The Ultimate Guide to Mexican Antojitos in Los Angeles - Eater LA

"In January 2023 they opened Los Angeles’s only Coahuila-style gordita shop. The Chios have brightened up the small Lakewood mall space with bone white walls, adding cactus green trim proudly representing Comarca Lagunera’s dessert and naturally, an abundance of succulents and cacti." - Bill Esparza

EXCELLENT!!!!Amazing! A must! The Nostalgia Gorditas restaurant has something for everyone! Kids and adult-friendly. We ordered Gorditas, Tacos, Burrito, kids plate: It was to die for! It was a generous portion, fresh and homemade. Thanks for a wonderful meal! This is now our Mexican food stop. Always worth the place

Google
Don’t listen to the haters in the reviews! This is the BEST Authentic Mexican food! I order the Chile Relleno plate with Bistek. My favorite!!! I crave it all the time! Everything is made fresh daily! The owners and staff are amazing and very friendly. Highly recommend! 👏

Google
I praise the place for their excellent customer service. Third time here and they make me feel welcomed. Each time I try something different from their menu. Their warmth makes me feel comfortable to eat inside of their clean establishment and they also have outside seating which is nice. Now let's talk about the food. The 3 times I've been there I got their chicken tinga. Their chicken Tinga is well marinated well season and it is very savory. The juice from the chicken Tinga drops in every bite. It also has a nice kick. You can try the chicken Tinga in a gordita, but yo, it goes crazy on the quesadilla. Also there sopita is a must have. You must also try there bistec Gordita, and they're green chilaquiles. And you know I couldn't leave without their churros, which go insanely good after eating all the delicious food.

Google
Where do we start? 🤔 The food is great! Real home made flavor, we had two gorditas each and were not enough, we wanted more 😁 The place is not too big but very clean and has outdoor seating too.

Leslie Young

Google
The gorditas were so tasty and they were grilled to order. I had the bistec rancheros and chicharron, and they really hit the spot. Service was friendly and efficient. My plate was ready in about five minutes, but the server brought out chips right after I placed the order. The indoor dining area was spacious and clean. Parking was plentiful.

Google
The food is absolutely delicious and the family that owns the business do a great job.. they've turned that location into a very sweet and charming delicious spot 💚

Google
Nice and friendly service. The food was great, and the refried beans were amazing. I had the bean and cheese gordita and the green chiliquiles.

🇲🇽 COAHUILA MÉXICO (via Eat the World Los Angeles) - A vendor we initially enjoyed at Sara's Market in East Los Angeles has opened up a shiny new bricks and mortar in the Harbor city of Lakewood. They are still offering their Torreón, Coahuila-style flour gorditas and an expanded menu of guisados to stuff them with, but now you can also get tacos on flour tortillas, burritos, and breakfasts. Tried a plate of eight just to make sure they were still flying. They are.

Yelp
A new favorite spot in Lakewood! Found out about them after they catered for a lecture and honestly I couldn't get them off my mind until I went back a few times. I'm still thinking about them tbh. Not sure how to describe a Gordita other than I want to say kind of like a Pupusa, which I know it's a different food culture so please don't cancel me. It's just the best way to describe them to those like me who had not heard of gorditas. Bomb dot com! In total Ive had the pork, pork belly, beef, chicken, potato, and green squash and corn. All were amazing. It's a place I can't bring my mom as she is a vegetarian and LOVES food of the Latin flavor. One of the best things about Nostalgia Gorditas is their line up of salsas! All of them are amazing. My favorite is the thicker green one (there are two green Salas) but honestly you need to try them all. Try the salsa, change your life. Staff is super friendly and wait time was like 5-10 min. Great ambiance and plenty of spots to sit (at least at non peak lunch or dinner hours) If you haven't yet, check out this family-owned spot. It kind of reminds me of authentic homemade food. I'm so stoked they are sharing their family's dishes with us!

Yelp
Meh. Wasn't impressed and couldn't believe the cost for 1 dinky little gordita! Save yourself some money and make your own at home!! 3 stars for the customer service and chips/salsa while I waited for my order.

Yelp
I finally got the chance to try this place, and I love it! The corner shopping center looks pretty generic, but the interior of the restaurant is spacious and clean. The decor is hip and the menu is well-organized and easy to understand. The salsa bar is well-stocked, but the small cups are quite small. I loved the gorditas. The outer tortilla was perfectly grilled, and the steak and pork belly were so flavorful. There's enough "juice" mixed in with the meat stuffing so it's never dry with each bite. I also enjoyed the crispy chips served with my order. The aqua fresca was tangy and lightly sweetened. It's refreshing to go with the gorditas. I'm already planning my return for the next lunch outing.

Yelp
The city of Lakewood is hosting a LeadHer series during the month of March and I signed up to attend "Behind the Scenes of Success"; a tour of women-owned Lakewood businesses. Arlae Chip and her husband own Nostalgia Gorditos. Although this was a private event, the owners and staff were super kind and friendly. There was nothing I tasted that I did not like. The guisos (stews) were meant to go inside a Gordita or tortilla but I ate them all with a fork and tortilla chips. Restaurant is about a year old, freshly painted clean and well organized. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place a few months ago and boy am i glad i did , cool little shop tucked in the stripmall area on south and bellflower . I wanted to try something new for breakfast one day and this place popped up so I had to head on over to give it a shot. The owner is super cool and answered all questions that I had about the menu . I'm a sucker for some picadillo and I was stoked to see that they had that on the menu. The red chili pork was really good too and they have a lot of great veggie options which my wife said were delicious. I've stopped in multiple times now and tried everything from the Gorditas to the breakfast burritos and they are all good, the cool thing is you can mix any of their meat into the breakfast burritos. The reason for the negative one star is it the hours are kind of weird and they're not open in the evening which I think they need to work on. Also, the price point is slightly higher than other places, but it is more quality over quantity at this place for sure. Come, give it a shot. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Good food.

Yelp
Couldn't decide on which Gordita to order so I took home 1 of each . My god! I should have ordered more. I'm simple, the bean and cheese Gordita was my favorite. Will be trying their breakfast burrito next.

Yelp
Delicious! I can't enough of this place. I suggest trying their pork, beef and potatoes, and chicken tinga. I typically get the chicken tinga Gordita the most, but they are all good. Their green sauce is so good and the red has a nice flavor. Staff is always friendly, but they do monitor your salsa by giving you a set of salsa cups. I believe you can get more for a little extra $$$

Ferny F.

Yelp
As other people indicated, the food is overpriced and the portions are small, nothing compared to their pictures/posts on instagram. Even the horchata, the cup was full of ice but they didn't even fill the cup with horchata to the top. Their salsas are good tho! However, they only give you 2 of those small salsa/condiment cups/containers, and they charge $.50 cents for any extra. Sucks for take-out. The service was fast. I was really looking forward to trying this place, and was left very disappointed.

Yelp
Finally a place with all day breakfast burritos! We found this place & decided to stop in as we love breakfast but in the late afternoon. We ordered the breakfast burrito and chilaquiles, both were phenomenal. We also saw their special for the day was pozole and decided to get a bowl of that too, it was sooo good. I wish it was in their menu all the time. It was our first time here & we were very satisfied. The inside looks new & super clean. The service was great. You can tell it's an awesome mom & pop shop, the type of restaurant you want to support! Everything was perfect. We will be back to try the other items on the menu ! Check this place out!

Alexis A.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place but left extremely disappointed. The restaurant itself is still new, so pretty clean. The owners customer service came off as a little dry. After reading her responses to other Yelper's I confirmed it's not just me, the owner/cashier is kinda rude and doesn't take criticism well. That being said, I was NOT impressed with the actual Gorditas. The Gorditas are dry and lack flavor. The fillings are just mediocre. Ordered a side of nopales salad which lacked flavor. I typically give business's a second chance had the customer service been superb, but in this case I don't not see myself going back. Note to owner: Use these reviews as a tool to improve your small business not to justify why your staff opened late etc.
google avatar

Osvaldo F.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! My favorite dish has to be the chilaquiles plate with green salsa, with a side of chicharrón en salsa verde. The service has always been great and friendly. Ohhh and their Gorditas are life!! So full of flavor each and every time you take a bite. You will not be disappointed with whatever protein you decide to add to your Gordita.

Yuliana M.

Yelp
DO NOT Spend your money! Saw them on KTLA and Instagram and the food looked amazing and the Gordita's were filled up. I went today and the gorditas were not filled that much. Got the chile relleno burrito and the chile relleno was dry, it had no sauce and no flavor it was more rice and beans than anything. The food was pricy especially for the portion sizes. The location was quiet. And the service was fast. I would NOT go back! Save your money and go elsewhere.

Yelp
Finally a place that's given breakfast burritos a much needed upgrade. Breakfast burritos with chicken tinga? Yes please! I've had it twice and both times it's been delicious. Great flavor , unique combination that works and also , where has it been all my life? Also great friendly service. Love that there's a new place in the neighborhood that offers great food.

Yelp
This is a review of their breakfast burrito instead of the gorditas (I felt it was too early in the morning to have a gordita). I've been jonesing for a breakfast burrito and there aren't many quick spots in the area, boy was I happy to have heard that Nostalgia Gorditas sell breakfast burritos (until 11 am daily). Located in a small little shopping plaza next to Crunch Fitness, this shop has a cute design from outside to inside and I love how they are welcoming the moment you get to the door with the "Yay! You're Here!" sign painted on the door to the staff inside. Everyone is welcoming. They have a lot of different types of meats you can choose from and their breakfast burrito menu is no joke. I ordered the steak and egg one with pico de Gallo and I must say it does not disappoint. The meat is seasoned well and mixed well with the egg, cheese, and salsa. Definitely hit the spot and I cannot wait to come more frequently!

Ish R.

Yelp
These are not authentic gorditas. These are essentially Pancake Tacos. The godita is made from a liquid batter like pancakes. Not a Hand Made Masa like they should.

Yelp
Yes but not the best . Expected more of a Mexican Gordita taste . Beans tasted like can beans to.
google avatar

Yelp
A friend recommended this place and Im so glad I tried it! I had the chicharron in salsa verde gordita and the rajas con crema gordita and they were amazing! Coming back soon for sure!

Yelp
Mi madre es de Torreon y mi papa de Chihuahua y yo naci en Cd.Juarez y puedo decir que estas gorditas de harina estan buenisimas Lo unico malo es que cierran muy temprano
google avatar

Yelp
Very clean, and nice inside and ac is really nice during the summer . Food was excellent and customer service was very nice as well and prompt, felt like family talking to everyone highly recommend.

Yelp
This place specializes in absolutely delicious flour gorditas filled with homemade stews. We will definitely be back... often! And that creamy green sauce - SO GOOD What we got: - Chicharron en Salsa Verde Gordita - Picadillo Gordita - Tinga de Pollo Gordita - Bistek Ranchero Gordita - Rajas con Crema y Elote Gordita - Rice & Beans EVERYTHING was good, including the service! My personal fave was the Chicharron, Picadillo and Rajas con Crema y Elote. See more at @foodiesforthesoul

Yelp
On my first breakfast visit, I opted for the chilaquiles verdes with rice, beans, and 2 eggs any style. Adding the guiso of chicharron en salsa verde took this already delicious meal to another level. The generous serving, delightful flavor, exceptional service and reasonable pricing make it the best I've tasted. I am ecstatic to have this gem of authentic Mexican food in our neighborhood as Lakewood has limited great food options.

Yelp
DELICIOUS I never had gorditas before - I'd heard of them but never actually tried them. This was my first time & I'm so glad Nostalgia Gorditas was the place I had my first one. I ordered the chicharron en salsa verde & OH. MY. GOD. I don't normally order pork let alone pork belly just not a fan, but I asked what was popular & was recommended it so I said why not. No "ragrets" lol. Definitely coming back and bringing the whole family. I'm honestly getting hungry just thinking about it. Oh and the owner SLAYS - she is so sweet & kind. So happy she blessed the city with these delicious gorditas.

Aud M.

Yelp
Food was delicious just way overpriced for the food we received. We've lived in Torreón before where we ate delicious gorditas all the time & we expected more than we received especially for the price we paid. Biggest thing for me was how expensive the Gordita was and the size was like for a child. Service was good it was only us & another couple there at the time. Ambiance was very cute, clean & reminded me so much of Torreón. I really hoped for a better overall experience.
google avatar

Rosemary C.

Yelp
Not what I expected. First timer and disappointed . It was too salty , too small for what you pay for and the chicharron wasn't as crispy. The rajas gorditas was good. Maybe it needs crema or beans or something.
google avatar

Jake C.

Yelp
Amazing food. You know it's going to be some bomb food when you walk in and you see two aunties working the kitchen! Love everything here. Super well seasoned food and great salsas! I
google avatar

Luz B.

Yelp
The taste is traditional in flavor. I really enjoyed my Gorditas, they even served me a complementary side of tortilla chips. I thought the salsa bar was a nice touch. Really looking forward to trying their breakfast burritos in the near future.
google avatar

Cynthia P.

Yelp
I never had Gorditas before and it did not disappoint! The Gorditas are handmade, you can taste the freshness. I got a chicarrón verde (pork with green sauce) and Papas Rojas (smashed potatoes with red sauce) and they were amazing. The staff was very friendly the service was fast. If you're a foodie person like me and are looking for a new food or trying to supper small business- give this place a shot!

Arturo G.

Yelp
Great, homemade style food in a nice environment. Service is always excellent as well. Get the huevos rancheros!
google avatar

Crystella L.

Yelp
My husband and I tried these gorditas for the very first time during the first week of their soft launch. To say that I was satisfied with the service and quality of food is an understatement. First and foremost, my family and I are from Torreón Coahuila. Never in my 37 years of life have I met any fellow Laguneros let alone seen a restaurant that made authentic gorditas. We had the gorditas de picadillo, chicharrón en salsa verde, puerco en salsa roja, and the bean and cheese. They were all oh so delicious!! The chicharrón is my favorite and it truly taste like my mothers cooking. The gorditas are made out of flower and not corn which is makes them even better. Nostalgic for sure. Thank you Nostalgia Gorditas for bringing a piece of our motherland for many to try! My family and I are customers for life!
google avatar

Audrea B.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cute little new spot a few days ago picking up my dry cleaning.. and boy am i happy i did. Great service so welcoming. Very cute, clean restaurant. My first question was regarding lard in the beans as a vegan it's important to know what items are safe. So happy to report no lard is used in their beans. I had 2 Gorditas to go a calabasa Gordita and a beans and rice gordita( not on the menu) but they happily made for me. All the salsas were delicious too. Food was prepared hot and fresh; i loved it and can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Brenda M.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this place! The food is absolutely amazing! I've now tried all of their guisos and I'm having a hard time picking a favorite! So I'll give you a few Chicken tinga, bistec ranchero, papas en salsa roja and picadillo. Yummy! Ok now I want more! Truly a must have!

Dane C.

Yelp
Wow the food here is amazing. So fresh and delicious. The salsa will slap you in the face! The green salsa out of this world with just enough heat to make your brow sweat. The hottest red salsa definitely delivered. The family who owns this place will greet you at the counter with hospitality like you're in their home. Just a great place you need to try.
google avatar

Grant G.

Yelp
We were lucky enough to drop by on the first day of their soft opening and we walked away with our bellies full! The interiors were nicely done. The restaurant has some booths and tables inside and outdoor seating as well. As for the food - nothing beats fresh! Everything here is made from scratch and cooked to order. We especially loved the gorditas: chicharron en chile verde (pork belly in green sauce), picadillo (ground beef and potatoes), and tinga (chicken in chipotle adobo sauce) were our favorites. Everything was melt in your mouth delicious that we had to get round 2! Good selection of pickled vegetables. Salsas were addicting and perfectly complements chips. We also appreciated that Mexican colas were available to wash all the food down. If you have never tried gordita, now's your chance. Really solid food - we'll be back!

Mirna K.

Yelp
Great guisados and I love their spicy red sauce! Also super clean. The staff is very friendly.

Carmen F.

Yelp
Very good food. Service as well. Their hot salsa is the bomb. Very hit and tasty. The owners even interact with you to make sure all is good.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
So good! We got the squash and corn, bean and cheese, and the poblano and cheese gorditas and I would highly recommend them! So good! The salsa is fire! My mouth is still burning but so damn flavorful! I am excited for the full menu to come! It's soft opening right now but I took a picture of the full menu so everyone can get as excited as I am for all the goods!
google avatar

Yelp
Great great great food. Owners here are very nice and personable. The Gorditas, suuuuper fresh flour tortilla. The bistec burrito is . Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Haven't even tried the food but they said they open at 8 am was waiting outside a the cook came out a told me that they were waiting on the cashier to come in to work sucks.

Yelp
The food quality at Nostalgia is exceptional. The restaurant takes pride in offering traditional Mexican dishes prepared with fresh and high-quality ingredients. The flavors are rich and authentic, capturing the essence of Mexican cuisine. Nostalgia's commitment to maintaining consistent and delicious food quality makes it a standout choice for those seeking a authentic taste of Mexican food.

Byron C.

Yelp
Great service. Food is 4.5/5 but the service makes it a 5. I didn't get to try their gorditas so that can be a different story
google avatar

Bianka C.

Yelp
Oh em gee!! Finally some salsa in Lakewood! Lol jk but seriously if you want authentic Mexican food this is the place for you! I just finished my meal and I'm already thinking about what I'm going to order the next time we come back! Reminds me of my abuelas gorditas
google avatar

Cindy M.

Yelp
If you're craving that home cooked taste, this is the perfect spot. This food will warm your soul. I had the chicken gordita with a side of rice and beans. The husband had the chicharron en salsa verde. We didn't have to wait long for our food. The fresh salsas were very tasty. Establishment is clean. I do have to share that my kids are picky eaters. They only eat carne asada tacos. This place offers guisos, so their version of asada has cooked onions. My kids were picking these out. Meat was delicious though.

Silvia S.

Yelp
Highly recommend Nostalgia Gorditas, it's super delicious. Very authentic cuisine. We tried 4 different gorditas & a burrito. Papas/Chicharrón en Chile Verde Picadillo con Papa Frijoles con Queso Bistec Ranchero They were all delicious, will definitely come back.
google avatar

Marco R.

Yelp
I eat here at least 1 once a week, food is amazing!!! I love spicy food so I always get the green salsa chicharrón Gorditas!!! Try them!!! They are fire!! Staff is nice and friendly and funny!!!
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
I've been coming to this restaurant specifically for the rajas as they've been the tastiest I've encountered. Well today's visit was a different story. After a week of the restaurant stating they had "no rajas today" this Sunday it was different, and they had them. Typically the rajas at this restaurant are white, and cheesy in consistency to where the burrito is wet but NOT today. The two burritos I ordered were as dry as a bone! Definitely not the same cook and ingredients. When I called the restaurant to give the feedback. The female owner seemed offended when I explained my concerns. I told her there was definitely a change & of course she stated that she's the cook and nothing has changed as she "prepares everything". Your customers are no fools sweetheart, we know change when we TASTE it! Needless to say it was just about 11am when we got our order & they were ALSO out of salsa. Today I paid $27.00 for two rajas, beans & rice burritos. I could've went to Taco Bell and spent $2.00 on a bean & cheese and been more satisfied. Nonetheless, we will no longer return after today's encounter.

Nicole S.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. The restaurant is very cute and a great place to grab breakfast or lunch. A must go to place in Lakewood. My favorite Gordita is the picadilllo!!

Jason B.

Yelp
Best Gorditas I ever had! It's hard to find Gorditas around this area. The only place I used to get them was el Mercado in east la. The price is good, the vibe is cool, the customer service was friendly and the food is amazing! They have a salsa bar I really loved the green creamy one! But with the flavor of the food you don't need any salsa.
