This is our fourth visit to a Natural Selection camp and despite a few minor hiccups on arrival in Maun, the trip could not have been more exceptional and completely and utterly exceeded our expectations. ||From the moment you are collected from the airstrip you can feel the stress of daily life draining away as you slowly make your way to the camp, whilst absorbing the Okavango environment and landscape, letting it seep into your soul. Crossing the first and then second of the quintessential bridges on to North Island you are immediately taken by the beauty of the Island and when the camp comes into view with the perfectly integrated Jackleberry, Sausage Trees, Leadwoods and Mangosteens, you realise that ‘life is good’. ||The welcome by the staff makes you feel right at home and when they say you will become part of the family during your stay, there is absolute sincerity in that statement. ||The rooms are staggeringly well appointed with every possible amenity you may need, provided. You could potentially stay the whole time in your room and still have the most glorious time, and if you are staying long enough it is a wondrous experience to just ‘take a day’ to lounge by the plunge pool, absorb the sights and sounds of the hippos, elephants and fish eagles cavorting in the channels and pool in front of the ‘tent’, and partake of the fantabulous meals provided by Mr. T and Chantel. ||Of course the primary purpose of anyone’s visit is to behold the wonders of the Delta, and North Island Okavango delivers this is in spades! Our guide Parks was incredibly knowledgeable and we were able to observe the most incredible sightings of White Rhino, Painted Wolves, Leopard, Lion, Elephant, African Wild Cat, Hyena and of herds and herds of Buffalo, Zebra, Wildebeest, Lechwe and Tsessebe. Never mind witnessing a Wildebeest giving birth, a Leopard taking a baby Warthog back to her one year old cub, hunting with Painted Wolves as they took down an Impala and then celebrating with a ‘dip’ in the local watering hole, and having a Pel’s Fishing Owl greeting us as we returned to camp from an evening drive. ||All thanks to the management staff Keya and KT and to every single one of the staff from the guides to the general staff for making our stay as fantastical as it was. And thanks to Colin Bell and his team at Natural Selection for continuing to go above and beyond in exceeding our expectations. Not sure one can do better than North Island Okavango but I am sure Natural Selection will continue to strive to.
