Representing 2018 in alphabet series, N is for Noodles & Company. I used to go to this location somewhat regularly when I was at the office from 2018 to early 2020. This was always a solid choice. I generally got the pesto cavatappi, which was always delicious. I went to this location a couple of times Covid, post-Covid. One time I went in 2022 or 2023 when I was at the office. Staff was nice. I commented with the woman that I used to come here more, but pretty uncommon I come to my office these days but happened to be at office today and that before Covid, I used to go here pretty frequently. She commented how business did take a hit as a result of Covid and altered travel & lunch patterns.
2025 was the interesting story:
I revisited on Monday, October 6, 2025 with my girlfriend. They were celebrating their 30th anniversary and rolling back prices to 1995 on a few of their classic items including my favorite the pesto cavatappi. At first, we were annoyed by something that had occurred. So, I scanned my app, and the cashier was not too friendly or swift, and said that the deal could be applied for one. Then, the manager chimed in saying we can't get more than one, which I was not aware or think this was going to happen. We had thought of paying separately, but she didn't have the app, and you needed the app to get the deal. She was going to download, but the cashier & manager were trying to get me to pay & ultimately paid as there were 10 or so people behind us, perhaps a large group or a couple of groups, but we didn't want to hold up the line.
Food came out pretty quickly. I honestly was a bit underwhelmed as I felt the pasta & chicken was salty, which I didn't like this time. My girlfriend agreed. Also, we were talking about the negative experience here. I said to her I might try to talk to the manager after we eat. She said you could try, but I can tell I don't see her being helpful based on the reaction.
Shortly after that conversation, while still eating our food, the manager came around to see how everything is. I do like when managers of businesses do that as it's a nice effort to see how people like their food. I was honest with the manager. I kindly told her about the food being a little salty. Then, I mentioned how I was disappointed with that the discount was only for one and how we were going to pay separately but the line got long behind us and didn't want to take up more time.
The manager said that it was corporate that had all the rules of limit of one per order and that it had to be through the app. If it was up to her, she wouldn't have those rules corporate has. She apologized saying sorry it didn't go well for us. She said have 2 meals on us handing us cards for 2 free meals. You can come to this location or any location that's convenient. I was very appreciative. After getting the free and the overall dialogue with the manager, this saved Noodles & Company from being a negative 2-stars with a bad taste in my mouth to 4-stars with a positive feeling. We haven't used our free Noodles & Company meals yet, but we will at some point by expiration of 6/30/26 at Columbia, Laurel (my closest location to my home), or elsewhere.
