The Best Restaurants In The Outer Banks, North Carolina

"There are a lot of restaurants in the Outer Banks that focus on seafood, but also do a bit of everything. Noosa Beach Grill is one of those spots, but they actually execute everything on its all-over-the-place menu well, and it’s a bit less packed than the classic joints along Croatan Highway. The shrimp and grits are rich without being too heavy or greasy, and the fish and chips are perfectly golden and salty. They really hammer in the “beach grill theme,” from the hippie van logo to the cocktails like Tropical Depression, their boozy take on a rum punch. The versatile menu and cozy indoor space mean it’s also a great backup option for lunch, dinner, or drinks if your outdoor plans get rained out." - anne cruz

Stopped here because it was within walking distance of our vacation rental. The outdoor patio is dog friendly, and the waitress immediately came and filled out water glasses along with a bowl for our pup. The food was excellent! The shrimp and grits were a nice portion, with the shrimp perfectly cooked and a nice, spicy chunk of pork under a perfectly cooked dippy egg. The grits were the perfect consistency and nice and creamy/cheesy. It all compliments the sauce well. My husband had the fish tacos with fries and said they were excellent - fresh tasting with the combo of ingredients and the fries were hot and crispy. Great spot for a quick bite.

Our server was great! Very nice and professional. Food came out at a reasonable time, fresh and warm. Drinks were great! Outdoor dining at night time is a must. Very clean and would definitely come back when we are back at OBX.

First time here. Stefan was such a good server! Water was served & the bottle was left on the table, which I love! We are big water drinkers with a meal. We shared the Buffalo jumbo shrimp 🍤 appetizer, which was excellent. It came with celery sticks & a yummy blue cheese dressing. For our meals, we both went for the fish & chips. The fish was Mahi, and delicious! I'm a coleslaw snob, and there's was so good! The fries, handcut, were good, and the serving size for everything was very generous! We will definitely be back!

The atmosphere, food and service were absolutely phenomenal. Our server Tania and General Manager Daniel treated us like royalty. The blackened tuna bites and salmon were out of this world. Specialty drink menu amazing. Best restaurant near Kitty Hawk. Then go next door to Scoops ice-cream.

Google
Honestly, we really wanted to love this place. The outside is welcoming and the inside is too. Very nicely decorated and fun environment. The menu and drinks all sound delicious. The drinks were good. That’s pretty much where it ends. The drinks took a very long time to arrive. It was clear they were short staffed? Seemed the bar tender was also serving 5-6 tables as well as making drinks so I understand the long wait time for them.. the service wasn’t good. Rushed. No small talk, nice/warm greetings. Just stuck to the basics and rushed to get away as quickly as possible. The food was very bland and for the prices, HOLY COW at least give a bigger portion if you’re going to charge so much…. I wouldn’t recommend coming here unless you just want to have a drink. Meals pictured here and 2 drinks cost $107 dollars.

Stopped by here about 6pm and a Wednesday and there was a 45 minute wait for a table inside. We opted for an outside seat despite how warm it was outside, but we were seated right away. Food was excellent! Staff was pleasant however it seemed they were too occupied with the inside guest and outside patrons weren't tended to as quickly. Would still recommend this establishment because the food was outstanding!

Google
We were very happy to have chosen Noosa Beach Grille for our dinner. It was delicious! We were happily greeted and seated. I had the Beet Salad w grilled salmon cooked to perfection. The salad was very fresh and the citrus vinaigrette dressing was so light and delicious I wanted to lick the bowl! My husband ordered the fish and chips, his usual choice. 🤣 He loved it!! He even noted that the homemade tartar sauce was really good. The fries were fresh and yummy also. Our server Bridget was so pleasant as well. We have put Noosa Beach Grille on our list of go-to-places whenever we visit OBX. Oh, and if you have room for dessert, they have a wonderful Noosa Ice Cream Parlor right next door! Noosa heaven! Thanks, NBG!

Google
Noosa is awesome! The Mahi fish and chips was delicious. The hand cut fries were the best I've had in OBX

Yelp
What a way to start our vacation! We had an incredible experience here. Great food, some of the drinks were really special - their drink menu is curated by a true mixologist- they take you on a ride! I had the ribeye gyro. It was great and flavorful with cucumbers that were freshly pickled and naan that was soft and fresh. My wife had the fish and chips. Very nice and generous sized Mahi filets very lightly breaded. The mahi really elevated the dish. The fries were skin on and delicious. The music was a little loud for lunch but our server helped us without a moments hesitation. Now, on to our server... Riley... wow... it is somewhat rare these days to find someone who really takes serving seriously. She was fully attentive, asked me questions when I asked for recommendations, I would be surprised if there was anything on the menu that she had not eaten. She also recommended some of the beverages we drank that were incredible including one with a habanero syrup that still has me licking my lips! We will likely eat here again before we leave!

Yelp
Everything was very good, I had the popcorn shrimp 10/10, the mussels were good -Kade 8yo

Yelp
This spot is super cute. The crab cakes are a absolutely amazing. They might be the best I've ever had. The seafood also good as well as the fish and chips but the real start of the carb cakes. The service was good and good came out in a timely matter. I would highly recommend checking it out.

Yelp
Great food and breezy outdoor seating! We came for a Memorial Day weekend, so many restaurants had a 1-2 hour wait for our 8-person party. Luckily we found this place with a 20 minute wait, so we took photos against their cute backdrops and then enjoyed beers outside until they seated us. I was happy with my watermelon sour and my beet salad, which was light and flavorful with a fun sweetness from the candied nuts. Friends were happy with their fish tacos, which were sizable, and the fish n chips. Service was excellent and, when we mentioned we wanted to catch the sunset at Jockey's Ridge nearby, they considerately came back with the exact time of the sunset and made sure we got our food and check quickly so that we made the sunset with plenty of time!

Yelp
This was our second visit and again I find it falling short. The last time I said that the calamari was good, but this go around it was very bland. Tender but not flavor. My wife had the salad with grilled chicken breast. Chicken was cooked just right and good. Salad was fresh but dressing lacked flavor. She said that it was almost like water. The coconut shrimp were excellent. They have potential but still have a ways to go. Gage, our server did a great job. I wish the food was as consistent as the service. Their ice cream is great.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Tried the ma's meatballs, they were a hit with the family. Other apps were the chorizo cheese dip (excellent), tuna bites. All were excellent. Had two of the Caipirinha drinks. Wanted something like a Mojito. We had the Great Barrier Platter, Flounder special, Veal bolegese, spicy beef and bean soup, veggies of the day, aisle and side loft rice and beans. Service was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. Ambiance is casual and fun. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Came here on a group outing for dinner. Even in the off-season, definitely recommend reservations. I ordered a non-alcoholic beer. Be advised some offerings have non-traditional ingredients, so beware. The fish & chips did not disappoint. Crispy batter and flaky fish. The hand cut fries made me smile--adding a touch of nostalgia. Everything was delicious. There was a full house, so lots of conversations going on. Waitress was friendly, attentive, and on her game--even with a large party.

Yelp
Fun and great motif all around the restaurant. Hubby had short ribs which were delicious. He hates brussell sprouts and will never eat them, however i told him how awesome they were with the sauce so he tried them and loved them (maybe that's why we ran out of the delicious sauce)! I had the Mediterranean pasta with tuna, grilled (nor blackened). It was a very flavorful and delicious combo and huge portion. Service was excellent. Happy to have found this gem!

Yelp
All the hosts and servers were very nice and attentive. Tuna bites were very good and I highly recommend. Tile fish ceviche special was also good, but would pick the tuna bites over the ceviche. Also got the seafood pasta and scallops with risotto. Scallops were done well and I enjoyed them but they were a little salty and I personally like the seafood pasta better. We enjoyed all the drinks we tried. Would definitely visit again to try more menu items.

Kim M.

Yelp
I'm not sure why this restaurant hasn't been on our radar until now, but this place is a gem. The food was really good. I was eyeing that seafood pasta from all the pics and it was just as good as I imagined it would be. We also had the mojito salmon dish and calamari. We had several cocktails - Pina picante (with bourbon), report to schwartz, and campfire fool. They were all pretty amazing. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu/cocktails.

Yelp
This year we decided to try all new places instead of going back to our usual spots. This was our first stop and it'll be hard to top. The inside is well laid out with a decent amount of seating plus a rather large bar and outdoor options. The cocktail menu was pretty extensive and it was tough to pick just one drink to start with. Our server helped me pick between the two I narrowed it down to. I got the Tropical Depression and my husband had the Report to Schwartz. Both were dangerously smooth and perfect for drinking slowly through dinner. I ordered the scallop dinner and he got the crab cake dinner. Both were delicious. Like seriously, even the spinach was amazing in my dish. The dessert was also tasty. We can't recommend their cheesecakes enough. The service was excellent from start to finish. We were never left too long without someone checking in and the drinks and food all came out in a reasonable amount of time. This will officially be at the top of our list of places to visit each year going forward.

Yelp
We were looking for a dinner place that took reservations or where we could call ahead for a party of six, including a vegetarian and a person with severe food allergies .Noosa did not disappoint. Excellent food, pleasant service.

Meggan J.

Yelp
What could have been a great experience turned in to a very disappointing one. We came in with a big party around 430 and were the first dinner guests to arrive. Two of us ordered fish tacos which is their most popular dish. Surprisingly they were so fishy we couldn't eat them. Maybe they were having an off night, but it was bad. So bad both of us could barely get the first bite down. I don't usually send food back so I waited until the end of the meal and explained the fish was off. We weren't upset until what happened next. We didn't ask for the manager but she rudely came over and abrasively said "I mean, you ordered fish tacos, what did you expect?" as if I'm some kind of moron who doesn't know what a fish taco should taste like. Her defensive attitude and nasty tone of voice was inappropriate and uncalled for. She sent free dessert over to us and told the waitress to tell us because she bought us dessert the fish tacos stayed on the bill. We didn't ask for the dessert we only ate a few bites of, and I wish I could say it was a nice gesture but it was a crappy move disguised as a gesture of goodwill so she could justify not adjusting the two plates off our bill, despite the fact they weren't touched and she didn't seem concerned about our feedback about the fish. The waitress independently decided to take her 20% gratuity off the check to make up for the managers rudeness. It was apparent she was trying to make it right despite the circumstances. We tipped her anyway because it wasn't her fault, and we felt embarrassed for our server- kudos to Tatiana for acting with integrity. Perhaps the Manager should take a page out of her book. Mistakes happen, and how you right them says a lot about your business practices and values. In a community like OBX, there are a lot of great small businesses and restaurants to give your money too who value your patronage. This isn't one of them. We won't reccomend this to any guests who stay at our vacation rental.

Yelp
We sat at the bar for lunch and we were served promptly and she went through the specials for the day. We started with the calamari appetizer and that was fantastic!! I don't usually care for it because it's flavorless and greasy at other places but this tasted fresh and light and yummy. I also ordered the beet salad with the fresh catch and homemade citrusy dressing. It was filling and delicious. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips.
google avatar

Yelp
First time here and greatly pleased. Extensive cocktail menu with a dozen or more specialty drinks. I ordered the born in the bizou which was a play on a French 75 with grapefruit. Loved it! My friend ordered the beach boujie and enjoyed it. I believe it was vodka based. We shared the baked Brussels which were amazing. Almost like broccoli and cheese but with Brussels. The mahi tacos were good flavor wise, just wish the slaw was on top, seemed like I didn't taste the slaw until the end of the taco. I also would've appreciated an offering of corn tortillas rather than flour. Fries were great. Good service.

Yelp
Looking for a place for dinner on a summer night in OBX for a group of 10 isn't easy! But they were able to accommodate us and our service was amazing! The food was delicious and made our first night in OBX perfect! Loved the strawberry basil cocktail!!!

Yelp
We came on a Saturday at 7:15p. We were told it was a 30 minute wait, but it turned out to be over an hour. I suppose people didn't want to leave. The atmosphere looked fun, but the people working seemed to be focused on other things besides my family. The food was good / okay. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits. I think it was the best meal ordered - I ended up trading it with my son though because he didn't care for his and... well I'm the dad that eats anything... (The Jerk Chicken was sweet and had no heat at all - it was weird, I wonder if that was a mistake). The experience didn't leave me wanting more. It may have just been bad timing. But, when we left, we felt wiped out from the dining experience vs. having a fun time.

D C.

Yelp
The food was average, the service from the waiter was sub-part. On their menu it says a 20% gratuity is added for parties of 6 or more... our party of 5 was auto-charged a 20% "service charge". When we asked why we were told "because your bill got close to $200". We weren't able to be given a good explanation of why that was not stated on the menu or elsewhere or why a service charge was added to a $170 bill. We won't return. Edit* the manager did reach out to us and apologized for the inappropriately charged service fee and refunded us, which was greatly appreciated.

Yelp
Noosa Beach Grill is a casual, beachy spot on the banks with fresh, delicious food. It's popular, so I recommend making a reservation since indoor seating is limited. The bar is first come, first serve. The cocktails are creative and match the Australian vibe, and the service is super friendly. Daily specials and a fresh catch of the day are always available. I tried the meatballs with cheesy toast and homemade marinara--so good! The brussel sprouts, baked in a cast iron with a creamy sauce, were a hit too. Great spot for lunch or dinner, and don't forget to grab a cold treat from their shop next door!
google avatar

Yelp
Got lunch today at Noosa Beach Grill. It was really good. Everyone started nibbling before I could even get the pictures! The Mahi fish with the fish and chips was so fresh. My husband had the scallop appetizer with zucchini fritters, also really good. My daughter had the beet salad with grilled Mahi - amazing! Decided to go crazy and share a homemade dessert. We had Key Lime Pie. It was absolutely the best I've ever had. Service was quick and efficient. We loved the Caribbean music and over all laid back feeling there. We would definitely go back again!

Yelp
This place was absolutely fantastic. I don't use that word much, but this establishment deserves it. Was touring the Outer Banks with a friend and had some early brews at Swells'a. My friend and I wanted some good grub that wasn't far, and found this place on Yelp. From the drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert, everything was top notch. My bud snagged a signature cocktail and mentioned it was good and mixed well. The Tuna Bites were solid, and I had the Seafood Pasta for my entree and it was delicious. Somehow had room for dessert and went with what the server recommended and it was perfect. A great time, nice establishment, and food and service was excellent. Thank you!
google avatar

Ozoda U.

Yelp
Excellent food cooked to perfection. The steak was tender and juicy, the fish tacos already had some melted cheese in taco shells (yum) and burger was good too. We also ordered a cheesecake and sweet tea. Total bill for 3 entrees, cheesecake and 1 sweet tea was 90$. Our server - Katya was very sweet and attentive to our needs. Thank you! The place has a great ambiance and warm green comfort.

Michael L.

Yelp
I had the filet mignon which came topped with crab meat and some sauce on top of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables (instead of asparagus). It was pretty good, but a bit pricey in my opinion at $50 or $55. The service was good.

Baylee B.

Yelp
We went to Nooda Beach Grill today while on vacation and it was delicious! The place is so cute and our server, Riley, was so wonderful! They also had gluten free options, I always find it hard to find places I can eat at while on vacation but they had many options and they were all clearly labeled which made it easy. The food and service was great and I would definitely recommend stopping in!
google avatar

Kaitlynn J.

Yelp
The ambiance was confusing. It felt like a place that wanted to be fancy but wasn't. The food wasn't bad, drinks were not good, our server was nice & we have no true complaints. Just wouldn't eat there again or recommend
google avatar

Jane M.

Yelp
Outstanding fresh ingredients. Many options available. Full bar makes a great Old Fashion. Wait staff friendly and professional. One of my favorite eateries for this local. Consistently excellent.
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
Really loved this place. Made a reservation for 8 on our last night in OBX and were seated promptly. We had 4 kids and 4 adults and I felt like I actually got to enjoy my meal which is not a given when eating out with kids. A lot of that was due to the service which was quick and prioritized getting the kids their food first. Drinks were phenomenal and delicious. And honestly so was the food. Buffalo shrimp and mussel apps for the adults. My scallop entree was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and they did not skimp on the amount.
google avatar

Sharon G.

Yelp
This is our "go to" for special occasions. We celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary here tonight and - as always - amazing food, drinks, service and vibes. Thanks so much to all involved!!!
google avatar

Aliyah F.

Yelp
Beautiful, up-scale restaurant while keeping true to the beach vibes. The service was quick and efficient. And the food was absolutely delicious! Fresh caught seafood every day - there's nothing like it!
google avatar

Paulina D.

Yelp
The place is great! Looks very cute and clean but unfortunately we had a long waiting cause they only had one person serving and making the stuff. I got an açaí bowl which I had to wait like 10 mins cause the girl had to serve all the other ice creams from the people in line before she could prepared my açaí. The açaí was good though.
google avatar

Ema S.

Yelp
The restaurant was beautiful! It was very spacious and lots of windows, with really cute coastal decor. My waiter was so sweet and recommended the tuna wrap, which I got. It was amazing, and the tuna was fresh and so good with fresh veggies. Service was quick and she made sure we all had water and anything we needed.
google avatar

Jonathan W.

Yelp
The food was outstanding. We had the Philly Cheese Steak, seafood pasta, and shrimp & grits. All three were very tasty. The service was also great; teamwork across the restaurant staff was excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Lilyanna E.

Yelp
The place is cute and beachy. I ordered the salmon with rice, it was ok but for the price no salad or bread. We ordered fish and chips which were too oily and limp. The server didn't ask if we needed anything and it wasn't crowded. The check was $50 which won't have me coming back!

Emily S.

Yelp
Been to Noosa and it is a foodie town: this did not disappoint. Surprisingly good and the seafood pasta was excellent as was the fish special. Glad that the nearby diner with higher reviews for burgers (caught a glimpse of the fare) was full: we ate at the bar and it was lovely.
google avatar

Doreen C.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch. Had a bad feeling when they seemed a bit disorganized on the seating process. Waiter didn't realize he never gave us our drinks. I opened my rolled silverware and there was a dead bug on the fork. My friend was mixing up her salad when a live bug crawled out. Disgusted we asked for the manager. His response "I don't know how this happened ". We left and they did not charge us. For 2 people at one table to have bugs at their place setting is alarming!
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
Our server was an absolute delight. My husband had a tuna special he loved. I had the fish tacos with mahi mahi. The sauce was a bit too spicy for me. I should've gotten it on the side. But they were still quite good. The mussels we had as an appetizer. Also very good. Oh and I had a great something bougie cocktail.

Andrew B.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Service was top notch. Perfect place to spend Valentine's Day. Vast selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks.
google avatar

S S.

Yelp
Delicious food. A little slow to be seated, ignored by lots of servers walking by, it would have been nice to get a "someone will be right with you" but once we were seated everything was smooth and accommodating. Small restaurant with fun beach/sky blue ambiance. Shrimp and grits was delicious! I did forgo the offered bbq and egg additions and was glad I did as it was perfect. Filtered water and water for sodas would be nice as they both had the "beach water" tang and smell. Got wine which fixed that issue.
google avatar

Rosie B.

Yelp
Excellent food and wonderful service! Went several times during our last vacation. The tuna tartar tower was amazing!
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
As usual food and service was spot on, the gyro and cheesesteak are a favorite, the Noosa salad is also delicious..
google avatar

Krisztina W.

Yelp
Such a fun and friendly place! Cool beach vibes a fun, fresh decor drew us in but what we found inside was much more than expected. The staff was very attentive and ready with a smile, the menu offered a lot of food and drink options for both of our tastes (which is not easy). The orders were brought out in a timely fashion and the food was fresh and delicious, exceeding our expectations. The drink menu was also quite extensive, making picking a beverage easy. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Tori F.

Yelp
Came here during our vacation with 10 people, it was easy to make a reservation on a weeknight and when we arrived 15 min. early our table was ready for us! Our waitress was lovely and attentive. Everything we had was delicious. Started with the Island Dancer cocktail, not too sweet thanks to the basil. We had plenty of apps like the crab mac, buffalo shrimp, and calamari, all of which were devoured in minutes. Soup of the day was NE clam chowder, very tasty and not too heavy. The scallops were to DIE for - I literally ordered these based on other Yelp reviews I read.
google avatar

Albani C.

Yelp
Tasty food (a couple of hits and misses) with a diverse group of menu options. Attentive and helpful service. The ambiance is very beachy, which is to be expected. Plenty of easy parking. I recommend the meatballs, lamb, calamari, and tuna tartare

Tim M.

Yelp
Great food, service and all around experience. Ordered the tuna and pesto pasta. The tuna was cooked perfectly and the pesto sauce was incredible. My wife ordered the scallops and risotto. Where do you ever get an entree with 8 or 9 scallops? Incredible all around!

Alan B.

Yelp
Great late night food source. Terrific wait staff. Very fresh food and quick preparation time. Had beet salad with salmon and grilled fish tacos. The seared tuna appetizer was spectacular. Great local vibe and outstanding food.
google avatar

Francisca B.

Yelp
Great food and service at affordable prices. Our party had the kids buttery noodles, fish and chips, scallops, the tuna bites ( great sauce), and the Noosa salad. Portions were good and very delicious. Highly recommended
google avatar

Mel L.

Yelp
Cute spot. We sat inside and had a very sweet server. I ordered the short rib which was probably one of the top 2 dinners I had all week. Cooked perfectly and I loved the brussel sprouts too. The brussel appetizer wasn't as good though as it was swimming in cheese sauce. We also ordered seafood pasta which was described as "nothing special and kind of overpriced." Personally, I liked it but have to give four stars because others in my party were not as impressed as I was.

Jon B.

Yelp
Great service, nice clean restaurant, with good food and good people. The regular bartenders always take good care of me and I take family and friends to Noosa whenever they visit. Never disappointed in food or service here. Other favorites are the fish tacos, fish n chips and the daily specials are always interesting. A welcome addition to the obx dining seen for lunch and dinner. Also one of the few places that offers 7 days a week. Never worry about what day of the week it is just get there after 11am and get lunch. As one of the young kids visiting us liked to say Noosa! Noosa! Noosa! He fell in love with the shrimp basket on the kids menu.

Yelp
Had a reservation on Fourth of July that we made months prior. I even called two weeks before to update the reservation to more people and the host did it happily. Showed up on Fourth of July to them being closed with a party of 10 at 7:30 at night on a holiday. We were left to run home and eat leftovers so we wouldn't miss the fireworks.. This was my husband's 40th birthday that we had planned a special dinner for. Called the manager and got a half ass apology with no other solutions. Not great customer service. They started they called and text me, no missed calls or texts.
