The Best Veggie Burgers in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"What started as NDG’s best kept secret has become one of Montreal’s very best burger establishments; now a growing chain with new location sin the works for the Plateau, Gay Village, and various suburbs. Notre Boeuf has collaborated with everyone from Lesley Chesterman to the team at McKiernan Luncheonette, and also happens to put major emphasis on their plant-based options. Poutine is very liquidity and the double cheese burger was quite dry. Service was fast, but they were too fast with the bill once they took away our plates. My wife’s burger was good though- the issue is more the poutine . Disappointed

Google
I do not recommend this restaurant at all. My boyfriend and I had a very bad experience. We called the restaurant to place an order, and they told us we could pick it up in 20 minutes. My boyfriend arrived on time, but the order wasn’t ready, and they made him wait an additional 30 minutes, only to give him the wrong order. So I had to go back to get our correct order. When I finally got home with the food, we were in for an unpleasant surprise when we opened the box. The fries were hard and burnt, completely inedible. My burger didn’t even have lettuce, and my boyfriend’s burger was missing ingredients listed on the menu, like avocado. And we’re talking about a $20 burger—they basically gave us garbage. We were so upset. I don’t even know if I should call and complain. I do not recommend spending your money at this place. There are other restaurants that are cheaper and much better, like Kapsalon or really any other place—except this one.

Google
Ordered a smash burger — got a sad, undercooked puck instead. Most places ask how you want your burger cooked; here, apparently raw is the default. Poutine? Ordered regular, got some weird tater tot version. Total mess. Won’t order this again. Save your money.

Google
We had a nice and delicious experience. Burgers and beers are really good and tasty. Staff are very nice and friendly. We will definitely come back.

Google
Best burgers, lovely staff, excellent vibes! Great children’s menu, too - so everyone was happy! (9-year-old insists it’s better than MacDonalds, lol - which I don’t hesitate to agree with!) Open late! (great if you’re jet lagged!)

Google
Horrible. We ordered through Uber eats and had such high expectations for these burgers but this was so much worse than the cheapest burger joint in our neighborhood. The burgers are like eating a rubber sole, there's no salt, no flavor, no joy just pure grease taste in the beef although there was not much grease to be fair. The mushrooms didn't have any salt either and there was nothing else except for mayo, cheese and the aforementioned ingredients.

Google
This was a very random pick. We were hungry and just looking for a place, ended up with this gem. The fries? 100% recommend. The virgin strawberry daiquiri was SO GOOD!! Looking to come back here to sample the brunch menu :)

Google
Burgers were overwhelming good Great service fun atmosphere.. never had a cheeseburger with grilled cheese sandwiches for buns before was messy could not finish it was massive but was fantastic Tator tots awesome. Wedge salad was very good highly recommend and the pretzel is a must.. if your looking for an epic cheat meal and outrageously great burgers and great sides ..definitely try this place

Yelp
Not sure if this is the correct one, but the spot on Wellington in Verdun is awesome. Chill vibe, busy even on a Sunday evening. Double cheddar burger was the shiznit. A bit pricy but nice.

Yelp
When this joint opened, almost 10 years ago, it was hella tasty. The meat quality was way above average for a burger, the poutine had a unique vegetarian gravy, the house drinks were always tasty. Now, it seems to have lost its vibe and flavour. The meat patties are now are, I dunno bland. Almost seems like the meat quality has decreased. I'm pretty sure the poutine gravy has changed and there's no way I'm paying for their house lemonade. I'm a bit sad. It was a favourite spot of mine when I lived in the area. I don't know if it has changed or it's me, but just doesn't taste like the original quality.

Yelp
I had been wanted to try this for awhile and finally convinced my wife to do so. of course the order shows up and her sub is missing. needless to say we wont be going back.

Yelp
A go to spot for great burgers, brunches or desserts. Servers are always friendly and the music they play rarely disappoints. Their lattes are on par with most cafes I've been to, and they cook Impossible burgers better than anywhere else. They also have some seriously good sangria and other cocktails. Can't recommend this place enough.
google avatar

Robert D.

Yelp
The décor is cool and it's great having a DJ. The service was the worst I've experienced in a long time. We waited 20 minutes to have a server come to the table (who we had to wave down). The food came first before the cocktails- which were watered down. Food was mediocre. I will never go back here!

Yelp
Moderate priced snd delicious food. Good portion size, and gamily friendly. Staff is friendly too.

Yelp
They list vegetarian options on the menu but beware - veggie burgers are cooked on grill with beef fat. I asked if they made an error with my vegetarian burger as it smelled like beef and was told they had not - but was then informed that they cook on same grill with beef patties. This makes it no longer vegetarian. It is a bit like having non-alcoholic beverages offered and then finding out that some have a bit of alcohol in them. No problem if they don't have vegetarian options - as it is beef restaurant- but don't tell people that you do. Bad practice.

Yelp
Not clean mediocre food and service is too slow. Too expensive for the quality. Not recommending it

Daniel M.

Yelp
The burgers are amazing, and the food, in general, is like the tater tots. The services are great, and the managers are flexible. The ambiance is just like an average burger place. Overall, I love this restaurant.

Yelp
I asked for a WELL-DONE hamburger steak, and it came back red in the middle. It was so bad, that I had to vomit in the restroom. Then they duplicated the charge, so now I have to dispute it with my credit card company. What a head-ache.

Yelp
Best. burger. In. Montreal. I was escaping from a snowstorm and found some shelter in this temple. The staff greeted me and showed me to my seat. I ordered a beer and 'The Heroe'. Whomever cooked this burger is the hero we need, and the hero we deserve. Have you ever seen that HIMYM episode when Marshall had a religious encounter with a hamburger? It was just like that. Taste, texture, size, juicy, perfection. I want to be rescued again by this amazing burger and its delicious fries. I highly recommend this joint. I need to come back and try other stuff on their menu, but I think it will be a challenge passing on the Heroe. Good staff, fair prices, nice decor, and exquisite hamburgers.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the brunch here and I honestly think that it is better than their dinner. We had great service, delicious comforting food and all that at a good value. I came here with a friend at around 9:45 on a Saturday morning. The location is good, with parking easy to find on the side streets. When we walked in, we were greeted by a waitress who then seated us. The place is small so I'm sure it can get busy later in the morning. There was one other couple there when we arrived but it filled up by the time we left. Their menu is filled with unique options and everything looked amazing. My friend and I decided to share the first two things on the menu because one looked too small and the other, too large. We had: Simple classic ($9):two eggs, grilled beef salami, with sliced challah toast and tater tots J.D's classic ($16):two eggs, grilled beef salami, bacon, turkey sausage, sliced challah toast, challah French toast with maple syrup and tater tots The food came out quickly and was fresh and hot. We both loved it. I love the jewish-inspired food (challah and beef salami) and it reminded me a bit of Arthur's without the pretentiousness and tiny portions. I can't wait to try other things on their menu. Two small downsides. It cost 3$ for filtered coffee which I found pretty steep. Also, there was no fruit with the meal (not even an orange slice) so the plate lacked a bit of colour. Overall: 4.5 stars

Yelp
Maybe because I had it delivered by uber eats but I wasn't a fan. Burger was huge cold and soggy, no flavour. French fries were half cooked. The fried curds were so greasy it stained my table cloth. Maybe If I actually went to eat there it might be better but so far it's a no go.

Erika D.

Yelp
The food is good, some burgers are better tasting than other ones, my fav is fancy chick but there's one for every taste. The order takes a long time to arrive at the table and i find it is expensive. Two burgers and two drinks almost 70 dollars with the tip and taxes. I mean they use good ingredients but it's a lot for a burger. (At least for me)

Massimo L.

Yelp
Food was really salty. No plates were given for appetizers. Stay away from calamari it's legit just fried batter with no fish inside. Burger was alright but not worth the price. Kitchen didn't look too clean either and saw some of the cooks eating the food that was being served...

Yelp
On top of being fantastic food, this place has really great service. We ordered three burgers and they were all warm and tasty. Their sweet potato fries and spicy Mayo were also totally worth it. Better than the regular fries I find. What I really wanted to share is that they forgot one of our three hamburgers, I called back to share that this had happened and they went out of their way to correct the mistake. Genuine customer service is rare nowadays and I want to applaud them. One of their employees ended up hand delivering our third hamburger and included an extra dessert and some ice cream on top of doing this super fast regardless of excessive demand on a Saturday night. So thank you to this restaurant for making our take out night worth it. We will definitely be going back and I encourage everyone else to try them out :)

Yelp
I was here recently - just at the tail end of terrasse season - for a wonderful brunch in the sun with a gaggle of ladies and babies. We descend with total chaos when we brunch and only the best restaurants survive, and NBG not only survived but thrived under the pressure. The kids all ate happily (read: made a total mess) while the moms enjoyed their beautiful plates and even more beautiful Bloody Ceasars. My personal favourite touch for brunch here is tater tots with everything, and I loved my dish which was a take on breakfast tacos. With tater tots. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and the ingredients are fresh and local wherever possible. NBG has proven itself an amazing addition to this neighbourhood.

Yelp
Amazing food always fresh served and very tasty The waiters and staff very polite and the go out of there way to make the client happy 10/10
google avatar

Yelp
The food is pretty good, as you can customize and make your own burger. I find it a bit pricey considering that it doesn't come with fries or any sides. The ambiance is ok. We came here on a hot summer day and they weren't any AC (or seems to be) so we just wanted to leave quickly. I didn't find this place particularly impressive. Don't think I would go back.

Yelp
A solid burger establishment! My dad wanted one of Montreal's best burgers so he did some research and selected it as it was close. Service was friendly and good. Their burger selection is standard, build your own, or select a specialty. I decided to go for a Brie burger, with brie cheese, bacon, arugula and dates (though I asked for no dates). It was perfectly cooked and I enjoyed it. The fries are also standard excellent Montreal style. My dad got a NINE ounce burger and he demolished it so I guess he enjoyed it. What I especially like is that a side of fries or rings or whatever is only $3-$4. Do not get the jerk spice on your fries unless you really like jerk spice :)
google avatar

Denise K.

Yelp
The Pro: The burger was great as you create your own! However even with tons of toppings 6 ounces is pricey once you add on all the extras and leaves you unsatisfied. The Cons: The onion rings are not homemade. They are McCain's grocery store onion rings. The secret sauce is nothing more than a concoction to be avoided. The banana split dessert was one whole banana with a scoop of ice cream and tons of whipped cream that my colleague couldn't eat. We had to request cutlery, napkins, etc as the staff was very self involved despite of the fact that there were only 3 tables being served on a Sunday evening. Finally, even though they are supposed to close at 11:00PM, staff started moving tables, cleaning, stacking the tables next to us and washing the floors around 10:15PM!

Yelp
Fantastic burgers, fantastic fries! One of the best places in NDG! The place is affordable, quality of dishes is very high! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The only negative is that I ate too much. I have heard so much about this place and finally tried it this evening. I was not disappointed. As a vegetarian it's hard to find good places to enjoy a good veggie burger. I have found the perfect place. Their poutine is vegetarian as well. I tried it. Not the best poutine I've had but it is very good. The burger was messy but delicious. Large portion and very fair price too. Their potato skins, fries and onion rings are AMAZING. My wife and I shared the 'Ménage a Trois' side dish. It's big enough to be a meal. If you haven't been there, you're missing out. Chances are you'll see me there again soon, and often!

Yelp
racist menu item - Chicken Wangs? Does it get more blatant? Was going to order but this totally put my off - nevermind
google avatar

Pat M.

Yelp
I got what i expected : a good burger and good fries nothing more. Nice service, nice decoration, seems clean. Only 1 mix washroom ..
google avatar

Eve M.

Yelp
The service as far as waiter/waitress was good. The kitchen service however was beyond slow. We waited an hour for 3 burgers and two poutines. The burger was good, though I'm not the biggest fan of the "pretzel bun"- the poutine is not the greatest. When you think of a Montreal poutine the poutine you get here is not that. It's my second visit - i decided to give it another shot and unless there's an occasion like birthday dinner or something that I'm invited to I don't think I'll return.

Yelp
Terrific burgers, fries and drinks. You can tell the meat is super-fresh as is everything else they use. Great casual and easy vibe and a great location on Sherbrooke street West in NDG's eastern side of town right before Decarie. They also have a terrasse which seems to be hopping during the summer months. It's got a bit of a hipster vibe to it but not annoyingly so. I came here for lunch but made a mental note to try to come here for brunch sometime, their brunch menu sounds amazing.

John G.

Yelp
I've eaten here many times as my daughters live around the corner while going to school and it has been my go to place to take them when I visit. I always liked the staff, the ambiance and the food. It will be quite sometime before we go again. Not to kick a place in tough times but the management needs to get it's head around how to manage during the current COVID situation. After waiting 1/2 hour for our food, it dawned on me that it was taking a long time. Why? The restaurant was seated to half capacity, there seamed to be plenty of staff. The staff, particularly the kitchen staff, seemed to be working full out???? It took a bit but I realized while waiting another 15 minutes (45 in total now) that lots of orders were going out but it was all for Uber Eats, DoorDash etc . Apparently, meeting the metrics for these services was more of a priority than serving people who were in the restaurant. After an hour our food arrived but by that time we really didn't care what it was like as we were starving. At a $130 for burgers and drinks for four, we deserved to treated better than second class. I wasn't the only unhappy customer and really felt for the two moms with the four kids...... I waited a week to reflect before writing this review, but how disrectful ourselves and the other dinners were treated still smarts. Hope that the Uber Eats and DoorDash reviews were good.

Yelp
The Burgers are Fantastic! Had the Swiss Burger with a spicy mayo to change it up, shared the Jerk Fries - Wow! We definitely will be coming back on a regular basis

Elle O.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from here and were very impressed with the handle and care to make sure our food arrived without any issues. Things were packaged tightly and separately so that dry things didn't get soggy, and cold things didn't get warm! Tbh -- because of the tight seating indoors, we might stick to delivery even when indoor dining is allowed again. (Altho nothing beats sitting outside on their terrace when the weather is nice. Sigh.... to dream of the resto experience again...)
google avatar

Imane M.

Yelp
Had very good service, it's nice to have this kind of place in the neighbourhood. Downside, they don't have a licence to drink on the terrasse so you can't pretty much have a beer on a sunny day outside. The Divine choice on the menu is very similar to a Big Mac but really tasty ! Would recommend for a casual chilling
google avatar

Josephine P.

Yelp
Biased to this place because it is a street away from my house and they have the option to make your own burger. The place has a really casual vibe, the staff is polite and check on you often. This is not my favourite burger place, but it is affordable and I am sure to keep going here. Their tandoori sauce (being Indian of course!) and their special secret sauce is my favourite. I usually get the Red Wine Sangria or the beer. The fries are enormous portion (has to be shared by three), you have to order it separate. There aren't many tables here so there is a bit of line up on weekends. Highly recommend this place to my friends and family
google avatar

Vanessa P.

Yelp
First impressions: Easy parking, good location, very casual, friendly atmosphere but small space with maybe 20 tables. Expect to wait a little before getting seated. Now onto food and drinks: FANTASTIC. Its one of the most fun menus I have seen in a while. Endless choices of hamburgers since you can build your own or choose one already "built" If you're a sauce lover like I am, your mouth will salavate while choosing between the secret sauce, spicy mayo, Umami, ranch-chiptole...and the list goes on. The fun part about this place is that they have a " Burger Of The Month " so the variety is definitely A+. The beer batter onions rings were absolutely delicious and so was my make your own burger. The meat is melt in your mouth delicious BUT definitely not the place for you if you dont like your meat pink! I like that they warn customers about the meat being pink on the menu. The choice of buns include : fresh bread, onion bread and lettuce wrap. The bread was indeed fresh and delicious. Perfect texture. The only thing I dont really recommend would be the fried pickles. Too much pickle to batter ratio - Ive had better! There is not a big drink selection but definitely quality over quantity! I took the white sangria and it was great. My friends took a bloody ceasar and mojito and they were all fantastic as well. The service : 5 star. Friendly waitress and very helpful with questions. Answered everything with a smile and some excitement. I think she loves the food too! Conclusion : If youre in the NDG area and looking for an awesome burger and love your meat pink definitely try this place! I know I will be coming back for sure.

Yelp
Oh this place was a great surprise . Location was perfect we found parking right away. The brunch line moved so quickly and the staff was really pleasant...our waiter kept forgetting about us (I'm assuming), but other staff members were right on it...a bus person gave us our menus since waiter and host forgot. Then she took a while to come and ask for our order but when we did our food came so quickly. I had the animal fri3s to start which were mouth watering but way more of a serving than I expected. My partner got the onion rings which for 1$ extra u can hve some special honey which was really rich also came w special sauce ..delish! Main course he got the bbq chicken sandwich and i got the veggie burger and wooow sooo good full of flavour i cannot complain

Yelp
Tonight John and I went for dinner at Notre-Boeuf-de-Grace located at 5732 Sherbrooke O in NDG. For those of you who were distraught when hearing of the closure of the iconic D.A.D's Bagels, here's the resto that replaced it! We have been wanting to go ever since it opened and we are so glad that we finally went. Upon arrival, you sit wherever is available in the small but very cozy room. There are two televisions, brick and wood walls and very nice booth seats on one side of the room. There is also a small bar where you can sit and watch the chefs work their magic. John ordered the $5 shake of the day - chocolate of course, the Divine burger (which the waitress described as a Gourmet Big Mac) with fried egg and bacon, devils which were bacon wrapped yams and chicken wings. I have a pretty bad case of lactose intolerance but I had one sip of the shake and it was delicious. It resembled the shakes at Baton Rouge but with more ice cream and without the high price. John said it was like a Belleville shake (which is a really good thing apparently). I didn't try the burger but John finished it in about two seconds and said "Now THAT'S a burger!" so it must have been amazing. The bacon wrapped yams were very interesting and had a great taste to them, it's something I would make at home for sure because let's be honest, wrapping anything in bacon makes it a billion times better. The wings were good- they had a kick when you got parts with the sauce on it but other than that, they were pretty plain wings. I ordered the poutine (move over lactose intolerance, I love cheese too much). It tasted amazing. They had a sauce that involved a type of seed I can't put my finger on (from what I could tell) and they also had scallions on top which left a really good aftertaste. Their fries are also AMAZING. Since it is such a cozy restaurant, we were pretty close to the family of five next to us (three sons- ADORABLE) and everyone minus the youngest had fries included with their meal and just having the fries by themselves looked delicious. The restaurant was very good with having kid friendly dishes. They had catered to whatever the family asked for their youngest child and the family took pictures of the children sitting on the booth side of the room. You know a restaurant is good when it's worthy of family photo shoots. Looking at the menu, they also serve cocktails, their own house beer and house soda. Overall, the service was VERY fast, very friendly and we will definitely be going back to try more of the menu options. They also have veggie burgers for those who are vegetarian.

Kinky J.

Yelp
So this is the 3rd time we order from here first time we were ecstatic was so yummy....second time was not super but we guessed it was cause it was busy.....but this time Holy.... I had tropical chicken burger when it got here was SO wet the bread was uneatable so much sauce everything drenched in it...come on that just seems like cooks that don't care that wouldn't of passed in restaurant... My wife's burger divine inspiration was so wet too she are the meat without bread....the jerk fries....they put so much spices on it wasn't only too spicy but just too much on there.....I should of called restaurant to get money back... Barely ate anything except for amazing fried mars bar Let me tell ya I won't be ordering from here again beware they offer delivery but maybe they shouldn't since everything is drenched when you receive it
google avatar

CT M.

Yelp
Great selection of gourmet burgers, sides, and cocktails. While the gourmet burger thing is a bit overdone, Notre-Boeuf-de-Grâce does it very well. They have a solid selection of house creations, but you can also build your own. Their cocktails also help them stand out. There's a selection of house specials, but they'll do a decent job of mixing just about any stable you'd think to order while eating a burger. Seating is sometimes a challenge. The place is often busy, but I guess that, too, is a reflection of the food.

Mike S.

Yelp
Went there while on vacation since it's near my hotel. I ordered the biblical Brie with French fries and it was great. Discovered I like arugula which comes on it. I recommend this place
google avatar

Adrian G.

Yelp
I happened to have a hankerin for some fried chicken and NBG has fried chicken. One of those rules I usually follow is stick to the thing the restaurant does best. The burgers are really good. The buffalo chicken burger was a solid ok. The service is nice and the location is great. I don't often have a strong desire for burgers but when I do NBG is the place to go in NDG.
google avatar

Donna V.

Yelp
What better way to enjoy LabourDay ... Decided to head to this new burger joint that everyone has been raven about... Can't believe we've waited this long to come by... The burgers were delicious and the cocktails were tasty and well portioned, the service was great, our waitress Britney was really on top of things and made our experience pleasant! Great music made for A+ ambiance ... Clean new establishment and totally worth stopping by
google avatar

Ali A.

Yelp
Not a fancy place but you find good burgers here. There are relatively few tables and you probably have to wait for a few minutes to get a table. Staff are extremely nice and polite. Menu well priced and interesting beverages to pick from.
google avatar

Gabrielle L.

Yelp
Great burger joint in NDG! There's a terrace out front which is perfect for summer. There's also the option of creating your own burger which I ended up doing. What really impressed me about this place though are the sides. We ordered onion rings and potatoes skins because we thought they would be small sides but they were ginormous!! We couldn't finish them and I ordered the smaller burger size possible! I would definitely come back. I also want to try their brunch... especially their breakfast poutine.Mmmm.
google avatar

Lavie S.

Yelp
I liked the the size of the burgers, sweet potatoes ~(^-^~) and le ménage à trois. The service was great but they had forgotten one of my orders so I had to tell the waiter. The staff apologized and put the order on the house, yay! I would definitely go back.
google avatar

Drew C.

Yelp
Someone told me this was the best burger in Montreal. I've definitely not been to all of the burger joints in Montreal. However, I'll say that Notre Boeuf de Grace does have really good burgers. If your craving a burger this is your spot!
google avatar

Patricia C.

Yelp
This place makes a great burger ! really cute decor for sit down dining both indoor and outdoor seating. our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. A bit pricey but well worth it considering the freshness of the food and quality of the burgers. I had their version of a Big Mac and really enjoyed it ! I'm definitely going back to try more of their burgers and to try their breakfast
google avatar

Jules D.

Yelp
Really great food. But small restaurant. My friends and I had to wait 25 minutes on a Friday at 8PM only to give up and leave. I proceeded to go back the next day for lunch with my boyfriend. We loved the burgers! Not cheap but not too pricey. Great fries too!
google avatar

T F.

Yelp
- Menu is fun & original - burgers are really good (and big) so it's worth checking out on that alone. Fries are tasty too (but dangerous..) - Ambiance is ideal for a friendly outing, date night or with the kids, bearing in mind that it's lively, so no quiet evenings here. - Friendly and quick service - Original and thoughtful decor, especially if you like the bare wood look like I do - Overall, we're really happy to have a quaint and hip addition to the neighbourhood!
google avatar

Kenna M.

Yelp
This place was impressive. we rolled into Montreal (as tourists) super late and needed some food. We found this place on Yelp and decided to try it!. The burgers were delicious. The beef tasted fresh and so did the bun they used. I have to compliment their homemade lemonade which wasn't too cloyingly sweet like some lemonade can be. They were helpful with givig us sightseeing recs and even gave us extra gravy on our poutine! We're back in NJ now and are craving that poutine!
google avatar

Stephanie P.

Yelp
This was a cute spot, very aesthetically pleasing. Wait time wasn't too bad, 15 minutes for 5 people but it was a rainy day. Staff was friendly and attentive, felt at home. Best tator tots I've ever had!!! My friends all enjoyed their meals, portions were a good size. Pricing was fair as well. Definitely will be coming back next trip to Montreal.

Yelp
Located in NDG, this restaurant caters to burger lovers but also offers a brunch menu. Service was a little slow but expected as the place was crowded. We didn't wait long to be seated. My date ordered The apocalypse, he said the portion was small and he prefers the burgers. I ordered the eggs Benedict, which comes with Salami and avocado but you can order the salami on the side. It was very tasty and they even provided me with almond milk for my coffee. I'm not sure I would go again as I don't eat meat and they had very few veggie options. Ambience was nice and it wasn't too loud.
