The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week, December 2019 - Eater LA

"Wonton-goers still weep for the loss of Noodle Boy, but so it goes in the cut-throat San Gabriel Valley restaurant scene. Taking over its space is Noodle Palace, a Shanxi-style restaurant serving an assortment of cold dishes, dumplings, and pancakes, along with signature knife-cut and hand-formed noodles. With so many flour-forward items to sample, it’s best to come in for lunch or dinner with two or three friends." - Eater Staff

Noodle place is such a humble little restaurant serves authentic Shanxi noodles dishes. And I cannot believe there could be such a restaurant outside of China offering that authentic and delicious Chinese food! My personal favorite is the house special fried noodle, it was so perfectly cooked and seasoned. Every one who likes noodles should try this place out!

Google
Fabulous little restaurant from shan xi province restaurant... wow! homemade noodles. Tender, springy.perfect .. in beef noodle soup, in pork belly gravy soup, and sesame sauce. The hot& sour soup was delicately flavored. Crispy marinated beef with crispy, flaky bun is also a must order. There's an appetizer cold buffet for $8.50/ plate with marinated seaweed, potatoes, brine cukes, wood ear fungus, etc. Plain cabbage stirfry is perfectly stirfried (lots of wok-chi).. crisp on outside, soft on inside. Everything very delicious. Wonderful service.

The food was absolutely incredible, bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked. Service was top-notch, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The ambiance felt cozy yet elegant, making it a great spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. Highly recommend trying the dessert menu—it’s a game-changer!

Google
Authentic ShanXi (山西) cuisine, with noodle as their specialty. Amazing noodle texture only you could find in China. Lamb tripes are delicious. Also, cold dishes/appetizers are self serve, you can pick what you want, grab a plate and load it up!

Noodle Palace is a small Chinese restaurant in Rosemead, CA. They specialize in Shanxi cuisine. I had lunch there on a Wednesday. One waitress ran back and forth between the dining area and the kitchen. She had a nice smile. I could see the action in the kitchen through a wide opening. I saw a little machine in action, doing Knife Cut Noodle. It was interesting. Their menu was simple. They had 8 different noodle bases: hand-pulling long, sheer-cut, cat-ear, knife-cut, hand-pull small piece, and the 2 others in Chinese. I ordered the hand-pulling long noodle. I was told that the whole bowl of noodle had only 1 long string of noodle. I tried to pull it up but could not find its end. I believed them. The noodle texture was amazingly firm and chewy. The Chinese Beef Hamburger and dumplings were good. I thought I knew Chinese food. I learned a new dish: 莜麵栲栳栳. I would translate it as Oat Basket Noodle. It had an interesting texture. However, trying it once is enough. I would not order it again. Overall, I will come back to try other dishes.

So delicious!!!! Super authentic and I love love the noodles! Big portion for a cheap price.

Google
Pretty authentic noodle place, good portion for their prices. Came here for the "lamb organ soup" recommended by friend, pretty good broth & chewy noodle, but really missing out the organ part, only lamb meat & tripes, no liver, heart, kidney...etc. like I had in Beijing. Rougamo pork, cold jelly & sautéed intestine all gets thumbs up. After ordering, mostly self-serve like water & packing for to-go. Which is fine, considering how expensive server wages are today... & it's reflected on their modest pricing. I will be back.

Yelp
Noodle Palace serves a variety of Shanxi dishes such as hand pulled and knife cut noodles, sliced meat and vegetable appetizers, pancakes, and dumplings. I was here for the Youmian Kaolaolao, an item that is not on their menu, which they will make for you if you ask. The Youmian Kaolaolao arrives in a bamboo steamer basket. They are oat noodles that are rolled into short cylindrical tubes and arranged in a honeycomb configuration. You pull off one noodle at a time and dip them in a separate bowl of sauce. The noodles have an oatmeal aroma with a chewiness almost like a crepe pancake in texture. The hollow space catches the sauce, so don't overdo it on the dipping. Otherwise, it can get too salty. The sauce is a mixture of savory minced pork, pork belly tidbits, eggs, tomatoes, and garlic. They also brought out a complimentary dish of pickled cabbages. They are cold, crunchy, salty, and tangy, with Sichuan peppercorns. It's a nice palate cleanser. Dining Area: It's a cozy spot with plenty of tables. Parking: There is a large lot with easy to find spaces.

Yelp
A family-owned noodle and dumpling gem. The owners are friendly. Service is as expected for a Chinese restaurant, so don't come here expecting fantastic service and frequent check-ins to see how you are doing. Napkins, chopsticks and spoons are at each table - self-serve style. They have quite a variety of items for a noodle & dumpling place. Apparently, they have items that are not on the menu (ie. Kao lao lao), which I have not yet tried. It's supposed to be noodle made with oatmeal flour, so it's healthier, then steamed and served with a side of dipping sauce. I will definitely have to this next time. They have vegetarian appetizers (cucumber with hot sour sauce, dried bean curd, shredded potato, seaweed with spicy sauce in a self-serve bar area in the back). I typically love getting these vegetarian appetizers, but did not this time because I thought $8.50 for a small plate of appetizers was too much. Had I known it was a self-serve, all-you-can-eat salad bar, I would've ordered it. Will also try this next time. Price is also very reasonable. For all 6 items below, our total came out to be $74ish. 1. Special Thick Pancake (4/5) Very unique pancake that I have never seen anywhere else. The concept of it is similar to those well-known Chinese "Silver Thread Man tou/Steamed buns." However, the flavor is more similar to that of Fried Ramen Noodle snacks. Very unique and well-worth the try 2. Homemade Tofu (5/5) Each tofu slice was packed with savory sauce and some notes of subtle spice. Pairs well with rice. 3. Potato Shredded with Hot Pepper (5/5) They gave a generous portion of this. Very flavorful - vinegary with aromatic spices, but not spicy. The potato was fresh and had a good crunch to it 4. Cat ear noodle (Beef) (4.5/5) One of my favorite types of noodle dishes. Don't let the name fool you -- you are not actually eating a cat's ear. It's just noodle/dough made into the shape of a curled cat ear. The dough is chewy and when coated with sauce, it's addicting. The beef was super tender. 5. Pork Dill Dumpling (3.5/5) The dough of the dumpling was too thick in my opinion, but the filling inside was good. The pork was not stinky and the dill flavor was very strong. Paired with their home-made garlic-vinegar-soy sauce, it takes it up a notch. They do sell frozen dumplings that you can purchase to cook yourself at home. ($30 for a pack of 50 dumplings) - reasonably priced 6. Shan Xi Stir-Fried Pork (4/5) Cooked with woodear mushrooms and stir-fried with vinegar and soy sauce mix. I couldn't tell it was pork... thought it was chicken. Good on its own or with rice Will be back & highly recommend this place to others.

Yelp
This is definitly a new Restaraunt I'm adding to my rotation. Their noodle dishes are sooo good. Everything I ordered was a hit. The portions are soo big so I had food leftover that fed me for two days!

Yelp
Free plaza parking lot. Large round family tables with lazy Susan available. Communal self serve water on the side wall. Accepts credit cards. No alcohol license. Mandarin speaking. I am so thrilled to have discovered this place! The gentleman who greets you in the front is super friendly, he doesn't speak English but he's very helpful. Enriching I've tried so far has been delicious. It's carbs made in many ways. I highly recommend the cat ears, handmade and knife cut noodles, dumplings and special thick pancakes. Yum, drooling just thinking about them all. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of their menu!

Yelp
5/5 food experience. Everything was so authentic, homey, melty, and delicious. You can tell that every dish is made with intention and care. The family running this spot clearly has long-standing recipes that have been passed down the family line. Recipes that can now be relished by hungry folks like us. So make sure that you come hungry because there's so many amazing dishes to try at Noodle Palace! The service is swift and the prices are excellent. Our party of four left with full stomachs, and big smiles.

Yelp
This place was sooooo good. I originally was going to try another noodle place but they didn't have many options for my friend who doesn't eat pork or beef. Luckily we found this place. While ordering our server was very helpful and told me not to order an extra item as there would be enough food with the items we had ordered. I appreciated their input at the end of our meal as we did order more than enough food and had enough to take home. This place does not speak English but they do have an electronic translator that works really well. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
So happy I found a good northern Chinese place! The restaurant is small and located towards the end of a plaza. My lamb noodle soup was light and fragrant. I've had bad experiences from the past where the restaurant would use too much salt or msg to taste but not here at all. I left full and satisfied. The owner/host was friendly. One feedback I have is that it took a long time for the noodles to come out ~20mins. But they're each made to order so maybe I shouldn't be complaining. If you like lamb, check this place out.

Yelp
This place serves delicious handmade noodles from Shanxi that are really chewy and they give you a lot. You get six different side dishes only $8.5, which is a great deal. I recommend it to anyone who likes Chinese style noodle. The service is super friendly. I'll definitely be coming back here often.

Yelp
My absolute favorite thing here is the DIY appetizer bar for $8.50!! You just grab a plate and stack it as high as you want, with as many things from the veggie bar as you'd like, and take it back to your table. You can also do this to-go but dining in-person for this deal is a much better steal. Their seasoned wood ear mushrooms, seasoned seaweed, and cold cucumbers are my favorites. We've gotten the lamb noodle soup, the lamb rougamo, pork baby dill dumplings, pork leek dumplings, lamb dumplings, and stir fried intestine cat ear noodles. All were very homey and comforting, but would definitely recommend the rougamo as the pastry is very flaky and it's just super yummy! The pork baby dill dumplings are also probably our favorites so far.

Yelp
First ever comment in yelp. I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the service I received during my first time visit to this restaurant. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory due to several significant issues. Firstly, upon being seated, I was dismayed to find that there were no dining plates or bowls provided at the table. This oversight made it incredibly challenging to enjoy the meal properly and significantly detracted from the dining experience. Additionally, throughout the duration of my visit, there was a complete lack of water service. Not having access to water during a meal is not only inconvenient but also unacceptable from a hospitality standpoint. These deficiencies in service greatly impacted my overall impression of your restaurant and left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied. As a paying customer, I expect a certain standard of service, which unfortunately was not met during my visit.

Yelp
Tucked at the very end of a strip mall between 2 popular strip malls, this is the definition of a hidden gem. Our Mandarin was rusty, but thankfully my friend and I teamed up (she did most of the work) for our order. Here's what we got: - ROUGAMO BEEF: They asked if we were ok with pickled mustard veggies and a bit of spice inside -- both of which elevated and distinguished the taste from other beef/pork rougamo we've had elsewhere. The bun is not the same as special thick pancake, but rather thinner. - PORK & LEEK DUMPLING: Juicy, stuffed pork and fragrant leek wrapped in a slippery skin. This only gets better with their homemade dipping sauce with vinegar, garlic, soy sauce, sugar, scallions and of course some chili. The sauce was full of umami and makes me drool just thinking about it! - SPECIAL THICK PANCAKE: It is similar to the textured mantou bun that we had in our childhoods, and sometimes fried and dipped in condensed milk in HK places. I liked the crispy and soft noodle-like bits and paired it with the chili oil at our table. The sweet lady working there asked if we wanted soup to pair it with, which is what they usually do. - CAT EAR NOODLE W/ PIG INTESTINE: Again, drooling here. My friend and I love pig intestines and there was a sauteed dish, but we also loved noodles! The lady was able to custom order our dish and it was so well-worth it! The pig intestines were cooked perfectly with a little bit of funk and paired well with the very slippery and chewy cat ear noodles. The peppers on the plate weren't hot, but they had a bit of chili. The sauce has a savory soy taste, but relies on the garlic and wok heat to really make this special. Definitely give this place a try! There were many online/phone orders so you have no excuse!

Yelp
The food is real good here. If you want to order something not shown on the menu, you may ask the owner if they can offer you. Like changing different kind of noodles on your order.(白面换荞麦面)。The owner is so nice . Will come back again.

Yelp
A great place for north Chinese hand made noodles. Any foodies looking for a unique tantalizing their palate, should add this place as go to for hand crafted noodles. Their unique style includes dishes with such long noodles that a whole dish able to feed two is made from a single strand! I personally recommend, for a cold day, lamb soup with hand made "cat ear" noodles; it's al dente and plenty of lamb meat for you meat lovers. The service is great and attentive. Overall great place for noodle fans.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! Amazing! I was ecstatic when I finally found a place that served youmian kaolaolao. Youmian are a type of noodle made with a special variety of oat from Shanxi, which is so fun. As a dedicated noodle enthusiast, ever since finding out about this type of noodle I have been dying to try it. I couldn't find it on the menu but I just told the waitress I wanted kaolaolao and she said okay. I've never had it before so I can't say how well it stacks up against others, but I loved it. I finished the whole steamer by myself really quickly and the waitress came over and joked with me about how I'd eaten the whole thing alone. The lamb noodle soup with knife cut noodle was very good. The broth is not as thick as Shaanxi Garden's lamb noodle soup, which also I adore very much, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you like more delicate broth, you will love this one. The vegetable noodle soup with la mian was great. The la mian was actually better than the knife cut, which I don't say often because I prefer knife cut and don't really like la mian, but in this case it was the opposite, since the la mian was perfectly thick and bouncy. The broth was lovely. Very flavorful and a strong vegetable essence. The stir fried cabbage was a welcome surprise. I don't know why it was so good but it was!!! My family liked it a lot. The roujiamo was very spicy but well received. The waitresses kind of ignored us but that's expected of the really authentic Chinese restaurants, which this one was! When i went up to them for help they were really nice!

Yelp
Top 1 noodles palace in LA. Very traditional chinese knife-sliced noodles, you gonna find the best flavor in here. The service is great as a family and I give 5 stars for the service too. 最正宗的山西刀削面!!!

Yelp
Food is amazing. Just got back from China and couldn't tell the difference in taste between the motherland and Noodle Palace. The wok flavor in their stir fry is there, and the noodles are as authentic as it gets. Service is a bit lackluster since it's very mom and pop. But I am willing to come back for real Chinese food any day.

Very very traditional and well flavored ShanXi authentic noodles and foods. Highly recommend. If you want authentic ShanXi foods, this is the place to go in LA

Yelp
I was raised in Shanxi and grew up eating noodles. You can call me a noodles expert! So I'll say that Noodle Palace is the most authentic Shanxi restaurant in LA. You've got to try it if you love noodles. My go-to dishes would be: Shanxi Stir fry pork with xiao hua juan小花卷过油肉 Dalu Noodle打卤面 Helao noodle饸烙拌面 Stir-fried knife sliced noodle with pork or beef 牛或猪肉炒刀削 Youmian kao lao lao bu lan zi 不烂子 Pork feet (the best pork feet ever!!!) Someone said the waitress blamed them for ordering extra food but not finishing it. It seems to me that the waitress simply wanted people to stop wasting food. Her tone reminded me of my aunt or grandma. They had experienced food shortages for most of their youth. Eating some noodles with some homemade sauce was the happiest thing they could imagine. Getting extra food and not being able to finish it would be the last thing you want to do in front of my grandma hahaha. TBH, when we have a family dinner, I have been the most lovable kiddo in my grandma's eyes just because I was almost always able to clean every dish down to the very last morsel on the table as I am sure she would've wished.

Yelp
Love this place. Very authentic Shanxi noodles made by a local chef. They also have a secret menu with hotpot.

Xiaoxiao Y.

Yelp
Foods suck! Services worse ! It wasn't busy but took forever to get the foods ready ! Nono !

Yelp
Best spicy beef noodle soup. If you are feeling under the weather or just want to try this extraordinary, tasteful and best beef noodle soup in all Rosemead, CA for your hard earned money. Me and my wife eat here at least twice a month. Place is small and okay but noodle soup is great.

Yelp
New business ownership, rude. We came during their business hours. I knock on the door for a good five minutes while their stuff completely ignored us. I could clearly see they heard us but they didn't have the courtesy to come to the door to explain what is going on. Very rude.
google avatar

Kristie H.

Yelp
I used to love the previous restaurant that was here. Sad it's gone now, but I was open to trying Noodle Palace's take on Shanxi food. Ordered the liang pi, lamb cat ear soup, bread, as well as a mushroom dish to go. The best item of what I ordered was the lamb cat ear soup. Nothing was super flavorful. The bread and the liang pi were bland and the dish I ordered to go was way too salty. Service was great though. Unfortunately, food didn't match. Hope they get better.

Yelp
Favorite noodle places in la. Love the how chewy the hand made noodles are. Also very delicious side dishes!

Yelp
One must-try restaurant representing the highest quality of noodles from Shanxi, China, the home of Chinese noodles. The owner even ship all the flour and stuff from China. The owner is friendly in a traditional Chinese way that may be perceived as rude (as I saw in some comments). As an international student, the owner makes me feel like home. She is like an elderly member in a family. She would blame you for ordering too much and wasting the food. The chef, too, is warm in a way that might be perceived as rude for customers who don't grow up in the culture. He once walked out to our table bluntly b/c we ordered something from the secret menu. He's surprised that we knew the cuisine. I'm truly grateful for being able to taste home flavor like this in LA. 超级好吃,手工面条,黄米都是从山西运过来的。有隐藏菜单,比如焖面、打卤面,需要提前预定。

Yelp
This restaurant is vegetarian friendly and have a lot of options. They have secret menu as well. I always let them decide for me when I don't know what to eat lol. Owner and cook they are super nice like families.

Yelp
Great noodle place. Still open during Covid. Came here for a To Go order. We got a bunch of the chinese side dishes and then a cat ear fried noodles dish with pork. It was absolutely outstanding. The price / quality / quantity combination is hard to beat. I'll absolutely be back!

Yelp
Noodle Palace took over Noodle Boy's space. One plus is that it's not cash only, provided your transaction is over $20. I came with four co-workers for a Thursday lunch. We ordered a spread of made to order items: fried onion pancake, special thick pancake, jelly pork skin, cold noodles with sesame sauce, shear cut fried noodles, eggplant, and pork and leek dumplings. They have a self-serve station for water. When we came in, the lady who took our order didn't speak English, only Mandarin. My co-worker and I were able to order in Mandarin, but you can't, don't fret as the menu is in Chinese and English and the wall has visuals of popular dishes with English descriptions. The jelly pork skin is something I've had before and I can't seem to tell if it's vegetarian or not. Name implies it is, but my parents who tried the leftovers I took home say it's not. It's a cold dish served in garlic sesame sauce. The presentation of the eggplant was one I've never seen before. The eggplant is cut in a square shape rather than the usual rectangular shape. The eggplant was accompanied with tomato, which was a first for me. No other filler so that was pretty awesome! The dumplings come with 12 pieces. They are steamed and taste homemade. Yes, none of that store bought stuff. Woo hoo! Easily one of my favorites to re-order. The cold noodles are perfect on a hot day. It comes tossed with sliced cucumbers in a sesame sauce. The thin, long noodles are also made in house. The shear cut noodles remind me of udon and since we ordered it fried, it reminded me even more so. Both pancakes come piping hot, so give it a little time to cool down. Both are not salty at all, so if you want more flavor, order the noodles or jelly pork skin and dip the pancake in the sauce. You can also mix vinegar and chili from the table condiments for some more flavor too. Portions are generous and we were easily full from our seven dishes and had a good amount to take home. While I'm sad to no longer have Noodle Boy, I can see Noodle Palace as a place to come for cold days and those hot summer days too. If you have a chance, look for the noodle cutting machine through the kitchen window. Pretty cool to see the noodles being shear cut for cooking!

Yelp
Wife noodle- you can add your choices of toppings (braised thinly sliced pork belly, stewed soy sauce ground pork, and stir fried tomatoes with eggs) from the bar. Cold jelly noodle- mung bean noodles with spices and red chili oil topped with cucumber, white sesame, and roasted peanuts. It's flavorful and not overly spicy. Knife cut noodles with pork - the noodles are hand made and well cooked. All dishes are perfectly seasoned. The portions are really generous. The prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly. Credit cards are accepted. We sure will return!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place and was pleasantly surprised -- I was reading the restaurant name outside when the owners heartily welcomed my family and I inside. The service was super friendly and warm as they gathered together to offer suggestions. We're huge fans of hand pulled and cut noodles so we ordered both the wife noodles and shear cut noodles (both of which are fresh made). The flavor of both dishes were very savory and hearty, while the noodles were perfectly chewy! My favorite is the wife noodles as we were able to customize and add whatever toppings we liked at the self-serve bar. We added tomato egg, ground pork and mushrooms, and cucumbers :) Lastly, we ordered a plate of pork and napa dumplings, which are normally just boiled but they were able to pan fry it for us upon request. I'll definitely be craving the hot and fresh noodles again and again!

Yelp
This restaurant opened recently, owner is super nice and inside is very clean and organized. They have all the traditional Shan Xi food here, and all noodles are handmade, taste just like hometown!! Highly recommended cold dishes, wife's noodle, cold jelly noodle with wasabi ;) So gooooood!!! Will come back for sure

Yelp
Enjoyed the food here, but think I ordered wrong. We really liked the pancakes. The waitress recommended a lamb soup to go with them, but that was our least interesting dish. It was a little gamey and way too much food based on what else we ordered. We had a nice veggie cabbage dish that came with a pleasant sauce. Also had the basic noodle and veggie dish, which was nice. Thick noodles. Fun to see the chef from the seat.

Yelp
The worst restaurant. The worst attitude and service. Dont go this restaurant. One cat ear noodle is 11, extra noodle for it adding7.5? ridiculous? absurd? There is no more noodles than regular one. The waitress even blamed me for not finishing the noodles and asked me why I ordered extra noodles???

Donnie D.

Yelp
Was craving fried noodles and came here on a lark. Amazing flavors and big portions! Can't recommend enough!

Yelp
Wow, very impressed by this place. I was in the area and found this spot on yelp because I eat when I'm bored, it looked pretty new & the reviews were enticing so I decided to come support them. Let me tell you, I am very happy that I did. First, the food. Everything looks delicious, fresh, & fairly priced. But what impressed me most was how light everything was. Most restaurants, especially dishes like scallion pancake & the cold marinated veggies, will usually leave a pool of oil on the plate. Not so here! In fact I almost wish the scallion pancake was fried crispier - but it was still great as it was, and I would much rather have it softer & lighter than too oily & crispy with absolutely no chew, which is what I get half the time at other places. In fact this is probably the closest to how my childhood friends grandma (RIP) in woodside, queens NY used to make when I slept over & smashed with him all night (or played California speed for n64). And I would always wolf down at least 8 within 10 minutes. Even the soup had a very reasonable amount of oil at the top, not a whole layer covering the entire surface but many smaller, well dispersed dots. The noodles are also handmade in house with more unique specialty styles - knife cut noodles which are always delicious & the cat ear noodles I tried, which were cool because bite size no dripping mess! As for the sides they are also delicious & light. Din tai fung cucumber salad is still my benchmark but come on, that's a completely different class than this place. The one here is solid & a lot cheaper. The potato threads were the least oily I've ever had at a restaurant - their food is seriously lighter than how I usually cook at home, but somehow still perfectly seasoned, with no dead spots. Also, if you have an issue with it every table is provided house made red chili oil, soy sauce & black vinegar, white pepper, sriracha, & salt. For me, all I needed was white pepper - the rest of the flavors are pretty on point. Next is the service - I was the first customer of the day so they weren't busy, but the owner was extremely hospitable & welcoming. He actually gave me the sides for free just because I asked about them, and even made me a noodle bun thing (see pic) that he brought to me halfway through my soup. It was delicious btw... kinda a more doughy version of the ramen bun. Of course I wouldn't expect the same treatment next time, especially if it's busier, but it was a great way to build rapport with me for not much cost; leave a lasting impression, and furthermore show that the owner really takes pride in his business & products. If I had one suggestion it is for the ambiance, the TV on or at least some music & maybe a few more decorations would be nice, but they have only been open for 2 months and, as I said, I was the only customer at the time. It is clean & comfortable, just wish it was a little more aesthetic somehow.

Yelp
I've been on a dry noodle kick lately, after eating one too many overcooked, soggy soup noodles. I was happy to find a nice, saucy noodle at this Shanxi noodle shop that opened this year. I came specifically for the hé le miàn (饸饹面). It's listed as "wife's special noodles" in English, but from what I can tell, that's not a standard name, it's just lifted from the same dish at Laoxi Noodle House in Arcadia. The noodles are a Shanxi staple where the dough is extruded from a noodle press directly into a boiling pot. It has a pasta-like bite to it, making it a good choice to be served dry/saucy. The gimmick here is the heated bar. You're given a bowl of plain noodles and sliced cucumber, and you head to the bar to load up on the rest of the toppings yourself: ground meat, braised pork slices, and a tomato/egg mixture. Mix it well, and you have a nice, satisfyingly saucy bowl of noodles. I can't say they're better than the ones I had at Laoxi Noodle House, but it's nice to avoid the drive up to Arcadia, and since the toppings are self-serve, maybe I need to work on my own topping skills. Practically no English is spoken by the mom-n-pop staff, but they were friendly. The space is huge for a noodle joint, and you notice that they've already lowered the prices of dishes by a dollar or more. Add to it how generous they are offering a self-serve toppings bar, and you're left worrying about the long-term prospects of this shop. I do hope they succeed.

Yelp
My husband, who's from Shanxi Province, highly praised food here for its generous portions and authenticity. Employees are very friendly. Definitely worth a try!

Yelp
I should preface this by saying that I don't eat meat and have only ever eaten one dish many times over so my review may not appeal to everyone though it should. That out of the way, LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE. A hole in the wall place in the back of a strip mall (I guess would be the term). The noodles are made to order per dish and are nice and chewy. There's several options for types of noodles but I'm all about the hand pulled long noodle. My go to dish is the house special vegetarian fried noodle. It's so damn good. There's so much flavor in there. Visually you can see all the ingredients. Fresh noodles, onions, cabbage, eggs, and some chili's. Doesn't look like a stunning dish but tastes like a stunning dish. A problem that I have with many Chinese places are that yes they can make a dish vegetarian by removing the meat but it starts as a meat dish with an adjustment. This noodle dish is a meatless from the start and it's amazing. You also get a huge portion which is plenty for two people. The owner takes orders, checks, and heads to the back to cook as well so she's doing it all. There is a language barrier there as she doesn't speak English but I've gotten by fine with just pointing. Try the place out and start by getting my favorite dish. As of my review there is dine in as an option but I always take it togo.

Yelp
The special thick pancake- the taste is perfect but the texture is really what makes it. I can't describe it. And the shear cut noodle... Also the texture (chewy) and tasty. I was very surprised. This might be my new favorite for awhile. Also, the lady is really nice. I think she only speaks Mandarin though, so I usually point at the pictures.

Yelp
This has to be one of my favorite shanxi noodle restaurants based upon the dishes I've ordered and relaxed vibe of the place. I come here every week and each time, the owner will bring out new dishes for me to try that's not on the menu from her hometown. I think if you make a request, they can definitely make it for you. So far, I've tried all of the noodle dishes and they were great with large portions. More recently, I got to try fried sweet potato with sugar on it. I highly recommend it! I've also gotten their lamb buns and sandwich, which I also like/recommend. I've met some other regular customers while dining here and they say it's authentic. Overall, I suggest trying this place for some home cooked meals and great service.

Yelp
Long overdue review. Been coming here on and off for over year. The owner is genuine and warm. She makes all of noodle and dumpling by hand and takes pride in her work. The food is simple hearty and good. The noodle has the perfect texture and served al dente. I've had the knife cut , scissor cut, cold, mixed and stir fried and all were good. My favorite is still the simple tomato egg over the scissor cut. There are also a lot of vegetarian choices so those who don't eat meat can rejoice.

Yelp
Another fantastic meal at this hidden gem! The noodles are soooo freaking good. I can't believe it's not more crowded on a Sunday afternoon...

Yelp
I thought this place was pretty good. All of their noodles are hand made and made well. I thought the cold jelly noodle was excellent; very different from what I've eaten before. Nothing my family and I ordered was bland and all the dishes wasn't soaked in oil which was a plus. The beef noodle was the most oily item but it's still mild compared to other noodle houses. Would def come back.

Yelp
This is where Noodle Boy used to be, it's now Noodle Palace! New owners, new menus, same look. Walked in expecting Noodle Boy, when I realized it wasn't I stayed anyway. The portions here are huge. Family style for almost everything. A bowl of soup noodles are bigger than your head. A plate of their stir fry may be bigger than your stomach. The owner was super nice and despite the language barrier, him and his staff tried their best to accommodate us! Their lamb is amazing, cooked perfectly. The noodles are thick and the soup is flavorful. I came here wanting Noodle Boy but I got so much more. Plenty of parking since it's sort of in the back of a plaza. Either way, I'll be back!

Yelp
Noodles are QQ. Scissor cut noodles stir fry was good; came with chicken in it. Jelly pork skin was lacking the pork skin which was a bit sad. I tasted and saw more jelly. Spicy beef noodle soup was ok, I would skip this. Beef was tender and flavorful but not the soup. They take credit cards.

Yelp
Writing this because I want this place to survive ! (They've got some great key dishes but are a little disorganized as a business.) *The House Special Fried Noodles with vegetables has an amazing wok flavor and the hand cut noodles have a good bite/chew to them. I've had the meat versions of this dish but prefer the vegetable version because they slice up the meat in odd big chunks. *The Beef Noodle Soup: the meat is so fragrant and just melts in your mouth. I haven't had such amazingly cooked beef noodle soup in a while. Just the right amount of heat. The folks working there are kind, if not a bit disorganized (the first time I went they kept giving our dishes to another table). I really believe in this place, despite the slight disarray and some needed updates to their dishes (like the large cuts of meat in their fried noodles, shouldn't those be more slices). The folks aren't great at running a restaurant per se, but they know food and are worth a shot for sure !!

Yelp
Ordered with one of the apps for pick up at 5:48. Never received a confirmation or notification to pick up, so called around 6 and the lady on the phone said they didn't receive a "phone call from the App" confirming the order and told to wait another 25 minutes. Not reliable and definitely not a merchant you can trust.

Yelp
Great place, no chicken today, but extra good and tasty. Language is a bit of an issue. But for 6 adults $72.75. Cant beat it, fresh made just for you!]
