Nice & Sweet Bakery Serves Cinnamon Rolls, Cakes, and Pies in Hollywood | Eater LA

"I found Nova Bakery in Long Beach at 865 East Seventh Street serving Venezuelan specialties; the menu leans more savory than sweet with beef- and chicken-stuffed arepas, pastelitos, cachapas, and empanadas, and the two burgers on the menu are ideal for heartier appetites." - Cathy Chaplin

This place never fails! One of the reasons to why I love Nova Bakery, is that it allows me to enjoy the flavors of Venezuela 🇻🇪 and I get to spend time reading and writing. This place is like a safe haven! The staff are amazing. Helpful! Friendly! And are willing to give you an explanation of the foods from a cultural perspective! All the food is amazing; but here are my favorites: The Nova Rice, La Yucca Rellena, Arepa de Pabbellon, Empanda de Shredded Beef and The Nova Burger! Also, with everything you try, you must have the Nova Lemonade or a Frescolita! Every chance I get, I always stop by! Make sure you stop by to experience the culture and flavor of Venezuela!🇻🇪

Google
Impressed with the taste of the food. We tried Venezuelan bowl and arepas with beef and just cheese. We love the food.

Google
I really liked the place. Excellent service and attention, innovative but above all delicious food. If you want to try something new and delicious, come to Nova. I highly recommend it!

Google
I stumbled upon this place while I was in town for a work trip. It was absolutely delicious! A legit restaurant with amazing flavor. I got the Pabellón Arepa and it was seasoned fantastically! Everyone was super kind and helpful, I will definitely be trying to go here one more time before I leave!

Google
This place has amazing Venezuelan food!! Everything we have ever tried is very good. Our favorite is the Tequenos, shredded beef arepas and empanadas. If you like Venezuelan food is a must tried. The flavor takes us back to South America. There portions are very good too. Is a must try ❤️

Google
Delicious and Comforting Venezuelan Flavors! I ordered the crispy beef-stuffed potato ball, beef pastelito, and a cup of chicha—everything was amazing! The potato ball was golden and crispy on the outside with flavorful beef inside. The pastelito had a perfectly flaky crust and was generously filled. The chicha was sweet, creamy, and super refreshing—just what I needed to finish the meal. I really enjoyed the experience and can’t wait to come back and try more dishes!

Google
Everything was so delicious and the staff was amazing. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
I just tried this bakery for my first time today and WOW! Everything is made so fresh. I ordered the cachapa, pastellito, and empanada. The crust on all 3 were so sweet and flaky; the meat in the center was tender and flavorful. This was the best place I've ate at all year and can't wait to come back

Yelp
I have always found Venezuelan empanadas in the USA are more like other things rather than true Venezuelan empanadas. In my opinion, too much filling doesn't make it better. After 14 years looking for a good one I can confidently say that I have found it. I tried the chicken empanada and I had three, like I used to have in Venezuela. White chicken meat, garlic, red peppers, onions and cilantro were the flavors I tasted and loved it. The masa had a little bit of sweet to it and was crunchy outside and soft inside, unlike many other places I have had empanadas in other USA states, like Texas, Florida, Nevada, Georgia, and California, where the masa was extra dry as in no freshly made. The place is a very casual one with the basics covered and they even bring your food to the table, along with the variety of salsas to please various tastes, so service is more than you might expect from a regular bakery. I will come back to Nova every time I am in Los Angeles area.

Yelp
Place is delicious! I tried their tequeños and pabellon empanadas... they are made fresh. The sauces were also great The owners were really nice too and they ambiance was great! Cute place to try Venezuelan food. Recommended

Yelp
Came in for arepas and got the empanada pabellón with scrambled eggs on the side. It was very delicious. Got coffee and it was great. My daughter got the Venezuelan sampler and all of the items were so tasty. My wife got a arepa with eggs and cheese. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
I was visiting my friend in Long Beach from NorCal and she said I had to try this place since she loves it and goes often! We got the tequenos, potato balls, arepa, pabellon burrito, and chicha and it was AMAZING. The pabellon burrito was huge and I loved the plantains in the arepa. I've never had Venezuelan food before but this is something I would be coming back for. The flavors were bold, and the different sauces made it even better. Every time I visit my friend, I'm going to make sure she takes me here!

Yelp
Great spot! Easy parking, plenty of seating, and a super easygoing vibe. The Venezuelan food is absolutely delicious with a wide variety of options, plus tasty desserts and drinks. Service was fast and friendly. Overall, highly recommend 5/5.

Yelp
Wow wow wow! We tried almost everything on the menu and so good. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Place is clean and service was pretty fast. We will come back!

Adriana R.

Yelp
The food here was delicious!! I ordered the pabellon arepa, and the flavor of the shredded beef and beans was absolutely amazing. I brought friends and introduced them to arepas, pastelitos, empanadas, chicharron, cachapas, chicha, and papelon - and everything was just perfect. It was always difficult to find good+authentic Venezuelan food in the socal outside of my own home, so the meal I had today was especially comforting! I am so happy to see there are more Venezuelan restaurants opening up in socal, and hope to be able to stop by again next time I visit LA/Long Beach.

Yelp
Good service. The lady helping me was friendly and welcoming. I went mainly for the chicken balls, but unfortunately they weren't available. So I ordered the chicken empanada and beef ball for my hubby. Chicken empanada was warm and savory, and those sauces were amazing. Although I did take it to go, it was clean and spacious inside.

Yelp
I think I have tried everything on the menu at Nova Bakery and it's all been delicious. The empanadas are top notch. The pastelitos are savory with a light, flakey crust. My favorite dish is the potato balls. All I can see is you MUST try them. Get the creamy green sauce on the side.
google avatar

Yelp
This food was so good! I tried their stand at the Queen Mary Night Market and it did not disappoint. I had never had a capacha before but I love arepas so I thought I would give it a try. It's like if an arepa and a quesadilla had a baby. It's sweeter than an arepa but it is still a sweet/savory corn pancake on the outside with lots of cheese on top and A LOT of melted cheese on the inside. It was super flavorful and a HUGE portion. The potato ball was also great! Pillowy potato on the outside and a good amount of meat on the inside. All of the people at the stand were so kind and hard working. Their stand was slammed but the woman up front was so kind and tried to accommodate everyone. Yes there was a bit of a wait, but that's because they were frying and making the food right there! And they had told me it would be a 15 minute wait and that's exactly how long my wait was. They tried to be as quick as possible while still serving up great quality food. I highly recommend everyone give this place a try! It's worth supporting great local businesses!
google avatar

Amir P.

Yelp
Venezuela food was delicious. I came in and got an empanada and potato ball. Both came with sauce. The potato ball had shredded beef which the texture threw me off a bit . The empanada was sweet. I prefer mine unsweetened. The service was GREAT and they had a cute little shop. I'd come back for sure
google avatar

Ale M.

Yelp
SO DELICIOUS. I drove an hour to try and it was definitely worth it. Authentic food and great service. Will be coming back soon!

Yelp
A true hidden gem in Long Beach! Parking can be a bit tricky, but it's well worth the visit. Everything is made fresh to order, so a little patience goes a long way. I highly recommend the chicken and beef potato balls--absolutely delicious! If you're a fan of mozzarella sticks but want a lighter alternative, try the tequeños. They're baked instead of fried and wrapped in a flaky pastry dough. Can't wait to come back and try their empanadas! Took a star away just because of parking and their wait time. Even if there isn't a line, there's quite a wait.

Yelp
Located near DTLB lies a great Venezuelan eatery. This isn't my first experience with South American food and the arepas are delicious. The arepa pabellon is a must try, bring your appetite because this isn't exactly a lite bite or snack. I came in right before noon and the place was clean and tidy. The woman at the front counter was friendly and polite as well.

Yelp
Nova bakery is locally owned by a family from Valenzuela. Raul was very informative about each item on the menu and answered any questions we had. We tried the potato balls with beef, chicken empanadas, and tequenos. Raul gave us complimentary dipping sauces with our order which included a homemade nova, chipotle, and spicy aioli sauce. I love Porto's potato balls and had high expectations when trying Novas potato balls. Definitely can say it met my expectation and might be slightly better than Porto's. The chicken empanada and taquenos were also good but I would come back for the potato balls alone and would like to try the cachapas next time I come back.

Bridgit B.

Yelp
Hard to find Venezuelan food, so was excited to find them. This is delicious! Arepa and beef rice balls were my fave. Refreshing lemonade. Nice staff.
google avatar

Jose P.

Yelp
The empanadas are great, the beef taste so good. Plus the spicy sauce they have on the side is delicious!

Khalila H.

Yelp
First time trying this place and first time trying empanadas and I'm obsessed. Place is nice and clean and customer service is excellent!!

Charlie T.

Yelp
The food was really good and flavorful. We keep coming back for more. Definitely recommend the tequenos.
google avatar

Christian F.

Yelp
Food was amazing!! This is the third time we come here and not disappointed at all... Service is amazing, dining in is a great option as the ambiance and location is amazing. Definitely recommended, and please try cachapas, tequenos, the burger is amazing!! 10/10

Victoria

Yelp
The food is great. Extremely tasty sazón. The service is the best and why I keep coming back. All the staff is nice and friendly. The location has very easy street parking. The prices are reasonable and the pastelitos to die for!
google avatar

Marven F.

Yelp
Ordered a chicken and beef potato balls and one of the beef empanada. Each cost $4 each so it is a bit pricey but the taste is good. Service is quite good and the ambiance is a modern cafe vibe
google avatar

Julie R.

Yelp
Everything was absolutely delicious And the service was great! Finally, a Venezuelan place close by.
google avatar

Laura ..

Yelp
If you're looking to try Venezuelan food, this is the place! Raul was very helpful in giving us tips on what to try. The cheese tequenos with the nova sauce were delicious, the beef potato balls were light and fluffy and very flavorful especially with the garlic sauce. We tried the pizza pastelito which was like a mini calzone with a fluffy crust and the cheese empanada was light with a flaky crust. Everything tasted homemade and authentic! Definitely coming back!

Yelp
I've been here three times in the past week. I've tasted everything on the menu and everything is exceptional. It's a super cute place super clean and just great to bring family and friends. The staff is amazing they really care about the quality of their food and they want to know your honest opinion. I've been bringing people here and will continue to do so this would be a Keith Lee recommendation if he ever comes to town because they're so new that people haven't discovered them. Hope you guys give them a try.
google avatar

Paul T.

Yelp
I went in for an early lunch. I ordered a beef empanada and a beef and rice pastellito. Both were excellent, as were the three sauces. Unfortunately there were no items in their display case so I had no idea they were so small. If I had known, I would have ordered a couple of more items. The lady behind the counter was friendly. Looking forward to my next visit.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
Definitely a hidden gem. I love everything here but the beef arepas are just next level.
google avatar

Humberto P.

Yelp
Much needed Venezuelan spot! We tried different dishes, cachapa con queso, Empanada de queso, arepa, teqüeños, papa rellena, yuca rellena, for drinks we had lemonade/papelón. We loved everything, these guys are legit, everything tasted amazing. Service was awesome, prices were more than fair considering the quality of ingredients, everything tasted fresh, sauces were delicious, the place was clean and Raul behind the counter was very attentive, answered all of our questions and made friendly conversation. All in all our experience was a 10. We wish Nova Bakery the best, they deserve it. Awesome work guys.
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
So good! I had the beef arepa and chicken yucca ball. Both were extremely delicious and flavorful. Love the sauce selection. Overall great experience with friendly staff and good vibes. Can't wait to try more of their offerings

Yelp
Food, Service, and Ambiance was 10/10. Family owned and operated this little gem is serving up some fresh and tasty food. I got the potato balls, an empamada, and a pastelitos.. everything was delicious.. I got chicken and beef. Both were tasty, but if I had to pick, I would say beef was my favorite!! They gave me one of each sauce to try, and they 2 were all good, but the nova, garlic, and Chipotle were my top 3. Service was great food was fresh and you could taste the freshness! Prices were fair. Overall, I will definitely be back! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Phillip P.

Yelp
A small bakery, has the best potato balls I have ever tasted. They have chicken and beef, the meat is shredded and stuffed. They are made to order.
google avatar

Gloria H.

Yelp
It's a nice place to study and work. The music isn't too loud and the service is great. I think they should add some champurrado, tea, or coffee for those that want something for late breakfast or lunch. Parking is limited but the shredded beef pastelitos are worth stopping by.
google avatar

Andy C.

Yelp
Great Venezuelan food, great service. I had the arepas- the beef in particular has great flavor. I will be back to try the cachapas!

Yelp
My wife and I just had lunch at Nova Bakery and found a new gem of a food place with some very impressive Venezuelan delicacies. We ordered the Arepa de pollo, Cachapas, Empanada de pollo, Pastelito de pollo and to top it off, a Venezuelan hamburger. Lemonade, Chicha and a diet coke were helpful to wash it all down. The Arepa was incredible! Its flavor that gets your salivary glands fired up for more. The Cachapas have a subtle sweetness of fresh corn on a bed of cheese that is smooth and delicious. The Pastelito and Empanda were good, especially when dipped in the 5 special sauces they provide at your table. Okay, the Venezuelan hamburger was a treat in itself not to be consumed by the faint of heart!...This beast boasts of a tall stack of ingredients (see menu) that make it different than any American hamburger hands down. The thick hot fries served with it make it a mighty meal fit for a lumberjack. The Chicha drink, in my opinion, is something to enjoy as an after meal delight with it's thick cold "silky-milky" sweetness with a touch of cinnamon...A non-alcoholic treat. Raul at the cash register and his team of chefs are welcoming and helpful when you need help ordering from the variety of tantalizing dishes from their home country. The place is small yet very clean and modern that helps to raise the bar for other places in downtown Long Beach...It is worth a visit for lunch anytime. We will return to try the Venezuelan Bowl and other dishes on the next visit. We are excited to find another place that serves delicious cultural cuisine prepared from folks (Actually from Venezuela!) who proudly share their country's prized foods with others. Charles and Leyla Acosta Lakewood, California

Holly B.

Yelp
The empanadas are FANTASTIC and the customer service is friendly and accurate! Can't wait to go back and try the potato balls and churros!

Nate R.

Yelp
This place is really delicious. I just discovered it the other week and it might be my favorite food place in walking distance from my apartment. I actually showed up on a Saturday--doesn't open until 3--an hour early and the guy got out his Translator app and took my order anyway. Absolute legend. The cachapas are my favorite. If you have a basic American palette like me, it's like a cornbread pancake/crepe. Sweet, savory with an indulgent queso de mano and meat. Don't sleep on the Venezuelan Bowl either. It's probably not the first thing you want if you're going to a bakery, but it's a phenomenally filling meal. The empanadas were perfectly cooked. Light golden brown fried dough at the perfect temperature for your mouth. This is exactly the kind of restaurant you want to survive over the next few years. Go try it ASAP.

Manny G.

Yelp
Food is amazing! This spot just opened and it's a must try! We had the chicken and beef cachapas. The chicha is DELICIOUS and the empanadas were very tasty. Service was great and ambience was very peaceful.

Cristian C.

Yelp

google avatar

Ida S.

Yelp
For once we where greeted very nicely, the food was amazing and fresh. The ambience was relaxing . Would definitely recommend.

Henry N.

Yelp
Good food, excellent service, tasty food however the plates are a little bit small like gourmet. If you are Venezuelan you need to try this. Price I little expensive depending on what you order.
google avatar

Shane D.

Yelp
Cute little spot, friendly staff, and the food was tasty. My friend who came with me (who is from Venezuela) said the cachapas were pretty close, and the only way to get closer was to use a type of corn that's hard to source in the US, and that the Tequeños were OK but the cheese should have been meltier, like in a fried mozzarella stick. But it's brand new and the people were nice, so we'll try it again in a while.

Jamie B.

Yelp
I've tried the chicken empanadas and pastelitos. Both were bomb. I'll definitely be back to try other stuff. The staff was also very pleasant both times I visited.
google avatar

Sean P.

Yelp
We're fortunate to have this Venezuelan spot in our neighborhood. There sauce game is strong and I went in on the potato balls cooked to perfection. The service was lovely all smiles and entire cafe spotless. I'll definitely see them weekly!!
google avatar

Annalise H.

Yelp
Clean fresh flavorful 10/10 happy to see a new restaurant in Long Beach hoping you guys thrive. The beef flavors kick it out the park. All sauces have their own flavors and are all worthy of trying, couldn't decide on a favorite because they all are packed with its own uniqueness.

Andrea B.

Yelp
I ordered catering for a party and everything was so delicious and all of the guests really enjoyed the food! Raul was great to work with in setting up the order! Would highly recommend and will order from them again!

Edgardo O.

Yelp
Good food and good vibes Yuca ball was fire Highly recommend it if you are looking for a tasty snack

Yelp
The best Venezuelan food in all of Los Angeles !! The arepas are delicious and always fresh. The customer service is exceptional. I definitely recommend Nova Bakery for anyone looking to try Venezuelan food.

Jena R.

Yelp
10/10 Venezuelan food!! I don't have Venezuelan food often, but their fresh empanadas will definitely have me coming back again for more. All of the staff was so welcoming and even gave me some Chicha to try while I waited for my food. Both empanadas were so full of flavor, and adding the garlic sauce to dip was the cherry on top! It was so yummy I HAD to order some to go for my husband to try.
