San Diego’s Essential Coffee Roasters and Cafes

"This coffee shop in Sorrento Valley, decorated in 1950s Danish pop art, houses its roastery nearby in the Miramar area, Earning awards and national acclaim, the women-owned company partners directly with single-origin growers in Columbia and El Salvador. Its strong expressos and lavender organic lattes are a few of the must-tries." - Helen I. Hwang

Google
Great espresso! They let me do a single origin (it was actually the Wild Thing blend) espresso macchiato and it was awesome. The egg bites were tasty but a bit misleading, it seemed more bread than egg. The honey orange latte had a distinctively pleasant flavor albeit quite sweet. The music was nice and conducive to working and conversation.

Google
Very good food and coffee, with spectacular service. Gluten free options available, though the GF bread was just OK. Some pastries and sandwiches available, along with a few breakfast options. Overall we had an excellent experience, and are very happy to support a female run operation. Definitely will be back. Pet friendly, kid friendly, restrooms available with key from the register. Thank you for being here and for doing such a fabulous job! See y'all soon!

Google
Super nice place to have drinks, snacks or eat lunch. I had a TGTG order and it was super impressive. I tried 4 different pastries and they are all so delicious!!! I also had a Chai Tea Latte there, and it is pretty good as well. I also love the atmosphere there. I highly recommend you this cute coffee spot.

Google
I recently visited Nostalgia Coffee Roasters with my girlfriend, and we had a fantastic experience. The breakfast sandwiches were delicious, and the lattes are excellent. The Red Eye (black coffee + espresso) was some of the best coffee I've ever had. Overall, we highly recommend this spot for coffee and breakfast sandwiches.

Google
I don't know why the rating is so high, but I think this place is more developed in selling coffee beans than the taste of coffee. When I usually order Americano, I order espresso and hot water separately, have to check the taste of espresso to check the condition of the coffee beans, and adjust the amount of water to be diluted, and drink it in a mug rather than a take out coffee cup, The coffee here was not special and it was not a coffee extracted competently by the barista. The espresso cup that they don't use often had dust and hairs, and the cream of the latte was not good with bubble particles and didn't give enough time to steam, so the taste wasn't that good. I don't think it's such a special place at all and I don't agree with the 5-star rating. It's my conviction that the cafe of the coffee roaster should be evaluated as coffee, not foods.

Google
This place is legit! Super friendly staff and chill vibe. We bought some coffee to take home for our Expresso and it is 👌🔥as well. The breakfast sandwich was really good. Highly recommend I'd you're in the area.

Google
Buttery smooth croissants and the vanilla latte I ordered was rich and smooth in espresso flavor with that sweet vanilla taste. Place has tons of light for those who like to stay and work on your laptop or read a book.

Google
Cozy quaint coffee shop with top-notch craft coffee roasted in-house by Nostalgia. We had a single origin pour-over and dirty chai that blew our minds. They have an extensive food menu - the avocado toast is a standout!

Yelp
I stumbled upon this charming coffee shop during my drive from Sorrento Valley to Del Mar. While the location might seem unusual, nestled between businesses and an apartment complex, the interior offers a warm and inviting atmosphere with ample seating and a small outdoor patio. I love a coffee shop that offers solid breakfast menu, not just a few pastries under a glass dome and Nostalgia does it just right, avocado toast, egg bites, breakfast sandwich, salmon bagel and a few other choices. With such variety, everyone can find their perfect morning meal. The Morning Glory and Retrocado are a must-try. The Morning Glory is packed with flavor, and the Retrocado is a delicious take on avocado toast. My latte was creamy and rich. So I'm definitely a fan of this coffee shop now and will be visiting again soon.

Yelp
Stopped by on Saturday shortly before closing. This woman owned business is a bit tucked away, within walking distance of the Hilton Garden Inn. Pros: -they have such warm, welcoming staff -indoor and outdoor seating (love the natural light inside) -free parking is available in front Cons: -n/a Would love to come back to try some of their other options.

Yelp
First time at this place on a Sunday around 10am, not too busy and my order was ready after just a few mins! I got the new rosemary shaken espresso and it was not too bitter or sweet, but you have to mix it before drinking. The ham & cheese croissant was warm, toasty, and soft! Super yummy and I would come back to try their other croissants. 8/10 I want to try the matcha latte next! The hot drinks have cool designs on them :)

Yelp
Found this spot on the way to Torrey Pines! It's a gem and the coffee is delicious! Everyone was super friendly, I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I first became a nostalgia fan when they used to come to the lane field markets on Saturday and Sundays. Then they magically opened their first cafe in my same office park in Torrey Hills. Love their monthly specials, food is delicious and staff is always so super sweet and nice. Love their coffee subscription.

Yelp
Decent coffee from a women owned coffee shop! It's located a little off the beaten path in an corporate business area but the benefit is that it wasn't too busy and had plenty of parking. I came on a Wednesday around 8. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was really friendly. I got the drip coffee and a banana walnut muffin. They source the bakeries from another company. The coffee was decent and good enough to drink without any milk for me. They had either a single origin dark roast or their classic roast for drip options. Fairly priced overall as well.

Yelp
Nostalgia Coffee Roasters might be my new go-to spot. Immediately when I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome. The staff member at the register was SO kind and answered all of my questions about the menu. The lattes were all yummy, with a good balance of espresso flavor to sweetness. They added fruits and nuts to my oatmeal without charge!! The wraps were fresh, flavorful, and affordable ($8 and $12) for the quality. The vibe of the shop was friendly and warm.

Yelp
Tucked into a business area. Was told by a friend this was one of their favorite coffee spots in San Diego and I couldn't agree more! Love that they source their coffee from women-owned farms. Parking is easy for it being in the Torrey Pines area. And service was nice and easy. I had received a bag of coffee beans as a gift from a friend and I loved it so much I came back for a second bag. They even give a discount on coffee when you buy beans from the store and offer to ground the beans any way you like.

Yelp
This is a great coffee shop. I first ran into Nostalgia at the San Diego Food Markets at Lane Field Park on Harbor Drive. I am happy to learn that they now have this brick and mortar location in Carmel Valley. I had a traditional cortado with whole milk and almond butter toast with homemade jam and bananas. They only offer sour dough for the toast. I would of preferred a multi-grain toast, but what do you do? At any rate, the cortado was very well made. It was smooth and rich and perfectly balanced. The classic toast was delicious. The almond butter and jam combination were very good together. I liked that the toast came with a dusting cinnamon. The toast had a good crunchy texture. I would get this again. Service was very good. The young ladies at the counter were very nice. They offer inside and outside seating including free Wi-Fi.

Yelp
The only downside to this cafe is that it closes at 2:00 PM. Otherwise, I'd be here studying every day! The ambiance and decor is so cute, and I love that they have little jars full of their coffee beans that you can smell. Service is amazing too. Our barista was telling us all about their coffee beans and which ones were her favorite. We had so many questions because we're indecisive people, and she was so patient. They let you customize which blend you want in your coffee too! We got their vanilla bean latte with almond milk and their honey cinnamon latte with oat milk. The vanilla bean latte was a little on the milkier side, but the honey cinnamon latte was so perfect and comforting! You should definitely come check out this little coffee shop.

Yelp
We stopped by Nostalgia on a Saturday after a long walk on the beach. We were in search for a change of scenery and new shop. Nostalgia is tucked away in Sorrento Valley in a business park, but has ample parking and plenty of signage so you can't miss them. I ordered the Vietnamese coffee with almond milk. It comes in one size and was $9. I'm all for spending money on quality drinks and food, but was stunned by how expensive a cup of coffee was before tip. The coffee was good, strong, but too sweet and they overdid it with the condensed milk or whatever they're using to sweeten it. I'm not sure I'd return since it didn't wow me and is out of the way from my regular stomping grounds, but would recommend trying it to find a favorite drink there.

Yelp
Stopped by Nostalgia Coffee for a morning beverage treat. It was tucked away in a vacant plaza shared along with some other buildings but you won't miss it on the corner. The menu had all types of coffees and handcrafted drinks. I decided on a matcha latte and my boyfriend got a Red Eye. My matcha looked very milky but to my surprise it was so good! The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating and was also playing some R&B oldies hence the name. It was a quick stop but we loved our drinks and got a free cute sticker!

Yelp
To be fair, this rating is only for the items I ordered and picked it. I didn't try any coffee since it was nearing closing time and I didn't want burden the staff. I picked up some pastries and some overnight oats. This place is super convenient right off the main road in Torrey Hills. There is a small sign at the intersection where you can see Nostalgia. When you drive up the little hill, it'll located on your right with lots of free and ample parking. When I visited, there were several employees and about 3 patrons. Cute and modern coffee shop that's comparable to the size of a Starbucks. I got a couple of plain croissants, a couple of overnight and a sweet popover pastry that my kids enjoyed. Everything we had was good. You have to eat the overnight oats quickly or else it'll get soggy. The walnuts that accompanied the oats are separate and delivered a nice crunch. Great place to pick up some baked goods or snacks.

Yelp
Found this place through a friend. They have a fairly big menu of coffee, teas, pastries and food. Got their classic hot latte. Coffee was nice, smooth and slightly creamy. Reminds me of my favorite coffee places in Hawaii. So delicious. Matcha latte is the best. Perfect matcha flavor and great taste. Probably the best matcha latte we every tasted. Get this if you like matcha. Kouign-amann was soft, flaky and buttery. Great compliment to their drinks. There is plenty of seating inside and out. Bring your doggie...they are very pet friendly. Located in a business park. Hang a right at the flag pole, and you'll see it. Staff is super friendly. Love how they include all the names in your party when calling out your drinks. Very nice personal touch. I think this place will be our go-to coffee establishment. Definitely going to try their sandwiches next time. They sounds yummy.

Yelp
A new(ish) cute local coffee shop with great drinks! All the staff are friendly and quick to offer suggestions if you're indecisive. The Caramel latte in particular was delicious. Overall recommend stopping in for an iced beverage or coffee if you're in the area.

Yelp
Just good coffee. Everything is light toast which, when done well, allows the natural sugars of the coffee come out. Even their brewed coffee is excellent. The folks I met knew their coffee, cared that you enjoyed it, and made my visit just enjoyable. One clue with how much they care is that for the pour over, they use a Fellow Shimmy. I hadn't seen that used in a coffee shop!
google avatar

Hanna L.

Yelp
Welcoming Cafe in a corporate area. They had a lot of coffee variation with options for alternative milks. We just tried regular whole milk latte and cold brew. Both were high quality
google avatar

Michael Y.

Yelp
Great variety of options for drinks, food and even merch all tucked away in a small corner of a building complex, so it is hard to see it from the street. All of their coffees are delicious and their service is excellent. The ambiance is fantastic. There is outdoor seating as well. Their Mocha Latte and their Salmon Lox Bagel were perfectly made and delicious. Both were one of the best I've tasted.

Yelp
I love this hidden gem near Torrey Pines - it's my goto after a hike. I dig their Morning Glory breakfast sandwich and diverse coffee menu. The staff are super chill and nice. Great place to work, AC and mellow music inside and a patio. Yes, there is wifi too :)
google avatar

Yelp
Cool little chill spot that opened up next to our apartment. Residents get 20% off. Great coffee and amazing crescents. I lowkey think something wrong with their ice machine though lmao

Yelp
Fantastic local coffee shop and roaster. Nostalgia is a woman-owned company that cares deeply about sustainability, giving back to their farmers and community, and offering the best coffee available. Their roastery is located nearby in San Diego. This is their cafe, which delivers! We ordered via Yelp, and our order was brought right to our nearby hotel. My husband got an Iced Latte, and I a Cappuccino with oat milk. Both were expertly crafted, and the espresso was delicious. Bold, full bodied, not overly floral or acidic. Just perfect drinks, even when ordered via delivery. "The GOAT" was a lovely sweet and savory toast, featuring high quality fresh bread, topped with ample tangy goat cheese, arugula, and house made jam. I am unsure of the source of their baked goods, but the Kouign Amann was exceptional as well. 10/10.

Yelp
All the nice things I have heard about Nostalgia Coffee Roasters were true! I got to know this coffee shop thanks to some colleagues who put it in the list of favorites. The only issue I had is that every time I was on my way there I realized they close at 2 pm. They are located in some sort of companies buildings setup and unless you hear from others or search on Yelp...not really a place that is on your usual path. I like the decor a lot. To me, that is as equally important as the flavor of the coffee or the quality of their food. I like to support women owned companies and this is one of them. The people working there make sure you feel comfortable and they are fast in serving too. I loved my avocado toast and cappuccino a lot, and value the flowers at the table and the layout. Also, it was interesting to see magazines related to the world of coffee, so I left a bit more educated too!

Yelp
Came by do some work and tried the iced vanilla latte ! The vanilla is not overwhelming and adds just a hint of sweetness to the creamy latte. It did cost $6 so not cheap but it was good. There was more seating than expected! Inside there are 2 tables that fit 3 people each, a long table that would fit 8 or maybe even more, and a bar with 4 seats. There are two outlets, one next to the end of the bar and one at the end of the long table (I gotchu). Wifi was fast and staff were so friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Women owned that gives 5% to the farmers! The latte and cold brew is a must! The baristas are great and helpful in what you are after.
google avatar

Yelp
I like this cafe and I come here every morning to get a nitro cold brew which I enjoy. The staff here are always super friendly and welcoming. I have not tried their espresso based drinks so I can't really say anything about those and I do tend to be extra picky when it comes to that. Additionally they serve a variety of pastries including kouign amann which was lovely. Great addition to the Sorrento Valley :)

Inna Z.

Yelp
Excellent coffee and service. We enjoyed breakfast with avocado toast and a salmon bagel. The salmon on the bagel was a bit sparse but good flavor for both. Ambiance is simple but nice. Lots of people using the cafe for work
google avatar

Jenna V.

Yelp
I got a Madagascar vanilla iced latte half sweet with oatmilk. I enjoyed it. Drink came out in a reasonable amount of time. Not a whole lot of seating inside, but I took my drink for to go anyway. Worth a try if in the area.

Brianna Y.

Yelp
The coffee and pastry were delicious!! However it was very slow and we went at a dead time and it was quite expensive compared to other coffee shops we frequent. I would definitely go back
google avatar

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Great neighborhood coffee and breakfast/lunch spot! Love being able to do a morning walk with this in the middle
google avatar

Namana R.

Yelp
Ordered an iced organic brown sugar latte! Perfect amount of sweetness and flavor - not too overbearing. Came here on a Saturday afternoon, plenty of parking and service was wonderful. Lots of people studying or hanging out. Would def rec'd
google avatar

Jacob S.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops! Great selection of traditional and seasonal drinks. And you have to try their sandwiches and avocado toast. Every thing I've had has been so delicious! Always super friendly and fast too. Love having this place in my neighborhood.
google avatar

Dining D.

Yelp
Great cappuccino and avocado toast. Nice staff. I'll be back tomorrow to try new things.
google avatar

Sophia G.

Yelp
Wow this place surpassed our expectations! We were traveling and didn't want the nasty hotel coffee. Yelp helped us find this gem. It wasn't hard to find the location or parking. I ordered the organic caramel latte with almond milk and it blew me away! That says a lot because I'm a little picky. They made it with just the right amount of sweetness and caffeine. We're already planning on returning and trying something new. Huge fans!
google avatar

Alan T.

Yelp
Great coffee spot. If you buy beans here, there will be discounts on coffee! The breakfast sandwiches are excellent and they participate with Too Good To Go to reduce food waste.
google avatar

Gabbie B.

Yelp
I wanted to add a few more photos to my previous review! I also recommend getting an iced vanilla latte with oatmilk :) They are consistently great!
google avatar

Noor A.

Yelp
This place is awesome! It's so convenient if you work in the area and the coffee is great. The employees are always so kind and welcoming. The food and drinks are fresh and it's such a cute little spot to have lunch or a quick coffee break. I love stopping by and getting a vanilla latte with oat milk! Also their pastries are amazing!!

Griselda M.

Yelp
I love coming here ! My favorite is either iced or hot Madagascar vanilla latte. I do want to point out the Jill was killing it this morning while it was really busy and handling everything on her own! Keep it up guys!
google avatar

Kailee P.

Yelp
I've been here twice now. The first time I got a vanilla latte but it had a very strong licorice taste so I wasn't a fan. The second time I went I got the maple cardamom latte and it was really good. My partner said the cold brew was delicious. We are happy to have a coffee place within walking distance
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Hot organic Vanilla Latte is to die for! People weren't kidding on the reviews posted here. Had to try it. Glad I got a 12oz!

Scott B.

Yelp
I'm an espresso snob and they served me the best espresso I have had in a long time. They offer a single-origin espresso and it is absolutely worth getting. They have a Slayer espresso machine and obviously know how to use it, because the espresso is smooth and delicious. My daughter had an iced latte and also thought it was great, but that's easy. Service was fast and friendly and the place was cozier than one would expect given the rather sterile location.
google avatar

Eriks B.

Yelp
Love love love. By far my favorite coffee place ever. My favorites are the Americano, Red Eye, Aztec Mocha, and Mocha The staff is pretty awesome too.
google avatar

Macneil S.

Yelp
This is a great place; an oasis in an otherwise boring business park area! They have plenty of vegan options and are good for breakfast and lunch. And there's a Pokémon Go stop in range, so you can play while waiting for your latte. All of the staff is super friendly and they take pride in their work.

John J.

Yelp
This small coffee shop had a great ambiance and delicious breakfast options. The chocolate chip cookie is one of the best I ever had.

Alejandra T.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way back home to LA. The breakfast sandwich was divine!! The brown butter chocolate chip cookie was also amazing! We took some to go. I got a vanilla decaf latte with oatmilk also very very good. Highly recommend
google avatar

Val F.

Yelp
Service was great. Ordered a Vietnamese thinking it would be strong like everywhere else but no it was so milky and creamy. Couldn't taste the coffee at all. Staff was friendly but I won't be back in any rush to pay 8$ for a milky coffee anytime soon. We always try new coffee spots when we come to SD and this was next on our list.

Cynthia R.

Yelp
Nice cup of coffee in a nice place. Avocado toast looked awesome. I might get that next time.
google avatar

Sanford P.

Yelp
Wonderful coffee, excellent pastry's. Best breakfast sandwiches I've had. The morning glory is my favorite. Located in an office park. Simply divine. Highly recommend
google avatar

natalie l.

Yelp
Our weekend spot! Best coffee shop Bear agrees- says they have the best pup cups in town!
google avatar

Brad M.

Yelp
Fantastic coffee, they know their beans and methods if you actually like coffee this is your place.

Karen F.

Yelp
Excellent pour over coffee and pastries. Glad to support this woman owned company that gives back to the farmers they source their coffee from.
