Coronavirus: the Best Ottawa Restaurants for Take-Out and Delivery | Eater Montreal

"This fantastic Centretown Italian resto has a simple yet refined take-out menu of soups, salads, and pasta (made in-house, of course), plus wine to-go, and family meal packs suitable for four to six people. Delivery available on request: it’s best to call them." - Tim Forster

Google
I would give this 3.5 stars. The restaurant is super cute, our server was fun and lively, but the food fell flat a lot of the time. Portions felt extra small, and the empty tortellini was crazy. Still good, but wouldn’t return.

Out of the park from beginning to end. Stefan was awesome and made sure everything was explained and great suggestions. The food was superb. Every bite was fantastic. We ate family style, which I encourage so you can try more dishes. Hats off to the owners, chef and all the staff.

North & Navy A beautifully decored Italian fine cuisine in the heart of Ottawa. A highly recommended experience, great wine options, a unique menu that will meet all food preference and lastly highly educated staff that make the whole evening perfect. I would recommend this Gem in Ottawa. We will certainly be back! Cheers.

Google
Great place ! A must visit in Ottawa! Fine dining, classy and elegant but with a bit more of a casual atmosphere! Very talented bartender and knowledgeable sommelier. Gabi the wine director and GM is incredibly welcoming and will be definitely able to steer you in the right direction when it comes to pick the wine to pair with your dish! She also knows the city very well don’t hesitate to ask her where to go next! Very few ppl seem to enjoy their job as much as Gabi does! If you go to Ottawa you need to visit North & Navy

We did the blind tasting menu and wine pairings. Everything we were served was excellent; it was amazing how the wine pairings really enhanced the flavours.

Came recommended by a few people, visiting from Hamilton. Menu seemed a bit confusing before we came in, but we were explained everything and even accommodated as we were looking for pescatarian. Everything was really good. Unique, the Culurgiones were certainly a stand out pasta. Drinks were all great. Honestly even with how good it was, my favorite thing was the Amaro flight. Just the icing on the Zeppola.

I recently dined at North and Navy with my mother and a close friend, and as always, it was a nice experience. We ordered several dishes to sample as much of the menu as possible. As usual, the portions were perfect for sharing. The food was beautifully presented, fresh, honest, and tasty. • The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant is something I truly enjoy, especially the charming decor with its mismatched porcelain plates. • However, this time, our experience was slightly marred by the booth we were seated in. It was quite cold, very dark, and unfortunately, the table beside us was so loud that it made it difficult to have a conversation without raising our voices. • Despite these minor setbacks, the service was outstanding, the food was delicious, and the overall atmosphere was lovely. • We appreciate that their menu changes on a monthly basis, which keeps things exciting. North and Navy remains a favorite, and we will gladly return in the future.

Google
With price, I would rate as 3 stars. Each dish was small portion so we had to order at least 2 dishes and it made 80-100per person. Cocktail were soso..none of dish were interesting🧐except lamb pasta. They played really safe but that is it. With price? There is better pine dining restaurant in Ottawa so I would not go again..

Yelp
Kicking off my new year new badge with a banger! This was an amazing experience. Three course meal. Food was not only delicious but the presentation was on point. Atmosphere was cozy and intimate. While we didn't know what the Italian meant our server was very nice and walked us through the whole menu! 100% would do this again!

Yelp
North and Navy is located in what seems to be an old house that gives the interior a cool, mature vibe. The prices are a bit in the high side, but the food is fresh, tasty, and unique. We were there a little bit later after the main dinner rush, so the wait staff let us change our seating, we also had a reservation. The waitress gave us some great suggestions and helped us out narrow down our food selection. The carpaccio was delicious and beautifully presented, it was almost a shame to eat it. And the tortellini was probably the best I've had, the combination of the sauce, pasta cooked a perfect al dente, and meatballs made for a memorable eating experience.

Yelp
SORRY FOR THE BAD PHOTO the whole restaurant is pretty dimly lit so it's hard to get a good photo. ANYWAYS the agnolotti was really good! the pasta was a really good thickness, the filling was perfectly sweet. I wish they had roasted the walnuts and maybe candied them before plating but alas it was still good. service is VERY detail oriented and involved in your meal which can be a pro or con depending on what kind of diner you are. if you have a bit of room in your budget and are looking for a nice dinner I'd highly recommend!! (disclaimer: found this review in my drafts, I had forgotten to post it! so it's a month old )

Yelp
Gorgeous cozy place in downtown Ottawa. I went on my own twice in two weeks and the bartender at the back bar took great care of me both visits. Come early enough and order a couple things to try from the cinq a cept happy hour menu. Beautifully executed contemporary Italian options

Yelp
Dec 2023 review: still amazing in every way, no critiques at all!! Everyone should go to north and navy if they get the chance

Yelp
Food was awful. I've been to Italy. This is not Italian food by any stretch of the imagination how this place gets five star reviews I'll never now.

Yelp
Well priced northern Italian; having come from Toronto though, I was a bit disappointed that this spot is considered one of the best fine dining Italian places in the city. The pasta was good, but not outstanding; ours was undercooked. Oysters were quite good, but that should be credited to their fresh sourcing of goods. The cocktail was quite good as well, but service was less attentive than I would have liked. The terrine was also quite salty. Ambience is cute for date night though!

Yelp
Not sure if I've been spoiled by Toronto, but I was really looking forward to enjoying North & Navy, particularly with so many great reviews and being recommended by a friend. It definitely fell quite short of my expectations. Location: nicely located just outside the Ottawa downtown core with lots of street parking available, free on weekends and after 530pm on weekdays. Ambience: great ambience with a good level of music and the room dimly lit by Edison bulbs. Service: not the greatest. They were welcoming, but they may have been shorthanded. The concierge ended up clearing plates which was odd to see. A simple beer and Negroni took 15 minutes to get to our table. Our server disappeared quite often and seemed stretched thin. Every server was running around to either cover other servers or tend to their own customers. When servers are stressed, it impacts the enjoyment that diners have. Hire more servers or take less reservations. Food: decently enjoyable. The Vitello Tonnato (a mosaic of tuna and veal in carpaccio form) was quite good, but was definitely a small portion size. More of an appetizer for 1 person with a light appetite. Butternut Squash Mezzaluna I enjoyed as the mezzaluna (a dumpling-type pasta) was cooked perfectly and the filling was a good flavour and texture. It wasn't filled with unique flavours but rather a pretty safe dish. Mushroom Quadri & Smoked Leek Butter was ok, I personally found it to be both too lemony and too salty. I enjoyed the amount of mushrooms in the dish though. Wife enjoyed it. We finished the meal with a Tirimisu. The server had described it as a traditional square Tirimisu, and to our surprise, an alternate version came out that was their domed version with cream dolloped on top. It was ok...there wasn't much espresso flavour and the cream wasn't the richness of what you'd expect from mascarpone... would probably recommend avoiding this, the domed version at least. Overall, not bad, but not great. Ottawa has some pretty limited options, so to each their own.

Yelp
Good ambience, the restaurant is made of an old house but it's so comfy and homey. Our server, Sebastian was great. He recommended a great red wine. He explained every single menu (since we have no clue of the Italian word menu). He works there for 5 years. We hardly eat fine Italian dining like this but my husband insisted of going there as he tried it before. Boy, it's really an exquisite dining experience and a must try if you visit Ottawa (reservation is a must!) Our reservation was at 9:15 pm but it didn't feel long until 11:30 pm. We started with bread & butter (I wished the bread is warm). The butter is very unique combination of lemon & thyme. It's a great combination!! Their butter's flavoured is changed regularly. We even asked for 2nd round bread to enjoy the butter more. For antipasti - we ordered Polpette (meat balls), our daughter loved it so much. The tomato sauce is so fresh! We also ordered the charred eggplant & yoghurt. It's delicious! The eggplant was crispy to cut. For main entrée, I ordered Butternut squash Mezzaluna (sweet, light sauce and crispy of nuts & sage). It's melted in your mouth. So velvety feeling. Usually I'm not too crazy with butternut squash pasta but here they made it so delicacy. My husband and daughter ordered Bigoli & salsa - homemade thick round pasta with great white sauce. They enjoyed it so much. There's a taste of light butter, lemon, onion, cream wine reduction. For the dessert - we each ordered ice cream (flower flavour), tiramisu and torta di Nocciole. The last one is highly recommended. A bit sweet but great taste of hazelnut! Overall, it was a great dining experience- very fine food, good service and their chinaware were all from Italy! What a great way to conclude our last night in Ottawa before travelling back home to Vancouver.

Yelp
What beautiful and amazing food! Located in an old house a small intimate northern Italian restaurant in the heart of Ottawa. Our waiter was incredible and so helped us with understanding the menu and his recommendations. We started with a lovely salad with house made ricotta cheese and pickled mushrooms. Next we had duck prosciutto with white asparagus and balsamic vinegar. Followed by Vitella tunato which was paper thin see through mosaic of raw tuna and veal which was absolutely gorgeous and amazing! I can't begin to imagine how it is made! Then we had a pasta dish of shoe shaped pasta stuffed with blue cheese with pickled rhubarb. Followed by small pasta with pesto and a soft cooked egg. Then deboned quail with pomegranate. Next was a great steak with chimichurri sauce and thin beets. Dessert was affogato with house made gelato and Tirimisu. A wonderful meal. Highly recommend

Yelp
North and Navy is such a cute little spot. It used to be a house so the layout is really cute. Plus, the dim lights with candles, the layout and furniture, everything just creates such a cozy unique vibe. It would definitely be a nice date spot. I made a reservation for Thursday night at 6:00pm, and good thing I did because it was busy! Because the place is quite small, I would definitely recommend booking ahead. The server we had was so nice and friendly. She explained that everything they could make in house, they do - from yogurt to pasta, they really do it all! We got the Vitello Tonnato ($26) to start, which the server described as raw Veal and Tuna that is put together and rolled up in leek ash, and creates a beautiful stain glass effect. I'm sure she explained more and better but I can't remember the details! Who thought Veal and Tuna was a good mix, but it was really delicious and beautiful too. I ordered the Duck Bolognese with a 24 degree egg. You break the egg and mix the gooey yolk into the fresh pasta. It was delicious! The fresh pasta really has a different texture which was really enjoyable and it was cooked perfectly al dente. My friend got the special, which was Risotto with Truffles ($65) on top. This was real slices of truffles! Not some artificial truffle oil or something. It was so pretty with truffles and gold flakes on top. Plus, she had actually ordered a different risotto and they made a mistake giving her the truffle risotto. So, they gave her the meal completely free of charge. The service is really superb. Of course we left them a generous tip accordingly. I would definitely be back to try more of the menu, which seems to always be updated with new items.

Yelp
Great staff and delicious food. My dinner mate said it was the best pasta they have ever eaten. Lovely selection of drinks and cocktails and staff were excellent at making recommendations. The only downside is the limited dining menu. The drink menu is much more extensive than the food or dessert options. The portions are on the smaller end. The price point is for sure pricy for what you get, for example $12 for 3 meat balls as an appetizer. That being said the dishes are well seasoned with top quality ingredients and have flavor profiles that are well worth it. More of a spot youd go for a nice date night, not an everyday weeknight spot

Yelp
I had a disappointing experience at north&navy. The food was unappetizing and poorly prepared, and the service was rude and unprofessional. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a pleasant dining experience.

Yelp
Seating: alone - work trip; life's too short for a shawarma. Sat at bar. Took a little while to get a negroni but it didn't really matter. I was shortly served one of the best pastas of my life. Celery root triangoli. Deceptively simple description. It was the perfect balance of richness and acidity, with great texture in the popped buckwheat, and a smoothness in the filling that distinguished it from other ravioli. Apparently one of the sous chefs recently came up with it and the dish impressed the head chef, shortly before it being put on the menu full-time. The olive-oil poached swordfish was similarly delicious. Finished with a flight of amari. There is a god.

Yelp
I was in Ottawa on a work trip and this spot was recommended by my colleague's foodie wife. I was very impressed with every dish we had. The server highly recommended sharing dishes and having at least 2 dishes per person. We started with the charred eggplant and yogurt which the server had said was on the salty side but it was perfectly balanced with the yogurt. Incredible presentation and flavour. I also tried some of my colleague's gnocchi and the other one ordered the cauliflower Gorgonzola (which was the other dish I was eyeing), both akso delicious! I wound up choosing the smoked tuna anolini which was incredibly flavourful and left me wanting more! The restaurant was on the pricier side so I would recommend for a special occasion or sharing dishes. Ambiance and service was also top notch. I'm already looking forward to returning next time I'm in Ottawa.

Yelp
I used to live in Ottawa and this was one of my favourite restaurants. I am sure they still spin out delicious meals. My review is regretfully about the $200 steak. The most expensive item on the menu. To make it short, we arrived at 9:30 and probably the last piece of steak was picked out for us. It arrived quite promptly for a 42 ounce steak while such a large steak takes 30-40 mins to cook. Upon arrival, it looked fine at first glance but upon tasting it, my Pirelli tyres would be less chewy and definitely tastier. The steak had a mummified texture. Grey. Hard. Touch. Chewy. Absolutely void of flavour. The shift manager suggested that is how the steak was meant to be and "it was cooked in butter"... the tragedy is that you can't use butter to add much flavour to shoe leather. The potatoes that came with the steak look regurgitated and the cauliflower was probably the leftover crumbs they collected all day. As per photos. Waste of a night.

Yelp
Tried this many years ago after it switched from Ritz in Nepean. Food was fine but felt like the very pink sauce on the octopus was meant as a joke. I didn't laugh. Maybe over the years it took this off the menu and I might like the restaurant.

Yelp
A few weeks ago my wife and I attended a wine tasting dinner. We had great expectations since NoNa had recently been added to the list of Canada's top 100 restaurants. Our group was hosted in their comfortable upstairs room. The server assigned to our group of around 20 was very good, but she was by herself. The meal, however, was pedestrian, at best. The polpette were tasty, but could have used a bit of basil to brighten the plate. The next dish was another meat-ball dish with pasta, tortellini vuoti. The dish may have been decent, but the kitchen didn't produce it fast enough for our server to deliver it to everyone at the same time. (For the first dish the server had reinforcements, but for this second dish she was on her own.) She served one side of the table and then there was a 5 minute wait before the kitchen had prepared the rest of the dishes and she was able to bring the dishes up for those on the other side of the table. By the time everyone had been served we had a cooled-down plate of pasty pasta and not very interesting, small meat-balls. The dessert was ok, but so unmemorable I can't recall what it was. Overall, not at all what I'd expect from one of the top kitchens in Canada. I was left with the sense that other than our very pleasant and helpful server the restaurant could have cared less that it had our group in house. The experience has made me question whether I will be back. We have a group of 10-17 friends that get together every Friday for dinner and have been to NoNa several times in the past. It will be a while before I consider recommending it or venturing to try it. I'll need to see consistent reports of superior food to go along with the service.

Yelp
It was very good, but one of the best in Canada?? I can think of a few better places in Ottawa alone.

Yelp
terrible service: waitress was not happy that 2 out of four were non drinkers.....online rsvp- their request for information, included note that it was a birthday, but again, server was outright angry and wouldn't bring out even a cupcake...it was just "no"
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
Tucked away in a semi-residential area, cozy ambiance, exotic menu (for Ottawa), great service, great bar.

D B.

Yelp
While not top-tier, service and food quality was entirely satisfactory. Would have liked to have given 4 stars. However, accessibility to the restaurant itself and to washrooms (upstairs only) may be a deal-breaker for some. One particular hazard does exist. The floor on the 2nd level has a one step-down configuration which is NOT indicated and, furthermore, is dimly lit. To (the) regular patrons, this is likely not an issue. However, when having recently celebrated a family member's milestone birthday, taking a sudden tumble, onto all fours no less, was - for your scribe being of a certain vintage - not only embarrassing but also painful. Not a word was mentioned so as to not dampen the festivities. One outcome, however unfortunate, was that subsequent visits will not be considered.

Yelp
So far, NoNa has topped our list of restaurants in Ottawa! The atmosphere, the service and the food were all top quality. My only complaint was that service was very fast, maybe because we came around the holidays, but it did feel very rushed. I will be dreaming about this meal for a long time and will definitely be back!

Yelp
My birthday dinner!!! We had a little private room off to the side - which was lovely - and our server was excellent and sweet. Several very expensive cocktails later, the food rolled in. An Italian Charcuterie plate (Cicheti) was so and so. Lovely meatball and the salt cod was delicious. The other items were mediocre (bacon wrapped something or other) and a mild cheese. The trout pasta primi was delicious. Immensely flavourful and complex. Very small portion but truly divine The Venetian liver and onions was very very rich but beautifully cooked. Loved the button mushrooms. They brought me a slice of tiramisu on the house and it was also excellent. Although I didn't have to pay for the meal, my sphincter tightened when I saw the bill. I would definitely return - but the price is certainly a downer.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this restaurant more than I did. Set in the former house of Beckta, the decor is lovely, and the house historic. Unfortunately that does come with some very chilly spots during the cold winter months (especially near the door), but most of the restaurant is very comfortable. The service was very, very good. I can't criticize the wait staff and Maitre-D. They tried very hard, and were very kind. I simply didn't love the food, and that's probably personal taste. Firstly, it was difficult to choose from the menu. The menu has the name of the dish, but it's impossible to tell what's in the dish, since most of it is in Italian without subtext beneath it. This required detailed explanation in the form of a long speech by the (very patient) waitress. The food itself wasn't to my taste. The appetizers I had weren't bad: the Corzetti with Walnuts & Honey was nice, and we shared the Cichèti Plate, some of which was pretty good (while others were just okay). I was very disappointed by my main dish, the Venetian Liver and Onions. I think I probably anticipated chopped liver. This was the full liver, and I felt it was chewy and a bit tough. The Nutella Marquise dessert was very nice, but again, I was underwhelmed. One final annoyance was the noise level in the restaurant. Beckta was always quiet and classy. For some reason North and Navy was very loud. We had a couple join another couple next to us. They crunched into a 2-person seating area, and were very loud, disrupting our peaceful meal. I'm not sure what can be done about that, but I wish the wait-staff had asked the other couple to keep it down, or move the party of 4 to a new table. I'm glad I tried North and Navy, but can't say that I recommend it.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were in Ottawa for a few days and decided to go to this resteraunt based on the yelp reviews and photo's. It did not disappoint. We made a reservation and we're glad we did cause the place filled up. The ambience is very nice for a date night, dim lighting with a candle on the table. Our server was very nice and knowlegable about all the food on the menu. She also helped us choose a red wine to go with our meal. Red Wine (forgot the name of the wine) 2 glasses $24 Primi: Tagliatelle ai fungi $17 We had to get one of their house made pastas to share and wow it was very good. We thought it would be very basic with mushrooms. But the flavours were actually complex and the pasta was cooked al dente. Secondi: Anatra (Duck) e Zucca $38 I had the duck entree and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. I never had duck cooked this way and it was very nicely flavoured. Veal Saltimbocca $42 My boyfriend had this dish and he loved it. Also cooked to a perfect medium rare, very juicy and tender. We would definitely come back, if we are in the Ottawa area. A exceptional resteraunt with good food and service. Forgot to take pictures of our entrees :(

Yelp
The best pasta I have ever had. The lemon tart wasn't bad either. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly service, fresh, vibrant food that was well balanced, and a great ambiance. I cannot get over how intense the flavours of everything I had were. If I had the budget that would allow it, I'd be here every week. I will definitely make a return, soon I hope. 5/5

Yelp
I came here a few months ago while I was in Ottawa for Canada Day weekend. We came in a few days ahead of the festivities and also visiting my sister in law. We decided to go out for some fine dining at North and Navy - i used my DINR app and got a table at this restaurant for dinner :) They had an option of sitting at the chef's table, where you get to look into the kitchen and see how they prepare their food. Since I am a cook myself, I had to go with this option even though there were dining tables available :) The restaurant is on a quiet side street with houses around. IN fact, the restaurant is actually inside one of these houses. Very quaint and cute. We decided to order a variety of items on their menu to try their food. Being a fine dining restaurant, of course their menu is actually not very long, there's not a ton of choices, but you know that each dish is excecuted well because it's a small selection. Here are my experiences of the dishes we got: Appetizers: Smoked tuna with braised beef tongue - i normally don't like beef tongue, but this dish... I can lick the plate. The flavours of the smoked tuna go AMAZING well with the beef tongue, and the textures are very lovely with the two. Polpette (beef, chicken and veal meatballs) - the appetizer comes with 3 - perfect since each of us got one meatball. Meat is well seasoned, and the tomato sauce goes very nicely together with the meatball! Fried squid - i love squid, so of course who woudln't order calamari?? The dish comes with some mandarin oranges and lemon, giving it a lovely tangy taste to the calamari. The batter is light and crisp - yum. Primi: Carrot risotto - very delicious, the risotto was very nicely done, personally I wasn't as huge of a fan because of the other choices I had... so if i had to choose, I prefered the other Primi's we ordered over this one. Mushroom Farfelle - I LOVE mushrooms... so needless to say my choice/preference is a bit biased as a result - however this dish is addictive - the flavours are fantastic! the mushroom profile is quite forward, the pasta is nicely cooked al dente, and the cherry tomatoes give it a bit of extra pop - i love the way they burst inside my mouth! The sauce is also very heavy mushroom flavour - mushroom lovers I would definitely recommend trying this dish!! Walnut and Ricotta Secchetini - if you want stuffed pasta, this is the one. the presentation was beautiful - which as we all know is part of the dining experience. I love the puree at the bottom! it goes amazing well together with the pasta, and all the various garnishes work well together to enhance the flavour of the secchetini. The pasta is nice and thin, beautifully cooked and the filling is well contained. Secondi: Cod Ling with mushrooms and broth - again ppl who love mushrooms would like this. The cod ling is beautifully cooked. Perfect texture - it's my first time having this fish, but I was blown away by the texture! It's buttery, almost kind of melts in your mouth, but at the same time, the fish itself as a bit of a spring texture to it. Anyway, I love fish in general, and I was not disappointed in this fish! I didn't care for the broth it came in too much tho - but the sides it came with along with the edible flower worked well with the fish - balanced out the taste. Duck with chestnut/celery root puree with pomegranate seeds and glaze - Very different flavour profile from fish since duck is a much richer protein. the duck is cooked perfect medium rare - sometimes with duck it's tricky coz it can be very chewy, but this duck was cooked amazingly soft and tended - the purees provided a bit of a nutty flavour which I love... and the pomegrante seeds give it a bit of a tangy pop with the meat.. almost like when we put cranberry with meat to achieve that kind of flavour. LOVED every bite of this dish - and yes, i scraped the plate clean lol- including all the lovely microgreens that came with the dish - nice crisp texture to balance with the rest of the dish. Dessert: Tiramisu - we only ordered one, because by this point, we were quite stuffed.. this almost feels like a tasting menu since we tried so many different dishes at this point. Since it is a Northern Italian restaurant, the tiramisu was a nice finish to the end of a very delicious meal. the ladyfingers used is nicely soaked and tender, but not to the point where it's so mushy it's going to fall apart. One of the best tiramisus I've had in a while... paired with an americano.. this was the perfect end of an amazing meal. I woudl've enjoyed the dessert more if I wasn't so stuffed from all the other courses! Every bite I have tried at this meal was packed with flavours. Presentation is beautiful on each of their plates. The only dish I was a bit disappointed was the carrot risotto.. but then again, the other two options for primi were just THAT delicious. Overall I was very pleased with their menu, and I had a great experience watching the chefs cook and prep!

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this restaurant for the longest time, and booked a dinner for a weekday night. Two words: exceeds expectations! I was a bit apprehensive, as reviews either indicated it was outstanding, or that service was lackluster...but I didn't have to worry! Warning: the below is like an essay, but I really had to express my enjoyment with this many words! ;P First off, when you walk inside, the atmosphere is very calming with dim lighting, and a mix of modern and traditional décor. Just for you guys, I requested a window seat to get better Instagram photos! ;) Most seats are not next to a window. Chairs are squishy and comfy (clever way to get you to stay longer)! Cutlery was real silver, which added to the dining experience (they look used and old but they are not)! I had a male server who had blue eyes and blond hair, and he was very professional and checked up on us frequently, and also SMILED (which not all servers do)! Some reviews mentioned that they should switch plates/cutlery between appetizers and mains, which was done, so I suppose they listened to reviews. I LOVE THEIR PLATES! They are all unique and gorgeous and honestly DO add to the dining experience! Drinks - Nepean street: this was DELICIOUS! My favourite out of the two. Another table ordered 4 at once, so you KNOW it is good stuff. I could just keep drinking this...it was a deep lovely amber color. I only wish they put less ice in the cup, but it still tasted strong! Drinks - Rosa Rossa: this was the prettier drink of the two (and honestly, I only chose it because it had Dillon's rose gin in it), but it tasted mostly like grapefruit. I really enjoyed the foam on top, but volume wise, it was about half of the Nepean street, so the other drink was better deal. Bread: it was not warm, but nice and crusty. It came with anchovy infused butter. PLEASE give out more butter! They should of doubled it. Hint: keep asking for more bread because bread + butter + sauces in your food dishes = YUM! J If North and Navy ever had a late night menu with drink specials, I would drink the Nepean street non-stop...thinking about it makes me drool! Antipasti - smoked tuna with balsamic and braised beef: If I had to choose one dish to eat for the rest of my life, it would be this. Although reviews mentioned the tuna part tastes like canned tuna (it does slightly), the overall mix of flavours is PERFECT. The braised beef is in fact, beef tongue, that they slice using a DELI slicer so it is SUPER thin and tender! The olive oil is very dark and rich, and there is also crispy bits on top. Each bite is a symphony of salty, slightly sweet, slightly sour, crispy, and soft...I wish I didn't order the fried squid and got two of these. They are THAT good. I hope they never stop making it! Antipasti - Fried Humboldt squid and lemon aioli: my colleague preferred this dish over the smoked tuna, and we saw other tables order it as well. I liked how there was citrus and basil leaves, which added more flavour. It was also very tender. However, the flavour in general was too light for my tastes, and I ended up eating most of the tuna and beef appetizer instead. Primi - Walnut and ricotta sacchettini with pea crema: this was recommended by our waiter as one of his favourite dishes here. The pasta came in little tied sachets which were ADORABLE! You could taste that the pasta was homemade, and the filling was cheesy tasting even though it was just ricotta. I really do not like dill under most circumstances unless it is dill pickle chips LOL (which is usually served with salmon), but the dill was not infused in the sauce itself so I just picked it off. Secondi - Venetian liver and onions: many reviews mentioned the liver, so I had to get it (even though the waiter said the cod was his favourite...but my colleague wanted to get the duck...boohoo...next time I will get the cod)! There was A LOT of rich brown sauce with it to dip the liver in, and it was tender and slightly charred. The sliced potatoes and onions it came with perfectly complimented it. Secondi - Duck with salsa di melograno e zanzero: Served rare but crispy on the outside, the duck breast was outstanding and I was wishing so badly for more pieces! The puree of veggies that it sat on was also amazing (my colleague and I even fought over it...bread dipped into it is perfect)! Each bite was heaven. Definitely my preferred main!!! One plesant surprise was the washrooms! In the ladies washroom, there is dark rose wallpaper, white tiles, closed wall washrooms, and my favourite was seeing Dillon's Rose Gin bottles turned into soap bottle dispensers (how unique)! Overall, it was a meal that exceeded my expectations. Although pricy, the price is justified for the quality of food you get, comfortable atmosphere, amazing drinks, and friendly service!

Yelp
The ambience was great here. The waiter was super nice and attentive. The food was good, the lamb was great. The portions were relatively small but standard for upscale restaurants. The burrata was okay, I've had better. The tiramisu was very very good though. All around a good experience

Yelp
A completely unique dining experience. Most of the items on the menu are unique to North & Navy. Everything was full of flavor and unlike anything we previously tasted. It was all so good and enjoyable. In addition to appetizers and mains, the bread is outstanding and a meal by itself. We went celebrating our wedding anniversary and definitely felt like it was a true celebration with a very special meal. Service provided by Shameen and Dan was exceptional. They both provided a very warm and welcoming experience to an overall extraordinary experience.

Yelp
Some of the most delicious freshly made pasta, bursting with amazing flavours and textures! We got the spaghetti and the maltagliati - both amazing! We also got the cichèti plate, which is an assortment of yummy appetizers!

Yelp
One of my biggest complaint was this restaurant does not have ramps or accessible entryways to accommodate for customers who have wheelchair or strollers. When we arrived, the host was great, however this is where is went downhill, our server and the kitchen was extremely slow and took over an hour to get our appetizer and then another hour for our 2nd course, at this point we decided to order our dessert to go. Our server was seldomly accessible, as he was busy chatting with one particular table for most of the evening. Unfortunately, the food was nothing spectacular, for what we paid for our meals, I would have expected dishes that would be memorable in a positive way and would make me overlook the other negatives. Another this is, this restaurant is not baby friendly, so if you have a child that's still in diapers, there's no place to change your child. I would definitely not be going back here. I give it 2 stars for our experience with the host as she was very pleasant and tried her best to assist navigating in and out of the restaurant with our stroller.

Yelp
We were looking for a nice patio (being COVID and all) on our trip to Ottawa Saturday and found this place being highly rated. Was right up our alley, super comfortable outdoor patio and incredible food and service. A++ will be back.

Yelp
Food is incredible, but it's a bit pricey for portion sizes! Would absolutely recommend the seasonal peaches and lonza, and the chamomile white fish was to die for. Very nice ambiance as well.

Yelp
A neat place, unassuming on a residential street. Staff are very attentive. Food is solid. The squid are fantastic, oranges are a great accompaniment. Pasta are handmade and worth it. The quail was a bit one-note -- honey. A little garlic would have helped here. Its menu pleased my wife somewhat less, but she's a bit pickier. Worth a visit if you like Italian modern cuisine.

Yelp
Most excellent fine dinning in Ottawa without pretentiousness of some other fine dinning place you might have experienced. The food is excellent and of great quality. The chefs are exceptional and the ingredients are fresh and local. To celebrate a spiritual occasion or just wanting to experience something exquisite, this is the place.

Yelp
Visiting from vancouver so I'd like to think I have a solid food palate. This place is soo good! If it were in vanny I'd totally be a regular. So sat at the bar solo as Im here from work and don't know anybody in this city. The bartender served me and he is seriously a stellar staff member. Pleasant. And social but not a laugh too loud, joke too much type. Super genuine and was friendly to everybody. If he was in vancouver I'd totally offer him a job. The squid ink casunziei with Ling cod and roe. Was divine. The salted Ling cod would have been too salty by itself. But with the pasta that was perfectly al dente. . I wish I got 2 portions The fried squid was a miss. They put the aioli on it so the batter gets quite soggy. It the squid inside was nice and tender. When the server asked I casually mentioned how I wish I ordered 2 pasta dishes cuz seriously. So fken good. Cot damn! And that the calamari had gotten soggy but still good. Got 3 drinks. If you like amaro most of their 8 cocktails have amaro. Or are negronis. I enjoyed them but you have to like Italian flavours. This place feels is good. Quaint and authentic. And he was appropriately attentive for a solo Person who spent a good amount of time texting friends I got the bill and he was apologetic multiple times about the squid and had taken it off. All in all. Wish I got multiple plates of the squid ink pasta. Servers are solid. Reasonable Price point. Best part of my 3 days in Ottawa. Glad I didn't get into sansotei (which led me here), I'm sure vancouver ramen would have given it the smack down.

Yelp
We were a bit unsure about ordering an expensive meal and having it delivered. What an awesome surprise, dinner delivered to our door with a smile and the quality was as good as if we were sitting in the restaurant. Kudos to North and Navy for being able to bring this high standard to our home table. We ordered the family dinner for 2 ( don't tell anyone but it could feed 4) We would definitely do this again!

Yelp
Was looking for a tapas sort of place in Ottawa and a friend has wanted to try this place for awhile. We made reservations easily on the web and when we arrived the atmosphere of the place was neat. We were taken to a "room" it felt like we were having dinner at our grandmas. Once we were all seated our waiter came by to explain the menu. If you have taken a peak at the menu, it is a little hard to understand without googling... Haha some of us decided to share some dishes to get a taste of everything. I am going to use the "easy" names of the dishes.. But some of the dishes we ordered were the meatballs which was delish! The sauce was amazing and good to dip aome bread into. Tried some of the spaghetti with clams, a little on the salty side but they did warn us. The salmon which was perfectly cooked and tasted fresh and herby. The pea risotto was mmm cheesy goodness. But my favourite dish was the chicken leg confit pasta boi the meat just melted in your mouth. Lastly but not least, your at an Italian restaurant you got to have a slice of Tiramisu and mmm was that a perfect wnd to the night. If you have never been here you should for sure check it out. I suggest going with a group of people, this way you can try all the different dishes. Overall, mmmm I can still remember the tastes of the dishes and wish I had some for lunch instead of my sandwhich!

Yelp
Sat at the places where you can watch the kitchen action. Service was very good. Food met expectations. Cosy spot with good food, probably good for a date night. Maybe a tad pricier, but location considered, fair enough. I had the liver s as and a few bites of the meatballs apple, along with the sardines. All nicely done.

Yelp
We enjoyed a nice evening at the restaurant. We particularly liked the cocktail and the mackerel and cucumber tartare(except the breadsticks, which were too skinny to pick up the tartare). The quail was done to perfection, juicy and tender. If the pickled artichoke cin that dish can be a bit more on the sour side, it would cut through the sweet over tone better. Overall, we find the seasoning of food a bit heavy handed. Individual dishes are full flavored but after a few dishes, the salt level start to add up. When we mentioned this to the server, he promptly informed the kitchen and brought a new dish for us. we appreciated the good service.

Yelp
Loved the squid ink pasta, and the charred eggplant! It's not the cliched traditional Italian food but it's quite modern and delightful. Service was ok.

Yelp
One of the best restaurant in Ottawa, Period! The food was outstanding, i had the black ink spaghetti and the Liver and onion dish. The wine was also magnificent and the waiting staff are professional but super friendly. The only problem is it's SO EXPENSIVE! For me and my friend are bill was almost $200. I can see myself going here mabye once a year or during a super special event, anything beyond that then i risk breaking the bank. But other then that I couldn't recommend this place enough

Yelp
Big fan of North and Navy. We went here for dinner with a group of six, with 4 opting for their own thing and 2 of us doing shared plates. Considering the portions of the primi and secondi were comparable, I think sharing was definitely more value for money vs ordering individually. You get to a sample a swath of their delicious plates as well, which I much preferred, especially for a first visit. Doing the shared plates, I was able to taste the following dishes: farfalle with chicken leg confit (which is exactly what it sounds like - bowtie pasta with a light sauce and tender chicken meat); risi et bisi (rice and peas cooked à la risotto - with cheese); polpette (homemade meatballs in rich, slightly sweet tomato sauce); and tiramisu. From mooching off my partner, I also had a taste of the bigoli con le Vongole (long thick pasta with clams cooked in tomato sauce); the BC Keta salmon with cauliflower and corn; and the giuseppe luigi (their take on the zeppole). Everything was excellent, but some dishes really stood out. I quite enjoyed the farfalle; I loved how light it was without sacrificing flavour. The polpette was also up there, and our host was on point in bringing us more bread (anticipating that we ladies would want to dip and finish the sauce - right he was). My partner thought the salmon tasted bland, its taste overpowered by the cauliflower/corn side it sat on; but I personally thought it was just right. Cooked so perfectly that it would have probably melted in your mouth. They did warn us that the bigoli contained saltwater clams (so the dish would be saltier), but personally, I enjoyed the plate's distinct saltwater taste. When asked about my first impression of that plate, I believe I said "it tastes like the sea". The risi et bisi, which I thought was the richest out of all our plates, in hindsight did seem out of place with everything else we ordered, but certainly still good in its own right. Dessert-wise, my stance is definitely tiramisu over the luigi; finding the latter a bit too sweet for my taste. Cocktails are good too, if you're willing to pay a premium. Next time, though, I'll make sure to mention 'less ice'. Overall, a very pleasant meal with delicious plates, even if not everyone on the table agreed with me. Ambiance and service are easily five stars. We were seated in our own room that opened up to the bar, so it was cozy, for sure. Great place to take a date, or some friends visiting town. I know we'll be back!

Yelp
An intimate atmosphere, with excellent food. I had the eggplant with yogurt appetizer, the duck with pear entree and a tiramisu for dessert. I really enjoyed everything.

Yelp
Menu seems to change over on a frequent basis. Food was a bit expensive (was expected) but was delicious. From the outside, the restaurant looked like a house but the decor inside was very nice. I would visit again
