London’s Best Park Bench Meals

"Nori is in the deliverable vicinity of both Richmond and Bushy Park and that is very good news. Their tendon (tempura donburi) is a bowl of fluffy rice with prawn and vegetable tempura on top, covered with a kimchi mayo and unagi sauce - a mix we would very much like in a squeezy bottle, always to hand. And the pumpkin curry: a bowl of rice, topped with perfectly shaped pumpkin croquettes and a pot of vegetable curry sauce on the side, is also excellent. Food was okay, but disappointed w the rice as they used long grain instead of sushi grade rice that you would get in authentic jp restaurants. (Not quite sure why the short cuts) The unagi rice bowl only 5 small slithers of fish, I thought it was fillet you get in Asia - wasn’t impressed. The pork cutlet was okay but kids enjoy but not quite the jp style I hoped - (more of a schnitzel), having eaten in jp. service was courteous and friendly.

I really enjoyed the food at Nori – it's authentic and full of flavour! If you're looking to try real traditional dishes, this is definitely the right place. However, the smell inside the restaurant wasn’t very pleasant, and the overall hygiene could be better. The staff are friendly but seemed a bit too busy chatting with each other, so I had to call them a couple of times to get their attention. Still, the quality of the food makes up for it – I’ll definitely be back.

Nori, New Malden The food here is fantastic — fresh, authentic, and bursting with flavour. The Karaage sharing platter, Fried Tofu, and Butadon (pickles included) all transported me straight back to Japan. Easily the highlight of the visit. The setting, with booths and sake bottles lining the walls, really captures the Izakaya feel. The downside was the service. We had a 17:00 reservation, but the restaurant wasn’t ready, and staff felt indifferent throughout and we found out after the fact that the drink selection was a little limited. Having worked in hospitality, I know how much attentive service can elevate a meal, and that was missing here. That said, the food alone makes it worth visiting again. If the service catches up to the kitchen, Nori could be truly outstanding.

I find Japanese restaurants tricky to review. For most people that do not know Japanese food well and have not been to Japan this restaurant will be excellent. Good value, decent food. It is Korean owned and Korean run with the cooks from all over Asia, including some Japanese (they said). The atmosphere and decor are very good.

Food: Some solid food all around. The tempura, the gyoza and the eggplant were a particular highlight but the karaage wasn't bad either. Although, we did feel that the sashimi platter really missed the mark for us. The fish itself was fine but we wish there was more variety of fish. Service: The wait staff were very diligent overall. Professional and courteous for the most part. Although the food does take a while to show up. Granted, we did have a large order but the chicken showing up when we've finished everything was a bit out of sync. Atmosphere: the interiors were well designed and the restaurant had a nice vibe to it and was clean and quiet. Overall, a decent experience.

Visited several times before and this is the lowest score I gave to Nori. Seriously thinking to remove this restaurant from my list. Most of the dishes were flooded with different kinds of sauce. I ordered the Tendon for my son. In Japan, they never put thick sauce on Tendon, so that you can really taste the freshness of the ingredients and to appreciate the cooking skill of the chef. You can see from my pictures that the tempura was covered by hot & spicy mayo and the salty dark sauce (I won’t say it was teriyaki or unagi sauce, because it just didn’t taste right). My son could hardly eat that because no one expected a Tendon was that salty, hot and spicy! My poke bowl was also pre-added with shichimi and not served with wasabi. Very creative to add pecan onto eggplant…. Seems everything was a joke to me. Creativity is fine, while if your positioning is ‘high end’ Japanese food as stated on your website, it is important to make good use of your ingredients, instead of adding different weird sauces to make yourself like the low end chain sushi stores. Or it might be better to have another ‘clean’ option for customers who dislike those non-Japanese cooking elements. Sorry Nori, we were a bit disappointed this time. We really hope that Nori can take customers advice into consideration. We are not the only one in our friend groups having fair to negative comments on Nori. What we still appreciated were the good price and friendly staff.

We went there to celebrate my daughter's birthday last weekend, the staff was so kind to reserve a table at a warm, cosy and quiet corner for us. The food is absolutely amazing, and they even gave my daughter a pleasant surprise for her birthday! We were so thankful for this! Can't recommend Nori enough, we will definitely visit again!
