"On the Paul Revere Heritage Site in Canton, Massachusetts, Northern Spy is not just a restaurant, it’s a living history museum for food geeks. Co-owner, executive chef, and food historian Marc Sheehan interprets many New England traditions, including anadama bread and Boston brown bread. Sheehan dials back the sweetness of his steamed brown bread and serves it with smoked bluefin pate, crème fraîche, and pickled onions — it’s based on the combo of smoked salmon and cinnamon-raisin bagels, which he had “a weird thing for” as a kid and has turned into a professional signature." - Adam H. Callaghan

Nice atmosphere, fried provolone was very good. Drinks took a while to come out, we got our appetizer before the drinks. Baked stuffed scrod was good, scallop dish was too. A little pricey but not extreme. Side of fries and fried provolone were the best part of the meal

Came here with a large group. Everything was organized well. We were given time to order at our own pace. Food took a little while longer. That being said, everything came out together and was hot and fresh. Everyone loved their meal. I had the Baked Scrod. It was good.

Food was excellent. Server was very pleasant but did take a while to come back to take drinks order. I had the croque madame special & a Bloody Mary! Both were delicious.

Overall enjoyed our dinner at Northern Spy but felt it was a bit overpriced for what we got. The appetizers were great. The mussels were phenomenal and the Parker house rolls were to die for. The entrees however were not as good. The cavatelli was very chewy and the noodles were clumped together. It came with very little lobster. The duck had great flavor but both dishes were a little cold and left us a bit disappointed for the price tag. It’s a very large space which takes away from its atmosphere. I think lowering the lights a bit for the dinner service could go a long way for making it a bit more cozy/intimate.

Our reservation was for 6pm, we got food at 8pm… It didn’t take us long to order. None of the items we ordered should have taken this long, the majority of our party (5 out of 8 people) ordered burgers. The bottom buns were already soggy and the patty was burnt, they didn’t even ask how the burgers needed to be cooked. The dish I ordered was gnocchi. I got 7 gnocchi in total, 4 of them were burnt black at the bottom. The sauce had so much unground whole peppercorns in it, it gave me heartburn. The food was way too overpriced, especially for the quality we got. I asked for some bread to eat it with my sauce, since the gnocchi weren’t eatable. They could have at least given us that bread as complimentary for all our troubles, but they chose to charge us $8 for it. The interior decor was nice, but they did nothing to compensate for the place’s size, so it was super loud and we couldn’t hear each other. We ended up not ordering deserts, as we weren’t planning on staying there till the morning. This has become the worst restaurant experience anyone in my party had, so disappointed.

Where to begin - There is a history - ASK the staff as it is a true Boston treasure!! Wines and Cocktails were exceptional !! The menu was equally exceptional !! Have you ever ordered something HOPING it was good as it sounds on the menu? What do you do when it comes out and was MORE delicious than it sounded on the menu? The food was remarkable !! The Atmosphere, comfortable, friendly, and perfect !! The Staff were amazing to the point I walked out knowing staff names and telling then I would be back soon !! Truly a magical experience....

We are regulars at this place, but this is the first time we’ve ever had a bad meal and bad service Sunday, June 9 10:30 AM. The woman behind the bar didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. I ordered the turkey sandwich. The sandwich was supposed to be on white bread. It came on sourdough and it was nothing but stuffing a few dry shriveled up pieces of turkey in between but this was a stuffing sandwich and it was horrible. She had the spinach mushroom cheddar omelette, which came without spinach or mushrooms. We watched the cook in the kitchen. He didn’t seem like he really wanted to be there either. Something has happened to this place. The quality of the food has gone downhill. We were very disappointed. Won’t be coming back anytime soon. Just for the record, we think you knew you were sending out an omelette without the mushrooms or spinach. What’s the matter? Did you run out or was the cook too hung over to realize his mistake. It just felt overall like this place has just stopped trying. Get your act together northern spy. December 15, 2024. This is an update we went back. And we regretted it. They messed up my breakfast order. I ordered the eggs Benedict with Jonah crab, and it came surrounded by like 15 slabs of bacon and the way I wrote it down and he still got it wrong when he put it into the computer. Ever since they sold this place, it has gone downhill the food of the service terrible

You know how once in a while you go out for a dinner and the experience is so bad it becomes memorable? Well, this was the one. Probably the main complaint is waiting for the food for 90 minutes since ordering. Like I get it, it’s Saturday night, but 90 mins is still ridiculous. Also no acknowledgement from the server for the long wait. Moreover it was quite hard to be noticed by our server when we wanted to order another round of drinks while waiting for the food. Could it be because it was party of 8 and they get automatic 20% gratuity? And after all this wait we are getting salty soggy burgers, which were likely waiting long time for other food to be done, to be delivered together. Another person in my party got burnt gnocchi, which should tell you about the quality of the food their kitchen delivers. For the price we paid, it was quite disappointing. If you are looking for a place to eat, look elsewhere.
