Discovered this Fish & Chip Shop after work. It was a 20 minute easy walk from Coal Drops Yard. It’s so comforting eating a hot portion of cut fried potatoes and these chef’s superseded my expectations. I ordered open regular chips to Takeaway. The premises was clean, staff very welcoming, and they can even do your chips extra crispy which made me smile when I heard the customer in front of me request that. It was delicious and stayed hot in temperature down to the last chip. Baring in mind it took 30 minutes to finish the whole thing ( Regular chips: costing £3) I really enjoyed your food, thank you.

If you're looking for an exceptional fish and chips experience in London, look no further than North Sea Fish in King’s Cross. This gem of a restaurant is a true testament to the timeless tradition of great British seafood, with a modern twist that makes it stand out. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who make you feel at home from the moment you walk in. The menu features a variety of fresh, sustainably sourced fish, all battered to perfection and fried to a crisp, golden brown. The chips are thick, fluffy on the inside, and just the right amount of crispy on the outside – the perfect complement to the beautifully cooked fish. One of the standout features of North Sea Fish is the quality. The fish is always fresh, tender, and flaky, with a flavor that shines without being overwhelmed by batter. You can taste the care that goes into selecting only the finest ingredients, and it truly elevates the meal. The portions are generous, making it an excellent value for money, especially considering the high quality. They also offer a great selection of sides, from mushy peas to the classic tartar sauce, which are the perfect accompaniments. Plus, the wine and drink selection complements the menu beautifully, offering something for every taste. Whether you're a local or just visiting King’s Cross, North Sea Fish is a must-try. It’s an absolute delight for anyone who loves traditional fish and chips with a focus on quality and taste. I can’t recommend it enough – it’s hands down one of the best fish and chip spots in London.

Dined here last night and had my 2 favourite things- prawn cocktail and grilled skate wing! Delicious! The homemade desserts were also scrumptious! Can’t wait to come back

Judging by the venue’s past high reviews, I was very pleased with my today’s impromptu visit! I looked forward to try their signature “Fisherman’s Catch” as an individual guest and it did not disappoint me one bit! During my previous visit, however, part of this dish was not present, so I had to rely on alternatives, which were still great, especially the scallops. My today’s experience set a whole new standard for the quality of seafood cooking and a very fine selection of both food and drinks, which can help accomodate any guest. Massive kudos to the chef, and the lovely girl serving me for my second visit! Would definetely recommend and visit soon once again. Fantastic quality and amazing venue!

The food at this restaurant is excellent — no complaints there. However, the kitchen seems to prepare the same dish differently every time, which points to either a lack of attention to detail or no consistent standard for all guests. Attached are two photos of the exact same meal on different visits — one came with salad and ketchup, the other didn’t. A small thing, maybe, but consistency is part of the experience.

My husband and I dropped by for a Friday night dinner, just the two of us, ending the week on a high note. What we expected to be a nice little meal turned into a fullblown flavour journey that we’ll be talking about for weeks. The atmosphere was already promising. Cosy, lively, and filled with that comforting buzz of people enjoying good food and good company. But it was the service and care that really set the tone. Every interaction felt genuine and thoughtful, like we were being looked after rather than just served. The kind of warmth you rarely come by in the rush of city dining. The menu? A delightful problem. So many tempting options that we honestly considered eeny-meeny-miny-moe. Thankfully, the staff are absolute stars and helped us through it with patience, charm, and very good taste. We started with the fried calamari and garlic prawns with bread, both recommended by our lovely waiter, AJ. We were initially skeptical about the calamari. Too many places hide frozen disappointment under a batter disguise. But AJ promised we wouldn’t be let down. And he was absolutely right. The calamari? Mind-blowingly tender, crisp, fresh, the kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite just to savour it properly. I genuinely felt emotional when they were gone. The garlic prawns were rich, juicy, and so flavourful that even the bread they came with felt like a treat. AJ, who looked after us with such sincere attention, even brought out a Thai sweet chili dip for the calamari, a thoughtful touch that paired beautifully, though honestly, the calamari didn’t need it. They were perfection on their own. Our mains arrived with surprising speed (we hadn’t even finished the starters), and each one was a knockout. The cod fish & chips was a masterclass in balance, light, crispy batter that let the freshness of the fish shine. Oh and not to mention, their own made tartar sauce was absolute divine. Give me 10 tubs please. And the grilled salmon? It deserves an award. Crispy skin, juicy flesh, perfectly cooked. You could taste the care in every bite. If there’s an award for best grilled fish, please hand it over to the chefs at this place immediately. We ended the evening with a sticky toffee date pudding with vanilla ice cream. I hope their pastry chef sleeps well at night knowing they’re changing lives. Warm, rich pudding with molten date goodness, perfectly paired with the cold ice cream, it felt like the closing scene of a great film. The food alone would’ve made it a night to remember. But what really stayed with us was the care, the warmth, the people behind it all. We were lucky enough to briefly meet the chefs, Mathew and Khriston, to express our thanks, and also to be looked after by AJ and Monica on the floor, with Benny at the takeaway counter sharing a kind smile. Every single person we interacted with made the evening feel personal. Like a little pocket of kindness in a big, busy world. Do yourself a favour and visit. You’ll leave full, and maybe, like us, a little moved too. 10/10 highly recommend.

We ordered fish and chips and bread and butter pudding for takeaway. The staffs are nice and serve freshly fried products here! Everything was very tasty. Great sauces too!

Google
Fantastic fish and chips! Huge portions, lovely staff and service, and very great experience all around. We came in late and the restaurant was quite busy. The waiters were super amazing and worked on getting our food out quickly.

Yelp
found the place right by the hotel. Nice old style UK restaurant. Wait staff were super nice and welcome us since is our first time there. Got seated right away without reservation. Of course have to order the fish and chip! Waitress explain the different fish we can order. I order the COD and wife got Haddock as suggested by the waitress. Both fish were so fresh with fries that you can order refill. The fish mix with Tatar sauce was so good!!! We will be back next time in London!!!

Yelp
Overall, highly recommended, this is a great spot. We got take out from here on our way to catch a train to Paris. I'm positive it would have been even better had we eaten this fresh. We ordered the fried cod with side of chips (fries). * Portion sizes are incredible (I ordered the larger size as the price was only a little more) * Packaged in a sturdy box that you can eat out of * Made fresh to order, not ahead of time * Fish was very fresh, not fishy or stale tasting at all * This is more of how fish and chips are served outside the US, but there was no seasoning - it does let you taste the freshness of fish, and you can add salt and dips as you wish * Restaurant and to go side looked very clean and well run The -1 star is due to the speed of service. It took a long time from when we ordered to when we got our food (about 30 minutes). Note this was the dedicated take out / to go side of the restaurant. The lady did apologize for the long time it took, but we got to a point where we were worried about being late to the train. Overall, highly recommend stopping by North Sea Fish. I wish we had a chance to try the restaurant.

Yelp
Solid fish and chips in the Bloomsbury area! We were staying in the hotel area not too far away and got takeaway here twice to eat it outside a local pub. The portions are super generous and the chips are the best we had during our entire visit! There were two sides, one for inside dining and one for takeaway. We didn't eat inside but it looked nice. The takeaway line goes rather quickly as they are frying everything fresh. The fish is pretty good, but the chips were writing home about, and make sure to put plenty of vinegar on them! There were a couple of bars that weren't serving food in the evening, so we took it right down the road and it was still steaming fresh. The staff were super friendly and were cranking out orders as fast as they could. If you're in the area, make sure to stop by and grab some of the best fish and chips on this side of London!

Yelp
If you are looking for a great fish and chips place, look no further. Its located just a few minutes from the hotel we are staying in. The portions are large and the chips are unlimited. The fried haddock and the fried COD were crispy and delicious. The vegetable soup was savory and hamburger was meaty and juicy. Service was excellent and there is wine and beer for everyone's liking.

Yelp
Just coming back to say that years later and many other fish and chips places tried and this place is still hands down the best one I've had in London. Excellent fish and superior chips but also the staff are just so dang nice. I arrived late for my reservation which was the last seating of the night on a Saturday and not only did they not hassle me about it, they welcomed me in without even flinching. I never felt rushed (even though I did because I was NOT going to be the last patron left in that restaurant) and everything tasted as hot and fresh as it always does. This is what keeps me coming back to this spot even though I have to come to this area just for fish and chips. It's always worth it.

Yelp
We didn't have a reservation but they were able to seat us right away. Food was quick and incredible quality. Kind waitstaff and cool ambiance (fish/ocean themed without being tacky or overwhelming).

Yelp
Really nice restaurant to have a good plate of fish and chips. We ate in the restaurant and there was 7 of us. Great service and lots of fish to select from.

Yelp
A nice place to get great fish and chips within walking distance of Hilton Euston. Service was great, food piping hot and reasonably priced. Definitely will be a regular stop for me when I'm in London.

Yelp
You'd think finding fish and chips in the UK an easy task but sometimes you just need to know where to look. Other times you have to search a bit. My son and I were staying near King's Cross station and wanted fish and chips. After a quick search North Sea Fish Restaurant came up along with its many awards and recognition. So we went to give it a try. A short walk later and we arrived. Cozy but not too cramped, the place was full and while we didn't have reservations they were able to fit the two of us in after 15 mins. Service was good and the fish and chips also! Definitely would visit again and try some of their other menu as well.

Yelp
Excellent service for my take away while I was in London. I'm not keen on seafood but had to have my chips. They put so many in my takeaway that I had to work over an hour to finish them all. The staff was extremely pleasant, courteous and fun! If you're looking for authentic fish and chips while in town, make it a point to stop in.

Yelp
Super friendly people here in this two part fish and chip shop (one side is all take away the other side is a quaint sit down restaurant). There's a ton of fish to choose from and you can get it fried or grilled. I got the cod which is a long fillet batter and fried, though not particularly super hot or crispy. It did taste fresh and was a nice local place to pop in (being the tourist that I am). I could see how this would be my neighborhood take away spot easily if I lived here...which is always cool.

Yelp
This gem is a treasure. We had dinner here and the food was spot on. Have the bread pudding with custard. Staff is great too In an area where there isn't much but fast food this place was totally worth the walk.

Yelp
You'll find North Sea Fish Restaurant a short walk from Kings Cross on a quiet unassuming street. Inside however, it's a bustling eatery. You'll wait to be greeted and seated at their entry. Food: Fish and chips! I had the medium cod combo which comes with a basket of perfectly tender and crisp chips. The fish was quite large for a medium, with a delicate batter and a good fry on it. Homemade tartar sauce is provided in a bowl on the table, and it was the right blend of tart and creamy. Bread pudding was a treat. A large slice filled with raisins, was surrounded by a light custard sauce. Service: There were four waitstaff, but as they were busy, it took a good 10 minutes before I was acknowledged and seated. I had a small table by the bar with one chair. Not the solo diner's dream, but I at least had a good view of the restaurant. Orders were taken quickly, and food comes out equally fast. Drinks were refilled when requested. Cost: Medium cod plate and a bread pudding ran about £22. Overall: Make a booking if there's more than one of you. Not a chain, fresh fish, clean, and they take cards/cash.

Yelp
I was visiting the land of fish-and-chips after years of eating half-decent fare in the US. Anticipative fever was running high. Now for the routine Londoner, a simple paper bag full of chips and cod ain't nothing to get hyped about and given the staple nature, it shouldn't be. They probably grab one on a rainy day making their way from the tube to the double-deckers. I was quite keen on trying some freshly caught and fried cod right from British shores. Eulogy aside, the fish was very steamy and so were the chips (I went to the takeaway store). A surprise was the tartar and ketchup sachets being priced extra. They added well to the cod and chips respectively. The portions were large and I could not finish the bag (for some reason the fish and chips portions in California are stingy, like for an appetizer). It was nice sitting on a random London sidewalk watching the well-dressed passersby with my hands dripping with tartar.

Yelp
Loved this little fish shop! We split the jumbo size cod fish and chips, garden peas, and a pint of lager - perfect for two for lunch. Also had the chance to refill the chips, but there was no need. Tasty homemade tartar sauce, lemons wedges on the side, too. Would go again!

Yelp
Out of the three fish and chips place I had in whilst in London, this was by far hands down the best. The portion of cod was generous, fried to a nice crunchy crisp with tender juicy insides and accompanying chips made for a very hearty meal. Hint: doing take away is less cost, however you then have to wait to eat all the fried goodness.

Yelp
Great food -- the fried Haddock was fantastic. Very attentive and friendly service. And all at a pretty reasonable price!! Absolutely would eat here again !!

Yelp
We've been craving fish and chips ever since we decided on taking holiday in London and this place definitely did not disappoint. We got the fried haddock and chips. Fish was fried to order as it came piping hot. Large filet of fried fish perfect for two! My fiance loved the tartar sauce that came with the fried haddock. I preferred the fish with a squeeze of lemon and malt vinegar. Chips were perfectly crispy, great to dunk into the tartar sauce as well. We also got the grilled seabass with a side of boiled potatoes. Sounds simple and it was, but it stands out as one of my favorite meals in London so far. A entire fish perfectly grilled. Filet it on your own with, fish comes off the bone with ease. Small squeeze of lemon was all it needed, if any. This dish was perfection. I love this place. Small intimate restaurant, great service, amazing food.

Yelp
Well this was a great find. It was a little chaotic since a large party came in at the end of of the night and the staff wanted to close it down. Though it was chaotic, it added good entertainment. The fish and chips was great. Having a medium portion was more than filling. Their homemade tartar sauce was tasty. We will go back... I am sure the craziness of the end of the night was because there was a party of 12 at closing time that came in...good food here.

Yelp
I have never been a huge fish and chips fan, but of course had to have some while visiting London. This place has ruined me for life. The best fish and chips I have ever had. The batter was light and not greasy at all. The fish was perfect on the inside. The tartar was delicious which I think must of been homemade too. They even have a take out section next store.
google avatar

Scott L.

Yelp
What makes simply battering fish and deep frying it and potatoes special?!? NOTHING! There are about a bazillion places doing this in the UK, so what makes this place better? Cannot say: Sat waiting for a menu for my 5 minute limit then left, walked across the street to an Indian restaurant.
google avatar

Marcy M.

Yelp
This was on several best of lists for fish and chips in London so the bf and I decided to check it out. I got the haddock while he got the cod. There were a few tiny bones in both which made me kinda paranoid the rest of the meal but nothing large enough to leave a mark. The chips are unlimited but after our first serving we were already full-- they were also DELICIOUS!!! If I could redo the experience I probably would have tried a different type of fish. However since haddock is the typical go to for fish and chips I figured it was the way to go. This was a tad pricey but the area is far from a typical pub setting. I'm sure there is type of fish that could push my rating up!

Yelp
Out of all the places I've travelled and all the restaurants I've ever dined at--which includes several sketchy restaurants in rural China--my dining experience at North Sea Fish Restaurant has by far been the worst, and it's not even close. The sub-par food might be the only saving grace of this place. The service is terrible, and the security is even worse. A woman got pick-pocketed sitting at the closest table to the front door by an intruder and very little was done about it...other than giving her a phone, an old tablet, and some post-it notes to sort it out herself. The neighborhood has some foot traffic, but not enough to call this place safe by any means. Additionally, the waiter who served us was extremely rude. He didn't understand physical and spacial human boundaries at all. He would continually interrupt our meal to talk about "identity security," and on one occasion he reached across our table, a good 8 inches above my food, to make several unnecessary hand gestures while divulging into a passionate rant on identity security. Moreover, we never received a portion of our order, and were subsequently charged for it without much of an apology. Save your money, protect your identity, and save your stomach space. There are infinitely better alternatives in the area to try.

Yelp
During my weeklong visit I visited North Sea Fish Restaurant twice! This was my first stop after arriving as well as my last stop before departing. On my first visit I arrived for a late lunch on a Saturday. They were about to close for the mid day break. There were a few other people there but in general it was fairly quiet. I ordered a regular order of the cod with chips. A regular is a plenty big portion, let me tell you! The homemade tartar sauce was fantastic. It had a slick kick from horseradish and I loved it so much I started to dip my chips into it. The fish was really fresh and light. They did such a good job frying it that there didn't seem to be any evidence of grease. The chips are bottomless but the portion is so generous I have to wonder who can make it through one basket. Yes, they are really good. On my second visit, I came with two work colleagues who wanted fish and chips, badly. This time I ordered this mixed seafood platter, which came with a variety of fish and seafood, and chips. I was very pleased with the quality of the fried seafood, as were my dining companions, who both come from towns that have a lot of seafood. The menu contains a wide variety of fish cooked in different ways (e.g. grilled, fried, etc.) and with different breading. There is more than just fish on the menu so I would consider this a seafood restaurant than a fish and chips shop. There is a take out storefront next door but lack of any place to really sit and eat it nearby. Service was better on my second visit than my first. One waitress seemed to be a bit more friendly with some patrons vs. others. Seating can be a bit tight so be prepared for noise when it's a full room. I would highly suggest reservations for the dinner, esp. on Fridays, which they said was their busiest time.
google avatar

Allen T.

Yelp
Large Portions of Fish, unlimited bottomless fries. Pretty packed when we got here, but luckily we scored a table. There was a couple in front of us that was waiting when we got there, but we both got seated at the same time. Additionally, other people were turned away after we got the last spot. Basically must make reservations especially since place is so small. This place is as good as it gets for bang for the buck. If I had been a little hungrier, I definitely could have taken advantage of the bottomless fries. GF ended up getting the cod, while I got the large haddock. I don't recommend getting the large as I didn't see much different in size between the small and the large. Cod: GF found some tiny bones in the cod, so she didn't seem to enjoy it. Haddock: Wow this thing was amazing. The fish was overly oily, which made the fish fry/batter lose some crispiness, but it was still super yummy. I could definitely feel the fats and oils settling in while I ate. Still would recommend this place. Fries: Can't so no to bottomless fries now can I?
google avatar

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
The jumbo fish is really big. We got to the restaurant at 7pm and the waiter (super nice) told us that they probably would not be able to seat us until 9pm. Two couples were turned away in front of us as well. The restaurant looked nice and traditional inside. Just next door is their take away location, which is apparently much cheaper than their eat in menu. We ordered cod and haddock, as well as chips. They had chips and a few pieces of fried fish available and ready for purchase but we had to wait 15 minutes while they prepared and fried our cod and haddock. This was worth the wait as the fish was piping hot when we got it. We didn't want to walk all the way to our hotel so we ate it sitting on a small bench right outside the restaurant. During the 20 minutes we were eating, there were probably 30 people coming in and out to order take away. Some locals ordered just chips, which they had the option of adding salt to. We ate the cod first, which was very meaty and tender. We knew the fish was fresh and not frozen by the way the meat was falling off each other. The haddock had a much fishier taste and less tender than the cod. I'm glad we got a chance to eat both. The chips were so good!

Yelp
Find myself in two minds about this place. Reputed as one of the very best traditional fish restaurants in London, I usually seem to come away vaguely dissatisfied. The decor is enjoyably old-fashioned with no concessions to modernity. The fish is fresh and well cooked, with crisp thin batter, perhaps a little too thin. The chips are fine, though again seem to lack a little "substance". The home-made tartare sauce is delicious and a real bonus here. You can also get a decent glass of wine or beer. There is little that is negative so it's probably just a matter of personal taste. It just doesn't quite hit the "classic" fish 'n' chips spot for me.
google avatar

Jeff P.

Yelp
When we walked past this before it was open for dinner, the menu looked exactly like what we were searching for. But, to be honest, I wasn't sure what kind of place it would be. Wow, what a find! We went back about 6 PM, and I was concerned that no reservation was going to be an issue (I would definitely recommend making a booking). But, they seated us, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. We started off with the salmon appetizer, which was fairly traditional in presentation, except for being served on bread versus toast points or a cracker. But, it really seemed to work in this case; delicious. We had prawns and grilled halibut, which were both really good. The server tried to tell me the halibut was juicy, I'm not sure I'd go that far. Flavors, however, we're great. We finished by splitting the bread and butter pudding with custard; outstanding. Great find, I would absolutely come again on another visit to London.

Yelp
Made a booking here a few nights ago but didn't bother reading the email response telling me to wait for confirmation before showing up... Oops. Got here and we were not on the list. The place was pretty full but they had a no-show so they gave us their table. We've eaten here before, back in '15 and my review remains the same. Really good food, well cooked and with fairly good service considering how busy they were. I had grilled Scottish Salmon, instead of the more popular breaded and fried. Wonderful. This is always a reliable go-to in Bloomsbury.
google avatar

Hilary J.

Yelp
If you're looking for fried fish and chips, this is the place. They have both takeaway and sit down areas and both are super popular. We showed up right before they closed to prep between lunch and dinner so the sit down area was quiet. People were stopping by already to reserve tables for dinner and the takeaway was busy the whole time we ate. My husband and I ordered the jumbo order of fried haddock and fries. Apparently the fries are endless but we were so full from the massive filet of fish we didn't need it. The fish was friend with the skin on still which was interesting and it was perfectly crispy and juicy. The fries were piping hot and delicious. The tarter sauce had a good bite to it but I found I liked the fish best with just some lemon and a dash of vinegar. Service was polite and I can't speak to the vibe because of the time of day. Across the street there's a pub that was popular and could be good for pre/post dinner drinks.

Yelp
When a old friend suggested a reunion dinner at a fish and chip restaurant, my first thought was 'really?!?' But all my qualms were for naught as this was a great place for a fish meal! You can get the old standards here of cod and chips but it's the other fish options that are the stars. You can actually get whole fish on the bone (woo hoo!), either battered or grilled. I got the grilled lemon sole which was a monster whole fish that was perfectly cooked. No dry overcooked fish here! The main drawback here is the service. We got a few smiles from a couple of the waitstaff but it's mostly surly, grumpy, 'why are you bothering me' attitudes. The back room also got uncomfortably warm. It was packed on a Friday evening so reserve in advance, preferably a table at the front of the restaurant. It's a great, tasty spot for really well prepared fish (and chips!)
google avatar

Gotfunit W.

Yelp
Excellent fish and chips! Well cooked, light and flaky not too oily. My favorite is that their chips are small and short so they are crunchy on the outside with the soft steamy potato texture on the inside. We also tried the calamari appetizer which was just ok and the shrimp appetizer which I wouldn't recommend. Nice quaint neighborhood feeling sort of place that's a bit out of the way. Which makes it even better! Get there early if you don't have reservations!

Qingyang J.

Yelp
The vinegar is shit, the take-away staff was extremely unfriendly. I used to love this restaurant, but the staff here makes me so disappointed this time. But this time's visit will let me make the decision that I will never come again and I'm going to tell my friends not to come anymore. The takeaway place was dirty and unfriendly to be in and the dine in place is very slow. We waited forever!!! The food itself is very greasy with no flavour what so ever. Definitely don't recommend it, especially the eat in, don't waste your money here.

Yelp
You can't go wrong if you chose to eat here and you really should chose North Sea Fish. I ordered the fish n chips and was very impressed with the portion size and taste of the fish. Yum! Service waa good and fast.

Yelp
Had this place bookmarked before even coming to London. Had to say that it meet its expectation. Got here around 8pm on a Thursday night and was seated right away. The place was pack with only a table for 2 left. Eventually, a bigger table opened up and we were moved because the area they seated us in was a little inconvenient. Ordered the cod filet and the haddock filet. Both came out delicious. The haddock one had a little more flavors than the cod one. Both came with chips (fries) or boiled potatoes and we got one of each. Both was also good! The fish was a good size...they give you a while half of the fish. Beware what you order here... if you don't want the fish head and bones in your fish, make sure you order something that says filet on it... otherwise you will get the whole fish.

Yelp
We found North Sea Fish Restaurant somewhat by accident on our first night in London - but boy we were lucky we did! We shared the jumbo fish and chips and had 2 of their house draft pilsners. The fish (we chose haddock) was perfectly cooked - flaky and flavorful with an almost fluffy, golden brown crust that was perfectly crispy. The draft beer (or 'draught' as it was listed) went absolutely perfect with the fish. It was busy and we stopped in without reservations, but a kind server was able to squeeze us in. He was so attentive and friendly which also helped make the meal. All around it was such an enjoyable experience to kick off our UK trip.

Yelp
Came by for some last minute fish before leaving London. The food quality was solid. This family owned venue was full of locals. They have a good and unique selection of beers as well. The floor is a bit slippery, maybe from the oil, not sure. It was strange. Service was decent, but we did have to wait a while to get the check.

Yelp
This was our final dinner before heading home to the USA. Fish was cooked perfectly - my husband had the whole grilled fish and I had the fish and chips. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Our first night in London, we popped in to North Sea Fish Restaurant for dinner. We sat down, our waitress brought us a drink and took our order, and then we literally never saw her again. Someone else brought out the actual fish, and we never saw him again. I eventually wandered up to the front of the restaurant to get someone to give me the check, and got the heck out of there. But the fish was so. freaking. good. I cannot express to you in English how good this fish was. Or Spanish ... but I digress. The point is, that this fish was fresh, crispy, goodness of epic proportions. And when I figured out the secret of North Sea Fish Restaurant, my time in London was amazing. The secret is this: Order it to go. Let them wrap it in paper, with chips and vinegar, take it back to your hotel/hostel/b&b/street corner, and eat it straight from there with beer and a soccer game on where you may or may not know any of the rules. This is the standard for all fried fish going forward, henceforth and forevermore. So this is five star food and one star service. Don't bother with sitting down, just take advantage of the wonderful, incredible food.

Yelp
This is my 150th review and my first London review, and what better way to start by reviewing a place that serves an icon of British cuisine for the past 100 years or so: Fish and Chips. Located in the Bloomsbury neighbourhood of London, this place is divided into two sections, the restaurant section and a section for take away. My friend, his roommate and I went to the take away section because I noticed that getting fish and chips is cheaper. We got some Fried Cod and a good portion of Chips to share among ourselves. Since my friend's roommate is a devout Muslim from Oman, he wanted to make sure that the fish was prepared "halal" (he was very adamant about it), so we asked if they could prepare it "halal". The staff over there seemed to be happy and obliged to do so, but we had to wait longer compared to the typical patrons who wanted to get take away. So if you are Muslim, and want "halal" Fish and Chips, this is also a good option. After getting the fish and chips, I put some vinegar and salt on them, and started to eat. The fried fish was pretty tasty, the batter on the outside had a nice good crisp, while the fish itself was soft, and could be tastier with the Tartar Sauce. As for the chips, they were also pretty tasty. With the salt, the chips also had a good crisp that would make the chips almost addicting to eat. They use a lot of paper, which is supposedly the traditional way to wrap up Fish and Chips. The paper is fairly thick, so it's pretty good at absorbing the grease. Overall, this is a pretty good place to get some tasty Fish and Chips in London, and I would definitely come back to grab some good take away. And I did not have to spend more than £7 for a generous helping.

Yelp
This is the best fish and chips I've ever had. I chose the jumbo fried haddock cuz I'm a hungry hungry hippo and had a cider to wash it down with. The fish is perfectly cooked; flaky and delicate. The fried breading was light and ultra crispy without being too crunchy. The chips are your standard steak fries and definitely need salt, vinegar and/or ketchup for extra flavor. But the star of the show is certainly the fish. The staff is very helpful and friendly despite having to deal with our rowdy touristy group. The dining space is very homey and comfortable. All future fish and chip meals will be compared to North Sea as the benchmark.

Yelp
Tucked away about 10 minutes walk from the bustling, over crowded Kings Cross, is this lovely, homey fish restaurant. I have been coming here since I was young, and for me I just get a feeling of comfort as it's a place which reminds me of when I used to come to London with my parents during my summer holidays. However, even if it is your first time, the place simply engulfs you with a sense of familiarity and ease, and this could be due to the fact that not only is it unpretentious in anyway (except for maybe one of the waitresses who works there who can from time to time be quite off!), North Sea has been run and belongs to the same family since it first opened in 1977. This joint first started as a local fish and chip shop, but due to its popularity, and quite rightly so, it is now a restaurant with a take-away establishment right next door. The menu a nice array of fish, which you can have cooked in various ways, so as not to limit one to the usual battered fish. I last had grilled cod and chips with mushy peas. The cod was just the right texture, the chips were chunky and the peas where hot and the right kind of mushy! By the way, the portions are huge so unless you can handle it, I would recommend sharing the large portion of chips and sides they give you! Eating fish and chips at the restaurant itself is not the cheapest, but the quality and overall ambiance all put together is very pleasant.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. Fabulous food. And of course one would never go home hungry from here. Freshest fish ever - we're headed back for a second time in a week in London. The pictures tell it all.

Yelp
THOROUGHLY enjoyed my experience here. We had just arrived in London and wanted classic fish and chips. So happy to have found this place where "classic" is taken up several notches. They have the classic cod fish, but the menu here is vast with tons of great options. You're going to have a hard time selecting between all their amazing fish choices. I wouldn't call this a "fish and chips" restaurant, but a solid seafood restaurant. The serving sizes here are ample. More than ample, huge. I opted for the classic cod and chips. It was perfectly fried and tender. I couldn't finish my fish and I barely made a dent in my chips because there was so much. It didn't help that we also had a couple of their appetizers to begin with: homemade fish cake and the deep fried brie. Both absolutely delicious. My sweet side craving a little something something, I opted for the trifle. It was good, but didn't blow my mind. It was my first time eating trifle, though, so this may just be a dessert that I'm not crazy about. Service was great. Friendly and knowledgeable staff willing to answer any questions us Americans had about traditional English food. I would most definitely recommend to any seafood lover.

Yelp
Best fish and chips I think I've ever had! They were closing up when I walked in, but still seated me and made sure I had proper service. The food was FANTASTIC. Typical American, I asked for my fish well don (extra fried) - which I think adds a crisp that a lot of fish and chip joints are lacking. I should have gotten the large, but got the jumbo which is probably enough for two people. The fries were also solid. If you're in the King's Cross area of London, this.is.the.spot.

Yelp
Thanks to the Yelp community I tried this restaurant on my recent trip to London. I wasn't disappointed. The decor is old world, but well kept and perfect. the food...amazing. I had the haddock fried of course. It was perfectly prepared. Light, fresh, excellent. The tarter sauce, while good, wasn't as good as expected after reading other posts. I will definitely return on my next trip. If for no reason other then a comfortable neighborhood restaurant with good service, full fish menu and excellent taste. Give it a try. Would I stay here again? - YES Would I recommend to a friend or colleague? - YES Is it a good value for the money? - YES

Yelp
Enjoyed our first meal in London at this tasty establishment. Fish, chips, and a good beer was a must and they delivered! The cod was fresh, flakey, tasty, crispy. I had the potatoes and glad for my choice. The service was friendly, prompt and great recommendation on the Spitfire beer!

Yelp
It is a small place, fairly crowded. Decor is okay. We ordered for large fish and fries. The portion size was very nice. However, the fish skins were not removed. Of course, there was no scales but I never have seen fish fried with skin on in the US. Fries were okay but low on seasoning. Price was fairly high, € 18.00.
