Caught a wicked case of food poisoning for the first time in my life, 30 minutes after I left. I don’t blame the restaurant, I think there’s one really careless cook that is sliding under the radar and isn’t as good as the other cooks. They do breakfast really well but I notice an extreme quality change depending on who’s cooking that day. Love this place but cross your fingers and hope you don’t get whichever cook was on the line at the time.

DING DING 🛎️ FOODS READY this dineresce restaurant serves up all the bells and whistles. Delicious bells and whistles that is. They even let me get some lip numbing medication for my canker sore while i was waiting for my food! I felt treasured. The food was served warm. There was a gentleman watching a video of a tractor on full volume in the establishment which I enjoyed and I think added. Memories have been made! Thank you and good afternoon!!! 😃

Best donut I’ve had in ny so far ( I got a sugar donut)! I have been hunting for a donut similar to LA style donuts for a while now and this is the closest I have come!! Soft, fluffy, fresh, and affordable! Will be back! Update: they have permanently removed donuts from the menu - they should consider a name change

I had to visit this place 3-5 different times before finally catching open hours. think the hours end at 5pm on weekdays and not 8 as it says on the Google profile, and earlier times on the weekend. Try calling ahead before you go? I had a Boston creme here that was pretty good. It’s cheaper pricing than buying from a Dunkin’ Donuts so there’s no reason to go else where and I’d like to say it’s black owned but I’m not sure. It’s very diner like inside.

Overpriced for bland food. I miss the old donut shop... this place is living off of the history of the old shop. They keep it up... that place will be replaced with a Starbucks in no time.

I knew one day they would mess up my order. Today is 7/21 and the time I received my order from the store was roughly 9am. Anyway, the waiter was rude by saying “what you want”? The cooks didn’t season my food at all. They also Undercooked my bacon. I will not order here any more. Also I will be reporting them to food safety. You never know where people work. Will be getting this sandwich analyzed

I grew up in this neighborhood and it brings me joy Every time I walk into the donut shop. It's not fancy, the make only the classic donuts, and a few other pastries. Even though it's a donut shop the ppl who live and work in the neighborhood goes there for the breakfast and the options are many, pancakes, waffles, eggs however you want them, bacon (different types), hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, salad and soup. The decor reminds and seating reminds you of once of those diners you see in the movies from the early 50's, high top seating around the counter and the server goes from person to person to get their order. The fact that they know my name and order is a bonus.

I worked there in mid 80's. - night shift. It use to be open 24 hrs by the original owner Guess. I do not live in Brooklyn anymore but will be coming next week for a funeral of a friend lived nearby all these years. Wanted to see if the place still exists. Sad to know few bad reviews about the new owner. It was a good place for me to work and there were so many regular and satisfied customers. We never use to sell stale donuts. Bagles , donuts were made every few hrs at the back of the store but Biales use be delivered in the morning - just once a day. Biali was my favorite . Good old Brooklyn.

The new owner is horrible, I really enjoyed coming here when it looked so nostalgic. Reminded me of my grandparents time. And the old workers were so kind and pleasant. So I was in shocked to see that they were owned by totally different people one day. But I gave them a chance. Every time I order the same exact thing and every time they charge me something different. I even sat in there one time. But today he was in a mood, I've never seen him before. She brought my coffee and then my food. She is giving me the receipt as she is changing the prices. Writing over the original price on the menu. Coffee for $3.75, I have 2 different menus that say something totally different. So I'm asking her this coffee is $3.75 since when. And he immediately comes up and snatches the coffee and says you don't have to take it idc. I say I come in here all the time he tells me I'm just asking her a question. Again he yells idc you can get out. I don't care, don't buy it don't buy it. I was so confused at that service. So I leave the food and of course the coffee. I will never again give them my business. And I don't feel bad because I can see in another review he was nasty to them as well. Don't get into customer service business if you don't want to deal with the public. Especially in this neighborhood. It's sad to see the only diner here run away their customers.

Long Winded Version: I grew up several blocks from the Nostrand Donut Shop and never knew it existed until this past weekend. I'm sad I've missed out on this growing up but pretty stoked there's a great, local shop to fulfil my sugar cravings. You walk into the shop and immediately get a Back to the Future, nostalgic vibe. Like a dinner in the 60s with a casual vibe. Let's cut to the chase though ... Nostrand Donut Shop are donuts done right! (free slogan pitch). The donuts I tried were fresh and delicious. The Honey Dip was light, the Toasted Coconut (my favorite) was cakey ... the Chocolate Honey ... well, I can't attest for that one because my mom wouldn't share the donut ... which I purchased for her ... because that's a thing. But yeah, this place is dope. Worth of a Homer Simpson: Mhmmmmmm ... Definitely check out this retro, goodness in the heart of Flatbush. Bring your mom ... or not. She probably won't share her donuts either.

Besides a plain bagel or occasionally bacon egg cheese, I'm very pro make it yourself save money you have eggs/ bacon at home. To me breakfast is usually not a time consuming thing and it's quite simple to make some scrambled eggs or an omelette. So on a early morning getting off of work I had a craving for breakfast but not just regular bacon egg cheese from the corner store but more like diner style breakfast. If your from Flatbush you know there really isn't any diners besides the Arch or Floridian or Daisys etc and all are on the other sides of town and dinettes are even more few and far between so the location is perfect for me. Inside looks exactly how it probably looked 40 years ago so I knew my food was gonna be tasty. Wheat toast cheese omelette and fries and I tore that up in about 5 minutes. So happy to find a good breakfast spot close to me.

There are parts of New York that feel frozen in time-- if you look up at older buildings, you can see the old signage from other eras, advertising long gone industries. Luncheonettes like Nostrand Donut Shop are from that era and are a reminder of a simpler time. The gourmet donuts that cater to millennial palates are great, but you won't find a tarragon glazed ube cream puff here. There are plenty of donut flavors to choose from, but the flavors are classic, ranging from old fashioned to jelly. I opted for a chocolate honey donut, and it did not disappoint. The outside was nice and crispy, with a perfectly moist cakey interior. The donut and glaze weren't too sweet, and for me was the perfect size for a small breakfast treat. At $1.25 the prices can't be beat. Ca$h only.

When im in the area and there is a parkimg spot available and I want a quick bite to eat for breakfast. I stop in here for a quick honey dipped/glazed donut and a tea or coffee. That combo never fails and hits the spot. They also have honey dipped/glazed munchkins that are also pretty tasty.

I'd been wanting to try this place for a few years as I love donuts and this is the only donut shop in the neighborhood. I finally made it and my immediate thought was it looked almost immediately like the inside of Peter Pan donuts in Greenpoint. It definitely is an old school donut shop and has a very authentic feel. The people working are nice and they had some unique flavors like toasted coconut and chocolate and honey. These are the two I tried and both were Cakey type donuts that were flavorful and not dry! The only real downside was that it was cash only so you had to go to an atm next door or I actually walked across the street to Walgreens to get cash back. The price is super cheap, I got two donuts and a bottle of water for $3.50. To me, it was as good as Peter Pan and had the same vibe but without all the attention that Peter Pan donuts get.

I was ordering with The guy at the front. He told me to hurry up because he had other people to attend to, he patiently waited for the other people to order and he never took my order. I was waiting for about 10 minutes. Never again.

Friendly service very good donuts and the ice coffee is very good . The have a chocolate cake donut that is one of the best I've ever had .

The ownership has changed and the new owner is mean called my friend and I fat in order to get us to buy two donuts. Was rude all around offering free donut and taking it back, saying donuts were warm but were in refrigerator and cold.

This is my go to stop for coffee before I head to work when I'm in the area. The other day, I decided to grab a muffin as well. I know what you're thinking...why not a donut?! Or a breakfast sandwich?! I know I know. But I'm a muffin person and had to check theirs out! Not sure if the muffin themselves are fresh as the donuts though. Was it the best muffin? No. But it wasn't bad. It's a soft muffin- kind of like the hostess mini muffin texture (not the kind that has crispy baked edges). Not a freshly baked type. I got the blueberry and it had sufficient amount of blueberry in it but weren't the big blueberry chunks. Still ate the whole thing but I would most likely try their donuts and/or breakfast sandwiches next time! Coffee is just simple cup of Joe. Nothing fancy. But make sure to tell them you don't want any cream or sugar! I told them black coffee once, only to drink it at work and it had cream AND sugar in it :( Service is friendly! The very first time I went was the worst (super unfriendly) but since then I've had pleasant visits :) Place always has people either grabbing something to go or eating in. So you know there's foot traffic and it's a staple for the people who live or work around the area. I'll still be stopping by for coffee. I'll also grab other food at different visits too!

Nothing fancy about this nostalgic, old school place but the breakfasts are decent and possibly the cheapest in Brooklyn. Coffee is pretty good and the service is Polite, kind and fast. They know regulars orders by heart and have them ready and waiting. Don't forget to tip them!

My friend raves about this place so I decided I had to go check it out :) Tried their honey dip donut, which basically tasted like a superior glazed donut. Didn't actually get much of a honey flavor but that fried dough taste came through loud and clear. Texture was wonderfully fluffy and light, and it tasted fresh. Definitely better than Dunkin'. Their menu is pretty sizable-- in addition to their donuts, they have many other breakfast food options. Interior was larger than I expected. I'll be back to try their other donut flavors!

Stopped in while looking for a sweet fix at work. Loved their vanilla sprinkle doughnut. Took me back to my childhood when I would get this style with my grandparents. If you're in the area check them out. For those of you who are not a fan of sweet items, the also offer what seems to be a quality breakfast for a great price. Will return.

The customer service here was lovely. I had eggs cheese with toast for $3.60. They serve you in paper plates. Overall, it was good.

I've been coming here for some years now and things have hardly changed. Mornings are always busy here partly because there are poor breakfast options in the area, but also because you can get semi home cooked breakfast outside of home. I've had a few of their items - from the donuts to their breakfast platters. They're all good! A personal favorite and must try from here are the croissants. The women behind the counter are always nice while trying to juggle a few things a once. They are a small place with an old diner feel. They do have seating available so you can stay and eat if you'd like (not the most comfortable but it works).

My boyfriend C and I decided to visit and taste four different Brooklyn Donut shops in one day without going into a sugar coma. This was our first stop. Before we got there we decided to rate our experience on several criteria: 1) Presentation (everyday or chic?); 2) Cost-Value (is the price equivalent to the experience/taste); 3) Donut type (cake: moist or no? yeast: doughy or gummy?); 4) Dunkability--can it survive C's test of dunking into whatever hot drink he had? 5) would it become our new favorite place? We liked Nostrand Donut shop. It had an everyday type feel like a place you just go to have a donut and chill for a minute without worrying about anything. We picked up a Toasted Coconut and a Chocolate Glaze. The toasted coconut was cake and not too dry and very tasty. It passed the dunkability test. The chocolate glaze donut was a little dry but we forgave them; we were starting our adventure late. Overall, it got a great review and we liked its charm, but sadly would not be our new favorite donut place. I would definitely visit again.

Delicious coffee and fresh, fluffy, glorious donuts. Absolutely loved the honey dipped donut, it was a delicious soft sugary cloud - amazing! The only downside is that it is cash-only, which is not unusual for the area. I would go back for a sweet, fresh donut any time I'm in the area!

Last in a dying a breed of neighborhood greasy spoon diners This a great place to pick up a morning breakfast and read the paper. The donuts taste a little less mass produced than its neighboring dunkin donuts. I especially love the hot food including pancakes, BLT on croissants, and pretty much anything fired off the grill. This place is an all around win.

The absolute best best freshly made donuts. My dad has been coming to this lovely donut shop since I was little. I get so excited going to this donut shop as an adult. Their donuts have not changed and are as delicious as when I was a little girl. I would highly recommend this donut shop!!!!

They need an express To Go line that doesn't take forever to get a simple cup of coffee!!! There are barely any good coffee shops in our neighborhood and I've missed my train too many times because of the slow service. Please please please try and make it easier to grab a cup of joe on our way to work without the frustration of being late.

I go here quite often since it's one block away from my house. I love the stuff here. The donuts, the coffee , the service. Hubby and the kid both love the pancakes and the burgers here too. It's a really nice neighborhood spot.

This is one of the oldest staples in the neighborhood. I remember coming here often when I was younger and begging my dad to get me a brownie. This place is an old school donut shop with the swivel seats providing, the obvious, donuts, savory breakfast and lunch sandwiche options. Drinks include anything from coffee, tea, soda, juice and water. The staff is friendly and used to its regular and new customers. My last order included egg whites and swiss cheese on a croissant. The croissant is flaky and light in texture. And egg whites are quite hard to flub up. I'm not a coffee drinker but my friends tell me the coffee is good. I also got a sugar donut, which was soft and light not doughy. The sugar used is not overly sweet put a nice light fully sugared donut. Unfortunately, I havent seen my brownies in a long time and not particularly sure I would be able to eat an entire one. There are many different meal options or you can just create your own. This place like I said is a staple and I really hope its not going anywhere. If your in the neighborhood check it out.

There's a scene in The Yiddish Policeman's Union set in a doughnut shop since, not to be cliche but...policeman...doughnuts. This is my rough recollection of the scene: Detective (while chomping on a doughnut the owner made fresh just for him): Its good, Benny. Benny: Please, Officer, don't insult me. Detective: Its really good. Benny (with the most sincerity and most serious tone you can imagine):......Nothing in your life even comes close. This is what I thought of when I ate these. I've had the lemon creme topped one, the apple topped one, the toasted coconut, and the coffee roll (like a cinnamon bun). At least no doughnut in your life comes close. Certainly not that Doughnut Plant and Dough stuff. Those doughnuts are just okay in comparison. Do be prepared for these to be crispy with fry oil. The first two I mentioned in particular. Maybe that's why they're so good. I tasted a croissant and it was just fine. Haven't tried the breakfast sandwiches or the lunch food here but just had to review the doughnuts in the meantime since I expect doughnuts is really what they do and everything else will be just an afterthough (albeit a cheap one, like, $4 for a BLT). The ambiance: yes, the stools and old counters. And I'm not talking old in style. These counters are clearly the originals since opening. On a recent friday afternoon I was in it was packed full of what I can only imagine are regulars- all local middle-aged men. All seemed to know each other and the staff. All talking and buying each other coffees and "You know the way I like it" and "I'm just messin with you now." And the brusque counter server. Don't be intimidated. Grab a stool.

Their prices are below average and all their food is way above average. The owners are friendly and helpful. Feels like an old school diner. Great hangout spot for a breakfast sandwich, or coffee and donuts.

Way better then dunkin donuts! I love their donuts and prices! 6$ for a dozen donuts! 1$ for 10munchkins!! That's CHEAP! Highly recommend! They been in business for a long time so you will def like this place!

This is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. The owners and staff are so welcoming and friendly, and the environment feels like home. Traditional dinette that has great food and really good donuts. The coffee is very tasty as well!

Been going to this place since I was little, moving back to my old neighborhood and finding this place still going strong makes me so happy! Their donuts have been the same for 20 yrs, my favorite growing up was and still is the chocolate glaze. Owners look like they haven't aged a bit, but Nice to see some new young faces working there to help make the service a bit faster. It's def not a fast pace shop, so have patience when stopping in.

This is going way back into my childhood - grew up going to this donut shop way before I knew what Dunkin Donuts and the rest of them event existed. The baked goods are prepared fresh each morning - and you can tell. The price is right and the service is swift especially when you are trying to catch the B35. I cannot speak for the breakfast that's why I can't give it five stars. :)

I work construction all over nyc this is my favorite breakfast spot. No suprises well priced and delicious consistent.... simple. It's all I really want and this place serves it with some old school fair

they don't make diners like this anymore. this one reminded me of peter pan in greenpoint but with colombian flair. regular coffee comes sweetened and creamed. it's the colombian way. i'll be back for a share of doughnuts, especially the honey dipped and coffee bun. these are your old school doughnuts. nothing flashy like doughnut plant or dough. prices are economical.

I love this place! The food is great, very tradition greasy spoon breakfast, the doughnuts are amazing and its totally authentic! Its the best breakfast in the area hands down.

Ordered a chocolate donut with sprinkles, it was the absolute worst donut I've ever had. I feel bad even writing it, but it tasted like it had sat there for a week before being eaten. I guess I can't be too upset over a dollar, but I would never recommend this place. Also, just a heads up that they only take cash.

Nostrand Donut Shop is a nice family run place. It has a nice selection of tasty donuts and has a lot of counter seating for breakfast. The food is nothing to write home about but it's decent and their prices are inexpensive ($3.50 for breakfast platters and $2.50 for an egg and sausage on a bagel). When you're done with your food you can drop your Styrofoam plate over the counter and into the garbage can behind it. We don't really have places like these in the Bay Area because we're too focused on expensive fancy "brunch" places but if you're in the neighborhood and need a cheap bite, it's a nice local hangout.

I just love this place more every time i visit. It's a total throw-back gem to a time when donut-centric diners/luncheonettes were a fairly common business model. An article next to the register mentions that this place has been here since 1962! And the curved counter seating doesn't look like it's changed much since. I've only had a few of the donuts so far, but I can definitely recommend the boston creme--it's perfect, and a heck of a lot better than anything you can get at the DD down the street. As a newcomer to the hood, it's also a pretty decent cup of coffee. Don't get me wrong; these are diner-style donuts--on par with the 7th ave donut shop in Park Slope or Peter Pan in Greenpoint. There will be no hibiscus or dulce de leche donuts here. Just your usual down-to-earth donut and breakfast/lunch selections (for very cheap!) and a friendly attentive staff. I look forward to eating at the counter soon.

Incredibly charming place...and a baker's dozen for 6.50! I disagree that these donuts are better than Dough, but they are still delicious and at a fair price (unlike Dough). Plus close to my apartment! The classic honey glazed is my favorite - just the right amount of sweetness!

Love this place. Great prices, and the donuts are above par, in my opinion. I particularly like the chocolate marble pastry and a breakfast bagel sandwich.

Family-kind place, welcoming and inexpensive. The food is very good, but what counts the most here is the atmosphere. Forget about DD, that's the place. This become pretty much my go-to spot when in a need for good and substantial breakfast.

Im only given this place two stars because of the service. I was really excited to see a donut shop like it in Flatbush, Brooklyn. But two employees working there I know for sure saw me and although they were with a customer neither one even tried to greet me or tell to at least wait a moment. I excused this thinking that wasn't bad customer service. But then after helping those customers they both just walked off to do other things and never came back. I even waited a while and nothing. I was really disappointed. So I left. The donuts looked really gooooooooddddddddd honestly. Maybe I'll give them another try on a different day of the week.

Best donuts I've ever had! Light and fluffy. The jelly donuts are SOOOO delish. They are actually filled! Unlike some other brand name donuts ;) You have to try these. Make a special trip if you have to!

These guys are a great old school New York doughnut joint. this place would fit right in a scene from Annie Hall or Taxi Driver. It's crazy. With the spread of Dunkin' Doughnuts and Starbucks drawing in the casual crowd, and foodies hunting for the next big trendy thing, joints like this have fallen out of favor. Not with me. The food is decent, cheap, and the guys running the counter are always quick to step in and help you. I stop in here at least once a week to grab a coffee and a doughnut before work.
