"Northern Café has opened another branch, appropriately called Northern Café RH. As the name indicates, northern and northwestern Chinese cuisine, such as lamb noodles and lamb skewers, are served. Hand-pulled noodles in a variety of thicknesses are also on the menu. This Northern Café is related to the Monterey Park Northern Café and not the many other Northern Café locations." - Jim Thurman

The place is clean, and the service was quick and friendly. I ordered the Noodles with Soy Bean, Beef Roll, Pork Wontons with Chili Oil, and Spicy Beef Noodle Soup to-go. While most of the dishes met my expectations, the Beef Roll was at room temperature, and the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup was disappointing. It was overly salty and, despite the spice, lacked the rich, savory flavor I've had at other restaurants. On the plus side, the to-go box packaging was pretty good. However, I weigh the food quality more heavily in my rating, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. Overall, it was an OK experience, but I won't be ordering any soup-based noodles from this place.

1/1/2024 came because I was starving and I glad I did . The noodles are so delicious 🤤 I got Prime Beef Chow Mein and the entire plate was so delicious and tasty ! The noodles 🍜 were so big and made to perfection The meat was also soft and tender Also the chili sauce was not spicy but had a lot of flavor . The Sparkling Water white peach is a must try ! They had enough seats and everything seemed so clean and organized. Bathroom was clean 🧼 and well maintained Parking 🅿️ was easy Definitely come and eat here ! You won’t regret it . The waiter also was kind ❤️

The most famous noodles is the beef noodle soup. Why have added many new d8shes on the menu, it's not bad.

Google
I love beef noodle soup so decided to try this spot. Their broths are mainly clear as I like the dark broths more.. but it was still flavorful. There was an option of braised beef noodle soup but they gave us one one that was clear broth which made me think.. we must have ordered wrong or their braised is just clear broth.. 10 min of eating… they came and said that they gave us the wrong bowl.. we already ate it and it wasn’t bad so we told them it’s fine. They have different types of noodles! For $12 a bowl.. the portions are pretty big. There are also small dishes in the front which you’d have to order at the register place. I love the small dishes but keep in mind it is pretty pricey. I want to come back to try the braised bowl.

Google
The cold dish portion is a little bit small, but delicious. I like the interior design and the painting on the wall, especially the lamps. Lamb soup base 不夠羊肉味,compare to 附近的西安麵店. But overall the soup base is good. Noodles are so good. I love the noodles of 毛細.

Google
Their noodle soups are okay, not bad, but not quite out of the world either. I like their dough consistency generally but their flat noodles were made a little too thick. Also, do note that they have a veggie noodle option - I initially thought it was a topping and we had some miscommunication. I also tried their buns, which is very very good. I especially like them for their meat seasoning - it had some kind of seasoning in it and I thought it was a nice touch that sets them apart from normal buns. But their dough seemed a little soaked, so perhaps they have overcooked their buns or have let them sit for too long before serving. Their interiors are nice and their restrooms are clean, a feat that's not easy for the amount of people they have coming in and out. With that, I am quite pleasantly surprised. Overall though, I think it is good. I wasn't very happy with the attitude of the server when we had the miscommunication, but I understand why they misunderstood, so I think they still deserve a 4 star - would otherwise be a 3 star only.

Google
Alright, fresh noodles! It's hand drawn here and is well reflected in the taste and texture. Move it past west of the 405, and they can charge three times more for the same dish. As for the dishes, the dumplings are a bit over-MSG'd. The cold side dishes were quite good though. The level of spice tends toward the more subtle rather than open your sinus bold. However, you really came here for the noodles right? Do that. It's a standout.

Google
Try something new! Ordered with a QR code and it was very Easy. Server came by and I told her I had ordered already, couple minutes later appetizers came out. Some of the dishes were awesome and some were okay. Live to try new Cafe and restaurants all the time.

Yelp
We visited Northern Cafe in Rowland Heights for lunch today. It's located on Colima Road and Jellick Ave. inside of the GW supermarket plaza. It's right next to the Sunmerry Bakery. Parking spaces are plenty but it can be packed during lunch hours because there are many businesses plus GW supermarket is there. We got there around 1:20 p.m. and the restaurant is spacious with modern decor and some wall art. We ordered the following items for our party of 5: - House Special Beef & Tendon Noodle Soup -Braised ox tail noodle soup -tomato beef noodle soup with fried egg -veggies cold dishes combo (3 items): we picked cucumber, tofu slices, and xue li hong (Chinese mustard greens) -beef rolls -juicy steamed pork dumplings (XLB) -shrimp & pork dumplings -scallion pancakes We liked the food overall, especially the braised ox tail noodle soup, beef rolls, and Xiao Long Bao. The portion of the noodle soup was huge (They gave us a lot of noodles). The noodle texture was good. The Braised Ox Tail Noodle Soup was flavorful and delicious. Xiao Long Bao was juicy and the skin was thin. Beef rolls were addictive (I just don't like cilantro -that's my preference so I took them out). For the veggies cold dishes combo, the portions were a bit small. Chinese mustard greens were kinda salty and they didn't give us much of the cucumber. Scallion pancakes could be better because they were a bit dry. The service was lacking because they didn't have enough servers. Overall, the noodle soup was decent and I would give it a 4 stars.

Yelp
We visited on a Sunday for lunch, and the place was quite busy. My husband and I ended up sitting side by side at a window seat since there were no regular tables available for immediate seating, and we didn't want to wait. The restaurant is spacious, and the restroom was clean. It operates on a mostly self-service system--orders are placed via a QR code on the table, and you can grab bowls, plates, utensils, napkins, and water yourself. I ordered the spicy beef noodle soup. While the portion size was generous, I found the soup to be quite bland. However, my husband enjoyed it. I'd rate it a 3/5. We also tried the beef roll, which was absolutely delicious. It had a generous amount of beef and cilantro, and the roll itself was fluffy and flaky. Easily a 5/5 for the beef roll. Overall, I'd definitely return when I'm craving beef noodle soup or those amazing beef rolls!

Daniel T.

Yelp
Clean. Excellent food. Ordering via QR code was a snap. Service was super quick. The steamed dumplings tasted home made. The beef noodle soup hit the spot. And the scallion pancakes are divine. Love the cucumber salad too. Highly, highly recommend this spot.

今

Yelp
came for the food, left for the service. For two days in a row, I came with high expectancies of some long awaited tastes of home. Unfortunately they were quickly replaced drenched with bad hospitality. I highly suspect the waiting list at the door is just a decoration, and anybody that is polite enough to put their name on it is just a fool like me, because the servers don't even look at it. They just sit whoever walks in the door. After bringing up the problem with the manager, we got a nice "lecture" AKA = yelling in the face, which reminded me of a scolding from my mom. Thanks for that. also I ordered an egg in my noodles... also an egg for my moms noodles. No eggs showed up. Who ate them?

Dan W.

Yelp
There is a fat man wearing glasses in the store, who is said to be the manager. He has a very bad attitude and discriminates against people. Everyone must be careful. I will never go there again.

Alex H.

Yelp
Garlic egg plant - steamed, with garlic sweet and sour sauce, green onion Stir fried green beans -with fermented broad beans on top Both dishes are good for vegetarians! Also came because I saw they have fish maw soup, but no longer available at this location :(

Yelp
Okay I was not expecting much to be honest but this place is pretty authentic and so so good. We came right before opening on the weekend and glad we did. There were already a few people waiting. And then it got quite packed about an hour later. There are other Northern Cafes I've seen but this one is marked as RH so I'm not actually sure if it's the same thing or not. Got the 3 cold dishes with spicy beef, potato, and tofu skin with celery. The potato is so good here with light Sichuan oil taste and the tofu skin is refreshing. The spicy beef is a bit salty for my taste but goes well with the cold noodle with sesame paste as it didn't have any meat in there. The noodles had a lot more flavor than it looks and we were glad we got it. Beef roll was amazing. Literally everything here just made me say wow. My mouth is watering writing about this. I want to go again even though it's very out of the way for me.

Maria D.

Yelp
I had the spicy beef noodles with knife cut noodle it was delicious. I added two scoops of the chili oil which made it amazing. I went with family and friends and they all enjoyed their noodles. The steam buns was a pork shrimp and egg I believe . It wasn't bad but I probably wouldn't order again because I had to add a lot of vinegar and chili to make it good. It was just a bit bland for me. Will definitely be back to try other dishes. It is roomy and we got serviced immediately. They didn't seem to speak much English but it was totally fine easy to order when you scan the QR code on the table

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
My friends and I come often and have never been disappointed. Noodle texture from all the times I've been is the right amount of bounciness and chew. Flavor is also spot on for any of the noodle dishes you get. The lamb skewers are huge chunks of meat unlike most skewer places, so the price is comparable to the size of skewer you get. Parking spaces can be tight and hard to find during the weekend.

Jeremy S.

Yelp
My friend and I ate at Northern Cafe on a drizzly Monday evening. We both had the Dan Dan Noodle ($11.95) and shared pork and 10-count cabbage pan-fried dumplings ($12.50). The noodle dish had a lot of minced pork with a heavy influence of cilantro. I really liked the noodle texture and enjoyed the slightly spicy flavor. The dumplings had a great texture and flavor to them. However, my friend preferred boiled dumplings since he usually eats them cooked that way. We ordered on my phone since they had a QR code on the table. After we made our order, I didn't know whether I had to pay immediately after. After we ordered, I didn't see anything on the website that prompted payment. Slightly confused, I just paid at the front, and the cashiers didn't mind. However, looking back, I believe I could've paid after we received our meals as the food would've arrived after our order. I had no issues about the restaurant's ambience; nothing of interest to note other than that we received standard service. If I come back again, I'd like to try their beef noodle soup and side dishes, such as beef rolls, potstickers, and scallion pancake. I also feel more confident about visiting again now I know how to order.

Jenny V.

Yelp
Plenty of parking, can be pack during the weekends. The food here is quality. Very yummy and fresh. Love there cold dishes here. Got the spicy beef, tendons and cucumber. Ordered the tofu, dumplings, knife cut noodles and lamb skewers. The food did not disappoint. Very flavorful and yummy. Definitely coming back to try the other dishes.

Yelp
I decided to have dinner at Northern Cafe in Rowland Heights after taking the family to Costco this afternoon. We choose the House Special Beef & Tendon Noodle Soup, Combo: Two Meats One Veg, Cucumber Cold Dish, Braised Lamb Noodle Soup, Grilled Whole Squid and Stir-Fried Sliced Noodle. The noodles are freshly prepared, and every dish has a great flavor. I can only give it four stars because I have to take away one star because there are seven of us--three adults and four children--and the automatic 18% tips fee. In this self-serve restaurant, I get the bowls, water, and other items myself, yet I still have to pay 18%...

Yelp
Walked in Saturday about 5pm. No wait at all. I was very impressed by the brightness of the restaurant. Very high ceilings and pretty spacious. You sit down and there's QR codes for you to scan and order so no need for you to wait for someone to come take your order. We still had a waitress offer to take our order twice though so nice if you prefer one way or another. I ordered the spicy beef noodle through the website. They let you choose the thickness of your noodle - I chose regular since my first time. In the meantime, there's like a water/utensil station as well so it's a pretty self serve restaurant. Food came out fairly quick, and it was very good. I wish it was spicier or if I could have adjusted spice level, but it was very flavorful and had that really chili pepper flavor. The noodles were bouncy and chewy, you can tell they definitely they're made. Another thing I was happy was the portion side of the noodles! There were a lot of noodles in the bowl, but I will say there wasn't too much beef. The beef was tender and VERY good as well though. So very good bowl overall wish there was more bell meat though. Would highly recommend trying it if you're in the area.

Amy A.

Yelp
The braised noodles soup/stew is so flavorful, very generous portion that feeds two people. The squid is good but I wouldn't say it's my favorite as the sauce is kinda boring. I wish they offered deep fried squid instead. The place is clean and servers are attentive, the doors are open so it might get cold in the evening so bring your jacket.

Yelp Z.

Yelp
01/15/25 around 6:30PM ,the cashier women with glasses who help with to-go order is very rude, throw changes on the table ,not give on hand. This waitress is so bad educated!manager should pay attention.

Yelp
I love coming here! I frequently come here and do takeout also. I love the side dishes that they have, you can see them and choose which ones you want. The noodle soups are all delicious, they are actually pretty big portions. Typically when I order takeout, I'll get an appetizer such as beef roll, and then one noodle soup to share between two people. The service is great, typical quick and easy. I was actually surprised at the interior of the restaurant provides a nice seating area. Cute decor. I recommend a spicy beef noodle soup, I like eating the wide noodles for the extra chewiness. If you are not feel like eating noodles, they also have some soup that you can order that are meat and broth only! I love that they have this option and you're not paying full price for a noodle soup

Alyssa H.

Yelp
I came here on Valentine's Day 2023 and I wrote a review for my friends on Instagram and decided it was time to share with Yelp haha. The food was really tasty. Something was extra good that day because I came here once before and once since and it was good but not extraordinary. Since Northern Cafe has become a reliable place to get delicious Chinese food no mater which location you choose. The Oil Spill Noodles, WOW WOW WOW! Delicious through and through. Truly the star of the show! I think about her day and night. So flavorful, spicy, and delicious. The Xiao Long Bao was average but the house made hot oil (also called Chili Oil) was the best restaurant hot oil that I have ever tried and wow! You need to order the Xiao long bao just so you can enjoy the hot oil. Mama Lu's has better Xiao Long Bao but this was tasty too. The Extra Large Lamb Skewer. They are NOT lying when they said extra large but keep in mind you are only getting one! Unfortunately for my wallet, it was the best shao kao I've ever had. So tasty, juicy, and flavorful but I cannot justify a $7 purchase for one skewer. A one time buy but what a delicious one time. The Mala Prime Beef Noodle Soup was tasty and authentic but nothing remarkable. The restaurant was clean and the employees were nice! I recommend any Northern Cafe as a reliable place to get a delicious bite.

Yelp
We wanted to try Northern Cafe for some time now so it was an easy choice today after grocery shopping since they are in the same strip mall. Parking can be a challenge as there are many popular stores here. It is not a big place but I like the way it is arranged. Customers can walk up easily to the counter to order appetizers. Tables & chairs are close but not cramped. The self-help water station is there for anyone who wants a drink. Every table has a couple folded paper menu or you can order by scanning the QR code. Of course its food is the ultimate criteria to evaluate any restaurant. The beef noodle is very satisfying. The broth is flavorful. Spicy but not over the top. The home style fried noodles is okay but not very exciting. We also ordered a 3-items combo appetizers that is pretty good. We plan to be back to try other items on the menu.

Steve H.

Yelp
This is the first time we eat inside this restaurant since 2020. It seems the menu has expanded now even includes southern Chinese style foods. Northern cafe is famous for hand made noodles, buns, pancakes, wraps, yummy cold dishes, and dumplings. We ordered too many stuff this time A2 beef noodle soup, A9 spicy intestine noodle soups, Chinese pork bun, boiled egg, spicy beef cold dish. The noodle soups are very large portions, so they are perfect for sharing. Noodles are hand made and provides good sensation when chewing them. One tip on soup noodle soups is you must finish them fast or noodles will get soggy. Warning: A9 is in higher side of spiciness - not for kids. Chinese pork bun is like pull pork in a bun. Boiled egg is too dried and cost $2.50... Cold dish spicy beef is very flavorful and adds just right amount of spiciness. Basically you order at counter and they deliver your dishes, they do clean up. It's actually good setup but it's more traditional Chinese eatery way. Service is quick and friendly. They offer Taiwanese sausage which is in automatic rotating grill - I didn't tried as it will taste dried because they just constantly rotating on heat pan. Overall very expansive menu, but personally I feel it should offer more of northern foods forte in making specialty dishes.

Ji H.

Yelp
The receptionist at the check out counter or the take-out order area has got a bitter temper, he might dump his gloomy mood to anyone he naturally despises by being bitterly sarcastic to what you say when you order. At least that's what I experienced.

Mika L.

Yelp
One of my go to spots for a quick and hearty dinner with almost no wait. It's usually pretty quiet inside with no large parties. You order online through QR code, service is super fast, and you can get your own utensils/napkins/water in the front. I love this place for their cold appetizers - my favorites are the sliced beef, bean threads, and tofu skins. The servers are very generous about scooping your appetizers up. Their beef roll is consistently delicious. Other places' can lean towards being dry but these have the perfect pancake-meat-sauce-herb ratio. Their prime beef noodle soup is really flavorful but be mindful that it is really quite spicy. The meat is fatty and there's a lot of it and the noodles are great since they're so chewy. You can also pick the noodle thickness which is a nice touch!

Gina G.

Yelp
The food, the service, and the ambiance are exceptional. This is a must-have restaurant for me and my family. It is our absolute favorite. We have never been disappointed.

Jenny S.

Yelp
Cafe indeed! Super casual, almost cafeteria style seating. Write your name down on the list for a table, once seated scan the QR code to order and food will begin to arrive at the table There seems to be a counter where you can order side dishes to-go, but these side dishes can be ordered to the table ---lamb skewer: tender and although it was a little gamey, the seasoning worked well! ---hot & spicy prime beef soup with knife cut noodles: you get to choose any type of noodle you'd like! Delicious soup, chewy noodles, with yummy beef and veggies (although my dad did not think his house special bowl had enough meat) Will be bringing the hubby here next time!

Nery B.

Yelp
Wonton are really good ! Highly recommend also their soups ! Services great and also customer services.

Zijin S.

Yelp
Best noodle house in Rowland heights, highly recommend Lanzhou beef noodle and beef roll

Stephen K.

Yelp
Northern Cafe Overall Rating: 3.5/5 Overview: My girlfriend and came here for the very time and our first impressions were fairly positive. As many other yelpers state, the service here is not great. Our waiter threw the menu and pen onto the table we were sitting at. Nonetheless, he attended all of our needs. This restaurant is unique in that, it offers a bast array of cuts for your soup noodle dishes (knife cut, thin, flat, etc.) and the interior had nice detailed finishes such as the traditional lantern designs. For food, we got the hot and spicy beef noodle and the beef rolls. The noodle soup had a bit of szechuan mala (numbing spice). The beef rolls meat was cold, a little sweet, and the crispy scallion roll had a great crunch! Pro: - the knife cut noodles are fairly unique in their own way with each strand of noodle having it's own textures - the broth was not as heavy as we expected - the slightly sweet beef rolls balanced the spiciness of the noodle dish - bathroom was very clean - interior was clean and aesthetic - portions are pretty big Cons: - we believe you can find better quality chinese food in the area - service can definitely be improved - not that many vegetables nor meat - if we came at a busier time, service could be sloppier and the restaurant will most likely be a lot more dirty Conclusion: As someone who loves exploring chinese restaurants, it was a fun experience coming here. Although this place is a very solid restaurant to come to, there are better and cheaper places. The total spent dining here was $30 . We could definitely find places with better service and at least subpar food.

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Portion sizes here are family size!! Came with a group of friends and we ordered way too much. One portion of noodles is probably good enough for 2 really hungry people, or 3 people who are not so hungry. I only tried the lamb skewer ($5.95) which was pretty worth! The skewer pieces were huge and it was seasoned pretty well. My friends ordered their dumplings which were also really big and had a lot of filling. Cold sesame noodles were a bit on the salty side (probably from the sesame paste) but it was still good. We also got the golden prime beef noodle soup with knife cut noodles. The beef was really tender but the soup broth was not what I was expecting since it was spicy and a bit on the sour side. I wanted to try more but honestly our party was just struggling to finish one dish (since none of us were that hungry). I think overall the price is really worth for the portion sizes and the flavor is also decent!

Yelp

Yelp
It was my first time at the Northern Cafe. The service wasn't that great, we sat at the corner of the restaurant and pretty much got no service at all. However, I thought the noodles were really good! I loved the taste of the beef noodles soup, but for sure there is a lot of MSG. The portion of the fried noodles were gigantic, I ate all that I could and still packed a full large size to go box. They did try to double charge us for the cold dish, but they were nice about making the correction after I caught the error. Over all I think it's a great place if you love noodles. But be sure to check your check!

Yelp
Tomato egg noodles (4/5) + generous portions of noodles + tasty - noodles soak up the broth too fast Tofu skin celery appetizer (5/5) Scallion pancake (3/5) - thin and greasy Scallion pancake beef rolls (3/5) - meat is like pastrami Grilled intestines (1/5) - charred to oblivion - not cleaned well, don't recommend Relatively affordable and filling meal when you have it family style!

Yelp
The Dan Dan Noodles were really good. The hand made & stretched noodles had just the right chewiness. There was seasoned minced pork set on top of the noodles, as well as cilantro & long julienne cut cucumbers. The portion overall was very generous with a lot of noodles. We also ordered the steamed dumplings...yum. These were presented on round platter. These are just like soup dumplings as each contain juices inside so they have to be eaten with a bit of caution as it's served hot. Lastly, we had the scallion pancakes that are thin & flakey. These were delish with very mild green oniony taste. I'd recommend visiting for a little something different and yummy :)

Yelp
Salty salty too much salt Maybe just for people like salty food The cold dish of peanut is good. Beef slices have refrigerated taste in the noodle soup Will try some other dishes next time to give it a try

Yelp
This place is a fairly decent for beef noodle soup! Check through the menu and order through the paper they give you~ I tried the spicy beef noodle soup with standard noodle and let me tell you, they give A LOT of noodles! I wish the noodles were a bit more chewier, but they were not bad. I would say they give you about 4 cubes of beef and 3 slices of radish(?) but the rest of it was all noodles lol. I did like how the beef cubes were tender and easy to eat, and I enjoyed how this wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be! The broth was pretty pleasant and had a little spice kick. I also tried the pork bao(?) and the meat was pretty good, but the bun was just okay.

Yelp
We checked out Northern Cafe in Rowland Heights. Just wondering, why are there so many Northern Cafe out there? Are they all secretly related? Anyhow, they specialized in handmade noodles and that was what we were there for. We got the house special beef noodle soup and spicy beef noodle soup. We also got some cold sides to go with our meal. The sides were meh and we didn't care for the spicy beef noodle soup. Even though the beef was braised and coated with spicy oil, it didn't have much flavor to it. We enjoyed the house special way more especially with the knife sliced noodles. It was all about the broth. Overall nothing really stood out but it was decent enough for us wanting to go back. Service didn't exist but it was a good quick meal.

Yelp
Great noodle selections if you're a noodle lover like me. Nice portion. Love all the side dishes they have.

Yelp
Taste very bad, we had a huge order today in my office. The noodle were all horrible and the soup were incredibly bad...they didn't even stir well the paste in the bottom. Including the fired egg.. taste terrible. We all couldn't believe how they could even make noodle this bad. also we order pancake just in case, it went out horrible and hard, no one can chew it!! Avoid this restaurant if you wanna have a good day:(

Yelp
The quality of the noodles here is just as good as the ones at Monterey Park. As for service, there really is not much to say such that you sit at whichever table is available and then you order your food on your phone using the QR code. The staff does not really talk to you unless you ask them for something. Hopefully this is a one-time thing, but when I came here yesterday in the late afternoon or early evening with my friend, one of the staff was being a little unprofessional. FYI, I ordered digitally using the QR code and made sure that our orders went through before I turn off my phone screen. About 10-15 minutes into our waiting, the staff that I mentioned brought out two bowls of noodles and gave them to the customers who were sitting behind me. I thought that was weird because those customers came after us. Oh, and they just so happened to order the exact same food that we did. That's when I realized that the staff who brought out the food messed up. I let it slide because I did not want to make a big deal out of it. Another 5-7 minutes went by, and the same guy brought out my friend's noodle soup. He then came back out holding a bowl of noodles which I thought was mine, and he brought it to the customers sitting behind me. They said something to him and so he brought the noodles back to the kitchen. I started to get upset because I have been waiting for too long for my noodle soup. I went up to complain and the same guy told me that "they" messed up my order and will make me a new one. Another 5-7 minutes went by and I finally got my noodle soup. Usually, my experiences here at this restaurant are great. Yesterday was something else.

Yelp
This place is pretty big and it is always busy here. We came in to enjoy dinner on a cold evening. We both ordered the beef stew noodle which came out pretty quickly and while the soup was fantastic, I felt that the portion of beef included with the noodle was a bit too small for the high price that they were charging. To their credit, they did include a fair amount of noodles which was more than enough to share with another. For appetizers, we went with their Chinese pork bun which was pretty good but surprisingly very oily. We had to eat the bun right away because it was literally dripping oil and we did not bother with eating the lower part of the bun. Service was warm, quick, and friendly for a Chinese spot. There was plenty of parking in the plaza when we went but, I could see how they could get very very packed during the day as they are next to a couple of boba shops and a supermarket.

Yelp
I got cucumbers, tofu skin and pig ears (cold combo) and they are all super tasty. They also had noodles with sesame paste and chili oil at the deli counter so I picked it up and was absolutely impressed with how much I liked every thing I bought here. I would definitely come back for more. At the deli counter everything is written in chinese so I felt like I was taking a stab in the dark but it all worked out!

Yelp
ate here yesterday evening and it was busy as expected for weekend dinner (saturday at 7pm). service was still prompt, our party of 7 had a table cleared for us within 10 minutes of arriving. tables are a bit close to others so walking between other people is a bit tight. there is a self serve station for water available. food is amazing - we got the spicy beef noodle soup, beef rolls, fried dumplings, and another dish that had chicken, mushrooms, and rice cake style noodles that was huuuge in portion and so enjoyable. just a little difficult to pick up the noodles for sharing since they were so slippery but nonetheless super tasty.

Yelp
For another Friday lunch, Northern Cafe's knife-cut noodles caught my eye. When I arrived to make my order, I learned that the establishment had online ordering, with the link accessible on the take-out menu's QR code. It also provided outdoor seating with an awning on the sidewalk between the front door and the parking lot. The seating was food-court style; pick your own table and throw away your own trash. I ordered one lamb skewer ($3.75), one grilled squid ($8.75), and one bowl of hot and spicy prime beef noodle soup ($10.49). The lamb skewers seemed decently seasoned with cumin. The grilled squid came with a sweet glaze that contrasted the squid's crisped texture. The knife-cut noodles of the noodle soup were thick and chewy - not wet noodle soft, not rock-hard overcooked. The premium beef seemed to be of the fluffy, treated with baking soda variant. Due to the difficulties of coordinating all these dishes for take-out, the cumin lamb had cooled, the squid's glaze was unevenly coated and coalesced at the bottom of the container, and the premium beef had started to come apart (like how beef scatters in hot pot after a while). Ultimately, I can give the benefit of doubt with regards to what the table-service version would be like (freshly made and served items).

Yelp
[FOOD] Very authentic LanZhou food and very tasty! My family and I ordered the beef noodle soup, lamb noodle soup, pork sandwich, and lamb skewers. The meat was super tender and well cooked. The broth was delicious and flavorful. The noodles are hand made and nice and firm. My parents liked that you have the option to add a plate of veggies too since they wanna make sure they get their greens in. Highly recommend this place for their food. [SERVICE] Great! My mom is quite demanding (what can I say lol she expects perfection from me, herself, and her restaurant experiences) and my dad is very indecisive and they catered to all our demands well. We waited a bit for our noodles since they're hand made, and they made sure to check with the kitchen and let us know it was coming soon. [COVID procedures] Staff is masked and wears gloves, however some of their gloves looked a bit...greasy/shiny? Not sure if that's the glove design or they maybe don't change them enough...The menus also felt a bit greasy/oily and I didn't really want to touch them. Also the chopsticks are upside down in this little cup thing (see picture) and I'm not sure that's the most er sanitary but they do have disposable chopsticks so we ended up using those, and they do have hand sanitizer at every table and keep the door open too

Yelp
I was craving for freshly made noodles so we checked out this place. And indeed someone was working in the kitchen pulling, stretching, and cutting freshly made noodles. I had Dan Dan Noodles with flat noodles. Although I was initially told I couldn't have this combination, I was actually served this dish. And it was amazing. We loved it so much we got another order to go. My husband had the Spicy Beef Noodles soup with regular noodles. He didn't love it. Our cousin tried the House Special Beef Noodle Soup with knife cut noodles. The soup was OK but the noodles really stood out. They were soft, tender, and al dente. The beef roll was also good while the grilled squid and scallion pancakes were OK. The interior is actually pretty with lantern-like lights hung high in the ceiling. Unlike other reviewers who said service is not good, we lucked out and got very accommodating staff. The portions are large and the price is reasonable. The fresh noodles are the best. This is a keeper.

Yelp
Oh. My. God. The food is SO flavorful! I want to eat here again soon. The prices are a little higher than I'd like for what is just various noodle soups, but the flavor and how full you'll be afterward helps to numb that pain in your wallet. It's still 5/5 I'm coming back regardless. Get the dandan mian you will have a great day.

Yelp
My friend got the Dan Dan mien here. Overall flavor 8/10. Has that Szechuan flavor and isn't too oily. The meat is a little salty and the egg was a little burnt, but serving size is reasonable for the price. Interior was big and roomy, and parking is okay although the plaza gets pretty crowded. We will be coming here again.

Yelp
Not that spicy despite the bright red coloring, but great flavor, delicious cold appetizers, and a must order braised lamb knife cut noodle. We also tried the spicy beef noodle soup which was the spiciest thing they have in my opinion. I enjoyed access to the delicous smoky hot sauce in the back and I loved the cold appetizers. $4.99 for a large veggie, $5.99 for a large meat side, or $10.99 for one meat and two veggies. (Try the potatoe slices, so good and vinegary!) D thought the stir fried lamb noodle was not as good as the braised. The former came with more shredded lamb meat cooked into the noodles. The braised was huge sliced pieces of tender lamb, knife cut noodles, all mixed in a braised sauce. Could have been spicier, but delicious and served hot in an iron plate. A crispy order of scallion pancake was perfect as a side. Skip the soup dumplings, no soup to be found. Typical chinese restaurant service, but they provided everything you need to have a delicious meal. Came twice in one weekend, you know that means it's good!

Yelp
Been to Northern Cafe in Rowland Heights and it never disappoints. The noodles are always fresh and cooked to perfection. My go-to items are the Beef Noodle Soup with tendon or the lamb noodle soup; both of these soups are not spicy. The meat is very tender and the broth is very clean (not oily). You can also change the thickness of the noodles, but I find that their standard noodle is the best. Love that they have chili oil to add to their broths if you prefer to have it more spicy. In addition to the broad array of noodle soups, they have dumplings, skewers and side dishes. We've had the mini wontons in chili oil and the lamb skewers (Both are 10/10).

Yelp
The food was great. I like their hand made noodle. Yummy.. We ordered dumplings. It was delicious. But the price is a bit high.

Yelp
Northern Cafe is a Chinese Noodle shop that is recommended by many of my Chinese friends who lives in LA and it's a real gem. I saw they make a fresh Tor-Xia noodle right when I got into the restaurant. Tor-Xia noodle is a rare noodle that wouldn't find it easily. I'd love to have it so bad, but my Chinese friend said, leave it to her. So I better shut my door and wait for her to order. Everything looked very delicious, unfortunately, we had so many foods already, and we were because of the fried Roti wrap with slices of grilled beef, scallion, and Hoi-Sin sauce. It's very very good, I remember I had it before in NY and it was a lot saltier!! Beef Slices combine with a scallion aroma and a touch of Hoi-Sin sauce. TA-DA! it was perfect! Another order was a side dish which is a shredded tofu skin, with a slice of cilantro, and carrot with a hint of sour flavor. If I know it's this tasty, I'd order 2 more! lol My friend promised me to bring me to Northern Cafe again for my next visit. Can't wait for that! #director_eat_out
