The 21 Best Late-Night Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"At Noodle & Beer Chinatown, phones flash as braised beef ribs are expertly snipped off the Flintstone-like bone and walk-ins hunker down over Sichuan dishes at the counter. London’s New Restaurant Openings

"More reliable than our emergency contact, and probably just as comforting, Noodle & Beer is opening a second restaurant. We rated the original Spitalfields location an 8.2. We have high hopes for this two-floor Chinatown follow-up. It’s open until 3:30am on weekends, has Kirin Ichiban on draft, and an extensive Sichuan menu. We checked out Noodle & Beer and added it to the Hit List." - team infatuation

A sexy night out and great Sichuan food awaits at Noodle & Beer - Review - London - The Infatuation

"Noodle & Beer Chinatown is the jazz hands, 2.0 version of the original in Spitalfields. The Sichuan dishes are still great, but here they’ve dialled up the fun and added a sexy little basement—a red room with enough velvet, mirrors, and curtains to kick your night into high gear (if you aren’t already a few Kirin Ichibans deep). This louche lounge is where you’ll want to be at 1am, feeling hot as you soak up any regrets from the night with comforting, chilli oil-coated blanket noodles, or having cocktails with a date that’s graduated from dinner to sparkling sake Negronis and foot touching. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute But even on the ground-floor level—where phones flash as braised beef ribs are expertly snipped off the Flintstone-like bone by servers, and walk-ins hunker down at the counter over bowls of buttery miso noodles—you get an instant adrenaline hit. Solo diners squeeze onto tiny tables and make friends, chilli sweats kick in, emergency glasses of water are hailed, and food hits tables at a frenetic pace, which suits the always-on atmosphere. Expect to catch your breath only as you leave. Food Rundown Super King Braised Beef Short Ribs With Blanket Noodles In the hierarchy of ‘Comforting Super King Things’, this hulking slow-cooked short rib beats a super king bed. The meat is snipped off the bone by your server—which makes for a nice bit of drama at the table—and falls apart with the gentlest of chopstick nudges. The noodles are stretchy and silky too. Google
This was my fourth time here and tbh the service has never been spectacular but today was completely disrespectful. The last time I was here before now was last week and I brought my colleague to try it because I always enjoyed the noodles. Our bill was around £47 but I paid a total of £54 including the optional service charge. Today, I decided not to pay because the service from the time I got a seat was not great. We wanted a table for 3 but unfortunately, due to the size of the restaurant, the only options we had was to either sit by the bar or take a table with an edged seating which was quite uncomfortable. I politely asked if it was possible be reseated on a better table but the response (tone) I got was quite disrespectful; tbh I understand why it was not possible to reseated but a little politeness in tone would have made a difference. We ordered 3 meals and all through the time, from when our order was taken to when our meals were served, there was this sense of rudeness from the staff; I understand restaurants can get busy and all, but that’s not an excuse to serve in a rude manner. One of the waitresses literally swung her head away when my friend politely asked if we could get chili oil. When it was time to settle the bill, I didn’t see the need to pay the optional service charge because I was not pleased with the overall service. Mind you, I have always paid the charge (my last three visits); the waitress who took the bills charged at me and said commandingly “the last time you were here you didn’t pay the charge, today again, why!!!?”; I felt so disrespected but I held my cool. I told her my charge the last time was £54 and I paid in full and I proceeded to bring my phone to show her. Why would you charge at me if I decide not pay the service charge??? Mind you I always PAY!

Really enjoyed my visit here. I had the beef noodles and they were excellent. The broth was rich and full of flavor, and the beef was incredibly tender. I was also impressed by the beer selection. There is a solid range of East Asian beers that felt thoughtful rather than gimmicky. I sat downstairs in the red room, which had a great vibe and made the space feel a bit more intimate. The hostess and bartender were warm and welcoming, which always makes a difference. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Google
A fantastic spot in Chinatown for bold flavours and a relaxed, lively vibe. The noodles are excellent, fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of depth, and everything feels thoughtfully made rather than rushed. Portions are generous without being heavy, and the balance of spice and seasoning is spot on. The beer selection pairs really well with the food, making it a great place to unwind with friends or enjoy a casual but high quality meal. Service is friendly and efficient, even when it’s busy, and the atmosphere is buzzing without being overwhelming. Definitely one of those places you end up wanting to come back to, simple, fun, and consistently good.

Google
Really enjoyed our meal here! The Century Egg with Green Chili was a standout – the chilies had an amazing crunchy texture, which was unique. We also ordered the Rendang Curry Coconut Beef and the Rib Noodles. Both were delicious, and the rib portion was huge and very satisfying. Highly recommend!

Google
Noodles & Beer in Soho absolutely deserves 5 stars. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and made the whole experience feel smooth from start to finish. The food was incredible—especially the flat noodles with braised beef, which were unbelievably soft, tender, and packed with flavour. Truly one of the standout dishes I’ve had in Soho. The dumplings were alright, not the highlight of the meal, but everything else more than made up for it. Overall, the quality, service, and atmosphere were spot on. It’s great that there are halal options and it’s open till late! I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Small resturant that gets quite very busy. My first time at this restaurant and the food was lovely .I ordered the beef rib noodles, beef redant and spring roll which l found quiet expensive for just one spring toll. The spring roll was average, beef redang also ok but the noodles was the best. Service was friendly and fast.

My boyfriend took me here for something to eat for my birthday before heading to the lyceum theatre and the food was absolutely delicious. (I went with the super king braised beef ribs with blanket noodles and their homemade lemon tea!) The staff were very friendly! The style of the underground area was beautiful with the velvet and deep reds! The atmosphere was very cosy and warm. I loved it!

Google
Absolutely loved this place! I had the beef ribs noodles – the staff even sprinkled gold dust on top, which felt so ceremonial and memorable. The beef was slow-cooked, super tender and full of flavour. For anyone who loves spice, this is honestly heaven. We also tried the Lang-ya potatoes – crispy on the outside, soft inside, and the portion was huge, perfect for sharing between three of us. The atmosphere is really relaxed, and it’s pet-friendly too – my little dog was so happy in the restaurant. Such a great spot for good food and a fun experience!

Yelp
Just random pick here after seeing this restaurant on London Chinatown on YouTube. Sent up to 2nd floor for lunch. Notice quite a few locals with some tourists sprinkle through out the restaurant. Ordered 3 dishes: 3 kinds of meat, dry chow fun and Singaporean noodles. Quite large portions and flavorful, enough leftover to take back for late night snack. Recommend for good value for cheap eats.

Yelp
Nope, Nope and Nope again. I came here because there were no other restaurants u Open late and they close at 3 or 4am. Upon arrival I walked in and the staff looked at you like you were unwanted. Needless to say it was obvious. We had to asked if they wrre open the said "yes on the 3rd or 2nd floor. When I got up there no one seemed to attended customer needs. Finally someone came over and when we ordered he didnt seem to be familiar with the items so he could answer questions about the menu items chosen. I ordered the Chilli Sauce Chicken. It was not good. The fried combination rice was bland with no flavor. Over all I would not be back.

Yelp
After a local walking tour nearby, I needed some food. I thought of wonton noodle soup...and here they are, they had it. I was expecting the size that you see in Hong Kong, but the actual bowl I was served was much bigger. The broth was nothing special, but enjoyed the thin noodles. I wish they had those red vinegar to enhance the flavor - the ones you see in noodle places in HK...

Yelp
The moment you walk into Hung's, you will be greeted by servers that don't want to be there. They said to everyone "go ups stairs for more seats". We saw 2 other walk ins (the diners are 2 solo diners) the servers insisted to sit them together in one small table finally the second diner refused and left. Service is just rude rude rude there. Food wise, the hot and sour soup is a thick paste. The duck is edible but instead of the little Peking Duck bao, they probably ran out of the bao and they gave us some shrimp chips they were soggy. It was one of those late nights that nothing else is open, but still, I might rather just not eat. If you like rude service and mediocre food come to hung's.

Yelp
For a place that calls itself the duck specialist, this place thoroughly disappointed my tastebuds. I should've checked the reviews from fellow Yelpers before eating here!! On our last night in London, my sister and I chose this place to eat our dinner because those roast ducks be looking good. When we entered the tiny restaurant, we were immediately directed to Floor 2 to be seated. The server spoke Mandarin and English, and explained briefly the differences between the Crispy Duck, Peking Duck, and the Cantonese-style roast duck. I won't bother with the explanation because food was so... bleh. The only thing that was good was that the food came out really quick. The duck was not fatty, but the meat was a bit tougher than what I'm used to eating in SF Bay Area. The choy sum was soft, but my sister could tell that the garlic used was from a can and not freshly minced. Tea was piping hot! We tried to ask for more tea but the server never refilled our pot. The menu stated a 10% service fee was added to the bill. It showed up as a surcharge, so i don't know if it was supposed to the a tax or service fee. No tip was left for them because the service was lacking and food was mediocre. Take your business elsewhere because this place WILL disappoint you.

Yelp
Honestly, I'd been staying in Oxford so long for uni that I was really craving Chinese food--good Chinese food. When I went to London, I walked into Hung's and everyone spoke Cantonese which felt really great and authentic. The food was good, but my only qualm was that a lot of it was cold (the roast pork and the vegetables), as if it had been sitting out for a while. I really enjoyed the hot and sour soup though! I think I can say it's the best hot and sour soup I've ever had in my life--most places tend to make a soup that is neither hot nor sour, but Hung's did both! I think I'd go back, but hopefully next time I do, my food will be hot!

Yelp
This wasn't our first choice for peking duck, but considering it was 1:30am and they were the only place open, we settled. It was our first night staying in Chinatown so we didn't have a good idea of how much peking duck costs in the area. We ordered half a peking duck for £21/$28 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Flavor, texture, MOISTURE, everything was just right. Except it definitely wasn't half the duck. The dish came with thin pancakes, cucumbers, green onions and brown sauce. The duck came in a rectanglular tupperware that could fit approximately 5 decks of cards. But the bottom was layered with crispy rice crackers to elevate the duck so it appeaed to be more than there actually is. The amount of duck we got was definitely not worth £21 and we felt ripped off.

Yelp
It was close to dinner time when we were in Chinatown, so we figured we'd find a place to eat around here. We didn't want a crazy wait nor expensive hipster/fusion food, so we found Hung's. We went up 2 flights of stairs to the 3rd floor for seating. We ordered the duck noodle soup, house special fried rice, and vegetable and tofu stone pot. Food looked and tasted greasier than we'd like. Not worth it (though not much choice if you didn't want to wait during rush time!).

Yelp
The restaurant is located in the heart of Chinatown in downtown London. I went into this establishment since they had an advertisement about their specialty being CRISPY roast duck. so we stopped in, hoping to see what all the fuss is about given they seemed to be full of Chinese mainlanders. Upon entering the place, we actually got seated quickly by going to the 2nd floor, it's definitely odd and cramp, so get ready to sacrifice some personal space. The restaurant has 3 floors and narrow hallways and fairly steep stairs, so if you are expecting elevators or ADA ramps you can forget that. Now onto food and service. We had to waive down someone for menus, minus one star. And then again wave down someone to get tea, water and they didn't refill, minus another star. We should have left and went to Wong Kei nearby. But since we were here, we'd give it a try. we ordered 3 meat bbq plate (duck, pork belly, and soy sauce chicken). duck was not CRISPY but SOGGY, pork belly was too salty, and chicken was good. added some choi sum in garlic which was good. and also wonton soup, which was ok but a little bland. overall minus another star for food quality. I would recommend going somewhere else if you can.

Yelp
Still in shock to hear you all are closing. Thank you for the memories and the best Peking Duck in the world!!My favorite time to eat it was at 4am after having danced the night away. :) I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Yelp
Hung's has been quite a long running Chinese restaurant in Chinatown compared to it's competitors yet it is the first time I'm venturing in to try their take on the Cantonese classics. I associate their restaurant more like a canteen, selling mainly one plate dishes from lunch to evening unlike some places that only sells one plate rice dishes at lunch. Their decor could do with a refurbish but the run down look gives it a bit of character and reminiscent of a lot of the places I dined in Hong Kong, From the front the restaurant looks quite small but it actually consists of three floors. Service was very friendly when we were there even after we witness a rude obnoxious table be rude to the staff members. A sad moment in my life. Stir fried spinach with garlic A fantastic executed dish, stir fried to release the fragrance of the garlic into the lovely young leafy spinach. The corn slurry helped thicken the sauce nicely so the spinach remained moist at all times. All perfectly seasoned so it can be eaten without rice. Wonton (pork & prawn) and roast duck egg noodle soup I really don't see the hype in this dish. The broth was so watery and bland I could not taste anything other than the juices of the wonton and duck that may have leaked into it. The noodles were fine but quite broken. Duck was quite tasteless but I appreciated how lean and meaty it was. Best part was the wonton itself, plump and filled generously with prawn giving that lovely sweetness to the dish. I suppose at £6 it wasn't all that unreasonable. Beef Brisket Ho Fun soup Once again the bland soup itself took all the joy away from the dish. The beef brisker varied from being dense and dry to some nice and succulent pieces where there was a large chunk of fat present. Quite generous in meat though. However with such a weak soup it didn't do much justice to the lovely fresh ho fun, which obviously gave off minimal flavour on it's own. Had to pour in a couple of soy sauce and chili oil to add some flavour and complexity to the dish. Such a shame. Mixed three kinds of barbecue with steamed rice Probably the most satisfying main dish out of the three ordered. The roast pork belly was my favourite, nice fresh crispy skin with a good layer of fat before reaching the lovely tender leaner meat. Char siu wasn't bad but could have been marinated and roasted longer to give it a richer sweeter and savoury flavour and roasted flavour. Duck like mentioned before was lean and meaty but also wasn't roasted long enough to soak up the sweet soy marinate. Luckily what made this superior to the rest was that it had helped from the remaining marinade sauce drizzled over to give it more flavour, especially when eaten with the rice. Hung was quite disappointing but I couldn't help but think I might have ordered their weaker dishes and should have stuck with their rice dishes or main dishes to share with rice. Still it's not an excuse. Might consider giving it another go seeing their other reasonable one plate rice dishes costing around £6.20 to £9.50 seeing how good their wok skills were with their greens. Still I say to avoid their noodle soup dishes unless you've had better and can tell me it was an off day because you've had better.

Yelp
I come here for either lunch or dinner sometimes and I think their food is good. Wouldn't say the best compare to some other Chinese restaurants I've been in china town but a few of their staffs are quiet friendly so I tend to go back and have a chat with them. I do prefer sitting downstairs than upstairs as its a bit stuffy upstairs. I would recommend this place if you just want a quick casual meal before heading out partying or even to a show.
google avatar

Yelp
Worst service ever. Avoid at all cost. While we were still eating, a waiter came over and warned us that he would charge us £1 for each glass of tap water if we were not able to finish drinking them. Nowhere on the menu nor elsewhere ever indicated such policy. Also, we did intend to drink the water. We were super confused and then he said we should drink them all and there is a toilet on the first floor if we drink too much and need to pee. HOW RUDE. Period. This is the most ridiculous and unpleasant experience I have ever had. It's hard for me to imagine how a service stuff like him could still get a job in hospitality.
google avatar

Iris H.

Yelp
This is not great Chinese food. We ordered porridge, which was very much like rice mixed with water. Great authentic porridge should have a smooth consistency. We also ordered half a roast duck. The texture of the meat seems like it was double cooked (roasted and reheated as it was very leathery). The beef noodle soup was okay...

Vivian T.

Yelp
Food was okay. The hot and sour soup was below average. Service not so good - our waitress was rude. We found a roach crawling on the wall and notified the waitress only to have her not care and let the roach keep crawling around. My group and I are Americans and in certain cities in the States there are grading systems that rate the hygiene of the restaurant. Here it would be a C or below. Feel free to eat here if you like eating subpar food and dining with live insects. Update: I have food poisoning now. Eat here at your own risk.

Yelp
I love to eat Chinese food and have learned that the test of any good ethnic food is who's eating in the restaurant. I almost hesitate to write about Hung's because once I put this information out into the ethos, there is no telling what will happen! Hung's is my favourite Chinese restaurant and if you go there it won't take long for you to figure out why. I will readily admit that most of the time I order the same few dishes, why mess with perfection and nothing I've eaten has disappointed me. On cold afternoon or evenings I enjoy duck noodle soup with tea (a staggering £5). The soup has a rich broth with green onions, noodles and large slices of duck. With the duck, be warned, some of the pieces have bones in them, so you have to chew around the bone. I will readily admit, not the most lady like of endeavors but the food is so delicious that one soon gets over it. The other dishes I like are a portion of duck (don't get a half it's really a big serving), crispy belly pork, and fried rice. Hung's has the best fried rice I've ever eaten, that with the duck (don't forget to watch the bones) and pork, perfect! The mixture of the pork and duck are an excellent combination and tossing in a bit of broccoli with ginger, the meal is complete. Hung's is the best Chinese restaurant in Chinatown and I hope that by sharing this little nugget that it doesn't end up being the most crowded!
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
Decidedly average chinese food. I really don't get the rave reviewed for Hung's. It's decent enough Chinese, but there are much better spots (any of the Legend restaurants for instance) in the immediate vicinity. The dough on my dumplings wasn't fully cooked, and my stir fry sticken dish (ginger with spring onion), had fatty chicken with some bones and skin not properly removed. I'm giving it 3 stars though, as the prices are good (its quite affordable), it's open ridiculously late, and the service was quick. However, if it's before 1am and you are sober...you can do much better.
google avatar

Jerry A.

Yelp
Look it's pretty much your typical central London Chinese eatery. Standard. However, I feel I must give Hung's 5 full stars for several reasons. Whenever I have been in food has always tasted great! This is our go to place when I've had a night out on the town and need some food to soak up my weight in booze that I have just consumed. So a huge plus is they are open until the wee hours of the morning. And they have to get props for dealing with all those drunk parties that walk in and cause a ruckus!
google avatar

Juichia C.

Yelp
I came here at 3am and I wasn't in the most coherent state, so you can take my review as you see fit, haha. I don't see what's to hate about it really. I'd come here over and over again at 3am in a non-coherent state. The bbq combo over rice was great. The bbq pork was especially stellar, very soft and great flavor. The sauce over the rice was delicious and just sweet enough. The crispy duck was crap though. Don't order it.
google avatar

Daron D.

Yelp
There is a section of Leischester square, which seems to be straight up China town. Although most of the Chinese restaurants (including this one) have the roasted pig and duck in the viewing window roasting, this one stuck out, especially also being that the place didn't close until 4 am. So for food here, me and my wife shared some Kung pao chicken (a big portion and probably the best Kung pao chicken I have ever had) and some chicken fried rice (pretty good). The only negative thing I can say is that the soy sauce here is extremely salty. However, that is not enough to sway me from 5 stars.
google avatar

Paige C.

Yelp
The soup here is very good but on the small side. The price of the soup is pricey. My noodles with shredded chicken were really good except that I wish that it wasn't so dry.
google avatar

Tom Y.

Yelp
I give them props for staying open late, they know how to make a living doing it, they got security at the door to keep the really drunk out, while letting the drunk enough in. What do you want at 3am-ish, after you gone to 5 bars? I want beef chow fun, and since it was Chinese or another kebab, Chinese it is. The security guard gave us the look, and asked us how many, luckily there was a table for the 6 of us available, and we were really drunk. My ABC buddy and I had the beef chow fun, and others ordered various noodles and fried rice dish, and everyone enjoyed it. It wasn't super nice, but given this is 3am, and I ate beef chow fun in a restaurant, 4 stars it is.
google avatar

Phoebe L.

Yelp
It's ok. A little on the greasy side and quite expensive in comparison to other places in the area (and especially compared to places just a little further out of the city centre). Their specialty is their meat dishes but they are a little on the light side when it comes to meat. The greens were super generous and garlic-y. We used the excess garlic on our rice that the meat came with, as meat/rice/sauce ratio was very plain rice heavy. 1:7:1. A little dirty and toilets not flash. Lots of discarded plates with chewed bones lying around with a couple of insect fans. They also set our table with forks. Service was pretty slow. Won't go back.

Yelp
So this is one of the better Chinese places around. It's also open very late. My friends have been here two nights already and they have become infamously a sensation with managment. I mean one gal somehow snaps the thick chopstick in three with the middle landing in a dish a few feet away. Then not long after another friend stumbles down the steps with a deadstop using his head and wall. Yes there mistakes and both were very apologetic. So Saturday night we were greated by the owner. He is a very patient man. He recounte a story or two. The food was just delicious. We just ordered for the table, duck, stomach, fried wontons, spicey noodles and another noodle dish. The food came out quick. I was impressed as this place is three stories. We were on the top level. Their was a good line waiting to get seated when we left.
google avatar

Paige C.

Yelp
The soup was super good but on the small size and the price is pretty high for the amount you get. My noodles with shredded chicken was pretty good but a bit on the dry side.

Asger R.

Yelp
Very authentic Chinese! The waiters spoke about 3 words of english (combined). And I was the only non-asian person of the floor, and at one point there was a very loud argument between one of the customers and a waiter (of course in chinese). But food was amazing, I got the peking duck pancakes, and holy shit, it was amazing! The duck meat was very tasty and the duck skin was extremely crispy. If you want a fine dining experience with waiters that you can communicate with (unless you're good at chinese) then go somewhere else. If you want to go to China but can't afford the plane tickets, go to Hung's.

Yelp
Really quick food and service. We had to go up two flights of narrow stairs to the floor where we were instructed to go, We thought it was the first floor but after opening the door i think it led to the bathrooms, so we went up another floor and it was fairly full. I ordered the spicy pork chop with rice, which was labeled as "hot and spicy" on the menu but it was neither hot nor spicy. It still tasted good though. The only spice kick I got was from eating the actual peppers themselves, which still didn't really do a whole lot. The pork was crispy but would've been nice if there was more. Still, for the price it seemed about right.

Yelp
Food is flavorful! Duck is so tasty! Reminds of my favorite places in SF. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Awful service, mean waitresses, lousy food. There are a million better places to eat in Chinatown.... AVOID

Yelp
Amazing food, simple Cantonese food for cheap! £6 for roast pork over rice. I would come here everyday if I could! Small place but hey, can't complain!

Yelp
Love this place. It was a random choice and couldn't have been better. The first clue was that the place was full of Chinese people. All our choices were excellent.

Yelp
Stopped in here after going to the Irish pub across the street. The food was decent at best and the waiter tried to add on several random entrees to our ticket that we didn't order. Wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
Great place for a no fuss, fast cheap feed. There's hundreds of options to choose from so the difficulty is finding one and going for it. Half roast duck, assorted pigs organs, prawn wonton noodle soup, duck noodle soup and hot and sour soup all passed the test!! Definitely would go back!

Yelp
Great convenience for a cheeky late night (second) dinner. Just beware of the crowd it may attract as well that could really make your meal a little less savoury. We encountered some ratchet entitled brats who were obliviously racists and of course belligerent. Always stand up for what's right and don't let them berate the defenseless restaurant workers. With the help of 3 different patron tables, we were able to rid the dining environment of the obnoxious noise and restore a bit is peace so that we could enjoy our meals again. My wonton noodle soup did its job and a cold winter's night.

Yelp
One of the best chinese around! Definately tops 1997. The service here is alot better than 1997. The food is here is alittle bit better than 1997. Most dishes are the same as every other chiense place on this street, but Hung's stand out more in quality. I usually eat the same thing everytime.. three kinds mixed meat with rice and crab meat with shark fin soup. yum. the best part about this place its open till 4AM ... so get drunk, party, and come back here!

Yelp
I've been to Crispy Duck pretty regularly for the past 8 years and they haven't let me down once! Top quality food, very friendly waiters/waitresses (watch out for the not so friendly spikey white haired old man with glasses on the top floor - I dont like him) and top value. The menu is relatively simple, but you can guarantee for the price you pay (£5-10 per head) you won't be disappointed with the great taste and portion. By far the easiest place to get good nosh after a bar/club crawl as well, since they're open til 4am! :D

Yelp
Visited Hung's earlier for the first time with my boyfriend for some duck and preserved vegetable noodle soup and some grilled dumplings. Both were excellent, and I think both are perfect benchmarks to judge a Chinese restaurant by. The service was great too. Looks a lot like other Chinese restaurants in the area but is much better quality than most and such good value. We will definitely be back again and again to try the rest of the menu!

Yelp
My parents are from Hong Kong and even though they're not fans of the big city they've been making the 2 hour trip to Hung's for some authentic chinese food since I was little and it never disappoints. So fastforward 29 years and I've finally moved to London. It's 4am in soho and I've just been the victim of a pickpocket, do I care? No. Why? Because it's 4am and i'm eating king prawn dumpling noodle soup at Hung's!! The mein (noodles) are perfectly al dente, the soup is clear, fragrant and fresh, and the dumplings have just the right amount of crunch and a generous amount of King prawn in each one. If you're going to go here, and I strongly recommend you do, try the won ton mein, char siu and roast duck rice, the belly pork and rice, and/or the king prawn dumpling mein.

Yelp
Hung's had been on my to-do list since I moved to London last year so I'm glad I finally got to check (excuse me- "tick") it off my list. I stumbled in around 1am on a Monday after checking out Bar Rumba. I ordered the "famous" Kung Pao chicken and a side of egg fried rice. Both were really good, and you know that's not the post-bar buzz talking because bars out here mainly use thimbles to make their cocktails, but that's a different review for a different venue...

Yelp
For some reason, I wasn't really hungry until later at night during my last night in London. I think I was more tired than hungry. Nevertheless, my friend and I ended up looking for a place to eat around 9 pm. We figured we should probably just eat near the hotel we were staying at, W Hotel. There are tons of Chinese restaurants right outside the W. We looked at some of the menus from the outside and then settled at Hung's. I have to say, the price was reasonable compared to other restaurants I've been eating at in London, and it was actually good! My dining experience in London haven't been great to be honest, basically have been eating overpriced mediocre food. I don't mind paying $$ for good food, but the I don't like paying lots of money for food that won't even be good. Well, Hung's vegetable noodle soup just hit the spot. I'm glad it was the last stop of my London trip. Beats all the other fancy expensive restaurants I had been dining with.

Yelp
You gotta love the fitting name Hung's. The bright red building exterior, flickering neon lights and the "hung" barbecued ducks in the front window drew me in like a moth to a flame. Wandering around the myriad of small restaurants in London's Chinatown, I was unsure which one to check out further for some takeaway. In the end, it was the very low whitehead:blackhead (Caucasian to Asian) ratio in the place that made me enter this place. 8 GBPs for a huge portion of sliced BBQ pork in my mind was a bargain. Watching it prepped in front of me was also a pretty good show and clearly they are good at this since the guy with the cleaver had all of his fingers before and after. Once I was able to eat it, it was as soul-satisfying as any I have had in Hong Kong in the past. Happy to recommend this place for the hanging BBQ. Looking forward to checking out some other stuff on the menu in the future.

Yelp
Open late for you night owls. I can count with one hand the times I've stumbled in an ungodly hour ordering the same pork-duck-and-more-pork rice dish. The kitchen will drench everything in brown sauce by default; alert the waiter if you'd like to keep your rice white as I do.

Yelp
Very cheap for the locality. Seems to be open practically all night...the dining rooms stacked up on top of each other defy anyone's estimation of the size of the restaurant... all in all, this place has never thrilled me much - it is strictly average and the average rating on Yelp kind of surprises me a bit... But I keep going back there out of sheer convenience when looking for a Chinese fix. But just recently, I discovered another amazing Chinese place close to home (oooh, need to Yelp it) and now all the rest of Chinese options in London have kind of faded in my opinion...including this one, which I might have given a grudging 3-star a few days ago.

Yelp
Great place to come to after 2am when you are intoxicated and hungry when out in the Soho area. Food taste good at that time of night/morning. You may disagree the next time you visit when sober :-)

Yelp
With a front window full of hanging and marinading roasted meats, Hung's set their stall out early. It would have been churlish to ignore this carnivorous bounty and, being no churl, we went for a selection of char siu, the honeyed roast pork, along with crispy cubes of belly pork known as siu yuk. Neither was bad by any stretch of the imagination, but served simply on a bed of rice they came over either as underpowered or too subtle, depending how charitable you're feeling. Moist and well cooked, I just wanted more taste. Flavourwise, things improved with a beef brisket hot pot. Big chunks of meltingly tender beef fell apart in a thick gravy of umami flavour. MSG enhanced? Almost certainly, the cloying afterburn of the flavour enhancer was unmistakable, but a perfect dish for a cold February night notwithstanding. Oddly, despite being a hot pot dish, it was obviously cooked in another dish and served in the clay pot as the outer container arrived stone cold, hastening the cooling down of the meat inside.

Yelp
I went for wonton noodles served at an old favourite, Hung's on Wardour St (near the Chinatown arch). This place is my regular Chinatown haunt and it has barely changed in all the years I've eaten here despite a refurb and name change (it used to be called Crispy Duck). It might look tiny but its on three floors so don't be put off if it seems full. Whilst it won't change your life, Hung's wonton noodles (£4.50) tick all the boxes. The wontons have the right mix of prawn and fatty pork, they use the proper fresh egg noodle (san mein in Cantonese) and the broth isn't MSG laden. It's not a big bowl but compared to the miniscule portions that you sometimes get in Hong Kong, it's a supersize portion. Anyway, you get your money's worth with six wontons. I tried king prawn dumpling soup noodles (£4.80) a week later, these dumplings are bigger than their wontons and have more king prawn. They're known as sui gow in Cantonese or shui jiao in Mandarin. In my opinion, these are tastier than their wontons !

Yelp
The food is good, not great, but the prices are very reasonable and they're open late. It's a perfect spot for a quick post-theater meal. I ordered the 3 meats over rice, selecting the duck, roast pork, and pork belly. The roast pork was a decent char siu. The duck was good. My favorite was the pork belly, which was served at room temperature. Very tasty, but it's a good thing that you only get a small portion with this dish as there's a lot of fat involved.

Yelp
It is a three floor restaurant with a small entrance. There are also few tables on the entrance floor. When you enter you are told which floor to go. Stairs smell a mix of bleach and oil. Sounds not nice but whenever we visited, the place was always busy. You feel that its a place for tourist groups, fast food taste, very quick service and staff stares at you when you finish your food meaning to leave. Sometimes you even receive the bill without asking. It has extensive menu like the others in Chinatown. Crispy aromatic duck is seriously tasty! But I find the mains oily. After all our visits I can say that the service, quality is descending.

Yelp
I'd visited Hungs today and was 'indicated' to my seat. I chose soya chicken and roast pork on hot rice with a side of stir fry choi sum. With my rice I had 4 pieces of chicken (looked as if this was left over from yesterday) and about 8 pieces of roast pork which cost me £7.50. This dish was tasteless! My stir fry choi sum was overload with chopped garlic and I'd literally had to scrape the garlic on each piece of choi sum so that I could eat it! The stir fry choi sum was delicious - this dish cost me £10 which is very steep. Also don't sit on ground floor as the restaurant had no heating and with the main door frequently opening/closing you will get cold and so would your food! I strongly advise you to sit upstairs, if you still want to visit this restaurant. I wouldn't come here EVER again as the food was expensive and the meat was tasteless - even with the soya sauce on the rice.
