Where to Try New England's Most Famous Bread Traditions

"On the Paul Revere Heritage Site in Canton, Massachusetts, Northern Spy is not just a restaurant, it’s a living history museum for food geeks. Co-owner, executive chef, and food historian Marc Sheehan interprets many New England traditions, including anadama bread and Boston brown bread. Sheehan dials back the sweetness of his steamed brown bread and serves it with smoked bluefin pate, crème fraîche, and pickled onions — it’s based on the combo of smoked salmon and cinnamon-raisin bagels, which he had “a weird thing for” as a kid and has turned into a professional signature." - Adam H. Spring 2020’s Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings in and Around Boston | Eater Boston

"For classic, family-friendly New England fare at a historic site This one’s quite a bit outside of the city, but Boston-area diners will be familiar with the folks behind it: Cambridge’s Loyal Nine team is getting ready to open Northern Spy at an old copper mill at the Paul Revere Heritage Site in Canton. It’s going to be a spacious location; in addition to a large dining room, there’ll be a garden patio and private event rooms. An open kitchen with a wood-fired hearth will be a focal point. The team has described the restaurant as offering “the soul of New England comfort food”; think prime rib, hot buttered crab on Parker House rolls, mac and cheese, and chowder, all showing off the bounty of the Southern New England coast. There’ll be plenty of kid-friendly options, too. Late spring 2020" - Terrence Doyle

I dined at Northern Spy in Canton, Massachusetts in May 2025, and this was a very strong five-star experience. Honestly, I’m surprised it doesn’t have higher reviews—this place is exceptional on every level. Located inside the beautifully restored Copper Rolling Mill at the Paul Revere Heritage Site in Canton, the restaurant is open, airy, and tastefully designed. It’s easy to get to—Lyft from my hotel in Canton was a breeze (in fact, getting around Canton felt easier than navigating Boston). My server, Devin, was absolutely wonderful—warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. When I asked for a recommendation, she immediately suggested the fish sandwich. I hadn’t been considering it, but I’m so glad I took her advice—it turned out to be the best fish sandwich I’ve ever had. The fish was golden and crispy, served on a toasted sesame bun with a big helping of coleslaw and fries. Incredible. I also ordered the house-cooked baked beans, the arugula and beet salad (a fresh, vibrant knockout), and finished with a scoop of espresso ice cream made in-house. Yes, I probably ordered too much—but everything was so good, I didn’t mind one bit. Service was fantastic, the food was top-tier, and even the restrooms were spotless and modern. My total before tip was just over $48, and it felt like a bargain for a meal of this caliber. Northern Spy is a hidden gem, and I’ll be recommending it to everyone. I can’t wait to return. There is plenty of free parking.

The food is good, with a creative variety of everything from flat breads to burgers to Mac and cheese and steak tips. The highlight for me were the SeredipiTea options (a whole pot is $7)!!! I also appreciated their zero proof (no alcohol) drinks! Very creative! I had The Fog, which was as smoked agave, blueberry, egg white, and lemon. I could have done without the smoked part. I think it would be utterly amazing without that, but the texture of the egg whites was unique. I mentioned this to the waitress and she brought me the High Tea instead! That was tastier (get rid of the smoke flavor and the other would be better though). The park next door is magnificent and I can’t wait to check out the adjacent adventures!!! Happy 250 years since your infamous ride Sir Paul Revere!!! Service wasn’t quick, but that may be my chosen time of coming at the end of lunch rush. My server was very friendly!

Google
Great New England comfort food. A bit on the pricey side. The wait staff seem less knowledgeable and prepared to match the prices. Wonderful historical building. If I return, I’d sit in the bar area. I prefer the more lively side.

Nice atmosphere, fried provolone was very good. Drinks took a while to come out, we got our appetizer before the drinks. Baked stuffed scrod was good, scallop dish was too. A little pricey but not extreme. Side of fries and fried provolone were the best part of the meal

Excellent brunch yesterday. My first time here but my friends go often. We hung out for a bit and our server Tracy, was phenomenal. She checked in just the right amount, had an awesome personality, made excellent recommendations and gave perfect descriptions of what to expect. Every thing we ordered was delicious right down to the iced coffee! Great experience.

We were a party of 4 celebrating a birthday for Sunday dinner. We ordered 2 salmon and 2 lobster rolls, with a cauliflower appetizer, 2 desserts, and a bottle of wine and 2 cocktails. Excellent food! Service was a little slow but acceptable. Waitress didn't clarify which cauliflower dish we wanted and brought the appetizer version, but we wanted the cauliflower as a dinner vegie. There was also a cauliflower entree too, so the 3 options are easily confusing, but the waiter should ask to confirm. We were fine with the appetizer, but it was much smaller for 4 people than the table side. It did not spoil the occasion, it was overall a wonderful dinner, food and atmosphere!

Google
Overall enjoyed our dinner at Northern Spy but felt it was a bit overpriced for what we got. The appetizers were great. The mussels were phenomenal and the Parker house rolls were to die for. The entrees however were not as good. The cavatelli was very chewy and the noodles were clumped together. It came with very little lobster. The duck had great flavor but both dishes were a little cold and left us a bit disappointed for the price tag. It’s a very large space which takes away from its atmosphere. I think lowering the lights a bit for the dinner service could go a long way for making it a bit more cozy/intimate.

Google
A cute spot next to a park. The decor inside is really nice. Even the bathroom is beautiful. Tuesdays are their Fried. Chicken Dinner special which seemed to be very popular. The building is historic and the upstairs is repurposed into a mini museum spot for free. While I really enjoyed my experience here, I would likely not order what I had again. The sauces were just okay. The corn bread had very little flavor to it. The chicken was extremely salted and the fryer oil seemed to be maybe a little burnt or old. My mock tail drink was really good but I’m not actually sure what it was. A nice lemonade with interesting floral(?) notes in it. It was a really great flavor combination. A beautiful spot for dinner with friends. Not many other places too close around here so you mostly have to come out here just for this.

Yelp
Had a great experience for Fathers Day brunch. Our Server, Tracey, was amazing with helping make suggestions for our celiac sister. Everything she recommended was great. Duck hash was just mid but the Tuna Melt, quiche and omlettes were delicious. Oh and the carrots - so good!!! Food took a little while but it was busy and she was on top of all of our needs. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Service and food top notch. The best clam chowda !! And that maple toffee desert is a must.

Yelp
We had a mini reunion in the private dining room. Our server, Taylor was outstanding and had the perfect balance of checking on us and letting us be. I asked the bartender which menu items were her favorites and she shared a few. (Potati gnocchi with lamb ragu was fabulous. All, around the food was so tasty and beautifully presented. Chatted with David, one of the owners, and said we would definitely be coming back!

Yelp
The history of this property is absolutely fascinating.. Paul Revere use this building to make copper siding during the revolutionary time period. About the restaurant... the interior is beautiful and well appointed. It has a very cozy vibe with a historical twist. The food was absolutely delicious from the appetizers through dessert. For the appetizer, I had a bowl of perfectly sweet and spicy chicken wings. For dinner, I had the beef tenderloin with asparagus and it was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The dessert that I had was so delicious and different... I couldn't put my spoon down. I will be back here for sure and I am so happy that my neighbor told me about this place.

Yelp
Dined in once and experience was fine. Their burgers are solid. Take out experience is a mess. I ordered directly on their website and was missing a bunch of items. Fried Chicken & French Toast supposed to come with: buttermilk fried chicken, brioche french toast, hot maple syrup, (missing) grilled preserved fruit, (missing) cultured butter (missing) Maple syrup from Jack in Westwood (missing? Maybe just additional descriptions but looks confusing) Stonefruit from Fairmount Fruit Farm (missing but potentially duplicate as well) Burger and fries did not come with any ketchup. Food Did not come with any utensils and there was not an option to select it. We called and they said the fruits do not come with take out but that was not specified on the website. They said we can come back to pick up ketchup and utensils but I'm not driving all the way back just to pick up things that should have been included. With all that being said the food itself is overall not bad.

Yelp
Great higher end dining option in a historical building with lots of character. Enjoyed a lovely lunch at Northern Spy with my kid. Sitting inside this historical building was a treat - beautiful brick walls and decor. Even the plates have this beautiful print on them. The chicken bacon ranch sandwich was quite tasty and the fries were so good. The lunch menu had a nice variety of options and the service was top notch. The restaurant is kid friendly with kid menus and coloring. They also have large private rooms for groups.

Yelp
Everything was great and we will definitely be back. The location was great ticket away off the highway I think it was Paul reverse birthplace or something. The restaurant is open clean and smelt delicious when we walked in. Omg here is outside seating too with cornhole! The food was fantastic. Highly recommend the burger (and I'm not eating bread but the burger bun was great. We had the steak tips which were super flavorful and cooked to perfection and the salmon which was also great a little spicy. Dessert we had the cookies and ice cream. Home made cookies melted in your mouth. We will be back!!

Yelp
I don't know what happened to this restaurant. It used to be good. It sort of has been on a slow decline. Now has hit rock bottom. First of all, don't serve octopus if you can't execute octopus. Tonight I got the octopus and it was as tough as leather. Terrible. My wife got the duck breast. The fat was fat. The "chef" did not render it at all. One of my sons got the burger. He hated it. Incredibly salty. My other son ate it for him because he eats everything. He got the tenderloin. Flavorless. We'll probably never go back unless there are drastic changes. We've been going there for years and enjoyed many good meals there. But our last few visits have been very disappointing and this one was the nail in the coffin for us. Service was good but didn't make up for a failed dinner for 4. Not sure how to rate since service and drinks were good. I'll go with 2 stars to be reasonable. The owner really needs to re think things.

Yelp
It had been at least year since the last time we went to Northern Spy - Mostly because it's price puts it in the "special treat" category, but we decided we wanted to indulge and spend money last night - I guess. We came here to eat more often during the pandemic because their outdoor seating is really lovely. The restaurant is located in the Paul Revere Memorial park, which is a newer and very well cared for park on historically important mill land, and hence with the beautiful Neponset River. This was our first time eating inside and inside is very nice too. Our waitress's name was Stacy and she was really excellent. Asked about allergies, made sure we knew what was up and was very pleasant. The hostess was great too. The food is spectacular. We got the slow cooked beef with mashed potato and other veg and the spinach and fava bean risotto and split them. They were weirdly both rich and tender - but in different ways? There were lots of different flavors in the spinach and fava beans and the meat was just cooked soo nice. We also got the sourdough bread with the sea salt butter and we left so happy. I like their line up of beers too. Though I feel like I usually end up with the Flower Child from CBC. We have brought friends here a couple of times and it's been a hit with them too. Someday we'll make it to brunch. Highly reccommended though. If you have some extra cash. The food and atmosphere are definitely worth it.

Yelp
My friend and I dined at Northern Spy earlier today for their Brunch. My initial positive experience happened yesterday when they returned my voicemail message after hours. Melissa ordered a flatbread pizza that was as visually appealing as it was flavorful. (I have the leftovers.) I ordered the Tuna Melt (on Iggy's Bread.) Delicious and nutritious. Each meal was accompanied by a small, fresh salad. There's ample free parking, delightful air conditioning, and very pleasant service. We'll be back!

Yelp
I would have never found this place without a lot of help from friends. It was a great choice the ambiance was nice For conversation but still had music in background. The food was top notch. Fish was fresh and flakey paired with couscous and broccoli great combination. Tried the stout braised beef with mash potatoes and eggplant and peppers, beef melts in your mouth. The drink special was awesome Senior bulldog and $4 dollars for each drink went to canton high school fun raiser. Staff was friendly and answered are questions. Will be returning, recommend you check it out!

Yelp
Plentiful parking and tables, Northern Spy has you covered if you have a large group! FOOD: We've visited for both dinner and brunch. The brunch menu is limited but there's still something for everyone. I tried the Jonah Crab Eggs Benedict which came with a generous amount of crab, potatoes, and salad. My partner got the beef and hash which he liked. When we visited for dinner, I ordered the scallops which were on the salty side. I liked the dish but wish they offered a lighter carb to pair with the scallops. SERVICE: Our dinner service was fine - it was a group of 7-8 of us and the waitress was attentive and great! I am knocking down some points from our most recent experience. It was a fairly quiet Sunday around 1pm and the place was pretty empty but service was very slow. We waited for a while until someone realized we were there and that's when we put in our coffee and app order. The waitress didn't check up on us at all after we got our food and did not refill coffee - we ended up getting coffee in small tea cups vs. other people had the larger mugs, but we were fine since we thought coffee could be refilled. She only asked when we were finished and ready to go. We noticed she did check on other tables and offered coffee but somehow we were missed.

Yelp
Cool looking building and a nice cozy interior. We had 7:30 reservations on Saturday and were seated right away. Our server came over quickly and took a drink order and then was gone for a while. After returning we ordered a chicken wing appetizer and a couple entrees Steak Tips & Sea Scallops. The chicken wings came out and were fantastic. Very messy and HOT, but exactly what we wanted. Portion size was about 10-12 wingettes and was perfect. We waited a looooong time for our entrees to come out. When they finally arrived we were beyond disappointed. I thought they brought the wrong plate when they dropped off the scallops. It was a giant heaping pile of corn with 5 quarter size scallops on a bed of something. I'm not sure what it was grits or something? It didn't mention it in the menu. The menu did say it would have smoked tomatoes and there wasn't a tomato on the plate. The steak tips were medium vs the requested medium rare, but we never saw our server (as someone from the kitchen dropped off the food) again until she just showed up with a bill before even asking if we wanted dessert. The fries were all cold and just not good and the pickled peppers???? Let me just say they do not belong on a plate in a restaurant. They were lip numbing hot. $32 & $34 for those entrees? No thanks! To many amazing restaurants out there to ever go back here again. We did order two cookies and I cream for dessert. Again someone from the kitchen brought them to us and our waitress never came back. We saw here going up and down the stairs near the entrance and eventually the person from the kitchen offered to take our bill and run it for us.

Rebekah L.

Yelp
Awful!! They gave us a terrible table. I went here for my birthday dinner and after 15 minutes of not being acknowledged, we stated looking at alternative reservations. Finally when I scored another reservation, someone came over to tell us the server was really behind on things, and asked if they could get something stated. I declined and we left. I won't be going back.

Yelp
I have driven by this place for so long but never knew there was a restaurant there until the other day. Unsure what to expect when my friends recommended that we went that, and I was pleasantly surprised. We payed the $2 for the bottomless sourdough bread basket and it was yummy! The drinks were also tasty and strong. I ordered the gnocchi and initially thought that they brought out scallops but I was mistaken and really enjoyed the gnocchi. Quickly became a member of the clean plate club. With a bug sweet tooth, I had to try dessert and ordered the sticky maple pudding. It was delicious and I highly recommend. No issues finding parking and the staff was incredibly friendly

Yelp
Once again Northern Spy (our 3rd visit) didn't disappoint. The Food was Delicious, Bartender was Amazing and The Ambiance was Superb. Chef Marc came over to greet us again. Starters Me: Grilled Chicken Wings. Him: Jonah crab cakes. Me: Hearth Roasted 1/2 Chicken (chef kiss delicious). With a size of Grilled Carrots Yumo. Him: Macaroni & Cheese "Gratin". Cake to go.
google avatar

Steven W.

Yelp
We had a table of 8 and were seated in a private room, which felt nice. Decor is fantastic with great lighting and windows. Menu had a lot of items that I would try. I had the duck breast and Northern Spy is the only restaurant that I know that serves that much duck breast for the price which was really worth it. The burger was delicious and flavorful. We also ordered the grilled oysters which weren't what we expected and didn't have much flavor. Service was good and enjoyed the overall ambiance.

Annathebride S.

Yelp
First timer. My friend had been there before. Food was tasty excellent lots of flavor. Especially the clam chowder flavors bursting yum. Service okay waitstaff came by a few times to check on us. With outdoor seating not one staff was out there if we needed service. Ambiance the worst. My friend made reservations for outdoor seating at 1 pm not until we arrived we were not told the kitchen was closing at 2 pm not 2:30 for a wedding and that they would be rearranging the seating outside where we were seated the whole time. It was loud and distracting with staff moving furniture around and communicating with each other about set up. This should have been communicated to my friend when making the reservations. Very disappointed and unable to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere as planned.
google avatar

Jesse L.

Yelp
After a few inconsistent visits, I tried again. Food had been between decent and yummy, but pricey. Ambiance is amazing!! On this particular visit, I sat at the bar, lots of staff flowing around behind the bar chatting with each other and occasionally customers at the bar ... I waited ... and waited ... and waited .... No hello, no menu, nothing .... 15 minuets later I walked out without a single employee noticing I was even there. NOT a good feeling being ignored like that. Not sure I'll ever go back.
google avatar

Keri D.

Yelp
Excellent! Really cool atmosphere, the food was amazing and the service was even better!

Julaine M.

Yelp
Nice Ambiance and bar. Food is inconsistent unfortunately. We were disappointed our last visit. The bar had a family seated with screaming children so we moved to a table. The fish sandwich was frozen fish, not fresh. I always enjoyed the cocktails but it's not the same and they are very expensive. Servers were attentive.
google avatar

Crystal C.

Yelp
The ambiance is quite cozy, old mill furniture and family room style. Service was just ok. Feels a bit rushed to leave after my meal. It was a full house on a pouring rainy morning. Servers were ok, could be more friendly. Food didn't live up to our standards. Price was high. The fried chicken French toasts looked and tasted over cook and triple fried it tooo much. Maple syrup wasn't served on the side so when the dish was presented, the French toast was already soaked and softened by the maple syrup. Epic fail! Burger was just ok.... Nothing special... would have gotten a better burger at shake shack to be honest. Home fries were good! Crab egg Benedict... one egg was fully cooked and one was runny??? I mean that wasn't done right! Fries were greasy and over seasoned! Salty and overcooked. Overall was a C-. Would not come back for the food. But maybe curious about the second floor museum or some sort.

David A.

Yelp
Average food . Service was mediocre. Ambience was very large and loud good place for a large rowdy group cafeteria feel to the dining room.

Leesa P.

Yelp
The service was exceptional. I would give it an A+. The menu was so unique. The flavors were complicated, and so delicious. The mussels appetizer was so good, they could have been served it without the mussels, and just the sauce they were served with, and would have been a hit. The chicken wings were perfect, meaty and crispy. I got the cod and couscous. It was outstanding. My boyfriend got the braised beef. Also delicious. We shared the famous mac and cheese. It's a one of a kind. Even the side dishes were creative and well conceived. Altogether, it was an awesome epicurean experience. Wished I had room for dessert. Next time.

Francis V.

Yelp
Always a great meal with fresh and local ingredients. The restaurant is located in Paul Revere's old copper mill. It's gorgeous inside with a large open kitchen and a beautiful long bar. Very cozy. Service is always super helpful and knowledgeable. Always get great recommendations.

maithili r.

Yelp
Went back again. The drinks were as usual really good but I think I'm cursed with the food here. I got the baked scrod which was very mild and honestly just bland. So changed it up to the hot fish sandwich which was dry and so fried, I could barely taste the fish. My husband's sirloin was good. And the server was wonderful - the manager also came in and checked when I didn't like my meal which I really appreciate. Just didn't have the heart to tell them my second meal was disappointing too. So to summarize, lovely service/people, great drinks but be careful of the food you order. It's hit or miss.

Saeed M.

Yelp
We had a reservation for my birthday dinner on 4/26/25 at 5:30 pm, before it got too busy, and there were plenty of empty tables. We had the worst table in the place. Right across from the hostess stand, where people waiting for a table watch you eat. The waitress brought us drinks (almost 10 minutes for a Jack on the rocks and a glass of house wine), took our orders, and didn't appear until after we finished our meals. My meal was baked scrod and fine. Not great, but fine. My boyfriend had the sirloin special for $51, and it was chewy, fatty, and cold. His au gratin potatoes were swimming in butter and cold. A random person delivered the meals, and the waitress was still nowhere to be found. We were not offered a second drink or asked if our meals were ok. We would have sent the sirloin back at that point. By the time she returned, we were already disenchanted with the entire experience. We came to the restaurant because of my love of history and was taken in by the story of Paul Revere. Do not fall for it. The food is not worth the price. The only upside was the hostess and the young lady filling our water glasses and clearing our plates. They get our 1 Star. Very disappointing. We have had better meals at the 99.

Yelp
Such a wonderful historical spot. The atmosphere is awesome, the food is amazing, and they have the best old fashioned on Earth. I highly recommend the Northern Spy if you are looking for a great night out.
google avatar

Yelp
First, there is almost no signage outside so you aren't sure where you are except obviously GPS is saying you have arrived. There are a couple small signs that you can see once you get closer to the building. The building and surrounding grounds were beautiful. Decor and ambiance were very enjoyable. Staff was great, food was okay. The server and supporting staff were very attentive and helpful and answered all our questions. We always had water, drinks, and they replaced our cutlery any time it was called for. Cocktails were okay. The strawberry gin cocktail was pretty good. The espresso martini I had for dessert tasted a bit watery, and had something shaved in it...maybe mini choc shavings? Just a a bit different than your standard espresso bean and didn't really add any flavor so unclear why they were used. Apps - burrata, broccoli croquets, fries...prob the best part of our meal. I got the scallops, which were a bit salty and the plating did not make it look appetizing, though it didn't taste bad. Unfortunately everything on the plate was very earth toned and brownish. It also had weirdly big mushrooms in the corn topping that felt like they should be chopped smaller to align with the rest of the topping. Also, the menu felt incomplete in its description of each dish. Examples: the scallops were served over grits...not common in this area and would have never known had I not asked the server a question that she answered and also shared that the scallops were served over grits. 2, another friend in our party ordered Chicken piccata, which was actually a full Cornish hen...not really chicken piccata. The server mentioned this before she officially ordered but if the dishes have a twist, that should be reflected on menu so you know what you're getting. Dessert: Choc chip cookies and coffee ice cream were delicious. Peach cobbler was watery. The first bite was good but then it just felt like you were eating watery soggy peaches and batter. It had a smoky flavor too, which could have worked had it not been so watery. There is no need to add any liquid to a cobbler...the natural juices in peaches with added sugar should create a thicker syrup consistency but it seemed like they added liquid because when you dropped your spoon in there, you'd come back up with liquid and no filling... This place has potential but honesty needs a lot of work. Felt like we paid a lot for subpar food.

Lynda B.

Yelp
We used to go to Northern Spy a lot, but both the food and the service have declined significantly. Prices are still high though. The bartender was so slow, we had to ask for our drinks several times. There was only one other person at the bar, so no excuses. Food was below average. We won't be going back anytime soon.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
My DC and I tried this restaurant recently. Between the two of us, we had 2 bowls of clam chowder, an order of wings, shrimp risotto, prime rib, and 3 cocktails. When our check arrived I was amazed that our total was under $90. I thought to myself, "The food wasn't outstanding and some things could have used more seasoning, but for this kind of value I can see myself becoming a loyal customer." Then I showed my DC the price and exclaimed, "See this is what I'm talking about! You best believe we're coming back!!!" I even almost gave her a high-five right at the table. Then, after composing myself, I looked at the check in detail and realized that it belonged to the vegetarian couple sitting next to us. When I let our server know she came back with a check that was over double the amount of the first. Then she gave us a free scoop of pudding for the mix-up. I wish she had given me a free drink.

Yelp
Loved everything. We had the double cheeseburger to start. Absolutely delicious and the fries were even better. Also got a wedge salad which was good not fabulous. Also shared a mushroom flatbread. Outrageously good it had a bit of honey with fresh mushrooms and a crispy crust. Service was good too. Will definitely come back.

Mark B.

Yelp
It was 2 PM, and they weren't serving proper meals...just breakfast fare and sandwiches. I had a cheeseburger, and the meat tasted like it was going bad. 6 people eating rotten sandwiches and some drinks cost over $400. I could have a better meal at McDonalds. The wait staff was nice but the bar was slow. I've been here before and the food was better. Someone else noticed that the quality was declining. I agree. There are much better restaurants in Canton with better food and lower prices. Say "No thanks" to Northern Spy.

Juan V.

Yelp
Where do we begin? Perhaps on April 18th 1775 when on that faithful night Paul Revere rode to Lexington with the news of an impending incursion with the red coats. If only I had had a heroic messenger of my own to prepare me for the battle that I would face when visiting this establishment... **The Fried Provolone is DELICIOUS!!**

Yelp
Northern Spy is a recently opened addition to the Canton dining scene and is slated to become one of the premier eateries in town, especially once Covid-19 is behind us. Opened in a historical, brick building from 1801 which used to be the nation's first copper mill, Northern Spy's team worked to modernize everything. From the outside, it's gorgeous and I cannot wait to see the full potential it will have once diners are able to eat inside. My wife and I decide to get takeout there for Valentine's Day and while we didn't opt for their special menu, we decided to go à la carte so we could try a variety of things. We kicked things off with their smoked tomato & cheese flatbread ($16) and their parsnip & cheddar pierogis ($18). Both were delicious and the attentiveness to the presentation and garnishes was impressive. The smoked mushrooms and soldier beans atop the pierogis were a hit. We also opted for the Parker House rolls ($7) which were very brioche-y and came with as side of salted maple butter. For our main we split the Green Circle chicken ($28) which came with a delicious brown sauce composed of mushrooms and madeira. It came with a side of baked bread sauce which was rather unique but it paired nicely. If you're doing takeout and get this dish, make sure to eat it as soon as possible, it doesn't sit well (we found out the hard way once our toddler refused to go down to sleep *sigh*) For sides we also got the Housekeeper's Kohlrabi ($7) which comes in a brown butter sauce and some hazelnuts. Oh, and we had two cocktails to go as well, which were $11 a pop and were terrific. Seriously the cognac-based Champs-Élysées was so smooth and with great notes of Chartreuse, bitters and lemon juice. The Last Word was also a huge hit with gin and Maraschino cherry liqueur, bitters and citrus. All in all, this hidden gem is off the beaten path, in the midst of an area which is undergoing a lot of development but is setup to really well and it will have no problem quickly establishing itself as Canton's top eatery. The menu is diverse, creative and does a great job showcasing a piece of history and the local ingredients and traditions... with a modern twist. It was lovely and the staff was very friendly and helpful during pickup, which was a breeze. The prices are a tad high overall but the amount of work and care they put into what they dish out makes it well worth it. I look forward to returning for drinks and/or food in the future, and hopefully indoors or on their patio.

Yelp
A MUST DO! 3 & 1/2 Stars for the Food. But an extra 1/2 Star because the place is so Cool & has such a Rich History! They have FREE PARKING here too! It's Time to jump into The TimeMobile & scour the Earth & take you to places from a different time that you won't believe still exist. We have set the dial to the year 1800 to a town that is located about a 1/2 an hour or so outside of Boston in Canton MA. We have landed at this beautiful old brick historic building. This is Paul Revere's original copper mill. Yes that Paul Revere of the Midnight Ride who journeyed from Boston on horseback to the town of Lexington during the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere was also a member of the Sons of Liberty who spied on the British soldiers. Although he is most known for that event, he was also an accomplished silversmith. After America became an independent nation Paul Revere set up the first copper mill in the United States. Business boomed in Canton which had access to a great water supply. Paul Revere's factory produced copper sheathing for the USS Constitution, the State House dome, and eventually, forged cannons for the Union side during the Civil War. Paul Revere's descendants owned the property until the early 1900's. Plymouth Rubber then purchased the land & manufactured various rubber products including tape, gas masks & inner soles for shoes for the troops. Then in 2015 began the Giant renovation project from clearing out of the land to taking down of some old buildings. They decided to redevelop the site & call it The Paul Revere Heritage Site which includes 9 acres of parkland. The Paul Revere Heritage Park is Free & opened in 2020. It is surrounded by new apartments and condominiums. Revere's brick copper rolling mill has been transformed into a new restaurant called Northern Spy. Northern Spy is the perfect name for this converted space because remember Paul Revere spied on The British. The Food we found was a Mixed Bag. The Scallops were just OK. The Burgers were good. Definitely worth another try & will get something different next time. But the physical place is Fantastic There is a nice rustic ambience inside but the outdoor patio space really shines. We enjoyed the outdoor dining & seeing the whole building & antique pieces from a bygone era. The staff is very friendly & accommodating too. This would also be a great place to come for cocktails. They are open for Lunch, Dinner & Weekend Brunch. It was such an enjoyable experience combining History with something to eat. Afterwards we journeyed over next door to the Free park with green grass & trees. We walked all around & relaxed a bit & looked at the plaques & learned some more detailed info about this historic site & City. And you should do the same. What a great day & such a Cool & Historic Place! It used to be, you had to have Mega Bucks & be really rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!

Yelp
This is a cool building and it has a second story, which I think was a museum at one point, but kind of run down now. The food was really good although a little pricey I know that because I paid the bill for the four of us. I didn't really like the drink I ordered and they switched it with no problem so that was kind of nice. The server was super nice as well. All in all, I would definitely recommend this place

Yelp
2nd time coming and first time we came was a five star this time a 3 bartender was more concerned with the regulars in the corner spot. They know him name he never told us his name. Then watched the owners or managers taking 2 Jameson shots?! Totally unprofessional! Never made eye contact with us to even ask how everything was. Food was good but service tonight was under par . I figure gonna go on chronicle step your game up!

Yelp
I went to Northern Spy with a big group for a business meeting a few months ago. The food was outstanding. I couldn't stop eating the salmon with crispy quinoa, apples and squash. I brought my family this time and the dish just wasn't the same. It was under seasoned and just had no flavor. The plate was dry and I didn't get any yummy brown butter. I wish it was better. My family and I were so disappointed. I hope it was just a fluke because I really loved it last time.

Yelp
Excellent experience here. Our server Roberto was so attentive at the right times and not ever overbearing. The menu felt like there was something for everyone. For appetizers, we got the burrata and broccoli, bluefin tuna with bread, and green bean arancini. All excellent and served on a variety of beautiful plates. The tuna was a standout for us with the warm bread. I ordered a special that night that was made with fresh pasta -- delicious. All of the drinks were lovely as well. I am so glad a place like this exists out in the 'burbs as I often miss Boston quality dining!

Yelp
Wings were bad. Shrimp cocktail was bad. Seriously, you should be embarrassed Northern Spy. Do you have a trained cook or chef? If so, they need to be replaced. The wings were dropped in a fryer, and so dried out you couldn't bite into them. They were not seasoned, just some awful sauce on the side. And the shrimp cocktail seemed like it may have been picked up at a low end supermarket clearance aisle... seemed like it was low quality precooked frozen shrimp that u barely let thaw and threw it on a dish. It was translucent and flimsy - gross. The Bloody Mary cocktail sauce was absolutely gross. Service was slow and below average in general (they weren't busy). Nice building and outdoor area.
