We've all heard of the baseball saying, 3 strikes and you're out. Well, Noodle Dynasty almost struck out with two failed attempted to make the right dish!
Using the QR code on the table, I ordered the Dan Dan noodles. My wife was intrigued by the ingredients in the spicy beef noodle soup, though she's never been a fan of spicy food. To our surprise, the online ordering system allowed her to customize the dish by removing the spiciness, so she ordered it with wide flat noodles.
My Dan Dan noodles came out first. They had a bit of a kick--not overly spicy, but with that signature numbing flavor from Sichuan peppercorns. When my wife's order arrived, she took one sip of the broth and immediately tasted the heat, even though she had specifically selected "no spicy." The waiter took it back, and within five minutes returned with what they said was a corrected version--but this time, it came with thin noodles instead of the wide ones she requested.
We asked to speak to the manager and explained the situation. She told us that removing the spice from that dish wasn't actually possible. We showed her our order confirmation, which clearly stated "no spicy," and she acknowledged the issue. She assured us the next version would be right.
A short while later, she returned with a third attempt, which she claimed matched the order exactly. But this time, the noodles were all over the place--some were thin, and others were wider than the width of the fork. That kind of inconsistency wasn't even present in my mother-in-law's Lanzhou hand-pulled beef noodle soup, which also uses wide flat noodles--and we've never encountered this issue on previous visits.
To her credit, the manager did remove the cost of my wife's dish, but the experience left a bad taste overall. I don't plan to return unless it's for a special occasion.
