Family-owned since 2008, this West Knoxville stalwart serves French-Belgian classics — mussels, steak frites, and a deep beer and wine list — with gracious service. A go-to among local critics for date night and celebratory dinners.

Very delicious and the bold flavors you expect. Apparently on Fridays and Saturdays they have chef specials that are new and unique. Our waitress recommended we come back but suggested reservations on Friday and Saturday were the best option for those days.

Food was very low quality. The actual restaurant was nice, friendly staff, good atmosphere, but the below average food means I'm removing two stars.

Google
Absolutely beautiful restaurant. Everything was absolute perfection. Went for my wife's bday and it did not disappoint. Start off your visit with buying a round of beer for the staff and you will not regret it!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My father, girlfriend, and I had one of the worst dining experiences this evening. To start things off our waitress was rude and condescending from the moment we sat down, making the entire meal uncomfortable. I ordered a filet medium rare, and it came out rare—not once, not twice, but three times. At that point, I lost my appetite and told them I didn’t want it anymore. Not that it mattered, because the meat was so stringy and chewy that it was practically inedible. My girlfriend ordered salmon, requesting it medium well, but it arrived completely overcooked, tasting like it came straight from a can. The only somewhat decent meal was my father’s burger, and even he said it was just “okay.” To top it all off, after we were clearly done eating, we sat there for 20-25 minutes waiting for the check while our server blatantly ignored us. We had to look around multiple times before finally getting their attention. Keep in mind the restaurant is practically empty at this point. Absolutely AWFUL service, TERRIBLE food, and an overall HORRIBLE experience. Safe to say that we won’t be returning to this establishment.

This is our favorite restaurant in Knoxville! We’ve been here more times than I can count. Last night’s experience was above and beyond. Brittany, our server, was the absolute best! She was probably the best server we’ve ever had, anywhere! All four of us LOVED our meals. I HIGHLY recommend the trout!

We visited Northshore Brasserie on a Tuesday night and were surprised by how packed it was—definitely a lively spot even on a weeknight. Thankfully, we had made a reservation (highly recommend doing so), which made getting seated easy despite the crowd. We started with the burrata, which was a standout—fresh, creamy, and beautifully paired with its accompaniments. For mains, we tried the trout, which unfortunately was a bit dry and underwhelming. The beef bourguignon was pretty good—rich and flavorful—but we found it a little odd that it was served with pasta rather than the more traditional sides like potatoes or crusty bread. Overall, the food was decent with some highs and a few misses, but the service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and well-paced despite the busy night. We'd consider going back, especially for the ambiance and appetizers.

Google
Was wonderfully surprised at the ambience and enjoyed the service from Kevin (the island guy). Dinner was delicious and the steak was cooked properly however, they must have used a lot of MSG because my husband and I were up all night with our hearts racing, sweating and other gastro-intestinal unpleasantness. Unfortunately, we won’t risk that again.

Google
You'd never guess from the outside that this is such a wonderful white table cloth dining experience. It sits in a very nondescript strip mall on North shore. You better make a reservation because there were no empty tables on our night. A small menu, which usually indicates a place that knows what they do and do it well. Superb bar offerings, and a beautiful bar to match. Perfectly prepared New York strip au poivre, and the best ratatouille I think I've ever had on this continent. Perfectly balanced service: attentive but not hovering, knowledgeable but not overbearing. Yes it's pricey, but not out of line for what you get. Don't miss it.

Yelp
My. Favorite. Place. The Brasserie never fails. The food, drinks, ambiance, service... it's all phenomenal. My boyfriend and his family have been going for over 20 years and have nothing but amazing things to say as well. I have not gotten the pleasure to enjoy the Brasserie for that many years, but my boyfriend speaks of his high school graduation dinner, birthdays, and special occasions spent here often. One thing to always keep an eye on...their weekday specials.. Tuesdays are always a bouillabaisse (and half price bottles of wine - any bottle under $100), Wednesdays are pasta, Thursdays are dumplings, and Fridays are fish. I have yet to eat a special or anything off their beautifully curated menu that was anything short of fantastic. Their wine and cocktail menu has something for everyone. If you are unsure what to order or have any questions they are happy to help and advise in any way possible. Lance, the manager, impossible not to love and appreciate. Same goes to their entire staff. Location is not something you would expect, but once you're sitting in one of their super comfy bar booths, nice dining tables, or quaint outdoor seating, you quickly forget that you're in a strip off of Northshore. PS - I would recommend getting a reservation, as they stay pretty busy!

Yelp
Love this place! We come here for every special occasion or just a night we want to dress up a little bit. The food is great! Best French fries in town. The service is always top notch and just has a fun vibe. The specials every night make it fun no matter what night you come!

Yelp
A friend and I met last week for dinner at Northshore Brasserie, and we really enjoyed it. Brasserie sits discreetly in a Northshore Drive strip center, but when you step inside, it has a dark, moody, luxury feel. We were seated at a table in the corner, which was perfect for us to talk and catch up. We both selected Steak & Frites for our meal, and it was delicious! All in all a fabulous dinner, and I'm sure we'll be back.

Yelp
My daughter chose this elegant little French restaurant for my granddaughter's graduation dinner. It was a perfect choice since France is the favorite traveling destination for both my granddaughter and her mom. They love Paris. Olive received honors for her French studies. Christian took excellent care of us and helped make it a special evening for Olive. He explained all the dishes to those of us not familiar with French cuisine. We felt pampered. I wasn't at all familiar with French cuisine and had a difficult time making a decision even with Christian's help. I finally decided to try 3 side dishes and explore how the French prepare vegetables. My favorite was RATATOUILLE, which is a combination of squash, eggplant, and tomato flavored with onion, and basil and topped with Mozerella. That was an excellent choice. The Brussels sprouts were also delightful. They were different from the crispy almost burnt Brussels I am accustomed to. While not crispy, they were firm and they were covered with a delicious cream sauce. My husband got short ribs. Neither of us knew what short ribs are. I tasted it and it's a lot like roast beef. I think the best dish ordered at our table was a French fish soup. I considered ordering that but it contains muscles, which I don't like. I got a few samples of shrimp from my generous friends and now I think I would have been happy ordering that and a side of ratatouille and just offered the muscles to those who appreciate them. I loved their expansive cocktail menu. I wished I could order a taste of each. I finally decided on a French 75 for my first cocktail and our usual Bombay Sapphire extra dry martini with olives for the second one. They served the martini extra chilled. Sometimes you just can't beat simple when it comes to cocktails. I look forward to returning to explore more French dishes. Thanks to the people at Northstar Brassiere for making my granddaughter's evening special.

Yelp
We had another great time at the Brasserie. It can nip at your wallet but the quality and service can not be beat. Thank you Tiffany

Yelp
My past 3 experiences before this update were all 5/5 dinners - this one was a 3.5/5 overall. +1 - location and parking - good location, tight parking but OK +1 - staff and service - had no issues and catered to whatever we needed +1 - cleanliness - good and clean everywhere I observed +0.5 - beverages - good and on time -1.5 - bread was hard, tartare was a bit too salty, and my main duck course was burnt up. creme brulee was extra burnt on top. Will be back but was definitely sad with this trip. The friends I was with made it better.

Yelp
Graduation dinner for granddaughter. Christian took superb care of our party of 9. Had some great appetizers I can't pronounce. A couple of cocktails. Tuesday is half price wine so we had a couple of nice bottles.'I had the braised short rib. Excellent. Others got the bouillabaisse. I tasted it and it was also excellent. Crème bruelle and cheesecake were great desserts. Lively (loud) crowd and pleasing decor make it a charming dinner venue.

Yelp
Beyond amazing service and ambiance! The restaurant is really beautiful and easily accessible. The menu has French inspired dishes like escargot! Truly you cannot go wrong with anything here. The owner Stephanie stopped by our table and was extremely welcoming and kind. We loved hearing the story of how the restaurant began. The staff was very kind and seemed to all enjoy working there! We can't wait to be back to try more dishes!

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to dine, great French Onion soup, fabulous mussels, freites are are excellent and entries are always special, Northshore is a fabulous place to dine!

Yelp
First thing... Make sure you get reservations because this place is very good! Once you walk in you can you tell this place is good, every table is filled and there are always a few waiting! Drinks are very good, I got an Old Fashioned and it was spot on. Appetizers, we got stuffed mushrooms that were amazing, and they bring bread in a brown paper bag to keep it warm with herb butter, sooo good! Don't worry if you eat all the bread they will bring more and you don't even have to ask for it! That's great service! For my entree I tried the Butcher steak med well which had a Bordelaise sauce, It came out perfect! Oh the sauce, licked the plate clean! I paired it with truffle fries, bam...crisped to perfection and with just the right amount of truffles! I enjoy restaurants that have a great Vibe, first class Service and amazing Food! Until we meet again! But for now, we are going to celebrate our second grand daughter

Yelp
Totally understand now why this spot is always packed. Parking is tight and reservations definitely recommended, especially on a weekend. As of late April 2022, the patio is open as well. Off the bat, tremendous service. Such friendly greetings from the host stand and then our server was impeccable as well. Friendly and just the right amount of engaged. Our water glasses stayed full and everything with our food and check was timed perfectly. We were seated at a small, 2-top table in the middle of many other tables...definitely had a European feel to it with the close proximity to other diners. While we went for a date night, there were families with young kids and some folks seemingly conducting business as well. Given the price and the high-end quality of the food, I don't know that we will bring our kids here but it's an option! We ordered: -Duck Duo: crisp skin and tender meat, the most flavorful part was definitely the leg. We found the portion and taste of the sides a tad underwhelming. -Spinach Salad: really unique, warm poached pear that went so well with the blue cheese. -Truffle Fries: clearly fresh cut and perfectly cooked. These were tasty, although we didn't taste or notice the truffle. -Short Rib: my husband definitely had food envy, as my portion was large, meat was so darn tender and sides flavorful. The unexpected star was the crispy prosciutto that topped the meat. The sauce had a slight sweetness that was perfect for the dish. I just wish there were more of it! This meal was pricey. However, given the unique menu and the European feel of the restaurant and clear quality of ingredients, I felt it was justified. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.

Yelp
Great food and serve. The crab appetizer was awesome. The clams were wonderful and we had a great dessert

Yelp
Tuesday night Bouillabaisse Special lives up to the hype! They always make a great vegetarian pasta too.

Yelp
Tonight, my husband and I had the pleasure of dining at this fabulous establishment. We made reservations for two and was greeted immediately by the owner at our allotted time slot. We were seated at the perfect table for two where we had a full view of the dining area. Our waiter welcomed us and took our drink order. He recommended the chef's special, based on his description of the preparation of the "pork osso buca" I was sold! The pork was seasoned too perfection and so tender, it literally fell off the bone, no knife needed! My husband ordered the short rib entree which was equally as good. We shared the brasserie salad which was quite tasty and finished with the profiteroles for dessert. Afterwards, the owner worked her way around the restaurant to greet the patrons, she stopped by our table and asked how our meal was, we immediately sanged the praises of the chef and our waiter for his outstanding service! It was our first dining experience there, but definitely not our last. If you have not dined there, you're missing out on a wonderful dining experience.

Paul G.

Yelp
The food was great and service was friendly and prompt. We enjoyed our dining experience.

Yelp
Our first time here and the first impression was outstanding! The owner personally greets you when you arrive and seats you. Then, she comes by at the end of the meal to check on your experience. We loved the dark, classy and upscale environment of the restaurant. It's also quiet and easy to converse. You never feel like you're in a small strip shopping center. I liked the open kitchen behind glass. Our server was excellent. He knew the menu well, and provided very formal and unhurried service. The wine list is very good. (We wished they had more by-the-glass options though.) I had a California red blend, which suited my taste well. For an appetizer, they provide a piece of baguette with compound butter, and my wife and I spilt their Brassierie salad. The salad is mixed and had some blue cheese crumbles. The vinigarettee that is was tossed with was fabulous. It was a very good start to dinner. Speaking of dinner, I had the short rib with smashed fingerling potatoes and fresh grilled veggies. The short rib had a teriyaki glaze, and fell apart on the plate. It was cooked to perfection and tasted so as well. The veggies were crisp tender and complimented the meal well. We finished with the profiteroles. This is a rarely found light dessert. The perfect ending to a perfect dining experience.

Yelp
Arrived early and were graciously accommodated Beautiful and elegant restaurant tonight was our first time here Was beyond amazing. Maddie was our waitress She couldn't have been any nicer or more knowledgeable Refreshing! Have been to similar caliber restaurants where servers were not as well versed Brought our own wine Ok We're picky Corkage very reasonable As our app, we ordered the mussels Meunière prep. Fresh and oh, so tasty For my entrée, I ordered the salmon. Was delicious! The better half got Beef Bourguignon He thoroughly enjoyed that as well Finally we have found a Charleston caliber eatery close to home Our new favorite ‼
google avatar

Bernie O.

Yelp
We went here on a suggestion from a friend. Maddie was our waitress and took great care of us. She was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and preparation of the dishes. I had the beef burgundy (sorry, not even going to try to spell it the French way ;-} ). It was excellent! The better half had salmon, also excellent. We checked out the wine list before we went and didn't see anything that appealed to us so we brought our own. There is a corkage fee if you do that, like most places. Reservations are recommended, but we were running early and they were good about fitting us in early. This is one that we're going to put into our regular rotation.

Chuck T.

Yelp
What a great little place, the food was excellent and the service was impeccable. Steak Roquefort was incredible cooked perfectly and very tender.

Jill B.

Yelp
Tried to visit but even though there were at least 3-4 open tables on the wall that I could see (who knows if there were more since I didn't actually look around, that was just what I saw when I walked in). Heard the burgers were good but that's all it will be. Just something someone said once. Maybe they are good but make sure you call ahead or prepare to wait 3 hours since we got there before 6 and there were no tables available till 9. We are sit down, order, eat and get out people and we were super hungry. So I would say they missed out on business. Maybe it's COVID and they don't have servers? Who knows. We won't be back since we can't even get a seat or be fed.

Julie B.

Yelp
The best restaurant in Knoxville, TN! The roasted chicken with farro was absolutely divine! Great service and great food!

Yelp
Wow! We've been in Knoxville for 3.5 years and have been searching for a reliable restaurant to go to. It's been a challenge. Knoxville is full of chain restaurants which we are not interested in. A good cocktail, reliably good food and service and we are happy. Connors was the best we could find and that has failed several times. Tonight we ate at the Northshore Brasserie and it was everything we wanted plus. Small but not too small. Beautiful interior that's fun. The bread they start you with is outstanding. I do have to give Kevin a shout out because all waitstaff should be like him. Fun, explains the menu and is there when you need him and he does not hover. Perfect. The food....well, I can only say outstanding. In every way. And if you could possibly eat it all the raspberry sherbet is a wonderful way to end the meal. I've been in the restaurant business for 30 years and understand lots of issues and forgive them. But tonight? Nothing to forgive and can't only thank all the staff there because it takes a team to create this experience. We have a 3-times rule (anyone can have a bad night) and can't wait until we go back and hopefully have the same experience. Well done!
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
So came here for a dinner around 7. No issues getting a table although they do accept reservations. The restaurant is in a small strip mall so there's enough parking. One thing thing that was kind of weird though here is thE bread comes in little paper bags. Oh well. Either way the bread was warm and really good and came with this herbed butter that went with it perfectly. We got the marnierne mussels. They were good but a little over cooked as the mussels were pretty shrunken inside the shells. We also got the duck duo which was okay but I'll ultimately also a bit overcooked. Everything was I would say, a bit too salty as I was downing water the whole meal. The best dish of the night was the truffled pomme frites. Thin, crispy, double fried, and generous with the truffles. This was the best thing of the night.
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants. We tried the escargot for the first time and it's become a new favorite. For dinner I had the duck two ways-- so tender and plated beautifully. My husband had steak and frites. It was slightly over cooked, but had great char and the fat was rendered. Of course one of my favorites is their crème brûlée with espresso martinis to end the night. This place never disappoints! We also had a total of 6 drinks. Our Will was about $200. An amazing destination for a date night.
google avatar

Camille C.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant I have visited in Knoxville. I might be partial because I lived in France but they really do a wonderful job. The atmosphere is great & the different menu options make me want to keep coming back to try new things. As pictured,I had the escargot and white wine mussels.
google avatar

Yelp
Another place I absolutely love in this town is Northshore Brasserie. If you haven't been here you are missing out. This restaurant has a feel that takes you out of Knoxville. The owners and staff are amazing every time with excellent service and recommendations. Anything from steaks, cheeseburgers, to a delicious twist on Chicken & Dumplings on Thursday's to fabulous fish specials on Fridays. Go support them because they are another one of my favorites, and if you haven't had their poutine or pom frites then you definitely need some in your life. And don't get me started about the martinis!! Cheers!
google avatar

Melanie S.

Yelp
We were underwhelmed when we ate here and haven't been back. We had been looking forward to going. The decorations were nice and service was Ok. We ate the salmon ($34) and the Springer Mountain Chicken ($30). It was just ok. With a bill over $100 after wine, we expect a better overall experience.

Yelp
Amazing first visit for hubby and mine anniversary on 5/28/22. Our server Konnor was wonderful and friendly, never felt ignored even though they were busy. Escargot was the best we'd ever had. Truffle fries to die for. Duo of duck and trout almandine fantastic entrees. Make sure to save room for dessert! Wonderful crème brûlée for myself and profiteroles for hubby (I did not try since am GF). Cocktails also delish although the whiskey sour could use some work/sprucing up. Can't wait to return!!
google avatar

Carson R.

Yelp
Food was amazing, service was perfect, the place was outstanding. The cream brûlée is to die for

Yelp
Excellent burger and truffle fries. The service was very good and the atmosphere was very inviting and comfortable. Able to have a great conversation with friends.

Yelp
Northshore Brasserie has the best profiteroles baked fresh pastries on the planet. There profiteroles are served with a special signature sauce with icecream and fresh strawberries and chocolate drizzle. This was one of my favorite desserts filled with fresh sweet cream filling with fruit.

Yelp
Drinks , food , service is amazing! great place for girls to have a drink and just a great after work atmosphere!

Yelp
Incredible food and service. The ambiance is wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Everything that we have eaten here has been out of this world. It's one of our favorite restaurants in the area

Yelp
Horrible service. Almost felt invisible. Food good but waited over an hour for entree.

Yelp
I stand by Northshore Brasserie as a one of kind gem in Knoxville. It is so nice inside. Has an old school SPEAKEASY feel. It doesn't look like much from the outside of this strip mall restaurant. But when you walk in..it's pretty awesome. I highly recommend for a romantic date night or a celebration for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. There is a BAR, patio and restaurant inside for whatever you are in the mood for. The food is good and the steak is great. Their FRIES are wonderful. I like that garlic-y dipping sauce that for dipping. The French bread for the table is outstanding. Sooo flaky on the outside and chew soft in the middle. Whenever I have GUESTS in town I take them here. And the dessert menu is luscious. LUSCIOUS.
google avatar

Mengya L.

Yelp
Had an amazing birthday celebration here with my dear friend on a Friday night. There were many many people, even with a reservation at 7:30, we still waited for like 15min. Parking can be a little tough outside. The environment is really cute, our server was really nice. Don't forget to get their bread, so tasty with their house made butter. We got the mussel with a lobster sauce for share, the broth is incredibly good! We almost drank the whole thing. My trout is really flavorful, my friend's steak is really juicy. The dessert is a must, they had a candle for me which is really sweet. Overall, such a nice French-style restaurant in west Knoxville.

Jim H.

Yelp
I highly recommend Northshore brasserie. One of the best restaurants in West Knoxville in my opinion. Great service and the food is solid. There are not a lot of restaurants in Knoxville that offer great food and great service, but this is one of the few rare ones.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
We haven't been to this restaurant in quite awhile but it was a welcomed return for sure! The service is fast & friendly and the food is all high quality from cocktails, to a great charcuterie board for an appetizer, steak or mussels for entrees and the profiteroles for dessert is not to be missed. We will be back again soon!
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
The location wouldn't have you immediately think upscale, but Ive always been pleased with the service and food here. I would say the ambiance and mood would dictate a more business casual to dressier attire. I recommend the cold crab legs side; it was the first time I've had them cold and I'm a fan.

Gigi M.

Yelp
The food, service, and ambiance are incredible. Came here on a date night with my boyfriend and was blown away by how tasty the food is! This place is definitely a must try.
google avatar

Yelp
I have finally had Northshore Brasserie's dinner! Yay! My Yelping goals have actually been of some use and it landed me there. We came here as part of date night and well wanted to finish the year off good. (I know, I'm writing this in 2018, but I came here in 2017... I was slacking!) I'll just get straight to the point. Waiters were great, helpful, and understanding. The limited light inside doesn't do so well for older folks (not me) who can barely read the menu...but, it's the price you pay for romanticism. Decor inside has a big window that looks into the kitchen and can produce an opportunity of having a staring contests with staff. Apps: Of course we had to get some, we ordered the Iron Skillet Escargots and Mussels Marinière. The mussels were great and the escargots were just as amazing. The garlic herb butter of the escargots was just on another level and when we finished we just wanted more. Entrée: She got the Duck Duo, I got the Lamb Shank. And damn, the lamb shank was great. The sauce was great, and the meat was tender. The duck duo came out a mix of both, a little salty, and just perfect which was a little bit up in the air. Dessert: We failed for this portion. All in all, dinner was great. This place will be another spot that will be on our list to eat at again if we're ever in the mood for Belgian/French food. I would recommend this place if you're not looking for super expensive food, but a higher than usual amount.

Michael G.

Yelp
Fantastic food and atmosphere! Had great service with good recommendations, based on this being our first time there.
google avatar

Sandra L.

Yelp
Great mussels, bread, good cocktails, good service. Wish they were open for lunch. The duck duo is my favorite. The frites are large enough for the table of four to share.

James W.

Yelp
We love eating at the Brasserie. Food and service has been excellent every time we ate there.

Casey T.

Yelp
We've been going here for years, great place to grab dinner. If vegan, ask and they will accommodate. Service and food are both excellent. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Teresa Y.

Yelp
Highly recommend! Great food and atmosphere. There's not a lot of places with the cooking style and flavors like the Brasserie. This is one reason it stands out above the rest.

Yelp
Came here for a lunch buffet and I wasn't that impressed. The person refilling the buffet was rude. I asked what was what and he told me it was written on the board. Well the board was at the end of the buffet table. It makes sense that they put it at the beginning of the table. It would be even better if they put labels next to the food. There were a variety of options at the buffet but the dishes were nothing to crave for. It tasted like prepared publix food. The buffet options started off with salad and multiple dressing options then to fancier salad and grains. Proceeding on, there were appetizers, cookies and fruits then back to main dishes. It's a strange layout but I guess the arrangement was to fit all the dishes on the table. I ordered dessert to make up for the food disappointment. I asked to customize the order and ordered one of each flavor; profiteroles with vanilla, strawberry, peanut butter ice cream and peanut butter caramel sauce. The texture was soggy but I was extremely grateful for having one of each flavor. I also tried the french chocolate torte with peanut butter caramel. It tasted like the center of a brownie. If that fancys you, order it! I would come back to try their brunch. I think they can do better.
