Not Your Average Joe's - Westwood

Friendly service and the meals are so tasty and generously sized. My husband and I come here quite often for dinner and love that they have such a huge, varied menu. I think I have tasted nearly all the salads and they are all so delicious. Full of flavor and generous portions. The complimentary bread and garlic oil is also amazing. 👍 The peanut butter thing for dessert is very indulgent. So good, but huge! Definitely one to share.

Reserved a table for valentines day. We arrived on time 7:45pm (reservation time) and had to wait over 45 mins to be seated. Once seated we waited around 20-25 minutes but nobody came to serve us. I had to ask a passing waitress if our table was being waited on. Eventually got our food and drinks but left feeling less than satisfied with the service and wait.

We were pleasantly surprised with the flavor, quality, quantity and overall experience with this restaurant. 1st day husband asked for the meatloaf dish, 30 minutes in we were informed there were out. From there on, the restaurant manager took care of us and even went ahead to tell us the meatloaf was one of the best dishes and recommended we tried it, daring but we took him by his word and returned next day. He did not dissapoint. Then next day my chocolate was a mess but the food was sooooo delicious, and the service was so fantastic I didn't care. I did not leave a crumb in that plate. I loved the menu options, the had amazing offerings for different oalates and lifestyle. Definitely recommended and we will be returning.

They were able to separate foods for my kid who had aversion to jalapeños and lettuce. Which was great to allow him access to try new foods, albiet a known form of nachos. The pork was flavorful, a mixture of sweet and salty that I can not place but would want their marinade recipe. It was solid. The bread amazing as always, but light on the olive oil and heavier on cheese, maybe they changed the recipe since their Randolph test kitchen closed. I feel indifferent to it. The bread is the same, but the dip has so much cheese that it's changed. Like a grocery store changing around all its isles, it's different than it originally was. Is that for the good? Indifferent. While the food looked great, it was severely missing key flavors. No lemon in Chicken Piccata; which, while it had a ton of capers, which I like, just missing any acid and more one note, than flavor and tone. Chicken was cooked great. The watermelon sangria was mixed poorly, with my S.O. getting 90 percent of the alcohol of the entire pitcher she felt. Again, it didn't taste like watermelon despite looking great. Even asked for no ice in it, even if we got half a pitcher full. We expressed we didn't mind, still got served with ice, and it tasted like a watered-down drink. The sangria pitcher did make 4 glasses, but it was mostly ice, so it was just watery and nearly clear. Kid liked the burger, but what kid doesn't like a burger.

Overhaul everything was fine but not great. Except the service she was awesome. But some of the meals tasted "pre-prepared" and just heated up they didn't taste as though they had been freshly made from scratch. My Southwest chicken salad was drenched in so much dressing It was almost unedible (But the chicken was clearly freshly grilled). Of the six meals no one was saying "wow". In general the past couple years not your average Joe's has gone downhill. They are clearly trying to save money on both the drinks and the food to keep the margins up.

I do like this restaurant. The bartenders are really good and the food is always great. It is a bit loud when it's busy but that's not a deal breaker for me. Also the patio and firepit is nice. We usually sit at the bar unless we have a group.

I wish I could call this place average but it is not even close to being average. I have had better chicken at Popeyes. I stopped in for a quick bite to eat. After waiting a while to have my food order taken while sitting at the bar. My food came out really quickly and it looked sad and wasn't very good.

I'm pleasantly surprised. I was just having lunch with a friend and wanted to try this place since I work close. I didn't realize it was brunch on Saturday! I had the chilaquiles l, which were very good. The strawberry lime rickey amazing. The fried donut holes amazing. So glad we came. Our server so friendly.

I love them for the fresh foccacia bread dipped in the olive oil w pepper flakes, parmesean and herbs. The food selection is very comforting and tasty with good portions. My daughter had a burger and it was a big portion. The service was a lil slow but it was just my server but maybe just short staffed. The dining area is well lit with a view of the open kitchen. They change up the menu now and then with seasonal selections.

When they get it right, it's great. But when they get it wrong... I frequent this location for business meals. Sometimes, like today, I order meals to go home. This is the second time I've ordered Togo and the food was wrong by the time I got home an hour away. I ordered my son a kids chicken tender meal and when I got home it was all fish. Needless to say I had to go get food from another restaurant. Last time this happened I received 2 of the 5 meals were not anything we ordered. Very frustrating and at some point the bad will outweigh the good.

Came back a few times, this time we tried a couple of sandwiches which were ok honestly you could do better. The apps were pretty good and drinks good too. We always sit at the bar and the bartenders are really nice and friendly and give good suggestions.

Very boujee, pretty restaurant with a ton of space. The bar is nice, surrounded by TVs however I get annoyed when bars don't buy NFL ticket. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I wanted a fruity mule instead of the original and he made sure I got a raspberry one that I really enjoyed. The menu has a variety of options. We got the whipped feta dip to start and it was absolutely amazing- a generous portion with different items to dip. My boyfriend got the Bratwurst special (for October fest) which he loved. I got the sirloin tips which were okay- the mashed potatoes were good and the steak was flavorful but a little chewy. We would definitely come back here and try more menu items!

Came here for a lunch with my toddler. While there was a small hiccup in the beginning it was quickly resolved and we were treated like the princess and queen we think we are. The bar manager Jake was so attentive to our needs and made sure we had everything we needed. My husband and I love coming here. The mustard crusted chicken and peanut butter thing are my favorites. Next time we will be coming back toddler free. Thank you Jake for you attentiveness and caring for my daughter and I today.

Needed to take a moment to appreciate the Oktoberfest specials. I tried the Autumn spiced sangria, which was very interesting. The ginger beer gave it a little spiced kick, which I quite enjoy but understand it may not be for everyone when you order sangria. I also tried the butternut squash flatbread - seen here. UNBELIEVABLE! If you enjoy butternut squash / Brussels sprouts / pesto / balsamic / mozzarella....this is an absolute must. Best flatbread I have ever had. Ambience was lovely as always, feels like a home-y local place. And the service from the bar was fantastic! Honestly, best bar service I have had in quite some time. Thank you all!

Stopped in for dinner after some shopping nearby. No wait and a nice booth. Reception was fine, but waiter was very short with us - he did the required, but was running from table to table. Had two apps - chicken dumplings - okay and the dipping sauce was fine. Pork nachos - would have been better if hot instead of room temperature. There was guacamole on the chips that was ice cold from the fridge, so hot chips and pork would make the app much better. Bowl of clam chowder - looked a bit too watery, not very thick. We suggested this to our nephew, who was relocating to Boston area for graduate school at Northeastern. Two Cobb salads were typical - I think both had chicken on the salad. I had a caprese chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Sandwich was good - thick grilled chicken, with lettuce, cilantro and guac. Place was okay for a dinner after shopping. Not a destination restaurant, but okay.

This place has gone way down. I would NEVER go back. I was there yesterday with a friend. I ordered the tomato soup and grilled cheese. Soup was fine, grilled cheese was mediocre (didn't care for the way it was grilled). Friend ordered turkey club and asked if it was real turkey. The waitress told her yes, it was. She also asked for her fries to be crispy. She received her order: or was definitely deli turkey and the fries were cold. She told the waitress, who took the fries back and asked if she wanted something else. She ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Fries came back hot, not crispy. Manager came over and explained distributor sent in deli as there was no fresh, apologized and said he would notify wait staff. That should have been done upon opening. Soup and grilled cheese came out fine. SIDE NOTE: She was sick all night from it............... Again, will never go back!

Very active and noisy bar during sporting events. I frankly find the menu about tired. Salads are very good. They have minimal HP parking and do not enforce its use.

I think calling this place "Way Below Average Joe's" would be an overstatement. I ordered the jambalaya thinking it would be tasty, given it's listed as a "special." What I got was quite possibly the worst dish I have ever ordered at any restaurant. They dumped canned tomatoes, mixed in some tasteless shrimp, chicken, and sausage, and tossed in some microwave rice. Bland, cold, and no seasoning whatsoever. Service was mediocre to boot. Spend your money elsewhere.

I like going here because it's convenient and they are dug friendly outside., it's safe to get a burger or sandwich. The bread and oil alone are to die for.

Recently I visited the Not your Average Joe's location in Westwood. I am a big fan of this regional chain. Their menu is always varied and the service is usually very good. This last time I got their Korean BBQ wings appetizer. For about $15, I got 8 good size wings, they were all meaty and well seasoned...the wings were lightly fried in a crunchy batter and then tossed in a tangy sauce. Maybe they were a bit too salty for me, but I would say that for most people they were just right.

Great food and service. Glad they have vegetarian options. The veggie harvest bowl was fantastic. The waiters were very nice and accommodating. The ambiance is nothing special, kinda like a buffalo wild wings. It's solid though. Can't say anything bad about it

I was hosting a party of ten people with a variety of taste preferences. The manager placed us in a quiet spot so we didn't need to shout when talking to each other. We had one server for all of us. She did a great job balancing everyone's needs. She had assistance distributing our meals, which came out timely and accurate...and delicious. I pick and choose which places to go to based on their feedback, so we will likely return at a future date.

The restaurant has a cool vibe with plenty of TVs and good lighting. There is plenty of parking and it's located near a shopping plaza with everything you would need. The table comes with complimentary foccacia bread and addictive dipping sauce. Our server was attentive and service was very good. The crab cake was good, but the portion seemed a little underwhelming. The pulled pork mac and cheese was average. I would come back to watch a game and try the pizza or another appetizer.

Friendly happy staff greeted us at the door. Started with the whipped feta dip and a lemonade crush (unique lemon/vanilla profile is refreshing). The Gluten free cod and the Super Crunch salad were a hit. The restaurant is a welcoming space with room for larger parties and persons with mobility devices.

We eat here often and usually enjoy the staff, ambiance and food. This was our second visit where the food was dramatically subpar. Two weeks ago after several attempts they not produce a medium rare hamburger...the burger was consistently overcooked! Today our chicken caprese chicken sandwich had very dry chicken...the bread was not fresh and the sandwich lacked flavor (we had an appointment elsewhere so no time to return). Five years ago we had this same experience over several visits. We feel a need to take a hiatus and go elsewhere. Management should take notice to so that one day we can return!

I live close by and try so hard to like this place. My wife likes it because it's bright with lots of glass. But the bartenders always seem uptight and generally not attentive. I got a burger that was small and way over cooked. If you're going to reduce its size, you need to reduce its cooking time. I didn't have the energy to send it back. We sent meals back the last time we were there with the same bartenders. Sorry Joe, this might be it for us. Good luck

The burger and meatloaf were both a letdown--dry, flavorless, and just overall bad. Want my money back

Beware if you order online they won't call or text if it gets canceled. I showed up to pick up my order and it had been canceled. Email said that the restaurant location was closed. It was open and they said it must have been because they were out of something I ordered. They said they'd put a rush order in and "take care of me" then gave me one free sandwich. They did indeed rush the order but once it came out from the kitchen it sat for several minutes before they brought it to me. Because it had been rushed the fries were barely cooked. The staff was nice enough but I won't be going here again if I can help it.

We had the take out Turkey dinner, with all the sides. The Turkey breast was pre sliced, had gravy, excellent. Stuffing, Brussels sprouts, mashed potato, etc Surprised at how everything was packaged so well. Oh facchia bread.

Large portions and the burger was cooked perfectly. The service was excellent and seating was comfortable.

Very disappointed in Your Below Average Joe's (not my original joke)! I went for a networking meet up for my networking club that I joined for $150/month (email me if interesting in joining youngprofessionals@gmail.com). We waited 20 minutes before being asked what we want to drink to which I responded "a bargs root beer of course my fine gentleman" but the waiter did not laugh like normal so I removed a star. As normal while we waited and waited for our food I was making jokes, which my peers were laughing at because I am so funny. The business people next to us found my joke offensive and asked me to quiet down so naturally I said "oh f u I have my first amended". He told the waiter who had our food packed up in to go boxes and asked us to leave. I will not be returning.

Shrinkflation hit this place hard I guess. Ordered a fish and chips to go and it came with 2 tiny pieces of fish. The salad had 3 small pieces of chicken on it. You guys are joking right?

Absolutely terrible, rude obnoxious manager. Waitress seemed so out of it and disappeared once larger parties came in. Practically threw take out at me from manager. Sooo many choices in the area, everyone better. The Chateau and Mick Morgan's blow below average Joes away! Stay away!

I liked the ambiance of this place. I've been to this chain before and the bread and dip are amazing. However, I was disappointed by my meal. Hate to say it, but my meal was pretty average.

The food here was extremely average, not at all deserving of the inflated price tags. For appetizers, I've tried the fried calamari, coconut shrimp, and the nacho average nachos. - The name for the nachos is cute and clever. The taste was great, but not at all worth $10.75. it was literally just a few chips drizzled in sauce and cheese, with a few sparse pieces of chicken and barely any avocado salsa present (see picture for reference). - The coconut shrimp was tasteless and not golden at all, more like an over-fried brown. Once again, for $12.50 I was not impressed. - The fried calamari is exactly what you'd expect so definitely not worth $14.25. I typically see fried calamari go for $8-$11 or so at other fine dining establishments. For the main course, I got the a spaghetti dish, forgot the name but a picture of it is attached - I think it's the spaghetti squash mushroom veggie bolognese. The flat pasta (pappardelle?) was really good, the texture and taste made it seem fresh and homemade which was a pleasant surprise! But the rest of the dish fell flat. You can see in the picture the dish looked very meh and was mostly just sauce.

I had the sheet pan nachos with bbq pulled pork. They were extraordinary. I will be getting them whenever I am in that area attending events at The Skating Club of Boston.

Nice place for enjoying comfort food with family and friends. The bar and dining areas are kept very clean. There's indoor and outdoor service, but there's a serious lack of staff still, which causes customers to wait a while to be seated even though there are numerous tables open. The cocktails and food are well prepared and tasty. I had the Classic Margarita, a cup of New England clam chowder, a small pepperoni pizza, and an order of French fries to celebrate National French Fries Day ;-). Everything was brought out quickly and flavorful. Overall, I enjoy my visit, but the lack of servers and bartenders in the restaurant industry is very evident here; I hope that can be fixed soon.

Every time I'm here I'm ordering the painkiller, they make them perfectly. I've now tried the meatloaf dish, salmon teriyaki and Korean noodle bowl and they're all excellent. I like the variety on the menu, I've made it a point to try a new dish each time, haven't been disappointed yet. Great service, staff is always friendly when my partner and I stop by ( He's ordered the mustard chicken several times now, loves it ) Definitely will be stopping by again soon!

Must give a shout out to Matt our waiter, Jack the bartender and Jill working behind the bar at Not your average Joe's in Westwood. Went to have dinner last night 1/19 for the first time there. It was very busy, and we waited a little bit before Matt came over. But once he did the evening went uphill very quickly. Excellent service, drinks were spot on and the food was good. Highly recommend the clam chowder, just delicious. Would highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. Thanks, Matt, for the fun time last night! Rich & Mary

This IS your average joe's. Nothing was super impressive. The ambiance was nice, everything was clean, the service was good. However, the food was the disappointment. I got the mustard crusted chicken and it wasn't anything special. It wasn't bad but it wasn't mind blowing. The mashed potatoes were the star of the dish. My gf got the turkey avocado club and was very disappointed. The main problem were the giant hunks of turkey on the sandwich. Nobody wants to eat a sandwich with meat sliced that thick. The rest of the table thought their food lacked seasoning. Two people got burgers and were slightly undercooked and definitely under seasoned. I think the redeeming factor here was the cheese steak eggrolls which were very good and the bread and oil they bring you which was amazing! Nothing was super terrible all the food was just average.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch on the patio with friends before attending a concert at Gillette. Large menu to pick from, including some fun cocktails. The complimentary focaccia and oil was excellent, everyone loved it. Chicken wings were jumbo sized and really tasty! The server was attentive and pleasant, great job with our party of 6. We would love to see a location open in New Hampshire!

HUGE at-a-boy to server Sean - this young man is on top of his game - very efficient, proactive and engaging - in fact, we kid him that he should be serving at a 5-Star Hotel/Restaurant! We love the ambiance and vibe at this location being across the way from the Westwood shopping area, it is super convenient and plenty of parking available. The staff is always awesome - a testament to the management being Brian (GM) and Bar Mgr (Jake) - all super nice and passionate about earning customers for life. To top it all off, the food is always consistently great! Fresh, cooked properly and presented impeccably!

Well, hello Joe! You're way above average. Let me tell you! This chain restaurant has a great vibe. Love the industrial modern look. I came during lunch and it was busy. I recommend making reservations. Thank you, OpenTable! I was able to get my table while waiting for the rest of my party. My waitress greeted me with the best warm bread ever. Omg. That dipping oil with pure goodness! Who minds waiting when you can stuff your face?? Not me! After the rest of my party arrived, we proceed with lunch entrees. My party ordered the poke bowl, chicken ceasar, and the pecan salmon. The salmon was amazing!!!! The perfect size for lunch. I love the sweet mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts too. Don't let the chain restaurant fool you. The food is off the chain here! After our lunch meeting, we were able to hang out to finish up our meeting. So nice to be at a restaurant that doesn't shove you out. Definitely would go back for a meeting, lunch, or whatever!

My office is in the Area and "Not your Average Joe's" is our to-go place for Team lunches. We have never had to wait very long for a table and we are usually a 6-8 group. (Not sure how busy they get over dinner though..) Upon seating down, and after getting a round of water, they serve delicious bread with a Parmesan olive oil thingy that is sooo good. I could eat my weight in bread,, and I usually do, #NoRegrets The last time I visited I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza which I ate by myself but could easily be shared, specially after eating all that bread. I gave a piece to a coworker and he thought the BBQ sauce was too spicy. I thought it was great. A lot of my coworkers are vegetarian and they felt pretty happy with the vegetarian options. Other health-conscious coworkers really recommend the salmon salad, which did look good, but it's hard to compete with Pizza.

I remember when Westwood Station was a bunch of warehouses and businesses not the planned development it is now Anyway, I was meeting a friend for dinner and was given two choices Not Your Average Joe's or DelFriscos Didn't feel like a steak...my friend told me that this was a nice Not Your Average Joe's...or simply put, Not Your Average Average Joe's And it isn't.... This place is huge in a modern yet industrial motif...it's like someone said let's not make this place average Anyway, it was packed, so we sat at the bar for some microbrews..everything is microbrews these days What was surprising was the food....I enjoyed eating the Mustard Chicken. Way better than average It was tasty..they even let me swap to steam carrots that weren't rubbery This was not an average experience. Service was good, food was borderline great and the place is nice It's not an Average alternative in Westwood

I am in Boston for work all week......NYAJ's is across from my hotel, so I thought "why not?". Got a table quick, an attentive waiter, ordered a 9 oz glass of wine (the have Cakebread!) upon seating, and then ordered the Seared Tuna Ahi salad based on waiter recommendation (vs. the ahi tuna poke bowl). I wanted something lighter. Outcome = Spot on for a fast casual place. Even though its the middle of winter, the salad was pretty darn fresh, the seared tuna was actually not to bad either - I wish there was more (I like tuna), and the dressing was citrusy and not overpowering. The side of ginger was a nice surprise and tasted fresh. Honestly a decent meal and experience. What can I say other than NYAJ's met my needs and exceeded my expectations for a fast casual place. Please keep up the good work! PS: I like NYAJ's better than the other place across the parking lot.

Buddy said his super crunch salad was real good. My chicken poke boil was ok. Waitress was nice. Everything was good. Little above average. I can't do a 3.5 so you got the 4.

I want to start by saying that typically NYAJ's is one of my favorite places and I understand COVID has put a strain on things this is really like a 3.5/4 star thing. That being said, I picked up a to-go order a little while ago and I am genuinely disappointed in what I got. I ordered the egg rolls, which I've had several times before, and they are so overcooked they are literally hard to eat. I've attached a picture. I am happy patio and indoor dining are back and people all seemed quite happy with their meals there, it seems as if take out is a lesser priority. I guess my biggest issue is that since it was take out I can't send it back and I also can't eat it. Bummer :(

The big pull of this place was its proximity to the hotel. The thing I suspect makes this a hot-spot for locals is the upscale feel to a sports bar and grill. Great, clean design with - sophisticated not tacky. Big screens provided plenary of viewing for the Monday Night game. It's a friendly sports bar that doesn't feel like a sports bar. Great bartender made a "perfect Manhattan" to perfection and the Korean BBQ Salmon salad was on the money. Uniquely loaded with cabbage and spinach - the salad itself has a subtle and tabby dressing with slices of pickled ginger throughout. And the salmon was spectacularly cooked to order (medium-rare) with a great Asian bbq marinade.

NYAJ was a favorite years ago when we lived in Needham. I got the mustard chicken every time - so simple but so tasty. We went to the Westwood location tonight and it was just as good as I remembered. The garlic bread and dipping oil are delicious - I could have made a meal out of them. We got the sweet and spicy cauliflower bites for an appetizer which were fantastic but the slaw they were served with was amazing. It was crunchy yet melted in your mouth. Amazing taste and texture. One of my top five appetizers ever. For dinner I got the haddock with mashed and broccoli which was delicious. My husband got the teriyaki salmon bowl and thought it was great. The place was packed with many waiting for tables but service was quick, friendly and efficient. (Reservations are highly recommended.) Really enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

People are so quick to leave negative reviews but I thought I would take a moment to compliment the staff at NYAJ in Westwood for their excellent service. I stayed at nearby hotel and made an online order but instead of choosing Westwood I ordered at Waltham. Obviously they could not find my order when I arrived but GM Brian called the Waltham store to cancel while host Stefan entered my order to be fulfilled. All of this with no additional cost to me. Refreshing to see that great service still exists in 2023 even when the customer is obviously at fault.

2.5 stars True to its name, Not Your Average Joe's is slightly below average. The burger that I got was really dry and disappointing. But the plus side is the decor is modern and everything looks new. I don't recommend the higher tables as the seats were extremely uncomfortable. They have a huge outdoor section which would be perfect in the summertime. All the menu items have calories attached which is sort of like that aunt of yours who reminds you when you've gained some weight. Yes it's appreciated! But it's also jarring and makes you hate life and your limited options. It really brings to reality that so many restaurants struggle to make tasty meals that are also healthy. Anything they had that sounded even slightly appetizing was well over 1,000 calories! Heart monitor anyone?

Ate here twice in the two days we spent in Boston. I really like the atmosphere and menu selection here, and the service was very friendly and helpful. A high and lofty ceiling really makes the place feel grand. There's something for everyone, and everyone in my party was very happy with their menu choices - from soups and sandwiches to salads and pizza. I will say that many of the dishes that were ordered in my party contained a little too much garlic (in the Buffalo Chicken pizza, bread, etc.) and I did enjoy the New England Clam Chowder that was offered, but I did notice unwelcome crunchy sandy bites on two different occasions, but this is not entirely uncommon. Overall, if I was ever back in town or saw another Not Your Average Joe's in my travels, I would be more than happy to dine here again.

If you have money to waste come to this place...have been three times now over the last few years and every time ive left hungry and frustrated This time we ordered the steak and cheese egg rolls for 15 dollars..I was shocked when it came with two tiny egg rolls cut in half...the 18 dollar Mac and cheese with pulled pork looked like it came off the kids menu...the 18 dollar salad had the tiniest piece of chicken on it...the taste of the food was all OK not terrible but nothing good enough to make you want it again...the 11 dollar beer might be the most surprising...some of their alcohol prices are more than Boston...I won't ever be going back Service was a little slow but honestly would not have even thought about it if I wasn't sitting there starving pondering what I was going to order at the closest drive thru on the way home.

I would rate Joe solidly above average. I got the Mediterranean pizza, which was really good, but watch out its gigantic. If you go here, make a reservation online, and let em know Rick sent you.

After Jimmie from guest relations reached out to try to rectify our experience, we gave it another shot. Definitely a much better experience for us! Went here on a Saturday about 4:30 for a meal and were not disappointed. My husband ordered the meatloaf, and we ordered the pizza for our toddler. I had the haddock with Brussels sprouts and broccoli and Brussel sprouts were soooo good. They also have huge portions, we had to take some food home (maybe we filled up on bread too much too?) Luke provides great service, came right away, brought drinks in a timely manner and always checked in! He even brought my toddler an ice cream cup at the end, which made her day. Definitely glad we went back!
