The Best Pizza in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Northern Fires Pizza flies a little under the radar — it’s a tiny, takeout-only spot in Minneapolis’s Standish neighborhood (in the warmer months, grab a seat at a picnic table). But don’t overlook these wood-fired pizzas, made with a tangy sourdough crust. Northern Fires serves a number of Italian classics, like a margherita, a blanca, and an Amatriciana, but note the Midwest influences, like one topped with butternut squash and another with sauerkraut and smoked ham." - Stacy Brooks

I honestly don't know how anyone could be do anything below five stars! This is the most amazing pizza place where we've been to And we've had a lot of pizza. 24-48 hr sourdough ferment. Our gluten sensitive family members did just fine! The toppings are so flavorful. Local ingredients. Friendly staff. We took it to go, but there are a few tables to eat outside.

They catered our wedding and did an amazing job! Their side/salad options are so much better than your typical pizza spot which helps the whole meal feel elevated. They pulled up their oven and made the pizzas fresh so everyone got what they wanted hot from the buffet. Received so many compliments - truly such a better option than your standard wedding chicken meal.

“I had an amazing experience at Northern Fires Woodfired Pizza! The pizza was delicious, with the best crust I’ve ever had—perfectly crispy and full of flavor. Their curbside service was quick and convenient, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommend!”

We were traveling in the area and had to stop for a quick meal. The first thing we found was Northern Fires, and we’re glad we did! We had the Margherita and their vegan pizza with cheese. The pizzas came out within 5 minutes nice and warm, and the combination of flavors was perfect. The vegetables were perfectly seasoned and cooked, their dough was unique, and their sauce topped the whole thing off nicely. The smokiness of the pizza was just right, and the flavors exploded in your mouth. It is an understatement to say this is the best pizza we have ever had.

I don't understand how there are so many 5 star reviews. This place is solidly average. Not great, not bad - just average. But with high prices comes high expectations and this disappointed. We got the Blanco and Americanito? Flavors were flat. Crust was like cardboard. This is meant to be a takeout place and given how quickly the pizzas cooled, I can't image it tasting any good if you live more than a block away. They do have a couple benches outside. There are free napkins and water. Water literally smelled fishy. Not really any shade. Plenty of street parking. The front entrance opens directly into the kitchen. The place to order is right next to the door. This confused me at first. For $18 a pie (~$22 with tip - I have no idea why they even have a tip option let alone one so high for a takeout place) there are better options (arguably cheaper as well) a 4 minute drive away. It wasn't even that fast. Took like 25 minutes for the pizzas to come out. Based on the reviews, I really wanted to love this place, but was let down.

Really, really delicious pizza! Our group of five enjoyed The Kingfield, a Delecata Squash, and a Papas & Chorizo pizzas. Excellent crust on all three. We also split an order of grilled Shishito peppers and a Caesar salad. Great food! As other reviews point out, the ingredients really stand out. The service was extremely good. They certainly deserve the revirw stars they've received. Strongly recommend you try them. You won't be sorry!

Maybe I'm a pizza snob but I prefer a little thinner of a crust and more sauce. Maybe the round pizzas are different but the square slices i had for lunch had a really thick crust. It was extremely well flavored. And the lemonade was some of the best I've ever had. They make it themselves.

Amazing, local pizzeria. Woodfired, yes, but also sourdough, using whole wheat (at least, I think). Lots of seasonal and responsibly-sourced ingredients as well - including, at the time of this writing, a chanterelle pizza (a high recommend). Super tasty. Don't expect something exactly like a Neopolitan pizza. It has that vibe, with some lovely burnishing, but also has a distinct chew, flavor, and density. I think it's a dough particularly suited to their white pizzas, though I've enjoyed all of them. Awesome chicken wings too, which get a great char while still staying insanely tender. The only sauce option is a Buffalo-style, however (still good!). Fair price point for the goods. Really, really nice staff. Need more people to go here so they stay open forever.
