15 Most Anticipated Portland Spring/Summer Restaurant Openings | Eater Portland

"I'm eager to see Nostrana's new, brighter and more modern wine-bar expansion, which will carry far more wine from Oregon, Italy and beyond and serve casual-but-elevated Italian dishes; the space will also experiment with unique ideas like 'sushi Italiano' and a fried chicken and Champagne brunch." - Alex Frane

Came to visit family locally and they treated me to this exquisite meal. The olive tapenade was decadent and the fresh baked bread was perfect to start. Nonas meatballs and the home made pastas were highlights. Branzino was done perfectly and the chicken dish was crispy and juicy at the same time. Highly recommend the restaurant, service was attentive and timely. Definitely save room for the pecan lava cake!

My friend and I went here for the first time and it did not disappoint with regards to service and food. 1st they have an upstairs bar and a tapas menu. It has a completely different vibe from the bar and main dining room downstairs. The esthetic and ambiance is appealing to the eye. I need to give a shout out to Alex the manager and to Andrew, I believe he is the service manager, very polite and engaging. Kudos to their downstairs bartenders Aimee and Jason. Very engaging and accommodating and they gave us great recommendations on what to order. We would definitely come back being Jason was so accommodating to our needs and gave us great tips on what to order. Their cauliflower salad and hanger steak are a must. Both were incredible. 👍

Fantastic night out! Daria was very nice, attentive and knowledgeable , she suggested some amazing dishes. We ordered the scallop pasta and the hanger steak, both were delicious. The cocktails came out perfect. I would definitely come back here and try all of the handmade pasta on the menu It’s out new favorite spot.

Had the wonderful opportunity to visit Wednesday night and the staff was excellent. We started off with two cocktails, the seasonal burrata and fresh bread. The burrata was innovative using a gingerbread sauce which gave it a pleasant sweetness. For the main course we had the rigatoni and the uovo ravioli. I cant stress enough, if you get any pasta it should be the uovo ravioli. It was light, perfect, and unexpected. If you enjoy wine, the chianti was well balanced and paired great with our main courses. I can’t wait to see what dessert and future dinners have in store for this swanky new restaurant!

We were a party of 6 adults and one 10 month old baby. The main reason for this review is to compliment the service of literally every person we interacted with from start to finish, and having been regulars of the former restaurant at the same property, wanted to share the pleasure we had at this new place! Upon arrival; neither hostess was on their phone and we were immediately seated (to be fair, 4:45 rez). The hostesses were pleasant and both smiled. Our waitress was top notch, especially at such a new restaurant and us being such a large party. They DID have high chairs that were brought to the table, and there was one other family with children that we noticed at that time. Unfortunately; the baby in our party got fussy, which made the adults get a little fussy too. After said baby had thrown all the carrot sticks we brought on the floor (yes we cleaned them up😁), and continued to be fussy, I decided to ask the waitress if there were any side dishes or side veggies that could be served plain in attempts to occupy the baby so we could all have a better time. Within no time, she confirmed the chef could make plain steamed carrots and broccoli. While I wouldn’t normally expect a restaurant of this caliber to make / be able to make such an accommodation, it occupied the baby for the ENTIRE dinner. We could not be more grateful for this experience. Afterwards, the gentleman clearing the table and the sommelier were both friendly and made great conversation. We felt very taken care of the entire evening! The cocktails were a 10/10 across the board - from a standard gin and tonic to their holiday spritzer and even a mocktail, everyone agreed they were perfect. The espresso martini is nice and sweet and packs a punch - not for the DD! The goat cheese espuma and sundried tomato butter were to die for. The salads were fresh but filling - nice big portions. The table favorite entree was the raviolo. The gingerbread tiramisu was incredible - but I deff recommend splitting it! It’s very sweet, and simultaneously crunchy and creamy - a very satisfying end to a great night! The only reason the food did not get a 5 from me; is because they are still finding their legs as a new place. I know the owners have other incredible local restaurants and businesses, so I have no doubt once they’re settled it will be 5’s across the board. I can’t wait to see them succeed and be able to add to my review. They guaranteed we will be back with the full experience (even without the baby)!

Finally we have a sophisticated restaurant in town! I’m already biased because we are big fans of Ombra (same owners) and we have friends who live near and speak highly of Sorellina and Sirenetta. I’ll start off by saying I was already impressed that they know to serve the burrata at room temperature 👌🏻 We additionally ordered a bottle of Lambrusco, the fried mortadella, uovo raviolo, and hanger steak. The textures and flavors are very well balanced. I asked our waitress if they have truffles available as a supplement (as I thought I saw them on an Instagram post) and to my surprise, my dish was brought out with freshly shaved black (or summer?) truffles. If you’re a truffle connoisseur, this is a big deal to have available in the area. Needless to say I was absolutely delighted. Great atmosphere, attentive staff, just an incredibly refreshing experience so thank you for existing and best of luck. I’ll be a regular. We need you here!

Absolutely incredible dining experience will definitely be back to dine again very soon. Server was delightful and very helpful with menu recommendations. Prices are very reasonable. Valet was very nice and professional. Highly recommend food, service and ambience.

Google
the new restaurant is beautiful. we waited so long. but probably won't go back for dinner service was not up to snuff, the fish was dry 7 dollars for a small basket of bread. disgraceful, and the menu is too eclectic. how about at least one item that doesn't have pumpkin or mussels. or a steak small enough for 1 person . the manager understood our concerns and credited our bill. He was kind caring and does his job. Now get the rest of it together. maybe the tapas will b better. we loved the old menu. real Italian food.

Yelp
First time trying Nostrana since it opened in Nov '24. Overall, love the remodel from the previous restaurant - understated modern style with light and airy bar and dining area. But it's a tale of two floors - the bar/lounge upstairs is very open but only serves small plates/appetizers and drinks while only the main seating area serves the entire me menu - be careful when you make a reservation. I felt the lounge space was incomplete - something was missing. There wasn't any available table in the main restaurant when we reservations but decided to go anyway. Luckily the manager got us a table after we ordered a few drinks. Once seated downstairs the staff were friendly and attentive then entire night. Overall a nicely balanced menu. We tried the meatballs - great flavor with a little spice and the grilled zucchini along with the focaccia bread - which was fantastic. My wife had the ricotta gnudi - ricotta gnocchi - very rich and filling. I had the homemade pappardelle with spicy shrimp. This is where I am divided. While the dish was good, I wasn't expecting it to be sweet and spicy - my first thought was sweet Thai chili? The menu didn't mention sweet so it registering as being off. Also the pappardelle stuck together. I enjoyed the dish but just couldn't get past the sweet. We ended with the lemon gelato -very tart - loved it! We'll be back.

Yelp
I've been here a few times since opening and three things always remain consistent 1) the service is friendly, efficient and reliable 2) the energy and ambiance is great 3) and most importantly, the food is amazing! I've tried a few different dishes and they are all perfect. Highly recommend this place for a date night, family outing or even an individual meal by the bar.

Yelp
Ive had the oppurtunity to visit twice now. Once as a full sit down meal, and the other at their downstairs bar. The servers were very kind and extremely knowledgable! If you've been to their sister bar Ombra, you'd already know that the ice cream sandwich is a must get for dessert. With homemade gelato ive yet to be disappointed by the seasonal dessert selections. Next up is trying the unique appetizers in the upstairs bar!

Yelp
Been waiting to try this place and finally was able to. Started with drinks upstairs after checking in at the Host stand. The drinks were great all night. We were seated right at the time the reservations were made. The service was not great meaning everything took a while to come out even the drinks once seated. The place was not too busy, so I was a bit concerned as to why the service was so delayed. The staff was nice and offered the guests complimentary small bites. I will try again before giving a negative review.

Yelp
I was told they had two bars so without reservations on our weekend we decided to head over last minute. Unknowingly went up upstairs at the bar where they don't serve the full menu. Only a few small appetizers. We ordered the Arancini, which were small and not very good. The drinks were good and the bartenders were very nice but slow service. I have to say when I do read the full menu. I have trouble figuring out what I would order. It's very unusual food. Giving 3 stars for drinks, Ambiance and since it's a new restaurant, hoping they're going to take some feedback to improve.

Yelp
Cozy atmosphere, and a very welcoming and attentive staff. We had the rigatoni with a spicy Ragu and the ravioli with the egg yolk and short rib. The Caesar salad was excellent. We had the espresso budino which was also very delicious. Looking forward to returning soon.

Yelp
Nostrana opened recently, taking over beautifully renovation the space prviously occupied by Michealangelo's. Our meal was fantastic. Very flavorful. The services was friendly and prompt. We capped the evening off with a drink in the upstairs bar/lounge. I'm looking forward to spending many evenings here.

Yelp
Tasty dishes, nice atmosphere, friendly and informative staff. Impressed with each bite. The homemade bread, fried mortadella, nonna meatballs and grilled swordfish all stood out. Will definitely remember my experience here.

Yelp
So looking forward to the opening of this restaurant ....The first time we went the service was terrible ..... waitress never came back after our food arrived to see if we wanted more drinks or if our food was OK in the meantime, I would have liked a glass of wine and my husband would have liked a refill of his beverage . Since the restaurant was new, we decided to try it once again as I'm sure they needed to iron out kinks this time. It was a Tuesday night and my husband ordered a steak which was on the menu and was told they were out of it. Also he asked for vanilla ice cream for dessert and they were out of that as well I hope you read these reviews and resolve their problems as it is a beautiful restaurant, but when the service is not good, it doesn't matter how pretty the atmosphere is

Yelp
This is not your traditional Italian Restaurant with either familiar northern or southern Italian dishes. Beautiful physical plant inside and out. Servers were friendly, and manager Alejandro was very kind and welcoming. We started upstairs at 4:00 with Tapas food and bar that the menu lacked imagination, and did not offer any creative standard Italian small plates. Upstairs bar was warm and inviting with fireplace. Menus upstairs and downstairs were impossible to read small fine print. We all had to pull out our IPhones flashlight to read which affected our experience. Cocktails lacked imagination....cool bar upstairs and downstairs but no Espresso Martinis, Old Fashioned, or Manhattans.....our Entrees were under whelming and were small portions. An example, Branzini was presented on a plate by itself. Just a breaded fish on a plate...no sauce no small green. Very sad presentations. We kept waiting for a small side dish to complement the lonely fish on the plate. We did find some mussels that were completely hidden under the fish. My wife had the Gnudi pasta and albeit small portion, she said it was delicious in flavor. I had the Mushroom pasta that was a small portion, perfect Al dente but extremely bland and flat in flavor. Maui was last entree at table and my friend also said it was bland and lacked depth. 3 out of 4 entrees were unremarkable and disappointing meals. With entrees, salads, cocktails, desert and coffee our bill was over $300. Also our server never offered our table fresh parm or fresh grounded pepper for our dishes. Maybe this is not an offering at this Italian restaurant. Unfortunately, our table gave the total bar, table, server, and food experience a 3 out of 10... for lacking quality, and creativity. Scored it a 3 out of 10 on value for what you received. Scored it a 8 out of 10 on cool warm vibes. The manager did comp our deserts and coffee around $30 plus which was kind but unfortunately the overall experience did not deliver on value or quality. Maybe this beautiful new restaurant just needs a few more months to flush out a better menu- and improve the quality of the food and guest experience. Note that downstairs by 7:00 the acoustics were deafening and we had a very difficult time hearing one another.

Yelp
Giving three stars as this is a new restaurant and hoping they work things out. Hostesses were very kind and considerate upon arrival. One walked upstairs with us to show us the bar as we arrived ten minutes early. We were seated with our coats, no coat check. Our service was so slow, we had to call the waiter by name to put in an order for wine after sitting for ages. We ordered a bottle of spring water as well. Our waiter never came by to refill either wine or water - and when we finished our water, we never were offered more and just went without. We ordered salads which were very good and for dinner the egg ravioli and branzino. Both were good but small portions and the branzino had no sides or vegetables - just the branzino with a couple muscles. The ravioli says it comes with potato but it literally had a few thin potato slices on top. The atmosphere is pleasant and modern, comfortable but lacks character.
