Prior to visiting this location of Noon O Kabob, I had been to their original location in Chicago and the one on Elston and Milwaukee (which I believe is now closed) location. I enjoyed the food I had at those locations very much. So, when I learned that there was a Highwood location, I had to check it out.
Recently, I decided to check out Beermiscuous in Highwood, where you can bring your own from outside while you enjoy their beers. Therefore, my party and I decided to do a takeout dinner from this Noon O Kabob restaurant. We looked up their menu online and found a good variety of dishes that we were interested in trying.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted right away by one of the staff members who inquired if we were there for dine-in or doing a takeout and that they were out of a couple of items from their menu. Upon checking out their menu, we learned that their menu is not the same as their Chicago location as this location does not serve everything that their Chicago location does. Point in case this location does not serve Persian ice cream, among a few other things. Also, they were out of Lamb kabobs.
It took us a few minutes longer than usual to finalize our order, given that they were out of a few items. Upon finalizing our order, we ordered six falafel pieces, a roasted, pureed eggplant dish called Kash-E-Badmejan, Koubideh (grilled ground sirloin beef in Persian seasonings) entree which came with your choice of rice and some veggies, a grilled ground Lamb wrap, a grilled ground Lamb skewer, and a side of grilled veggies (instead of a salad) which supposed to have bell peppers, tomatoes and onions.
While we waited for our order to get ready, we were offered a complimentary, deliciously refreshing hot Persian tea. It was perfect for that time of the evening. Finally, after about 15 minutes' wait we received our order. Finally, after we got our food, we went to Beermiscuous and had our dinner. The falafel and Kash-E-Badmejan were easily the two best dishes of what we ordered. The eggplant dish was super flavorful and delicious. It, along with the falafel, hit the spot well. My grilled ground sirloin beef dish was decent but not as good as what I had at their Chicago location. The texture was good, and it was cooked properly, but it was lacking in seasoning flavor. The mix of dill and saffron rice was great. The rice was tender and had a good taste. The ground Lamb dishes were good. The meat was not only cooked well but also had a good flavor. The portion sizes were good. We got everything but the grilled veggies. They did not give us that, but we were charged for it. I called the restaurant about half an hour or so later (they were closed by then), but their manager answered by call and apologized for that. He said he would give me a credit for it for next time as opposed to refunding me the cost.
Their menu has a good variety, but their prices were a bit higher than expected. E.g., the eggplant dish seemed a bit pricey at $12.99. The service was okay. It's a counter service like place if you are to dine-in. It's a nice addition to the Highwood restaurant scene. It's worth a visit if you haven't had Persian food before.
