North by Northwest

As an Association Manager, I’ve worked with many landscapers, and North by Northwest is one of the best. They’re reliable, professional, and keep my communities looking great year-round. Their team is easy to work with, quick to respond, and always go the extra mile. Residents have noticed the difference, and we’ve received lots of positive feedback. I highly recommend them to any HOA or property manager looking for top-quality service.

I have worked with NXNW several times over the last year on various commercial and multi family projects. In my experience, they are one of the top landscapers in the state. They are reliable, knowledgeable, and solution focused. Would highly recommend.

I’ve used NXNW for the past couple of years and they have shown to be very knowledgeable in their field. Just like any vendor, they are not perfect but they do own up to their errors and make things right. They work with their customers and keep an open communication with all parties.

Working with NXNW has been a series of follies. Aside from the sloppy landscape work they did, I had also signed up for a lawn maintenance plan hoping they would rid my yard of weeds. Instead of making my lawn look nice, they sent out some inexperienced hack who literally ruined more than half of my yard with the wrong chemical mixture. This hack they sent out also managed to spray the chemicals on my pavers and side wall of my house which left lovely blue stains for weeks. Thanks for that NXNW. Fast forward to today, I have a dead patchy lawn and was forced to hire a new company to fix their mess costing me significantly more money than I wanted to spend on lawn care. Of course they wanted to fix the problems they created but after 3 weeks of no follow up from the owner I decided to part ways with them. Working with NXNW has been a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

These people are extremely incompetent and continue to kill everything they touch and do hundreds of dollars of damage to my landscaping, thousands of dollars around the nieghborhood. Unfortunately, I have to deal with them because my HOA hired them, but they are some of the most clueless incompetent landscapers I have ever witnessed. I had to put up signs all over the garden that say "Please do not prune or spray" and every time they come they completely ignore it and I have to yell at them while they are spraying the sign that says "do not spray" and inevitably they kill tons of things every time. Yesterday, they thought they were weeding but in reality pulled out 30-40 of my flowers that were growing, including a peony that was literally sitting below the sign that says do not prune. After talking to them multiple times and putting up signage, there seems to be nothing you can do to keep them from killing everything they see. Do not hire these people, they will destroy everything and are beyond incompetent.

MAKING AUSTIN CODES VIOLATIONS!!! This freaking company goes into the apartments building right outside of all apartments since 7am making louder noise with those damn blowers. As per city od Austin codes noises are not allowed before 8/8:30am. They need to start in commercial business, NOT in residential specially in small apartment complex.

North by Northwest is by far the best landscaping company in Austin! Not only do they know their business (ie. everything about plants, hardscapes, irrigation, etc.), but they also have the most reasonable pricing and best customer service. I had obtained two estimates from other landscaping companies, and I got exactly the same design from Northwest for less than half the price. Jordan was also very good at suggesting ways to save money while still getting the design that looked and performed the way I wanted. North by Northwest was very dependable--always on time and performed exactly as promised. This is the BEST service company I have ever worked with in Austin.

I have been a customer of North by Northwest since August 2007. They used to be quite good and I was satisfied. In the past year, their service has deteriorated to the point that I am now searching for a new lawn care service. They are undependable and I never know when they will show up. More and more Tiffany sends out emails saying "crews are running behind because of .... (rain delays, cutting back winter die-back, leaf raking, etc.). The problem is when you miss your scheduled day, they don't seem to show up to ever make up your day and you have to wait for the next round. I'm on a maintenance contract so I am billed monthly whether I get the service or not. This past month my husband and I have spent countless hours in the yard, raking, trimming, and weeding on our own. It's infuriating. I just paid my bill for the past month and it made me furious that I am doing so much of the work myself. My husband called North by NW to see when they are coming (they were last here on February 15). We were told they will come Friday, March18th. Well, it's supposed to rain on Friday so I guess we will be missing our service once again!!!

I live in a townhome community that uses North by Northwest. While I realize the work that is being done is hard they skip over whole sections of the property that aren't seen by most people. They are supposed to leaf blow all walkways and if they do mine & 3 other buildings once a month that's a lot. There are trees with these tiny flowers that are always falling, tree branches still coming down and unless the residents call the front office it doesn't get handled. I've heard how much our community pays (several thousand) and you should be ashamed! And not just that but when they actually do come over they leave a bigger mess than what was there because I've been going out and sweeping by the area. Please do better.

Our backyard is flooded constantly and the company is giving us the run around. The city of Leander has stated openly that North by Northwest did not grade our lot properly and until they do The right thing then we have a mud pit for the back yard

I love everything they serve from the food to the beer. Pork chops were outstanding. Definitely one of our favorite places!

After using NXNWL to install a new fence (along with several neighbors who did the same), I gave them the opportunity to come back out and give me a landscape bid for the front yard; with eventually the back to follow. On October 27, 2016--Jay came out and we discussed. I sent the requested documents within the hour of him coming out. A few weeks go by. Had correspondence with Tiffany at least twice on status of the bid--had to resend deliverables. Inquired if it usually took this long to turnaround a landscape bid--mind you Thanksgiving was just around the corner. Then came Christmas. And here we are today--January 17, 2017. And I have yet to receive my bid, much less have received any touch base from NXNWL. Extremely disappointed. They were more responsive and proactive when it came to installing the fence than doing landscape work. For this I don't recommend. Business 101: Stay in touch with the customer/potential customer, follow through regardless of the outcome. This would have been easy repeat business, not to mention potential referrals. I've since gone elsewhere.

I can't say enough good thing about these guys. The service, the quality of the job and the way they work with you and your budget is exactly what I'm looking for in a contractor. They just installed a new sprinkler system and they did an absolutely fantastic job! They came to my house after the installation to make sure I was satisfied and understood how the system works. He gave me a lot of tips on how to save money on my water bill and yet keep a healthy lawn! They absolutely have my business! No way I will try other any landscape! Give them a try, you will not be disappointed!

While setting up the appointment was easy with Rose being very responsive, there was a serious breakdown in communication today(3/3/2020) as I waited for someone to come give an estimate. I waited 2 hours and had 3 different phone conversations. The first time I called, I was assured that someone would be on their way and that they had left at 10:05 AM (the appointment was from 10-11. Seeing as they were coming from north Austin, and I live in south Austin, I was ok with that, though worried about how much time I was taking off from work to make this appointment. At 11:05 I called again and was told that they would now call to check in on the worker. I wish they would have called earlier, but still, I'm understanding and willing to wait a little longer. I get a call back 10 minutes later saying that the person coming to get an estimate was called into a commercial project and would not be making the appointment today. All of this could have been cleared up with a simple phone call at 10:30, I could have made it back to work and rescheduled. Things happen. Just frustrating that the call wasn't made to check in sooner rather than wasting a potential customer's time. I understand they get most of their business from commercial projects, but until they can figure out a way to make sure communication doesn't break down, and that they actually have the staff to do residential project assessment, they shouldn't take on any requests for residential projects.

I would not recommend NXNW for lawn service. I signed up to have my lawn mowed, edged, bed care and shrub trimming. They have never provided bed care or any shrub trimming to my yard and I have been with their service for over a year. They do not mow the entire lawn and they have skipped a hill on my property at least twice a month even though I am charged extra for the hill. If it rains on your scheduled service date and they aren't able to perform lawn service they do not have a make up date. You get charged the full monthly service contract price. I have texted or called them several times on problems and since it is now becoming such a frequent occurrence, it is time for a change.

I would like to start off by sharing that our experience with NXNW Lawns has been fantastic from start to finish, and that I am in no way affiliated with their company personally or professionally. My wife and I recently completed the build on our new home, and in an effort to save money, we decided to install our irrigation system after its completion. I spent a few days reviewing yelp, and after reaching out to many companies, the majority of them either had little/no reviews on irrigation, or they had many 1 star ones. The first 5 star company that I reached out to was booked up 4 months out- but they by name referred me to NXNW Lawns as being extremely competent. In terms of our smart sprinkler system it was the best decision that we ever made. Jordan from NXNW came to our home and performed an extremely detailed demonstration of what heads they were going to install, varying per area- the logic behind their placement, and also walked us through the smart app that would be used to monitor and control its settings. We were under a bit of pressure to get this installed quickly- as we had new sod- and NXNW went above and beyond to not only rush out to meet us, but they were able to seamlessly implement this within a couple of days. Of the bids we received, NXNW came in right at the lower end- and their demonstration and walkthrough blew us away. Since then, we have signed on with NXNW to manage our lawn care as well- this relationship is early, but so far they have done a fantastic job to that end as well. You can tell that Jordan and his team are passionate about what they do- and they take pride in their workmanship and response time. Specific to Jordan- I can't say enough about how professional he has been, and responsive even during off hours and weekends. I would urge anyone that are looking to replace or install an irrigation system to use NXNW Lawns- and if our lawn trim/fertilization schedule continues as its been I would advocate for them there as well. I am happy to answer any questions- and again want to thank Jordan and the NXNW Lawns team.

All I wanted was a consultation/advice, and didn't want any actual estimates or any work done. Jordan M. was able to come out the next day and gave me a ton of useful tips for my grass (or lack thereof) and plants in my front and back yards. He was very honest and open about what it would cost to have a new lawn put in and advised me against having him do the work because the grass would never be able to survive in such a heavily shaded area. I guess I can't comment on NXNWL's work because they didn't do any, but if I were in need of some work I wouldn't hesitate to contact them.

They did such an amazing job making my yard look presentable. I had my front flower beds, driveway area, and back patio all re-done. I wanted to cry when I saw the finished product, it was exactly what I wanted. Jordan and Tiffany were so awesome to work with. Highly recommend!

So happy with North by Northwest - we LOVE the work they did and highly recommend this company! We had a sizable project in my backyard and after doing some research and getting estimates from several companies, we chose NXNW and it was absolutely the right choice. From the start, they were quick to respond, on time, and listened to us. They were very professional, asked all the right questions, and honest and upfront about pricing. There was a quick turnaround on the design and pricing, and they even followed up to see if I had any questions, which made me feel like they wanted/appreciated my business, unlike the other companies I got estimates from. They came back in under my budget and with more in the project than I thought I'd get so I booked the work. Words cannot express how happy we are with the completed project! I read some of the other reviews and did not experience any opportunities with communication. Everyone-Jordan, Tiffany, and Jackie-that we dealt with was great. The project took two days and the crew was professional, kept things cleaned up, and did an awesome job-they left me feeling like I got more than I paid for. It was also the little details and the things they did that went above and beyond that made this good experience a great one. For example, we had a broken sprinkler pipe on the side of the driveway (had nothing to do with this project), and when they were testing the irrigation system they noticed the broken pipe and fixed it for us. They also noticed I had some potted plants that I have by our pool and struggle to water as often as I should. When they worked on the irrigation in the bed we added next to the pots, they added little lines that go into the pots and now I don't have to hand water them anymore. I already loved the experience, the work and craftsmanship they provided, and the very reasonable pricing, but it was those little things that put us over the top- my husband and I agree-we will only be using North by Northwest for our future projects, and highly recommend this company to everyone. I used NXNW for my irrigation system in '20. While expensive I decided to use them again in '21. When I tried to set an appointment they indicated I had an outstanding balance and wouldn't give me an appointment until it was settled. Under further review, to make a long story short, I found that I had sent them a check in '20 but it wasn't cashed. I sent them emails, phone calls [they were always screened] and dropped of a letter personally indicating what I had found out, that I had cancelled the other check and was sending another from my bank. Asked to let me know when they get the check. Never got a response at all. No email, no phone call. Nothing. I finally didn't give my name on a call and spoke with them. They acknowledge they received the letter, etc. and cashed the new check. No apologies for the misunderstanding, no concern, didn't even ask if I wanted to now set up the appointment for this year. Bad attutude.

I am house sitting a house with 3 dogs. I left to run errands and NXNW Lawns had stopped by while I was away. They left a note saying they had completed the front yard but wasn't able to do the back because of the dogs. When I got in I called them up and begged for them to come back and do the backyard if they had a chance. They did!!! They were here within 10-15mins of me making the call. They did a great job and I went out to thank each of them personally. Jacob and Marico I owe you BIG TIME! Thanks for your wonderful and thorough job on the yard!!!

Have had their service almost a year. In the beginning it was fabulous ! Wanted grass cut (a little taller - not scalped--but certain didn't weeds sticking way up above the grass either -- is there a "common sense" approach ?). The mowing manager made sure they did a great job. We paid all through the winter months (when no mowing actually takes place - just a little edging and leaf blowing) - but we were happy to do it to keep a great service. Then this spring the regular manager for our yard was replaced with someone else. The service crashed. Last Monday they set the mower so high there were 6" tall weeds in the front yard - that's not "a little taller" - that's no mowing at all. Out back they did a really poor job. We have an agreed upon area they mow to. They only did half of it. Blew the leaves off the front porch and left them right there in the flower beds ! When we called to get it rectified they said they'd come out and look. To our knowledge they never did. So now 9 days later we've called back and the response is "you said you wanted it taller" and basically if we're not happy we can cancel the contract. He did not say they had even come out to look at it - and I don't think they did. We are here almost 24/7. Very disappointing. Did not address incomplete work at all. Our neighbors have also cancelled their service. Husband will be mowing today - we'll find another service. A shame because this was a great service - and we always paid our bill timely. So I guess we all lose.

This company had good ratings near where I live so I called and arranged an aeration. The guy tried talking me into this "new" product that reduces watering by 75%!! Even so, the cost was more than the Summer savings mind you. He said they they could just do the aeration next week. OK. Next week came and he said we'll see you early tomorrow. Early tomorrow came and I didn't hear from them. I don't want to waste my time chasing down a business to commit to their scheduling. As well, they apparently don't want to schedule a customer that's not going to spend an extra $700 on the product they're pushing. For an extra $200 you can get a layer of compost. I'll give you a layer of compost!

These guys @ north by northwest were more affordable than the other two companies that bid . Jordan, Adam,&Tiffany worked as a team to make sure the Springler system install crew were on time and on budget . I would recommend them to everyone.

This FAMILY RUN business has been doing our lawn service for 3 years. We moved from out of state and had no idea how to care for a TX lawn. Great service and are very responsive. Our lawn looks great and they take care in making sure you are happy with how things look. They did landscaping for us along our cabana and it is beautiful with being on time and budget. My last crisis was that I could not get my sprinkler system to shut off in one section and I didn't realize it was running all day! I called Tiffany and Jay, the owner, got back to me right away. With in 30 min I had two of their top team members Adam and Jordan out here to fix the problem. One of those great guys even brought in my garbage!! Great people! thx NXNW!

North by Northwest Lawns have been servicing my property for nearly 10 years. They landscape as well as installed and service my sprinkler system. My yard looks great! They provide an excellent service and always go the extra mile. They are a great value for the money.

What a great lawn service. I can't say anything more than that about this company. There on time, return my calls, my lawn always looks great. I can tell scheduling is extremely important with this company. They were extremely attentive with my garden and other plants. I've had previous loan companies who have butchered my garden and surrounding plants. Josh has taken very good care of me as well as Luis. Jordan always returns my phone calls in a timely manner. The lady who answers the phones, I believe her name is Tiffany is great as well. I called on a Monday and was quickly added to that list of lawns to be mowed the very next day. So every other week on a Tuesday my lawn looks great.

I can't speak highly enough about North by Northwest lawns. They were AMAZING. After a competitor had left my yard a mess, North by Northwest Lawns jumped in and saved the day!!! I have several properties in the Austin area and, from here on out, will only use NXNW lawns. Don't waste your time or money on anyone else. The staff and service at NXNW is top notch.

Got a quote 2 months ago and never heard back. The comments here show that the lack of communication and follow up we experienced was not unique to us. It's unfortunate. We were 100% ready to pay for their services but they left our money on the table.

We are fairly new clients ( ~ 6 month's ) however we've been extremely satisfied with the service provided. No matter what we request, the team has met our requests. Recently we contracted for special landscaping to patch the yard from new pool construction. The project was quoted at a fair price and completed on time.

The North x Northwest Lawn service has been taking care of my lawns for 2 months or so. The crews have gone above & beyond my expectations. Yard looks amazing. Kudos many many times from the crews (10 STARS) to the office staff. Pride in their work definitely shines through!

I have so much good to say about North by Northwest Lawns. I first hired them to install a sprinkler system for me and was so impressed that I had them come back to help me do some work to get my shrubs under control. The work they did was so much more then what I expected or was expected to pay for that I have now hired them for my weekly mowing and trimming. I am also going to be having them come out in the near future to install some new hard-scaping in my yard to rebuild my flower beds and a couple of walkways. I highly recommend them to everyone!!

Don't waste your time because they will waste yours. Jordan came to the house within 2 days but he took weeks to send a landscape design, but no estimate. I sent multiple emails, texts and calls with no reply. The lady who answers the phone, I believe Teresa, says they are extremely busy! Never heard from them again! They lost my business!

I called to set up an appointment for a quote for lawn service and landscaping because we are considering changing companies. Tiffany said Jay would be out that day (Tuesday) which was great because I had the day off. Well, he never showed and never called so I decided I wouldn't be calling back and will look elsewhere. Then I get a call from Jay the following Monday and he left me a voicemail to find out what I needed. I called back and got voicemail so called the office again and got Tiffany again. I explained that Jay called almost a week after leaving me hanging and I asked why that happened. She said they had it on the system for him to come out so she's not sure what happened and will have him call me back. It's been almost another week and no call again. They may have other good reviews from work they have been able to accomplish, but they apparently don't want my business. If this is any indication as to how they run the business, I'm not interested. Thanks for restoring my appreciation for my current landscapers.
