Norman Rose Tavern

Norman Rose Tavern is one of our regular stomping grounds because the food is consistently good and the environment is comfortable. My husband and I went there for a late lunch and sat in a booth by the window to people watch the passersby on the street. We enjoyed our server’s mellow nature and smooth service. I was thirsty from being out in the sun and both server and busser kept my iced tea and water full. Seriously, I must have a hollow leg to store it all! Here’s what we enjoyed: The Wedge Salad is big enough to share. Crispy, fresh, and tasty! My husband was craving a BLT. It was not on the menu but they had all of the ingredients so the server made it possible. He thought it was perfect. The bread and bacon were proportioned evenly making each bite delicious. Their lamb burger is always good. I love how the cheese and greens dance with the flavors of the lamb. What blew us away this time though were the Sweet Potato Fries. Seriously? It is a mystery what made them stand out for us?? They were the best we have ever had. My husband does not like sweet potato fries and he thought they were great. They were cooked to perfection. Nice crusty outside and a tasty inside. We will be back Norman Rose!

Gear outdoor section. Nice bar with comfy seating. Really good food and drinks. Old school cocktails and a good beer selection. The food was outstanding.

It's our anniversary weekend and our very first time here. My husband's friends highly recommended Norman Rose Tavern. I had the succulent salmon and asparagus with decadent lobster butter sauce. Ahhhhh HEAVEN. My husband partook in the juicy and delicious House Roasted French dip. He's on a search for the BEST French dip ever. He kept saying. Omg...top 2 I've ever had. Emerson, the bartender was friendly and jovial. The staff was warm and happy and the patrons were chill and amiable. SUPER HIGHLY RECOMMEND Excellent experience, food and time. Thank you Norman Rose Tavern for knowing how to do it right!

A very cozy and stylish restaurant with an American vibe. The waitress who served us was very sweet and friendly—she recommended some delicious dishes and brought our food very quickly. Everything was truly delicious! I had a vegetable salad, meat with mushroom risotto, and apple pie. I enjoyed it all!

Loved the sidewalk seating and the burger was the best one on our trip! The roll was soft and fresh and the salad was really good too!! Happy hour drinks fair priced, and attentive pleasant servers.

It’s good 8.5/10 The service was very attentive and patient. They explained to us the specialties of the day in detail. The ambience is an upscale bar with booths. We were seated in a booth with very plush soft seats. The food was great! The salmon was moist, the chicken burger was juicy, and the Guinness stew was excellent. The one thing was the fries were smaller than I thought. In other images it was big, and ours was smaller.

Overall, an excellent and versatile bar and restaurant on First Street in Napa. Counter seating, indoor and outdoor seating and able to accommodate small and large parties. A limited number of beers on-tap, but a full bar. The menu is relatively small, but diverse with delicious choices. There's a private dining room. The wait staff is prompt and friendly.

I had awesome food here I got the Wienerschnitzel that came with German potato salad. It is some of the best that I've had. My friend got the French dip sandwich. She stated it tasted really well. Her daughter got the sliders that had Fritos in the hamburger and avocados on it. From what they said. The staff were very friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. We sat in a booth that was very comfortable. The temperature was perfect all around a very good experience.

3.5? Everything was ok. I didn't see some items on the menu that were on Yelp that attracted me (menu changes?). I got the fish tacos and the presentation and portion was good! The fish was big and the batter was crispy! But taste overall was ok. I tried my bfs fried chicken sandwich and it was also ok. The mussels were good. The place itself was clean and servers were nice and friendly.

Tried Norman Rose in Napa - it was across from our hotel. The short rib was very tender, mushroom risotto tasty. Buttermilk fried chicken sandwich also quite tasty. The batter on the fish and chip a little thick. The tiramisu was really good. Service was okay. Ambiance was chill.

Started off with calamari as appetizer which was delicious and super tasty. We also got some Drinks- I got the strawberry cocktail they have which I absolutely enjoyed as it was not too over powering tasting like alcohol (I'm not a big fan of straight up alcohol) so it was very nice for me. For entrees, Fish and chips- 5/10, not very much flavor, soft and crunchy but lacked flavor. New York steaks were ask to be well done and medium well and they both came out about medium-medium rare, which was unfortunate. The short rib was actually quite tasty and very tender. Mac n cheese was ok, and the breadcrumbs on top gave it a nice touch. Truffle fries didn't taste like truffle fries so that gets 6/10. We also got the Brussels sprout (not pictured) which were also a big hit. Went on a Friday night and it seemed like the restaurant was pretty slow, only a couple tables the entire time we were there. Service as a whole was a bit slow, waters stayed pretty much empty the entire time we were there until we were able to wave someone down. Our waiter would be gone for long periods of times so if we did need anything it was almost impossible to get it when we needed/wanted it. Food and drinks overall made up for the service experience.

If I could give this place negative or zero stars I would. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME GOING HERE!! I used yelp to be put on the waitlist. When I was the next person on the list, I walked over and the person said it was still going to be a wait. I went to the bar and still waited about 20-30 mins at least. I actually had to go back up to the hostess and ask why I wasnt seated yet and then I was actually seated. Once seated, I ordered food. Soup, salad and burger. My waiter NEVER gave any updates on the food coming out or even checked on me. About 45 mins later I decided that was enough and I'm leaving. ONLY AFTER I told them I want the check and I'm leaving, an effort was made to get our food to us. I left and I AM NOT COMING BACK. I hope you don't waste your time at a horrible place like this. It's downtown Napa, a ton of better places to go to. So to sum it up, SERVICE HERE IS HORRIBLE. The waiter "I had" in quotes because he just took an order and NEVER checked on us was HORRIBLE. Drinks was meh... better STAY AWAY FROM HERE AND DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

Late dinner with hubby and our kid. She was craving a steak and I wanted some comfort food. We arrived about 45 minutes before closing time. We were promptly greeted and seated immediately (the restaurant was pretty empty). The staff was quick to ask for our order as we got comfy in our seats. We had looked over the menu beforehand so we kinda knew what we wanted. The food was ok but not what I expected. The portions were small and the presentation was a bit off for me. The vegetables did not taste fresh as they were over cooked and almost seemed like they were last of the bunch for the day. The steak was cooked for the most part, but the strip of fat was a bit more than i cared for. The salmon was dry, but the fries were hot and freshly fried. The meatloaf was hearty but the BBQ sauce was a bit overwhelming. I'm glad I asked to be put on the side. Finding the restaurant was easy, street parking is available. I can cross them off my, i gotta try" list

This was a total bonus. We were in the mood for something different & were treated to a very tasty dinner. The location is on the corner and has plenty of street parking. Walked in, it was clearly completely booked, but we were offered a spot at the counter, across from the bar. After checking out the menu, we knew they were slammed in the midst of dinner service. Knowing it would be a while, we opted for ordering everything at once: Drinks, apps, and dinner. My wife ordered the NY steak and I had the pork chop. We also ordered the calamari and Buffalo wings all at once. We devoured the fresh and tasty calamari. It was lightly breaded and cooked perfectly: slightly undercooked, but not quite..just the way we like it. They provided plenty of freshly slice lemon as well. The Buffalo wings were very nice. They were the larger and meatier style, again very delicious and satisfying. The best part was yet to a come. My wife absolutely lover her med rare NY! She is a big steak fan and just as picky as the critics. I tasted a small portion from her plate and agreed it was tender and juicey with loads of flavor. My pork chop was completely satisfy. It was perfectly wmseasoned, not too heavy on the s&p, and double cut portion was just right. Overall, we tipped heavy for the wonderful service. They were quite attentive, despite the huge number of tickets lining the counter top. We watched with enjoyment and were pretty impressed by how organized and prepared they were. The staff knocked out the tickets lime it was business as usual. Our birds' eye view into the kitchen was top notch. Funny part is, it was not our intention to sit at the counter, but our appetite and curiosity clearly won't. Over all, this place will get a very strong Yelp 4.2 to 4.5 from us. Recommend: yes Service: very nice and professional Value: The check was so reasonable, we gladly left a 30% tip! It was that good. We wrote a small note on the bottom of our check, thanking them for the wonderful dinner. Clearly, the owners are present, hands-on and care about what they are putting out during dinner service. I've been in here a couple of times and I usually get really lucky and there isn't usually a wait which is shocking. The food and service have always been top notch at Norman Rose. Even though the prices are a little high it's Napa and when eating out most places are going to be pricey.

A nice restaurant with good food and a nice bar area. They have a Kid menu. Very important when I search for places to eat nowadays I like checking to see if they have that. Staff were very friendly.

I'm going to start with the good. Food is good no complaints. For the price and taste I will go back. The short rib was tender and full of flavor. The salmon appetizer was a big portion and the pan roasted chicken cook perfectly. Now for the bad. The service was bad. Our waiter Israel is overwhelmed. He was serving 5 tables with one of the tables with a party of 8. He barely check on us, didn't ask if we needed more drinks and gave the wrong bill at then end. All I can think of is one of their staff called in sick. Too bad, for a Friday night, the restaurant should be in full force serving and making sure that they turn their tables fast. For the service, I'm not setting foot at this restaurant anytime soon.

Didn't feel comfortable eating here I came in and everybody including customers and employees were staring at me and my wife. I arrived at 7:00pm and we ordered at 7:15pm and took an hour and a half to receive our food. The whole time we were there we kept getting stared at because of our skin color I felt so uncomfortable that I didn't want to eat my food so we paid and walked out. Should've went to Applebees instead of having a nice dinner

My sister in law flew out from Arizona back to her home town of Napa to see friends and family for her birthday. When we got to the restaurant, she had the back room with a large table. The restaurant seemed a little hot (there was a heat wave in Northern California like normal in July) and the people we were with mentioned how hot it was to the waitress and if we could get more air in that room. I guess the temperature couldn't go down any further. We were able to open the back door to the room and get some sort of hot airflow. I believe there was an issue with the air conditioner for the whole building because I saw another restaurant connected to the hallway with a fan blowing into their restaurant. Our waitress was very short and left our table quickly not giving us a chance to ask for more water, or grab a kids menu for our son (the only kiddo at the table) Once our food came to the table, my wedge salad and fettuccine Alfredo was really good. My husband got the steak and said it was dry. At the end when checking out, we paid our portion of the bill which was $200. I didn't get a chance to offer a tip, I imagine it was included in the bill since we had 10 people in our party. In times like this I feel like the waiter/waitress doesn't care how he or she provides great service because no matter what you're paying that tip. I feel my husband and I are great tippers, we've both worked in the food industry and know it's hard making a living and not everyone tips like we do. It's not always the waiter/waitress fault sometimes it the kitchen staff. Possibly a great place for drinks and a party of two

Norman Rose is a good go to for not cheap not expensive dining in Napa. Service is always good and responsive and quick. Some menu items are hit or miss. Fish tacos were bland and soggy. The burger was good but by the time you add toppings and fries, 30 bucks is just too much. Pulled pork nachos were the best.

My review is based off the server that cared so much that I was vegan. He was amazing and so knowledgeable, if he had a doubt he had no problem going back to the kitchen to ask them anything. I appreciate servers that care as much as he did!

Food was fantastic it hit all the wickets exceeding my expectations and service was speedy and extremely polite with a smile. The music is great, loud enough to hear but quiet enough to talk over easily. The facility and rest terms were extremely clean. Highly recommend especially around lunch time on a weekday. Also the Bloody Mary was pretty dang good I ordered mine extra spicy and it did not disappoint. Ordered the French dip two thumbs up!

Thank you Norman Rose for the hospitality during my mother in laws bday lunch. Great food, great atmosphere, good service and comfortable seating. Reservations was easy to make. Yes, right here on Yelp! I called to double check if they allow outside cake and they said yes (they do charge a cake cutting fee however, was not told that but I expected it). As a reminder, I received a confirmation text of my reservation the day before. We walked in and was greeted right away. The hostesses and our server were all super friendly and nice. Patient as well- we asked a lot of questions. All of them answered with a smile and our host even shared some laughs with us when she had to go back in the kitchen and ask. Food was good. I enjoyed my fried l chicken sandwich which I highly recommend! Burgers are a La carte here so add some fries to go with it. Parking can be a pain here due to street parking but don't fret, there are a couple of public parking spaces around the corner. I would absolutely come back here again.

It is a nice place for a drink or two but not for their food. We randomly chose this spot for a quick bite and let me tell you 80 dollars later we were not impressed by the food selection and quality. The chicken sandwich lacked flavor. The service, decorations and location is what you pay for. The sandwiches don't come with fries..it's one of those places.

Overall good meals, nice place that wasn't too noisy. Warriors were on the screens so a plus there. Waitress kinda got lost for a bit so that was an annoying delay- probably a 1x bad day thing I can't hold against the whole establishment.

While in Napa, we stumbled upon the Norman Rose Tavern. They had their menu posted outside, so we got a glimpse into what they offered. There were so many things on the menu that we wanted to try that we had to have lunch here! I don't even know where to start. The overall ambiance was relaxed. We had a comfy booth. The service was great. Our server answered all of our questions, and even made some recommendations. Food: Fish Tacos: One of their specials was fish tacos. They let you order them one at a time. We got one to try and then ordered about 6 more. They were delicious! Egg Rolls: Also fabulous. I would fly to Napa just for these! This is definitely a wonderful place to stop when visiting Napa. It is relaxed, quiet, comfortable, and overall a great vibe with a diverse menu.

Came here on a weekday and it was a slow non busy day. The food was good, but quality did not stand out to me. The waitress was nice, but she seemed a little distracted or removed from work the day I visited. Not a bad spot in Napa, but it didn't give me an experience I would want to come back again for. Would be a five star, but the prices are out of control. I had the best burger of my life here, have not been able to match that burger anywhere!! And that was about ten years ago. Napa restaurants get away with high prices just for being where they are, Norman Rose is definitely not for locals.

Went here with my gf and as we walked in someone greeted us right away. The vibe was really fun and inviting. As We sat down looking Over the menu we decided to split the chicken sandwich, Parmesan Truffle fries and I had a glass of Predator Zinfandel wine which was really delicious and my gf had a Trumer draft beer. The sandwich was delicious and fries was real good as well. We both decided to look over the dessert menu I originally wanted the cheesecake, but they were out of the cheesecake so I decided on the next best thing which was a carrot cake. I ordered the carrot cake to go. When I got home I decided to have a few bites. I was looking forward to eating something yummy. The carrot cake was very dry I was so disappointed. For $11 it should of been moist and delicious. Unfortunately not sure if I will be going back and if you like carrot cake definitely do not get it!

The ambiance was warm and inviting, the food was exceptional, and the service was top-notch. Every server we interacted with was friendly and attentive, but the bartender, Lena, truly stole the show. She treated us like family, making us feel welcome and valued. Her warmth and hospitality were the icing on the cake. Norman's Rose Tavern is lucky to have her on their team - she's the bow on a perfectly wrapped present! We can't wait to come back and experience it all again. Food was ok. But we got interrupted by our server (tall guy) in between eating to move our dog and the stroller to make space for the table next to us which hasn't been seated even until we left. My husband ended up not finishing his food. Tip was included already in our bill since we were a big party so I felt like he didn't care about how good his service to us was.

After reading the good reviews, my husband and I decided to come for dinner early on a Friday night. The ambience is not bad and there's lots of windows and the people were certainly friendly enough. However, this is where they fell short: They didn't have any bread They didn't have any cocktail sauce for the calamari and it was such an incredibly small portion and the vegetables included with it were very thin and greasy. They didn't have any half-and-half for the coffee and everything was luke warm, including the coffee. For the price I thought it was not worth it. Definitely not a four star!

A rediscovered great spot! Still hungry from trying appetizers at the last place' looking for something a little bit more substantial, some protein. Very casual spot, comfortable, relaxing. We really enjoyed everything . Sliders with a unique taste, and avocado spread. Great Hot wings! And a local trumer Pilsner' Very nice.

A very classic tavern with good quality food, tasty beverage options, and TVs for when you want to watch that big game! Aesthetic - 7/10 Not too much to brag about but hey, its a tavern! No frills but no problem! Staff - 9/10 Our server was super helpful, provided us with personal insight on the menu, and was so pleasant! My order: Bottomless mimosas - A little pricey, but then again, I'm sure many others can drink enough to make it worthwhile! Regardless, it was delicious! French Dip - A classic and they do not disappoint! Green Goddess Salad - It was good, not the best I've had. There seemed to be something missing from the dressing but I can't quite put my finger on it. Fries - Crispy, thin, and perfect. The reason this spot gets 4 out of 5 stars for me is that the prices were higher than expected for a tavern but it is downtown Napa. Regardless, will likely come back and probably during happy hour!

Cute and nicely decorated at central location. Service was decent. Ordered a burger and chicken sandwich. Both had decent flavor but the bread was too soggy and did not hold up well. Sides such as fries do not come with the meal. Overall a decent place but a little disappointed with the food.

We were so hungry we stepped inside Norman Rose Tavern mainly because we got a tip that it was open past 2 o'clock as most of the restaurants in downtown Napa close for a short period of time so it's very difficult to find food... This place was open and busy.. The food was so delicious we had the brussels sprouts and roots as well as the delicious cheeseburger with avocado... Our friends enjoyed the beef chili which they are famous for and it was delicious.. they have an assortment of different beers IPAs and wines... our waiter Zack, was so attentive, Sharp in his service and so incredibly friendly.... If you have a chance in downtown Napa to visit Norman Rose Tavern you really should it's a treat just good comfort food... yum!

Friday night and it was pouring outside.... we saw the lighting and the beautiful soft golden booths and it was like an invitation to go in. The place was pretty packed and we got so lucky that we got a booth by the window without waiting. None of us had been there before, so we didn't really know what to expect. Maddie provided stellar service throughout the night. She was so personable and made us not regret our choice of going in to eat dinner here at all. I got the NRT Premium Burger with pepper jack cheese, well done. It was hands down one of the best burgers that I have tasted. The meat was so fresh, superior tasting really and the flavor was perfect. The hamburger bun was buttery in the perfect way. I savored each and every bite. We were having such an enjoyable experience that we closed out the night and we were the last ones to leave. Oops! It is an ode to good friends, good food in a good place.

We went here after the Christmas parade and this place has definitely gone downhill. My family has eaten here for over 10 years and this was always a top restaurant choice for us. The service was terrible and the food choices/quality have definitely decreased. It's sad what this place has become since it's always been one of our favorite restaurants!

Thank goodness for Bobby, the hostess and good food. The service was terrible. 15 minutes and nobody came to our table. Dillon, who ultimately kind of took care of us, walked past us several times even though he was serving the table next to us. The two other servers that were working the other tables next to us also avoided eye contact, a greeting, etc. the young lady that dropped off waters said not a word. Handed us glasses, dropped off the water bottle and walked off. Unsure what we did other than come in after a great day for a nice dinner and some drinks. Finally, after 15 minutes, a very charismatic person came over and helped us get a drink order and appetizers in. Dillon came over later and took our orders for dinner. Once delivered, we asked for some additional condiments, a knife and some pepper. Seven minutes went by. I just started eating my food as he wasn't coming back and we all were really hungry. After dinner was over, Dillon asked me if there was anything else. We said no. He then went to the kitchen bar and proceeded to talk to a couple sitting there for another ten minutes. Looked like a great conversation. My wife thought that maybe they were his parents. Eventually, Dillon came back to the table w the bill that has the QR code for checkout. He placed it on the table, said nothing and walked back to the couple to continue his conversation. We paid and left. If I wouldn't have felt terribly guilty for leaving without tipping for the first time in 50 years, I would have. The pompousness we witnessed by nearly the entire staff was thick. Sorry we interrupted whatever y'all had going on. Again, Bobby was great, the hostess helpful and the one lady that brought the second round for my Mom and wife, very pleasant. The rest need to go to hospitality training. Good food.

Stopped by for the first time yesterday and the food and service were great. We were greeted immediately at the front, told we could pick whichever table and shortly after our server arrived. I just happened to be there at happy hour and they had some nice specials going on. I ordered the Pepper Jack cheese sliders w/out the avocado relish and Truffle Parmesan fries. I was definitely pleased with my choice. The flavors were perfect. Extras: * There's surrounding street parking or you can park in the nearby parking garage and walk to your location. * There's a full bar inside the restaurant * Restrooms were clean I definitely would recommend stopping by this location and trying them out! { Ig: Oohdearfoodie }

I came in town for a couple of hours and came across this place so glad I did. Alana was amazing and very informative. It's a nice chill vibe here. I ordered the chicken sandwich and the fish and chip.. so good. The fried food was lightly fried. The sweet potato fries were really good. The truffle parmesean was good as well great lightly flavored. To drink I ordered a violent lemon drop which was good but only if you like violet.

Absolutely fantastic!!! I had an appointment across the street at a jewelry store. I was hungry and decided to pop in for lunch. The menu was great, and the cocktails were delicious! I had the goat cheese and spinach dip, a lamb burger, and parmesan truffle fries. The food was amazing. I also had a paper plane cocktail. The paper plane was so good I wanted like 14 more, but I was driving. The service was the BEST! They knew when to check on you, and when to leave you alone. The ambiance was casual, but very nice. I was dressed in sweats and a sweater, but didn't feel out of place for lunch. I will absolutely be going here again.

On vacation at Napa, stopped at Norman Rose for a late lunch, and it did not disappoint. Me and my son got the fish and chips which was beer battered cod and it was amazing! My wife got the lamb burger and crushed it, said it was fantastic as well! Come try when in Napa!

I went here yesterday with some friends and was greeted by Bobby. We had a reservation for four and were sat at a small round table near the front. The service was impeccable and the food was even better! I can't wait to go back. Pro tip: order the short ribs.

The food was amazing! We came after around of disc golf super hungry and we ordered several dishes to share. They offered half glasses of wine which was nice too. The Apple Crumble was superb.

We were a last minute big group and they accommodated us with no problem. Food was excellent and the service was definitely 5-star. Our waitress was attentive, super friendly and on top of refills, Definitely recommend this spot.

We had family lunch with my 1 year old son and it was such a pleasant experience! Food was delicious, very high quality and very fresh! All the staff were very welcoming and friendly and we got special attention since we were with a toddler! We enjoyed the atmosphere: lots of light (floor windows, corner restaurant), nice people watching, pleasant music, TVs with right channels for my husband and really good beer! We will definitely come back!

Food was not on par as it used to be. They don't have duck fat fries anymore. And they did away with their local Rancho Gordo bean burger. Presentation was subpar given the costs of our date night. Not retuning unfortunately.

Service was ok. Food not what it use to be. We had a burger the bread was so dry. We also ordered the French dip and we couldn't bite through parts of the meat. No Mayo or Regular mustard either ??? Only Dijon and spicy Mayo. Made no sense for a burger. For Napa prices this is not what it once was.

Great little tavern with delicious bar food. The atmosphere was pleasant and service was polite and efficient. Our compliments to Ingrid. The burger is one of the best I've had lately, served on a brioche bun with cheddar. The fries were crisp and rivaled the best McDonalds fries. The artichoke was just OK. The flavor and cookery was good but we were served a small mealy artichoke so it was really difficult getting tasty bites. The dipping sauce was awesome. Hot Tip request the artichoke dipping sauce for the fries. OMG. So good!

Went here for a drink. It was a nice full bar and we had a helpful bartender. The drink I ordered was called Aviation. It was interesting and kind of perfume tasting, due to the creme de violette. The brandy cherries were amazing! Where can I find these? The place had a nice atmosphere with 2 TVs by the bar. Interesting enough, a cornhole competition was on when we were there. The bathrooms are in back and are decent, but they did need a little more attention than what was given. Otherwise, everything seemed pretty great. The food looked good but we didn't try any.

This place has fantastic customer service, with very friendly and helpful staff. Called on the phone and they were super super accomodating.
