Normal Bar

Always a great time. Folks are nice, drinks are yummy and the place is always busy. It’s a dark cozy vibe inside but there is outdoor seating with fire pit options as well! We have used the party room a few times and it was always great!

We came here because Automatic Pizza didn’t have enough seating and they deliver to Normal Bar, which is so convenient. We had 7 people around 7:45 on a Friday night. Normal Bar was already packed, but we got lucky that a table opened up right when we got there. The non-draft beer is cheap. Athens has pretty cheap drinks in general, but Normal Bar is even cheap for Athens. Good beer, like Tropicalia, will run you $5. I got the Killer Bee cocktail ($8) and it was delicious. They have darts and a TV. The vibe is very chill, with people just hanging out and enjoying a good drink. We will definitely be back here!

Great neighborhood bar and one of the few places left in town that still has a dart board.

It's okay. Way too dark inside. I mean when you can't see what's in front of you, the lights need to come up a bit. Bartender took a friend's order and completely forgot about her.

They refuse to print a transaction receipt for you. Seven beers cost $55. I could walk across the street and get the same thing for $14. Lousy.

The most professional bar service in town and its away from downtown if you want to hang out with adults. $2 bud heavy all the time, some fancy beers on tap and fresh fruit cocktails if you need to impress a date. Update: bud heavy is $3 now. Probably has been for a while. 8-24 Update: Bud heavy is $3.50. Thanks Obama! Also not always an adult crowd unless you go to happy hour.

This bar often has a bonfire in the back that makes a great atmosphere. Prices are reasonable and bartenders are friendly. It gets the 5-stars for free dart playing on decent boards and the best boiled peanuts. They also have always alcohol free cocktails on the menu for the driver.

I love this bar. I go at least once a week because it’s a great way to get away from the students of Athens Georgia. We are a college town but this place is a refuge from Partying college students and offers mature adults to share in mature conversations. Their selection of alcohol and beer is a lot. And the service is friendly and fast. I recommend this place to all who are looking for a fun atmosphere that suits your age, if you’re over 25 years old.

One of my favorite locals spots! Comfortable and relaxed with great options for all - cocktails, beer, wine, N\A options, and CBD drinks. Pro tip - walk next door to Automatic Pizza and ask for "delivery" to Normal bar. They'll give you a table # and bring it to you at Normal Bar.

Terrific cool hipster bar in old Normaltown. This area is a better bar scene now because of all the mixed use undergrad bars in downtown. Great cocktails and gave me a slice of pizza!!!

Usually I avoid the Normal, tending to appreciate things slightly abnormal to most, but since I was in Normaltown it seemed like the thing to do. They had a nice beer and liquor selection. Comfy seating for me and my pals to gather and chat. Nice bartenders and a clean bathroom. It's a great neighborhood bar.

Can I say it's my favorite bar and leave it at that? No? Well then: I love the music, I love the Braves games, I love that it's a 7 minute walk from my house, I love the bartenders, I love the boiled peanuts, I love the generous pours of whisky, I love the Manhattans (though I was sad when they switched to making them with bourbon so now I explicitly order them with rye) ... I love the darts, the atmosphere, the prices, the patio, the food next door by Ike @ Nite, the peanut butter & honeys, even the sign ... I love the fact that it helped make Normaltown relevant after 8 pm. ...and while I love the familiar scotch selection, I'd love to see it grow ;).

My friend wanted Malibu and Coke. "We don't have Malibu" Ok, Bacardi and Coke. "We don't have Bacardi". Wow! Am I in the hills of West Virginia? Tell you what they do have though.... 2 couples letting their toddlers RUN around SCREAMING at the top of their lungs. In a bar? Really? Can't decide which is worse, the inconsiderate parents for bringing them to a bar, or the management for allowing it.

This is a great bar!!! It took us some back tracking to find it but we loved our time here. The patrons and the staff are so nice. We ened up sitting in the back with the fire for a few hours. The drinks were great! The dogs running around made for great entertainment. Should we ever come back to Athens we will stop by here again.

Normal Bar is a breath of fresh air for the neighborhood. At last we have a cozy, laid-back, neighborhood bar within easy walking distance to adjacent neighborhoods (Normaltown, Boulevard, ARMC area, Cobbham, Buena Vista). Designed in warm, reclaimed woods, the bar is dark and lovely. The special drink menu contains surprisingly tasty concoctions you might never have dreamed up, and the service is great. Best-kept secret: homemade boiled peanuts are just $1/bowl! There's a long bar as well as several tables (including a couple of booths); there's also an outdoor area out back. Want to play darts? There's a board at the front of the bar.

Friendly staff. Cheap drinks. Comfy atmosphere. Perfect bar.

Great little local bar to hang out after a long weeks work. Decent seating inside and out. $2 bottle specials and full bar selection. The boiled peanuts are great to munch on while cool off on an ice cold drink. Order from Automatic Pizza next door and they'll drop it off when it's ready. One of our Friday "happy hour" go-to spots. Unfortunately, the last few times we have visited, the bar has been filled with numerous children under age 5. This is often to the point of ruining an opportunity to have a couple drinks and good conversation. Not sure how these young children are allowed in a bar like this. I counted nearly 15 kids one of the last times we went. Makes us think twice about future visits. I have kids, but if I'm going to the bar for a few drinks, they aren't.

Love to stop here after work or for just a break!! Patio is outside and inside is perfect for Normaltown/prince Ave people watching!

Normal Bar quickly became one of my favorite drinking holes. It's very close to my house so I can ride my bike but there's plenty of parking for those who don't have the luxury. Good beer and wine selection. Seasonal cocktails are a hit. Possibly the best bar service in Athens.

Excellent. Perfect. Exactly what what I needed: Too old for college bars, never too old to stop going to bars. Can't wait to come back in a couple of months. Keep on pourin', Normal Bar.

I have to agree with all the other reviewers, this is a fantastic neighborhood bar. Quiet but modern with a great beer and drink list.

A cool bar to chill and hangout with friends. The beer/drink menu is pretty extensive, so there's lots to choose from. The main room is dimly light, plays pretty cool music, and allows for dogs to be inside. There's also a patio in the back and 2 unisex bathrooms that have oddly differently shaped doors. The best way to describe the crowd is older, almost-out-grown-out-of-hipster-scene, type of people. It's also conveniently located across a couple Latin restaurants to get your late-night grub on.

Great drinks. Great prices. Chill place. A great fit for Normaltown.

Great atmosphere, casual enough for a weeknight but fun for weekends too. Coming from Atlanta, can't quite believe the delicious cocktail I got (American mule) was $7. Nice outdoor area.

Good vibes, good drink options and I can't hate on anywhere that serves boiled peanuts. Would be a 5 star if they would turn on a light or 2.

This is magical place. Great place to catch up with friends or watch a game or both. Music is super-cool and so are the owners, Josh and Luke. Also, they are the first corporate sponsor of the Next Round Robin (NRR) fantasy football league, so you know they're good people.

Love Normal Bar! I almost don't want to share how great it is in fear of it becoming another college bar. This is the place to go to get away from the college crowds, meet up with friends and get inexpensive drinks. Oh and did I mention $1 boiled peanuts? Yum! This is a welcoming local hangout with involved staff a great back patio and now double the room. Oh on certain nightsdelicious food can be ordered from Ike and Jane's next door with their Ike at Night window.

A fun bar at the edge of town where you can huddle in the darkness and enjoy fine beverages from their cocktail list, which was pretty exciting to read I must say. I had a vodka cocktail with honey in it, and it was delicious, but then switched back to beer because it's what I like. If you're looking for interesting cocktails though, I know this is the place to go. They had a nice selection of drafts and bottles and wine too. The decor is captivating, with photos and prints from every era it seems, and ranging between local projects to stuff that appeared to have a fertile past. I confess I do not always want the facts about an item, as they tell such elegant stories in their silent presentation. But I do know that this bar spoke softly of a mysterious day to day that can't just be weighed and bundled, but needs to be experienced and appreciated. I mean Athens of course. You've got to sit there quietly without giving to the impulse to eat your feet, and then the place reveals itself, in slow and tiny increments, like a book on Ancient Greece, where boys reigned supreme, without a voice. Normal town? I think not.

Normal Bar is one of my favorite hangouts. The cocktails are made with freshly squeezed juice at the time you order. The prices of the cocktails are phenomenal considering the quality. And the beer prices are even more affordable. Boiled peanuts are only $1. Great atmosphere for talking with friends; the music is always great. FarmCart is out on the back patio serving up food each Thursday (typically). Oh yeah, and it's dog friendly.
