Not Your Average Joe's - Acton

I ordered the Super Crunch salad to go and was very disappointed. The chicken was burned on one side. I didn’t see any spinach, and there was less than a quarter teaspoon of avocado in the whole salad. I won’t order this salad again. The staff was delightful—helpful and friendly.

I love Not Your Average Joe's and wish there was a location closer to me. Their food is really tasty and they have an extensive list of gluten free options. This location didn't disappoint.

Incredibly reliable for a good, delicious, satisfying meal - especially when you do not feel like taking a chance. The burger is always great. To my surprise I find seafood a top choice (salmon, haddock ... all great)! Chase down with a good beer from Average Joe's non-average bar!

The carpets are absolutely disgusting. The place is overdue for a deep cleaning!!! The plates, tables, walls floors and glasses are all greasy. The paint on the wall in the booth was damaged from the table and was peeling away from the wall. Ordered a rice bowl, pasta and meatloaf. The food took over 30 minutes to arrive and it was lukewarm at best. Mentioned it to the server when she asked, I guess she was aback by the truth. But, the lukewarm meatloaf was still pretty good. We pulled in knowing NYAG has yet to fail us in the past, but, there's always a first.

Not Your Average Joe's in Acton has a great atmosphere and selection of food for all. There is a significant selection of gluten free and gluten sensitive items on a separate menu sheet. Our server Amber was attentive to our table and even explained that there could be cross contamination of gluten in the sweet potato fries, which wasn't a problem for our table. Between the Smokey Joe Burger, a Gluten Free Burger & Bun, Cobb Salad with Chicken, Sweet Potato Fries, and other salads, we fully enjoyed our meal. It was noon time and we got a nice comfortable and quiet circular seating area in the back, which allowed for enough conversation that we were looking for. It wasn't busy at all, which is a rare treat. I recommend NYAJ's to all.

Take out was good. Chicken parm, goat salad, carrot cake, lava cake, broccoli, and bread. Everything was cooked good. Salad was smaller than expected. It was a good takeout for food.

It was a great experience to go after leaving Boston Pride! Our server, Arjun, was friendly and courteous, and all the food came out great. The summer bruschetta was amazing, definitely try it before it leaves.

Overall below average.. Burger was somehow undercooked but completely burnt on the outside, fries had so much salt they should have come with a waiver. Portions are small for the prices they charge. The place was nearly empty and somehow food was forgotten.

We had a really good experience here. The staff was very nice and the service was really good. I loved the cauliflower appetizer. I got the veggie harvest bowl, which was really good as well. The place was clean and comfortable.

Seated as soon has we arrived. Service was ok. Upon arrival it took a bit for the waitress to come over. Once she did we asked for water we never got. Decided to ask another waitress and she brought us some waters. Server was nice but would have liked her to be a bit for attentive. We eventually got bread and garlic dipping oil. The bread was good. I ordered the scallops pan-seared on a rosemary skewer, over a succotash of couscous. My husband got the Herb-Crusted Haddock served with mashed potatoes and broccoli. I would say the scallops were not the best I've had. Pretty bland the couscous was good just because of the corn mixed in for me the sweetness and crunch saved it tbh. My husband enjoyed his fish. Ambiance was family friendly. Lots of tables to sit at. They have the bar area right up front to grab a drink. Parking was easy. Pretty decent size shared with other businesses.

Second time ordering a cheeseburger here - the grill is too hot because the outside is burnt and it's undercooked. When you send it back to be cooked they literally char the crap out of it, including the cheese and send it back out and it's expensive!

Have been here several times, great vibe, ; hamburgers are the best I have ever had! The bar service is exceptional; great place to catch the rising Patriots on a Sunday Game Day!!

What a fabulous neighborhood restaurant! The staff are so helpful and nice. Our server was very helpful when I didn't know what I wanted and she suggested and described a couple of choices. I picked one of her fav's which was the Mac N Cheese. My friend who cannot have gluten got the same but with an additional topping. It was yummy! It's so hard to find a restaurant when my friend and I go out because there are never any gluten free options. I did try hers because I was interested in comparing the taste of non-gluten and regular Mac N Cheese. It was just as delicious! I would not have been able to tell the difference. For dessert, I had the carrot cake which was out of this world. Moist, creamy frosting and I could have had a second piece if I was not so full. Our server was so nice and I hope we get her again in the future.

Went into the establishments at 4:50 with my adult sons and it was before the dinner rush. We were promptly served water and bread. However it took till 5:25 for our drink orders to be taken. I ordered the chicken piccata that was delicious. My sons ordered the bacon pizza and the Cuban. Pizza had very little bacon and it Market basket pizza hot and fresh is better than the pizza that evening. My oldest was just hungry and ate it. Also he ordered a skull drink and the black salt was on the back of the drink where hands were. The drink was all ice, two sips most with a wine floater. Asked for a vodka upgrade on the floater and it couldn't be done. The point of a floater, is to be added on the top of a drink. For $16, it should of had less ice and more of a drink. The waitress said it was pre made. Very disappointing. The atmosphere was clean, however the server was annoyed and she had just started her shift. Tip reflected service. The Nashua establishment is much more proficient in service. First come should be first waited on and not last. Very disappointed. Also, specials and promotions were not even mentioned.

I am a big fan of NYAJ most of the time. I love their burger and fries for example. I always look forward to their Oktoberfest german cuisine. They have decent mocktails. Waiters are always attentive and good. There are a few problems that I have had. On two occasions I ordered a take out that included a caesar salad. The salad was so small in content that I was actually shocked. Another troubling issue is the pizza. The toppings are great and the periphery of the crust is good. But the central part of the pie is always rather soggy. A friend tells me that their oven must be too hot. If that was corrected I would be singing their praises. Another thing that sticks in my craw is that they used to have a wonderful chicken enchilada dish with a creamy poblano sauce. It was taken off the menu years ago. I actually found the recipe on line and my wife has successfully made it. Please bring this back, Joe!

Erna the bartender is kind, funny and attentive. The Cobb salad today was delicious. The chicken tasted like chicken kebab. I'm Persian Armenian and the flavours bursted and danced in my mouth and made me feel so bloody happy, warm and cozy. The drinks: Chai Old Fashioned was so damn good! The Heat is On SO DAMN GOOD!

Food is great, but the online ordering system is awful. Order was 20 minutes late! The whole point is for me to pick it up, not to hang out for 20 minutes. How hard can it be? Either do better or don't do it.

Everything was very solid. Came in with kids in tow and we were seated rather promptly. Place is kid and family friendly. Burgers went over well as did the chicken dishes. I had the chicken piccata and it was very good and better than I was expecting. Wines by the glass were decent. Service was fine and prices ok too. Would repeat but make a reservation as it can be crowded.

My husband's $15-off birthday coupon was getting ready to expire so we figured we'd head to NYAJ yesterday. The place was fairly empty, and we were seated immediately. Too bad we had to wait 15 min for the server. We called her over and told we had been waiting a while, and she apologized and said "she must be our server." We knew our order and I clearly told her we wanted two chicken potsticker apps (to be brought with the meal) and one fried fish and chips. We also asked for the bread and oil and some water, which she said she'd bring right away. Waited 10 minutes. She brought the entrees shortly thereafter but only brought 1 potsticker dish. Asked where the other was, and she said she only thought I said 1. Told her to forget the other as I didn't want to wait longer. My husband's fries weren't as crispy as he had ordered, so he sent them back. The server put the fish on another plate and removed the fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauce. Waited another few minutes for her to bring back the fries and stuff for the fish. We've come here many times over the years, but this may have been the worst experience we've had. Horrible server. She apologized several times, and I regret I didn't take her up on having the manager come over. The only good thing about the experience was being able to use the $15 coupon. Will be back but will change servers if she assigned to our table again.

I ordered takeout from the restaurant. I ordered inside the restaurant and waited for the three meals I ordered. I was told 15 minutes but it was closer to 35 or so minutes. Two meals were ready quickly and sat for a long time while a grill cheese and tomato soup meal was being prepared. As the meals sat for more than 15 minutes while waiting for the last meal, I asked if the other meals were still hot. I left and was home in less than 5 minutes with the meals. The soup and grill cheese sandwich were hot. But the other food including fries with both meals were very cold as if they were not hot to start with. The mustard chicken sandwich was very disappointing as the amount of chicken did not even cover a third of the bread. The chicken piece was about the size of a small chicken nugget and was full of skin and fat that made it inedible. Highly disappointed and would not recommend getting takeout from this location. I like the menu options but will not be getting takeout again from there.

Ordered the grilled cheese and soup. Tge soup was good. The grilled cheese had not melted cheese--yuck!

Greeting was, "Do you have reservations?" Not hi, not welcome to our restaurant, just demanding to know if I have reservations. Then was told to wait before we were finally let know we could eat there. Waiter was sarcastic, Food was gross. I ordered chicken parmigiana. It tasted like over cooked chicken dipped in warm wet breadcrumbs. Environment was extremely noisy and the decor looks like the interior of a jail cell. The sensation of being in a damp dark dungeon is how I felt. A cup of hot chocolate was $5.00 (rediculous) and a childs bowl of buttered noodles was $10.00. All I have to say is I hope they enjoyed seeing my money cuz they wont ever see it again. I do not recommend.

Food looked great but it was not delicious. It was our first and last visit a few months ago.

This place is not good any longer. Starting with the bread which we always enjoy, it was stale/off something wasn't right and we weren't the only ones to notice. The Cobb salad was good I asked for no chicken and they still charge full price but, many place discount or add more lettuce. Buffalo chicken wrap was chewy and sauce was not good. The teriyaki salmon was inedible so much sauce was overpowering although the salmon itself was cooked well, we could not get past the smothered sauce. Server wasn't overly friendly but they never are so why would today be different

Overrated. Dominated by a bar. Bland food. Service is good. Look is good. Exciting and fun. Looks although fun is always deserted. Looks like no one is there.

Average Joes is just average like they say. Scallops were boring, scallops on a skewer cooked over a flame and then served with brown rice and broccoli was just okay. Best item is their coconut breaded fried shrimp. Crab cakes were average but tasty enough. Even my ice cream sundae could use better ice cream and hot fudge as it tasted like the ingredients came from the supermarket.

I used to enjoy coming here, but since I've been last the place has become much Less Than Your Average Joe's Cheap ingredients, poor presentation and served mess hall style on dented tin, camping trays The service was great

After an unsatisfying meal at the Waltham location, I contacted Corporate. They were gracious enough to provide me with a $40 voucher to use at another time. Today, I took my two younger grands to the Acton location, which is a much smaller venue. Right off, I asked for coffee and was told I should reconsider as it had been made hours earlier. (I got iced tea, instead.) Again, I ordered the fish and chips ($22), which consisted of two pieces of fish on a bed of thinly sliced fries (no sides). The girls ordered one mac and cheese and one pasta with sauce ($9.95 @). Both were plates of elbow macaroni and looked identical. A refillable drink was included but no sides. The plates were on the smaller side and more appropriate for the kindergarten set. Knowing they'd be hungry, I let them choose a dessert to share. I did not ask for a menu, and the server (who was very pleasant) rattled off the list. They chose a lava cake with ice cream. Never did I expect to be charged $15 for this! Both locations were busy and are popular with families with children. I found the food pleasant but uninspired (typical chain food) and way overpriced. While I appreciated the second chance, I see no reason to return.

Glad we returned after 6-7 years. The baked haddock and fish and chips were both excellent. I would have preferred a larger portion of fish on my fish and chips. We will reorder the same on our next visit which will likely be in the near future when meet friends from the Boston area.

Not even average, Joe. I had the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. If it weren't for the grilled chicken it would have had absolutely zero taste. The dressing must have been all mayonnaise. The greens portion wise were pitiful. Come on, what does romaine cost? For almost $20, Joe should be embarrassed. Oh, and the waitress didn't ask me how it was. Maybe that's a given. Goodbye Joe.

The food is okay, nothing special. After many years of dining here I was treated terribly one evening while sitting at the bar reading. I have Asperger syndrome and it's clear I'm not your average "Joe," but I was just sitting eating and reading. There was no reason for the terrible treatment I received from management. They have no clue how to treat guests who have a disability, nor do they care to. DO NOT BRING A PERSON WITH A DISABILITY TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. THEY HAVE NO TOLERANCE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT "YOUR AVERAGE JOE."

We went there after reading the reviews. Every dish was super. The young lady was very accommodating with a wheelchair in the party. The meals we had were all very good. Will definitely go back when in the area.

Food here is pretty good. I usually get the impossible burger which is always amazing. This time I got the Ahi Tuna Cucumber Wontons and wow!!! So good.

Went for dinner with visiting friends. They recommended this establishment. My first observation was it is expensive. We did not have a reservation so we had a 20 minute wait. Since there were many empty tables it is obviously they are short on staff. Our waitress apologized as she was handling many guests. The hostess was good enough to bring our beverages. I ordered the Salmon. It was over cooked, but the favor was delicious. It came with broccoli stems which were blackened over flames but were not cooked. Not eatable. It came with a rice quinoa mixture that was just ok. My friends enjoyed their sandwiches and their French fries were delicious (they shared) I may try it again but will go with sides or sandwiches

We came here for dinner for the first time this past weekend and were a bit disappointed with our food. I had the mustard encrusted chicken, which was overcooked and dry. My wife had the burger, which she said was just average. The ambience of the restaurant was nice and the service was not bad. Overall, it was an OK dining experience, but left us a bit underwhelmed.

Visited Sun 02/19. Bread was cold..out of freezer? My Salmon was black, looked like a burned steak. Asked to send back, was given a bit of a hard time by manager, newsalmon was tough, salty and tired end piece. Mashed potatoes had so much butter in them I could not eat them. Aspagus looked like thin weeds. I looked forward to NYAJs but, will not return, has really gone downhill.

Well, NYAG was extremely average. We had the philly-steak egg rolls for an appetizer. They were "meh." My husband had a cup of clam chowder but the clams were AWOL ($8.00 for basically a CUP of potato soup). I had the Tomato Basil Soup and Grilled Cheese. The soup was good. The grilled cheese sandwich was large but way too much butter. My husband had the Mustard-crusted chicken, mashed potatoes and string beans. The chicken was good but the mashed potatoes had too much butter. We definitely give our server five stars but the food gets just three.

Been to several not your average joes. And the food is always decent. Had pizza... burgers.. other sandwiches. I have beee. Back a few times, but it is average. I would put it above most chains. Applebees or Chilis, but would prefer something more local and higher quality. It is just Average...

Pretty good casual American food restaurant. The portions are pretty big and fairly priced. It was quick, convenient and tasty

I just had the most delicious shrimp scampi pizza (DoorDash). The flavors were amazing and cooked to perfection. Absolutely the best non-traditional pizza I have ever had. Thank you to the Chef!

The food is bad, no getting around that. The drinks are fun though. The Pineapple Painkiller drink and the Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade were really good. The chicken parm and vodka penne with meatballs were not unfortunately. We did have a really good waiter by the name of Rob though! He was fantastic and the highlight of our evening.

Manager thinks he's so cool. He ain't!!!! Horrible service and gross food. Our waitress was so rude.

Just left the restaurant - food was fine but the place is filthy. There was a film of scum all over the plates, silverware and glasses. My son asked for new silverware and the replacement set was also covered in food. Women's bathroom was as expected - completely disgusting with puddles of water and pee near the toilet. The place needs a complete cleaning overhaul. UPDATE appreciated Management reaching out and offering gift card to come and try it again. Return visit was better... Same bartender thatstill was that friendly but definitely better.

We loved the onion focaccia and dipping oil. Our burgers were over cooked and actually pretty flavorless. The Arnold Palmer's were not balanced. We both were dying for a sweeter blend. The hostess was wonderful and attentive. Any restaurant on Tuesday afternoon can be hit or miss. Unfortunately today was a miss.

For some reason I feel like NYAJ gets a bad rap for being a chain but I can't help but love this place. It's a great go to when we want a casual easy dinner. I've always like the food and the bread and olive oil are the best. Service is always very friendly. I've definitely noticed a few times during the winter them being short staffed and low on bartenders but that's more reflective of the current food industry climate than NYAJ.

We had dinner here last night. We sat at the bar and our bartender Ashley was very attentive and hard-working. She took our orders and soon we had our hamburger and bolognese stew. I had a Ballast Point Sculpin, my wife had some Kim Crawford sauv blanc. Would like to see more craft beer IPA options on tap, but a lot of places still have the big breweries beers dominating the taps. Anyway, we enjoyed our time here, partly because the service was so good. Ashley was ably assisted by another woman whose name we didn't catch.

I think they may have been having an off night. I kept hearing some one yelling in the open kitchen "Just focus and cook". That being said, it took a long time for every thing. When we walked in, the hostess was frazzled - it took her a few minutes to get organized before she could even think about seating us. It took a while to get a waitress. Food took over 20 minutes to arrive. It took almost 10 minutes to pay. Food was decent. Grilled cheese was spot on and I was happy to see that the fruit was actual fresh fruit. Orange wedges and halved grapes. BUT the plate was very hot. And the fruit was placed directly on the hot plate. Which quickly resulted in wilted fruit. I thought the beverages were overpriced. $3 for fountain soda and $4 for bottled. I should have just had a beer instead! It probably would have been cheaper!

We usually go there a few times a year, definitely like this place. Good menu, good drinks, a keeper for sure. Check it out

Despite having reservations, we had about a five minute wait the day we visited NYAJ's. We amused ourselves by taking pictures of the beeper which looked like it may have been a Taser previously. First: Oh, the foccacia. Every trip to NYAJ's MUST include their bread with parmesan cheese olive oil dipping sauce. I would even go so far as to suggest going there and only eating that. The restaurant may not agree with that idea, but do it. Really. DH and I went here to celebrate his birthday (albeit two weeks later and one day shy of his birthday coupon's expiration date.) It's impossible to pass up a free entree and free dessert here...why would you!? He ordered the hangar steak rare, and OMG...to die for. I got a chicken Caesar salad which was a bit on the small side; that was actually a blessing in disguise because I was able to save room for the bananas foster bread pudding. Despite only finding one slice of banana, it was excellent. The food is almost always excellent, but the prices prohibit us for coming here more often.

Was in Acton a week ago with my group of friends. Worst service ever. Server was tall, skinny walking with an air, hair like a ballerina student. No clue at all about service. We had to ask for everything and she was always surprised!!!! Ask for sugar, bread, take out box, drinks, checks... no business working in a restaurant. Ruined the whole experience.

Went there last week for our 3rd time. We like seating in the bar area, but nothing was available so we tried the dining room. We waited at least 10 minutes for someone to at least greet us at our table, but that never happened so I checked the bar area once again. Fortunately something opened up so we sat there. Food prices have risen here (the chain) at a higher rate than any other place we have we have seen. I used to get steak tips but not at $29, so we chose sandwiches since we had a coupon. The bartender was great as far as service and she had waited on us in the past. But the total bill even after our coupon, was still higher than other places we get meals at so we are done.

Prices are steep but quality of meals are good. I really love the mustard crusted chicken and the potstickers. Tried the chocolate chip cookies over the weekend and they were warm, soft, and decadent! The bread is great here too. I do miss the toasted goat cheese salad with the raspberry vinaigrette though. I usually stop by here after a nail appointment for a drink and quick bite. Service is fast and bartender is super friendly.

i went here last week for the first time. To say it was bad is an understatement Constantly asking for more bread etc, the wait staff was so awkward (but tbh it was so funny), we never got a refill on water. i can get over the awkward and somewhat bad service but the food was HORRIBLE. I had the Mediterranean pizza and it was worse than a frozen pizza from the supermarket. the olives were just thrown on whole, the pesto did not even taste normal, and the peppers were huge slices. I never complain about food places and don't even have the yelp app, but I had to do it here because it was upsettingly bad. Also the prices were way too high with the quality of food I received.

First forgot to take a picture of my Backyard Burger* Which is their classic burger, served on a roll with white cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle and fries. Burger was cooked to perfection and their thin fries were perfect at medium well. Didn't have room for dessert of course after having some of their bread an olive oil dip with pepper and cheese before my burger LOL! Our sever was great and the atmosphere for lunch is as expected but service was spot on. I would definitely come back for sure, so give this place a try when you're in the area.

Had the mustard crusted chicken blt sandwich. I think the used half the usual amount of chicken. Lots of fries but expensive for the amount of chicken I got. Come on Joes you can do better.

When I arrived the host ushered me and my party to the bar section. At first this seemed okay as we were the only guests in the area. The bartender was our server and took our drink and food orders. The food came out perfect and tasted great. However towards the end of the meal the service dwindled I had to walk to the bar to collect my receipt and pay. The bartender was busy waiting on multiple tables in the bar section. He was also trying to pour beers and the keg was full of foam. So much foam that we finished our entire meal before he could check on us. Maybe a few more team members to help him out are needed. Still the food quality, atmosphere, and service was great. I hope things improve for the industry.
