Whew! this was a rough visit. My wife and I were in town for a wedding and visited Northwest Coffee Roasting Company Saturday morning. The space was nice and cozy, despite the chilly wind blowing at the time. From the moment we walked into the shop, we were not made to feel welcome. We didn't notice any sort of sign indicating this, but when we came in, one of the workers yelled out that only one group at a time should be in line, inside... Cool, cool, we can accommodate, but this message could have been conveyed in a more friendly manner.
I ordered an egg wrap, macchiato, and cold brew while my wife ordered a latte and one of their leige waffles. Upon completing our order, they let us know that there were a few orders ahead of us and there may be a bit of a wait. Again, no problem! I'll always wait for good coffee.
Unfortunately, nothing that we received was worth the wait. The egg wrap wasn't bad, but the tortilla was quite crunchy, as though it had been in the warmer for a while. My cold brew was wholly unremarkable, and my macchiato was never delivered. My wife's latte was fine. When we received our incomplete order after 20 minutes or so, we continued to wait for our waffle. After another 10-15 minutes, we went to check on the waffle to find out that the waffle iron wasn't working right and they had to fix it (at least that was how it was explained to us). After a final 15 minutes, a waffle arrived. It was fine, if overly dense.
Overall it was a rough visit, to the point that I walked down the street to get some better coffee before going back to the hotel. I feel for the workers as it doesn't seem like they are set up for success in meeting the needs for the high volume of customers this place receives. I only saw a single espresso machine and a single waffle maker (if there were more, I'll correct this), and there is no way they could turn out the number of drinks and waffles that were being ordered with that setup. It seems like a popular place for groups to get together and study, and there are plenty of large picnic tables that will be great for that, but it wouldn't be a place I would return to.
