
google avatar

Rachael W.

Yelp
The most wonderful place in Nashville for a quiet dinner with friends. This little spot is the neighborhood Italian spot you've dreamed of.
google avatar

Latasha P.

Yelp
Server McKenzie was so nice! She helped me choose my dinner as I usually have two options that I am stuck on. I had fettuccine noodles with pesto sauce, chicken, and sun dried tomatoes. It was tasty once I added a little salt but I do wish I would have chosen one of the lasagnas. The wine was fresh and very good. The ambiance here is so cozy and cute. Overall I would definitely come back!
google avatar

Maya R.

Yelp
Oh my g-. Caffé Nonna you stole my heart and filled my belly; this was easily one of the best Italian meals I've ever had! From the flavor of the Seafood Bruschetta to start us off, to the Mix and Match Pasta I was amazed by the FLAVOR. The Spocy Vodka sauce was to DIE FOR!! Here's the thing that gives this place an edge, its quality and quantity. The seasonings, spices, sauces were so rich every dish tasted like it had been marinating for weeks, months even. In addition, you get just enough food to fill you up but not become overwhelming. It's such a cute, intimate spot where seating is closer than other places but gives you that true European-dining feel where a meal is not only a time for eating but also bonding! Waiters were so nice and helpful as it was my first time. As stated before, it's a more intimate setting so would say it's a perfect date night option or groups of max 5. Parking in a lot behind the building and street parking are available. I cannot wait to come back and try more.

Nhan V.

Yelp
Small home-style Italian. Not bad for Nashville. Overall would give it 7.5-8 out of 10. Good wine selection. Good service. Good recommendations. The mussels were the best part.
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
I would personally say best Italian I have had in Nashville. Awesome little restaurant that was very casual and relaxing. Was able to make a reservation online and they were ready when we got there. Everything that came out was amazing. The lasagna was amazing. We all shared a taste that everyone got and I would have ordered all of it. Service was fantastic. We will make this our go to Italian from now on.
google avatar

Cissy W.

Yelp
We are latecomers hopping on the bandwagon but happy we found it! Small space in Sylvan Park, serving up great limited Italian Menu. I appreciate a place that doesn't feel the need to serve everything but serves everything they do serve - WELL! Reservations strongly suggested, especially on weekends. Our server was top rate, the recommendations he made were spot on and the food was amazing. Sometimes words don't do justice so just check out the pictures or better yet, check out Caffé Nonna!
google avatar

Samantha V.

Yelp
So first when you walk in it immediately feels like a cozy family dining room. The owner was walking around making conversation with everyone and the waiters were super friendly and efficient. I had the lasagna Nonna which is large enough to split but I didn't let that stop me. It was delicious. Definitely would come back to try some more.
google avatar

Christina D.

Yelp
This inside of this restaurant is small, so definitely recommend a reservation if you're coming in the winter. In the summer, they have their patio open which offers significantly more seating. I came here few weeks ago and had an enjoyable experience. The staff was really helpful pick out a good selection to try. First, I had the Seafood Bruschetta. The pancetta on this was phenomenal! The feta, pesto, basil and white wine base mixed perfectly with it. The seafood with it was good as well though a little bland compared to the rest of the dish and I didn't love that the bread was super soggy, but it was still a good dish. Next, I had the Lasagna Nonna. Overall, it was good, but lacked a little something. Finally, for the dessert, I had the tiramisu. This was scrumptious dessert that I couldn't get enough of. This place has such a mom and pop feel to it that it makes for a great and authentic experience.
google avatar

Kayla C.

Yelp
This is a must try place in Nashville. Place your reservation and get ready to enjoy a filling yet savory Italian meal! The ambiance is sultry and perfect for a date night or family dinner. It's very intimate with low lighting. Parking is plentiful in the public lot nearby. Many wine options to pair with any pasta dish you desire. I can't wait to come back and try their Pesto sauce, it's a weekend favorite! You cannot go wrong with any choice on the menu!
google avatar

Casey P.

Yelp
We came here through a Groupon deal. It's a quaint little italian restaurant. We sat outside though, I would suggest sitting inside if you get cold easily. There's a small parking lot in the front but none was available so we ended up parking on the street about a block away. My boyfriend made reservations for 6:30pm and it was pretty packed so reservations are highly recommended. We had: mussels with fries - the mussels were a little overcooked and the fries were more like hash browns but very dry and not very good. lamb shank - this was pretty good. It was tender and had great flavor. seafood pasta - this was just ok. Nothing impressive about it.

Bill G.

Yelp
Just lovely from meeting William, the owner to the end of dinner. Please go and their marinara is exceptional!!

Casey F.

Yelp
As someone with celiac I have missed Italian food. They have gluten free pasta and it was good
google avatar

Danielle B.

Yelp
We keep coming back to this charming neighborhood pasta spot. Last time we sat on the covered porch, had some wine and listened to the rain. Date night hall of fame. Consistently delicious pasta, 10/10 cozy vibes, and hospitality from each individual staff member at every interaction. Feels like everyone cares, and there's definitely passion behind the people running this place. Also, would be perfect for a rehearsal dinner or anniversary party.

Donna T.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant. Get a reservation early! We had a party of 8, we were treated wonderful and everyone's dish was delicious. This was the best meal I have had in years! The bread was fresh and hot and soft, everyone's cocktail was great and my seafood bruschetta was over the top. It had shrimp, scallops and the most incredible sundried tomatoes. The Amareto sour was also the best drink my sister had ever had. I will be going back to this lovely place several times. The owner came over and welcomed us and the hostess was a sweetheart. Thank you Caffe Nonna for a culinary delight!
google avatar

TLeah E.

Yelp
Loved the food!! Definitely recommend:) wanna go back with my close friends^^ the main hostess as well as the other staff were all very kind and patient. I didn't know that you needed a reservation at night. It was so busy. Worth the wait. Pasta melts in your mouth ^^ I was happy to talk with some of the patrons while waiting. Learned that the food portions were quite big and both couple had been coming to Caffé Nonna for years and definitely recommended. Glad to hear about the restaurant from Offline -- lived here all my life and never heard of it. The hostess said they were busier than usual. When I finally was able to sit I was served right away. I would say that it was an average loudness. Not too loud that you couldn't hear yourself think.
google avatar

Ellie Y.

Yelp
Awesome experience! We started with the arancini and Cesar salad, then split the Roma mussels and lasagna bolognese. Topped it off with pistachio gelato. Awesome, fresh, delicious food. Cozy and inviting atmosphere. Cafe Nonna is under new ownership and the newfound care and dedication shows through and through. They are making some nice updates to the space as well! looking forward to the new bar seating and expanded patio area!
google avatar

Ashley E.

Yelp
Caffé Nonna was a great experience. We didn't have a reservation but they worked us in so we are thankful for that! Parking wasn't bad as there is all kinds of street parking and paid lots near by. The vibes were classic and homey! Our server was fantastic and recommended a delicious wine and other great options. I did the mix and match pasta with ravioli/vodka cream sauce/meatballs, and let me just say... I cleaned my plate. I will be back!

Cari H.

Yelp
Café Nonna was great! Small Italian restaurant with indoor and patio dining. The food was delicious and the service was great!

Yelp
Tucked away in a strip of restaurants and shops on Murphy Road in Sylvan Park, Caffe Nonna has never caught my attention. After finishing my first meal there, I can't believe it's taken me this long to try it. The interior of the restaurant is small and cozy. Making a reservation is almost a necessity to avoid a wait. The waiters and waitresses were all very kind and attentive, checking on us throughout the course of our meal. For my entree, after much deliberation, I decided on the Lasagna Nonna. I thought if it had "Nonna" in the name, it must be a good bet. And that gamble paid off. This lasagna was SO GOOD. It was packed with a plethora of flavors, but they all played well together near flawlessly. The blend of the house marinara sauce and the parmesan cream sauce was delectable. The lasagna noodles were cooked perfectly, separated by layers of spinach and ricotta cheese. I didn't pick up on the butternut squash, but I'm sure it was in there somewhere. I've had several vegetarian lasagnas over the years, but this one tops them all. There were several other enticing items on the menu that I will try when we return.
google avatar

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! I couldn't put my fork down even though my belly was begging me too because I was so full. The portions are huge and the drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts are ALL amazing! The host Joe was very friendly and approachable. The other waiters John being one of them made sure to ask if we wanted to take a look at the menu while waiting. Even though they were very busy, we only had a ten minute wait. Our waitress McKenzie was so sweet and recommended delicious foods. If I lived in Nashville I would come here all the time!
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
10/5 Experience The staff was great. Upon our arrival we were greeted with legitimate smiles. Would recommend making a reservation, although there was very little wait for walk-ins (think ~5mins). The staff was happy and friendly, the service was perfectly timed, and the food was some of the best in Nashville. We ordered the Seafood Bruschetta, Lasagna Nonna, & Lamb Shank. Prices are great for what they are serving. Favorite place in Nashville.
