Noodle Shop Rennosuke (麺屋 練之助) is an absolute standout in Kyoto. The aesthetic alone is worth the visit—minimal, intentional, and beautifully designed, with every detail feeling thoughtful, right down to the dishware.
The food was exceptional. We ordered both the pork ramen and the duck ramen, and each was outstanding—deeply comforting and perfect for a cold December day. The duck ramen broth initially had a slightly gelatinous texture, but as we worked through the noodles it thinned out into a beautifully balanced, rich broth that was incredibly satisfying.
We also ordered the grilled pork and egg on rice, which may have been the highlight of the meal. The pork was hands-down the best grilled pork I’ve had—perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and paired with a sauce that was absolutely spot on. The omelette was another surprise; it’s remarkable how such a simple dish could taste so refined and delicious.
The staff were friendly, attentive, and clearly take pride in what they do, which elevated the experience even further. From the atmosphere to the food to the service, everything felt carefully considered. I would wholeheartedly recommend Rennosuke to anyone visiting Kyoto.
