The Best Halloween Parties and Events in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"I showed up to Northeast Palace’s ’80s Halloween party on Saturday, October 29, and danced to funk, old-school R&B, disco, and yacht rock from DJ Willie Adams while enjoying specialty cocktails." - Stacy Brooks

Haven't been here in years, Still a welcoming place for ALL❣️ Enjoyed hanging out on patio, listening to 80 & 90's music. Lot's of fun memories here, people are fun! To the Good Old Days. We enjoyed a couple of cold beverages.

I had a great time here, only stopped to use the restroom. Stayed until closing. The bartender Warren😁was wonderful and helpful. The owner Molly was a good hi-vibe..extremely down to earth..didn't get a chance to eat but the great smells that escaped the kitchen had my immediate attention. Wasn't sure what to expect but going in..but I left with new friends and good energy. I highly recommend this local dive..give it a go..you'll feel right at home..

Me and my beautiful daughter have went out clubbing and then came over here to the palace where my son is a bouncer security The drinks the atmosphere then ran into people that we known for over 15 years plus it was just a good vibe it's like the new Gabby's if a lot of people from Minnesota can relate back in the days Gabby's sharks it's it's the new one but for now hey I enjoyed it

Google
I agree with those that feel this bar is unsafe. I was in this bar for 30 min and was roofied. The people around me were mean and judgmental.

Julia P.

Google
This place is a classic neighborhood dive bar. It has a really friendly and cozy vibe. The food was surprisingly good! It's one of the only bars around that still has weekly specials each night. There was awesome funk music playing and then later on there was great live music. Really cool patio as well!

Amy D.

Google
I have lived in Minneapolis most of my life and this bar is in the top 3 of unique bars. The regulars are from all walks of life and have created a family. They have tons of live music and amazing DJ's and have New Orleans boil night and Jamaican jerk chicken night ( amazing). Outdoor patio with two fire pits is also awesome for smoking. Their kitchen is always on point and Wendy (cook) is awesome, I highly suggest their deep fried green beans and buffalo cauliflower.

Google
Wildly unsafe. I love NE dive bars… this is on a different tier. Packed full of sketchy people. There was a shooting in the parking lot while we were getting into our uber.

Jodi K.

Google
I love the atmosphere in here. Good dim lighting. They had a DJ and dance floor. The drinks are strong and cheap and the bartender is awesome! Great customer service! The best part is the fire places on the back patio!!! Love love love it!!
google avatar

Yelp
Tons of fun! Love this place, one of the best joints in NE to get a beer and people watch. Staff is always fun and the crowd is diverse.

Yelp
NE palace is the perfect post COVID coming out spot you never knew you needed. I was here the Friday before July 4 and they had live music from 8p-midnight. There is both a patio and indoor space but they had the doors up to allow for plenty of airflow. No one was wearing a mask and social distancing was none existent. There's seating along the bar and the wall, with additional tables outside. The bathrooms were nice and clean, and beers were easy to order. The band plays up front and there's a lot dancing no matter how small the dance floor. The whole night was a vibe! The band was originally slated to play until 11pm but extended it by an hour as people kept coming up to sub in and guest star on the instruments. It was a fantastic night out and you won't regret coming here for music and beer.

Yelp
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would get to see Nick Mason of Pink Floyd then be invited to NE Palace for some "Bingo," I mean "Dildo!" That's right it was called Dildo, and my friend Drew actually got to yell Dildo, and took home a pink pleasure prize. The drinks were reasonable, and the place is kinda divey! Bartenders and staff were super nice, including the Dildo host! Can you tell I just like saying Dildo! I dug that they had food. I went to the back and ordered up some fries for some friends and I and nothing hits the spot like some 1 am fries! Lots of good beers on tap, and selection in bottles! Again staff was super nice and I would come back in a heart beat! Just to yell, Dildo!
google avatar

Kara D.

Yelp
I love this dive! I've passed it uncountable times on Lowry and honestly wondered if it was even open. There are no windows which is kinda sketch but is good divey fun. We stumbled in here on a Wednesday night and were pleased to find some divey novelties like pull tabs, a couple pinball machines, neon signs, cheap food and drink, annnnnd, adult toy bingo. Aka "dildo". Needless to say, we've been hooked since. "Dildo" is free, starts between 9-10pm, and lasts for 8 games on Wednesday nights. That's 8 chances to win an exciting or questionable new toy! The service has been great. In fact, they recognized us all the second time we came here. Our bartender as always been friendly and efficient too. "Rollin Nolens BBQ" is available. The food is just OK but that's not what most people come for.
google avatar

Suzie R.

Yelp
Very cool, divey bar with pull tabs and etabs. Canned wine. Big TVs. They have food, but I haven't tried. Menu looks good.
google avatar

Mallory C.

Yelp
Total townie/locals only dive bar. And not in a fun way. The people who are considered "regulars" are very unwelcoming and rude to patrons outside of the NE Palace norm. I don't care that their drinks are cheap, I won't be coming back.

Cat S.

Yelp
northeast Palace is a hidden gem in Northeast Minneapolis. Every night there's a different venue of music and the food is great. Don't turn down a chance to have a wonderful evening and a great experience!
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
This place is so unsanitary. Bugs and gunk will be in your drink from their soda gun! Look at all the gross stuff floating in my glass!

Yelp
New kitchen and menu has turned me into a convert at the Palace. The crowd is super diverse, the drinks are strong, and the new food is pretty legit. The "Palace Taverns" are a take on the Iowan favorite, Rite-Maids, and they are legit. Classic NE Dive bar with tons of personality.
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
Positives: Cheap beer, and they have a TouchTunes. Negatives: We came here for adult bingo (Dildo), on a Wednesday, which was supposed to start around 9 pm. The first round didn't start until 9:30, lasted about 5 minutes, and then it was 40 MINUTES before round two started. It's also definitely a "regulars" type of crowd here, and doesn't feel very welcoming. All in all, not a fun experience and I won't be back. Side note: I've had a Yelp account for 4 years and this is the first review I've written. THAT'S how bad this experience was.

Yelp
Fun. Met up with some former work colleagues who were doing the karaoke. Fun vibe. Barkeep was a pro's pro, handling the crowd solo and with class. I don't sing but the person running the karaoke looked like she was into almost everyone's songs, even helped with some backing vocals. Beer selection was typical. Prices were reasonable. It is far away from home for me but a fun spot to meet up with pals to check in. I'd go back.

Yelp
So we've been to this place multiple times for drinks and enjoyed it. Today we decided to try the food hoping to find a new place in northeast for good dive bar eats. The food (fish and chips and a burger) was decidedly mediocre which was fine but what was unbelievable were the upcharges. A $1 extra for everything. All while the owner/manager stood there getting drunk. Our bill was $74 for a couple drinks and our subpar food. Ugh. Sadly disappointed.

Yelp
Don't go in the winter no heat cold AF, women's bathroom cold AF same temp as the outside! Drinks ok staff ok. Karaoke highlight of the night cheap entertainment like the other guy stated. Pretty much a dive bar & I think they charge a cover well turn some heat on purchase some space heaters! Bartender even had to wear a coat little space heaters don't cost that much probably would hurt the circuit breaker & fry everything out#Thumbsdown
google avatar

Jeannie V.

Yelp
Obviously a dive bar, cheap drinks, a little stinky, like a wet basement, the booths lean uncomfortably. And I don't even know if they serve food. Surprisingly nice patio which is unfortunately used mainly for smokers. BUT I've always had a fabulous time here. The karaoke is why I come, yet it's not the highlight for everyone, which is what makes it extra great in my opinion. It's a small bar and low pressure setting. So unlike Vegas Lounge, you don't have to wait for an hour to perform, you can pick super ridiculous songs, and you don't have to sing well. The last time I went to the palace, these were my selections: 1. Crocodile Rock by Elton John 2. Under the Sea (from the Little Mermaid, in Sebastian's voice) 3. Put a Ring On It, with another random girl at the bar, taking over for my male friends who realized too late they didn't know any of the lyrics 4. Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash (in the deepest drawl I could muster) Best place in NE to end the night!

Yelp
A friend and I visited this bar on a road trip to Minneapolis a while back. The bartender told us it had been there a very long time and used to be called "First Chance, Last Chance" because it was the first chance for a drink if you were coming in to town and the last chance for a drink while leaving town. We stayed inside to drink, and had the place pretty much to ourselves as the bartender went back out to the patio. We attempted to play some pool, but we were so lit that after about 10 minutes neither of us had sunk a ball so we called it quits. After that a drunk girl came in from the patio and started dancing with us and grinding us to try to piss off her date, who was out on the patio. Eventually we went outside and discovered that the patio kicks ass. It has a beautiful waterfall as the centerpiece. No wonder the bartender wanted to stay out here. The guy the girl from earlier was trying to make jealous didn't care and simply suggested that we ought to shower and burn our clothes as soon as possible. This was a good, drunken time! :)

Yelp
Is this the place where people were drinking out of fishbowls and singing karaoke? Maybe it was the Knightcap? Did we make it there even? If so, this place ROCKED.
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
This is a really divey bar that you'd go to knowing full well it's a dive bar. The people are questionable - the drinks are cheap and the karaoke is bad. But b/c of all of this it's a fun place to go to and just totally not care at all what is going on around you. Just go and rock out and have a great time!

Yelp
If you're into the stench of vomit, I'd suggest this place. I suppose it doesn't really matter when you're drunk by the time you arrive. This isn't exactly the place you start your night, and it isn't really the place you remember ending your night either. With all the bars Northeast it's like every night is a pub crawl and this is always the last stop if you make it to it at all. It's not terrible. It's fine- if you can get past the puke stench. On the bright side, there's always someone making a fool of themselves during Karaoke, the prices are okay I think, and there's enough space to kill some time until more room opens up at Tony Jaro's River Garden. And for the record- this is NOT typical for N.E. When I think of N.E. I think of Art-A-Whirl. When I think of this place, I think of pounding a bunch of beer before hopping on the Tilt- A -Whirl. It sounded like a good idea until you, and everyone else you were with, got green in the face and threw up.
google avatar

Sven T.

Yelp
Ok here is the skinny. It's in NE, duh. Probably no other place in the city can you go from Hank Williams Jr. to Bob Marley, to Metallica'a first album and back and most people in the joint liken all three. Also they had the game on. Alas not the Vikings game, but hey the TV's were still nice. Not too many, but enough to check the score. A burger and 4 summits without tip were all less than $20. The burger was pretty damn good too. I'm pretty sure we got them on some sort of 241 special on the beer. Well i know we did cause the bartender told us. She was nice. In fact the guy who asked us to move from our table so they could play poker was very nice and professional as well. Can't wait to go back. Don't know if they ever have live music, but it would be nice to play this joint.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
*note: Every time I have been here, I have arrived already drunk. This is a very unique Northeast bar, filled with white guys in backwards Twins hats and over sized white shirts and the women who love them. There is karaoke which can be fun to watch at 1:00am on a Friday. Head out to the patio, where you will be met with a maze of ceramic vases, flowers and fountains. The experience would be similar to breaking into the garden area of Menard's after a night of old fashion heavy drinking. The people on the patio will be fighting very loudly about domestic issues, sex with friends and sports, this I can assure you. The prices are good, from what I can remember as is any NE bar. It's a good time, if you can handle it.
google avatar

Yelp
The overwhelming smell of orange GoJo sets the scene for this bar. Every table is dilapidated and tipping to one side. The decor is minimal and .......old. It might fall apart at any moment. A spring might shoot up out of the comfy old seat at any moment. But I like it. I might be biased because I victimized the whole bar with my first attempted at karaoke. It's a comfortable atmosphere were you don't have to put a show on. It's laid back and accepting of all who cometh. Prices aren't too shabby.
google avatar

Yelp
I have a new bar on my list of favorite stops! We went in last night for some late night cocktails and had a rockin' good time. They had karaoke, and everyone partaking was killing their songs and really putting on a good show. The host was a super nice guy and the bartenders were great too. Strangers were smiling and singing together. Very friendly people frequent the NE Palace, I'm sure that my subsequent visits will prove it. Not that that's at all uncommon in NE, but I like to call it out when I see it. Drinks are also very cheap here - 3 vodka sodas and a beer were about $16. The vibe of the whole place was really great, a very fun and welcome environment. I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Noelle H.

Yelp
It's not every day that a bar let's you create your own game of tippy cup (not flippy cup!) right in the middle of the bar. Well done NE Palace, well done.
google avatar

Teesha M.

Yelp
It's ok but I was looking for a reggae night club on this day my birthday may 18, 2018
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
The patrons can be annoying and rowdy but if you have a large group that just wants to drink cheaply, this is the place. Karaoke and fishbowls are fun.
google avatar

Brian P.

Yelp
Among my very favorite dive joints and criminally underrated around town. Thus, a well kept secret. The bartender dudes are straight cool, the porch is spacious, the decor is like a cool movie (nothing beats the neon except perhaps the mens sink) ala David Lynch, and the clientel is so random the people watching rocks.

Matt L.

Yelp
Awesome wings -best I have ever had. Cheap stiff drinks, awesome bartenders enough said
google avatar

Clyde V.

Yelp
*allegedly* i went to this bar last night. today, i was surprised to hear they had karaoke. and that i was dancing??? i left my sweater there, i think. (hungover assumptions are the best!) they're not answering yet. so, now i'm reading these reviews and i'm ticked that i didn't know about this fountain business! or did i?
google avatar

Patrick K.

Yelp
I have visited NE Palace for many years. I have continued to enjoy the changes they have made. Unfortunately, tonight I experienced my second time where the regular clientele was rude and demanding of other patrons, with support of the staff. Tonight I was told by a patron that I was attempting to take their money. I walked up to the jukebox to just look at what music was available. A local patron no where near the jukebox said I was stealing her credits. I had no knowledge of the credits in the machine, yet management let her abuse me for no reason. This has happened previously. I recommend that if you are not a regular to this establishment that you stay away. Fool me once... and then again... third time will not happen. You have been warned.

Molly W.

Yelp
This bar reeks! The bar consistently smells like puke, the bartenders ignore you most of the time. The only upside that was at this bar was the food (which isn't there anymore) There isn't one table or chair in the bar that doesn't wobble. The booths are torn to shreds with tables that regularly sit at about 45 degrees. Skip this bar if you want to enjoy your time and breath in clean air. If you do decide to go I would recommend not parking in the lot across the street, my car was ran into while I was inside "enjoying" my warm bottle of beer.
google avatar

Dena S.

Yelp
So yeah, it kind of smells like there are six cats writing their names in piss on an inner wall of the ventilation system. But sure is nice to sit by that sexy fountain on the patio, sip a cheapy giant fishbowl and think about Febreeze.
google avatar

Gina B.

Yelp
If you havent been to the ne palace in awhile I suggest u go they made some great upgrades to the interior, I seen some reviews mention a smell but that is gone now and I've been there a couple times. Always expect a fun time at the NE palace, Great patio as well!!!

Keith S.

Yelp
As already stated. Dive bar. Cheap drinks. Questionable characters that are actually very friendly and interesting. Generally good tunes. Yay! I'm a fan.
google avatar

Charlie R.

Yelp
The place smells. I have not eaten here as I could barely finish my drink due to the overwhelming smell of what I can only assume was vomit. If the place didn't have such a repulsive odor, I definitely would have given it a couple more stars.
google avatar

Sonja D.

Yelp
The Palace is the place you go when you don't want to remember anything. The drinks are dirt cheap... I think I remember saying "$15 for 4 drinks? wow" I was so impressed I gave the bartender a $5 tip, like it was up to them. It is very small but not unwelcoming at all. The exterior throws you off a little bit and makes you think "what the heck goes on there?" well it's just a tiny dive bar on a corner in the NE neighborhood with live music and karaoke some nights too. Don't worry, there aren't any paid dancers that I know of going on here... just some neighborhood people looking to get a cheap drink on Lowry. Who's to blame?
google avatar

Tony H.

Yelp
I cannot fault this bar just because I do not enjoy (or feel comfortable singing) karaoke. The place is clean, the set up is nice. This just isn't my thing.
google avatar

Wesley H.

Yelp
Came here for a friends bday party on a Saturday night. Typical neighborhood bar. It was pretty busy, had karaoke and the typical NE crowd I would expect. We stuck to the nice large patio for the most part. Good people watching and there was no trouble from anybody. The men's room has an interesting sink that I've seen pictures of similar ones on the interweb. Not sure why a lot of reviewers call this place cheap. I was paying $4 for bottles of Premium. Not expensive, but not cheap either.
google avatar

Matthew V.

Yelp
Super rude bartender....there's a reason why every other bar in northeast is full and there's 8 people in your restaurant....get a clue....if I could 0 star I would and I most certainly will never ever be back

D T.

Yelp
Thanks Tood and Molly for the wonderful Christmas party. And Wain of course. We find the Palace a great stop. The bar tenders are awesome and friendly. They pour great drinks. I recommend the NE Palace for their Friday evening live music. I don't know of any other place that has live music of this caliber at 7PM any where else in town. If I knew how to add a picture to this reveiw I would have one of Wain in the Santa suit playing his guitar on the bar. DT

Dave J.

Yelp
Went there with 2 friends and sat there for 30 minutes. Bought 2 drinks. Literally talked to nobody but my friends and the bartender...oh and the cop who informed me that I was being asked to leave because I had apparently drugged a girls drink. Wasn't sitting near any girls or other people's drinks period. Literally the worst bar I've ever been to...

Lanaya B.

Yelp
The patio is large and some of it is covered. The huge adirondack chair is cute and fits several people for a perfect photo op. The new menu is excellent for wings etc. Darts is an option. The best part of the NE Palace is the music, especially Friday 7:00 - 9:00. These are world class musicians having a great time with an accessible crowd that loves them! It is not to be missed!

Bobby P.

Yelp
Place would be great still if not for all the **** hipsters that moved into NE because its so "cool" to "live" in ne now. "Oh has such a cool dive bar atmosphere! And theres 100 diffrent flavors of nasty backyard tub beer! Hurry honey, pack some extra flannels and beard combs. Were gonna pedal our old timey bikes down so we can be seen. Maybe we can get involved in some poor tortured groups strife that we know nothing about, or get in the paper for being so globally open minded and trying to get that terrible polluting recycling...wait a second...poluting...recycling plant...that really doesn't make sense...whatever! Who cares about the actual going ons or familys that will be hurt. As long as everybody can see how im just so opended minded and unique and better than you cus i love people more and...did you see my cool new xmas sweater, it goes great with this Hair cut that everyone has. Wooo! Im awsome!". God I miss my neighborhood. The real NE. If youra true born and raised Northeaster gimme a "Hipsters get lost!"

Mike T.

Yelp
This place is incredible. Definition of a dive bar. The drinks are cheap and you can get really good fishbowls. They had no beer on tap, that I saw, but certainly had plenty of bottles. The kitchen seemingly is only open when it wants to be, but if it's not they'll put a frozen pizza in the oven for you. Guys have to check out the bathroom, the sink is incredible.

Mike D.

Yelp
The smell has been abated. The owner recently did a little remodeling. They have solid bar food too. Just a great spot to take in the local NE scene. If your sick of clubs, uptown, and meat head douches, then stop by at the NE Palace. There are always some serious characters in there.

Erik T.

Yelp
This place looks like it may fall down at any minute, but that adds to the charm. Go into it knowing that it's a dive bar and there will be multiple people missing teeth sitting at the bar. The drinks are cheap, the bartenders nice and my group had a lot of fun talking with the regulars.

Felicia K.

Yelp
Monday nights at the NE Palace are a true delight for any lover of reggae music. A real community shows up full of good vibes and the bartender Tony is the absolute best. Where else can you escape into a positive enclave on a Monday evening! I never feel concerned going alone as I know that the staff is there and is always on the lookout for unsavory characters. I will admit that the bathroom tends to have a seriously disgusting odor, but I guess every place has an achilles heel. Highly recommended!
