I'm making it my mission to spend more time in Doylestown and in doing so, I really want to put my money into the local economy. So, when my boyfriend and I were in desperate need of a caffeine boost after checking out some local stores, we decided to hit up Nonnos instead of the nearby Starbucks.
First thing to note, the store is small. You're not going to be able to spread out and get cozy here. So if you're missing the more chill hang-out vibe of the Zen Den, this isn't the spot for you. The narrow space between the tables and the counters also means the flow of foot traffic can be a bit challenging at times. They had an expansive menu, but I didn't feel like I had a chance to step back and really look at it before deciding, so I ended up picking a basic latte and missing out on something potentially more delicious. This is in no way the fault of the very pleasant and super busy employees there, just a location issue. Speaking of missing out on something yummy, keep in mind the gelato selection is spread out over two cases split by the counter in the middle, so you might want to check out both sides before committing.
There are signs everywhere telling you how many people are able to sit at each table (i.e. "This table is reserved for 2-4 people. Please do not add extra chairs") They also indicate that you can only sit for 60 minutes at a time. I understand they're trying to make the most of their space, but it does feel a bit unwelcoming and not everyone there followed the rules of the signs.
COVID safety-wise, the staff seemed to be very on top of cleaning and sanitizing tables and all of the pastries in the case were individually wrapped. I also noticed they fill your cannoli when you order them, rather than pre-filling and letting them get soggy and gross. That made my little Italian heart happy.
As for the coffee itself, it was perfectly fine. Didn't blow my mind, didn't disgust me. It was exactly as an iced latte should be. The price was a little higher than a chain coffee shop, but only by about a dollar or so, which is fine with me since we're shopping local. This is worth a stop to get your caffeine on and maybe grab a sweet bite, but plan to get it to go and get on with your shopping, don't plan on this as your next coffee date spot.
