I am the "very sweet daughter" haha. While I thank you for that compliment, I also feel inclined to write in response to both of these reviews, as I no longer work in the family business (I was only ever there weekends.) I don't necessarily feel that my comment will pose a conflict of interest, as I am not technically what you would consider an employee. I would firstly like to say that the "woman", who I am sorry to see you have had some unfortunate exchanges with, is not actually my mother (although I do admit that we resemble each other) nor is she the owner- the owner is actually my father; you may never have seen him as he hangs mostly in the back- "Wizard of Oz" style. I am delighted that you seem to enjoy what Nonno Ugo's has to offer, and there is much hard work from very decent people that goes into such a small operation. Unfortunately, due to the size of Nonno Ugo's, they cannot always accomodate the demand on a daily basis, nor are they able to always make everything in abundance if in some cases it will go to waste. I also believe that they do embody one of the few local specialty stores who strive to maintain their cultural background, while bringing the heart of the city in which they reside to the forefront of their everyday efforts. As a now adult, who practically grew up inside this tiny little store, I want to assure you that my family (my father) appreciates your patronage, and always welcomes suggestions/opinions. What is Philly if not a city of very strong opinions?! And on a more personal level, I hope that you continue to visit and always remember that places like Nonno Ugo's are part of a quickly dying breed, one which will be sorely missed by future generations. Thank you, and Go Birds!
