10 Best Coffee Shops in Denver | Condé Nast Traveler

"Here’s an amusing exercise: Visit some online review sites and start counting the number of five-star raves for Novo that begin with the phrase “I’m a coffee snob.” Collectively, they confirm its connoisseur-class status. Founded in 2002, Novo was a local pioneer in the third-wave-coffee movement, championing ethical sourcing, house roasting, proper brewing and presentation, consumer education. The reputation it has made for itself even since extends far beyond its own brand, with its beans making their way to high-end chocolatiers and craft breweries around Denver. The roastery also conducts tours and hosts classes on topics like seed-to-cup culture and steaming technique. In short, it’s hard to imagine the Denver coffee scene without it." - Ruth Tobias

Enjoyed a nice break from the heat on a summer morning and a good cup of coffee. I had the drop coffee and my wife had a lavender latte. They make all their own syrups. I tasted the latte. Very tasty! We also had breakfast burritos - bacon and vegetarian. Very good flavor. Mine was a teeny bit cold in the middle. Not enough to complain about. Just noting it. I could've had them warm it. I'm sure the friendly staff would've done so happily. The room is a bit noisy because of the industrial decor, not not annoyingly so. Thought about eating outside in the shade but no tables were open. Overall a great experience!

Google
After three mornings of hotel coffee it was time for a great coffee and Novo was just that. Great. The service was quick and friendly with a grand chat when ordering. Maybe it was because I hadn’t had a decent latte in days but the coffee was top drawer. A great find and highly recommended.

Google
This coffee shop is a gem! The coffee is consistently excellent—rich, smooth, and full of flavor. Whether you’re grabbing a classic drip or a specialty latte, you can tell they care about quality. The service is just as impressive. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and always happy to make recommendations. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting—perfect for catching up with a friend or getting some work done. Highly recommend

Google
Went three days in a row here. It was so good. I’d recommend going (very) early because the line builds fast and there were only 2 people working so it took a while one day. Despite the wait, it was completely worth it. The oat milk cappuccinos were perfect. And the pastries were amazing. I recommend the almond croissant and the chocolate croissant.

Google
A quiet, comfy coffee shop that's great to hang out at, either with friends or alone, even great for studying. I got a delightful cappuccino and sipped on that at a table while studying and thoroughly enjoyed myself

Google
Great spot for a cozy and high end coffee experience. Lots of good pastries and burritos from Dis Burritos. The vegan burrito is awesome!!

Google
Cute, chic, modern coffee shop with the friendliest crew. Breakfast burrito with the verde salsa was very satisfying & I loved their ice vanilla latte.

Google
Great place. Great coffee. Great people working there. Clean restrooms. Go here if you want your coffee in a real mug. Novo saved my soul on 6 mornings while on a conference at nearby hotel, where the coffee is rather bad. Back after 2 years: All the above still applies! And the pedestrian zone is almost ready now …

Yelp
How beautiful is that drink?! Not only beautiful, but it tasted WONDERFUL! My husband surprised me with some sort of delicious coffee drink and a vegetarian breakfast burrito and everything was so great. This coffee shop was so close to everything we needed to access -- the Grand Hyatt and the Paramount Theatre! So grateful to have some place so close to grab exactly what we needed!!

Yelp
Iced Vanilla latte was delicious! This place is so cute but so so small. The baristas were very kind and friendly. Our group of 4 walked in when it was a little busy but the team promptly took our orders and got us our drinks

Yelp
This place was a less than 5 minute walk from my hotel in downtown Denver! My regular hot salted caramel latte with oat Malik came out to about $8 which seems a little pricey but considering the syrups are house made and the milk alternative, it was solid. The baristas were friendly and accommodating, and the service was overall quick. A very chill spot with solid seating and lots of people for a Monday morning. Recommend checking it out if you're nearby!

Yelp
Nice little coffee spot in DT Denver. Cozy place to study, catch up on work, or casually hang out. Workers were very friendly and informative. They have some grab n go snacks here (chocolate bars, etc.), baked pastries, merchandise, the beans for their coffee, and some seasonal specials too. My boyfriend got the Cortado, which is espresso with warmed milk I believe. There's a cute latte art pour over with a heart. Came out fairly quickly. It's not to my taste but he enjoyed it!

Yelp
Wanted to stop into a local coffee shop while in the downtown Denver area. Popped in on a Friday morning so not that busy. Service was friendly but a little slow that day. I just ordered a latte with maple bourbon syrup and had their giant cookie. The cookie was good especially warmed up. The latte was good but not the best I have had and the long wait for it didn't help for it to be a tad underwhelming. However, I still give it a 4 because over the coffee was pretty good and the cookie was very good. They also have items to go including their own ground coffee for those that want it to go. I would still recommend to stop in and I see they have other locations would be good to try.

Yelp
I've been standing 4th in line for 7 minutes and no one in front of me has had their order taken yet. Not an auspicious start. 10 minutes, orders have resumed, but still slow going. 18 minutes now, just received coffee order. They apparently had just experienced a rush of some sort on this otherwise quiet Saturday morning. I have no idea if the slow service is typical or not. While we had enough time on this visit, a 20-minute wait for 2 simple coffee drinks is unreasonable. The positives - chill music. Pride flags. The chai tasted really good and my husband's cappuccino came with beautiful latte art. Staff was fine; they exuded chill vibe as well.

Yelp
I don't know what it is about a new coffee place that makes me indecisive. Especially with the simple straight forward menu at this place. I ordered a dirty oat milk chai latte with vanilla syrup. With chai orders I try and guess whether they are using a concentrate or a tea bag to make it. If I think a tea bag I add the vanilla syrup to sweeten. The barista thankfully questioned the syrup add and informed me the chai was already sweet and she was right. I briefly prepped for a 2pm meeting while there. Although it's a small shop with a consistent flow of customers and music playing I was still able to concentrate. So it would make a decent remote work option if you were already planning to be in the area. Although I must say I didn't access the WiFi while there.

Yelp
I LOVE Novo!!! We almost walked out because we were looking for some pastries, glad we stayed! The coffee is top notch!
google avatar

Lefai K.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this via Yelp, of course. Novo Coffee is a small quant coffee shop, that offer several baked goods, breakfast burritos, coffee, lattes, and cortados. I ordered the latter, along with a breakfast sandwich. They both really hit the spot. Ambiance is non-Starbucks, which I like. No blaring music, and enough chairs and tables and community seats to make this place feel warm, welcoming, and delightful. Service was good, the front cashier was patient in explaining the menu, and the overall caffeination experience was great. Will go again

Yelp
Good spot for a coffee! They have some seating at the bar and some tables as well. I saw that they had some interesting seasonal latte flavors and opted for the autumn fig flavor. I got it iced with almond milk. I thought it was pretty good! Not overly sweet, nicely balanced. Not sure if I really tasted the flavor of the fig, it was quite subtle. But it still tasted good and was a unique flavor fitting of the season. They also sell some gorgeous looking pastries behind the counter!
google avatar

Yelp
Smooth, rich coffee drinks crafted by barista-artisans. My 12 ounce latte and a warm chocolate croissant were phenomenal. A variety of places to sit and enjoy your order while light music plays overhead. Busy the entire thirty minutes that I was in the store. My only suggestion would be to add more drink options to the menu. Highly recommend.

Yelp
simply put: good lattes, good but kinda forgettable pastries, nice atmosphere and pretty solid service. definitely a good choice if you're in the city and it's convenient but wouldn't go out of my way for it

Yelp
Still one of my favorite coffee places to bring people. We stopped by as we were walking around downtown. Coffee is always amazing and the staff is excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
High quality roaster. Only half block north of 16th street mall and the pavilion. Laid back atmosphere. A few outdoor tables along sidewalk but most of seating indoors. Many people in hanging out either working or meeting on Thursday afternoon. Now to the important piece, the coffee. The pour over, Bonita springs, had fantastic tasting notes. Initial tastes are bright and fruity which quickly evolve into a heavier than expected body with some bitter chocolate and almost a bit of butter popcorn that then leads into a smooth finish. After taste as if I just ate a chocolate covered blueberry which is type of hot coffee I tend to gravitate towards. They certainly had some darker roasts available if one prefers. Beans simple in labeling but diverse in selection. I chose Ethiopian, hence preference for lighter bodied fruity coffees. However, selection included Sumatran, Panamanian, Guatemalan, Brazilian as well as some blends. Bag of beans purchased comes with a free drip coffee. Staff was inviting and knowledgeable about their product. Glad I stopped in

Yelp
Visiting from out of town. Best coffee shop experience so far. The gentleman who helped us was super nice. I had the nitro cold brew and my wife had the honey cinnamon latte. Both were excellent. We also had various pastries, all of which were good. We also liked and appreciated the general "vibe" of this place. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the area.
google avatar

Cameo L.

Yelp
This place was cute and had a great vibe to work in! I stopped by for a quick cup of coffee and got an oat milk iced latte. The barista suggested a sweetener and I got salted Carmel, the perfect start to my morning!
google avatar

Logan P.

Yelp
Went to novo around 8:00am on 10/28/24 and it's a really good shop. I got the drip coffee for $4.50 which is a good price as well. They do take Amex (only including because some places don't). I wanted to get one of the fancier drinks and cinnamon rolls but novo doesn't have nutritional information available so you don't know what you're getting. Wish I could do a 4.5, because it's such a minor detail. (Would go back)

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday morning with my husband and sister. We were staying downtown so this location was very convenient. Coffee shop was cozy and good vibes. The second I walked in, I felt welcome. We grabbed a table so we could sit for awhile. I ordered a latte (it was a special). It was soooo delicious and I appreciated the artwork. It was also a good size latte. We shared a pastry- everything bagel pastry thingy. I never had anything quite like it. It was a wonderful mix of sweet and savory. Cute spot in downtown with great coffee, definitely recommend!

Amanda H.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time and was really impressed! The coffee was excellent--easily some of the best I've had downtown. Service was fast during my visit, and I loved the seasonal menu options. There's also plenty of seating, which makes it a great spot to hang out or work.

Yelp
Watched the barista this morning take the Lime scooters and toss them into the street from the curb and walk back inside. Now he has put cars in danger who drive up the street. What kind of people work here. I was not going in for a cup of coffee as he was obviously in a baaaaddddd moooodddd. Why oh why, maybe a cup.of coffee will help him get in a better mood. Hahaha It was both funny and sad to watch as I just had to drive around on the wrong side of the street.
google avatar

Casey P.

Yelp
Great coffee shop in general, but docking a star for the flat white. When you order it the screen literally says "latte but call it a flat white" and that's exactly what it is - way too much milk for a flat white.
google avatar

Melanie O.

Yelp
Novo Coffee was so delicious! The coffee felt luxurious and smooth. It's a perfect work of study spot. It's calm and quiet. The staff was kind and patient! Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Great service, ok coffee. Got an Americano. Would probably not do espresso from here again. Cold brew and tea look good and didn't try. Baristas were very helpful and accommodating.
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
Dry stale croissants for $5. Ugh. Nice spot with nice people but maybe just not fresh on the weekend?
google avatar

Saphace A.

Yelp
A lot of folks from the conference I attended came here. We decided to stop in since we were walking around the area. I got a cortado with a pump of lavender while my other colleague got a caramel iced latte. Delicious! Prob one of the better tasting espressos I've had so far in Denver. The lavender was too much. Prob should've asked for a half pump but it did have the floral flavor I was looking for! The staff is nice too. They didn't rush as. They weren't busy but I can see this place getting tons of customers. A few tables inside and outside. It's not a big place at all. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Patrick J.

Yelp
Wonderful coffee shop that served delicious and great coffee. I love the place and it has a minimalist vibe. Well-managed place and great customer service. The staff was friendly. Everything was made fresh and amazing. The coffee was great quality and it has pleasant aroma. The price was pretty reasonble.

Yelp
Was in Denver for work and needed to find a coffee shop within walking distance of my hotel, so I stumbled upon Novo Coffee. I'm almost entirely sure I had been here once before a few years ago when I was in Denver for work, too, and I remember the coffee being delicious. This is definitely a smaller coffee shop, but still plenty of spots to sit down and work or chat with a friend. I ordered a basic vanilla latte with oatmilk and then also ordered a chocolate croissant on the side. The guy helping me was really nice, but I did have to repeat my order a few times. No biggy though! I sat down and started working and they called my name to come grab my coffee. They did forget my treat, but once I reminded them, they gave me it almost immediately, which was so nice. Their wifi is also pretty fast, which is great if you're working at coffee shop. Also not too noisy but really calm, and relaxing environment. Super welcoming and definitely a coffee shop I would return to!

Yelp
I'm a coffee snob.. I definitely know what the best coffee tastes like and Novo isn't it. There are "notes" of something that tastes like maple in every cup. The flavor of coffee should be coffee with nothing added. If you like other flavors those can be added.. This coffee is consistently disappointing. Many, if not all of he coffee shops in Northwest Denver buy their beans from Novo so I can taste it immediately. Terrible disappointment. The best coffee was at The Market and Common Grounds but they've closed and sold their roaster. It is sad that a city like Denver doesn't have a decent coffee shop. Please bring back the rich, deep flavor of coffee to my community!
google avatar

Nicky Z.

Yelp
Just left to the 16 street Mall street there is a cute coffee place NOVO. Always looking for small coffee places like this one and never regret. No wait time at all but it wasn't rush hours either. They have their own coffee called Novo I wish I bought one bag of those. Very basic menu but that is what I like. We decided for Latte and Mocha . Latte with oat milk was delicious and creamy and loved the design on the top. There is inside seating as well as outside. Not really great view outside but it is nice and quiet compare to 16 streets Mall. Convenient location close to all the business and hotels.
google avatar

Donta W.

Yelp
Really strong coffee here and great quality. You can tell they care about this craft and the lavender oat milk latte I had was made to perfection for my taste.
google avatar

Carmelo C.

Yelp
I have been a regular at Novo's Coffee shop on Glenarm and I have enjoyed all the benefits. The Baristas are great. The Prices are very good, certainly competitive. I sit in my seat and read the news, sipping my tea and have a crousant or some other pastry. It hasn't changed in a few year now, although the baristas have gone on to other things. But I still enjoy it my time at Novo's Coffee Shop on Glenarm. If you want coffee and you are in the downtown area, I recommend this UpDo location across the street from the Pavillion on Glenarm Place. I have had no complaints for a few years now!
google avatar

Boris D.

Yelp
10/10 for friendliness, ambiance and quality pour-over coffee! Will be back and recommend!
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
We came here on Saturday (1/20) before heading up the mountain. My husband and I both ordered caramel lattes, and were very happy. Nothing like good service and good coffee to start the day! Thank you!
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
Came to this cafe trying to get a couple hours of work in and ordered an ice matcha latte with almond milk. I'm not sure if it's because I got a plant-based milk, but you can see that the some matcha floating at the bottom of the drink. The drink itself was solid with a hint of sweetness (which the barista confirmed if I wanted). I will mention that this drink was about $8. There is plenty of seating here to get some work done but there are only 2 walls with outlets. They are bit harder to reach so I would recommend coming with a charged computer. The staff were friendly and nice! For the location, there was a good amount of metered street parking.
google avatar

Ed D.

Yelp
Very good coffee. Got the mocha with almond milk and it was crafted very well and delicious. Seating is limited but we were able to find seats to converse. Nice little cafe.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Great independent coffee shop - a saving grace in the sea of hotel tourist trap land of Denver. Minimal seating and it was cranking on a Saturday morning. When we placed our order there were 20 drinks ahead of us but it went quick. It's a clean yet comfortable vibe and has a great roast.
google avatar

Joy Q.

Yelp
Nice spot for a latte. Service is friendly This spot has indoor seating, Wifi, and limited patio seating
google avatar

Abs F.

Yelp
The inside was very cute. I was immediately drawn to the bright orange espresso machine. I usually search for places that do pour overs and have latte are posted in reviews, so hopefully find some higher quality espresso and service. My drink was not bad what so ever. Good espresso, with tangy notes but not sour. The other drinks in my party were ok. Nothing too special about them. The roast was relatively bland in the drip. Maybe a little watered down. This is alright, the thing that put me off was the somewhat cold interaction with the staff on register, like I was inconveniencing them for asking for what I needed. Obviously some people have bad days and that's alright. I'm in the service industry, but cold interactions always make me uncomfortable and not wanting to return to a business. Thank you regardless

Pamella T.

Yelp
Loved the GF blueberry oatmeal bar! It was large, moist and flavorful. The chai latte was smooth, rich and nicely spiced. The spot is easy to get to and very clean. The team here were very sweet, friendly and quick with the order. Would come back, especially to try the matcha latte.
google avatar

Klyn S.

Yelp
The coffee is good. It has a "fancy" taste. I got a mocha, decaf. The chocolate tastes like a semi sweet fancy chocolate. They don't have a lot of flavors to choose from. Service was average. Prices seems high, but that seems to be everywhere now a days. They did make it very pretty.

Sophia M.

Yelp
Bad coffee served with a bad attitude. Literally just go anywhere else. Don't recommend this to your friends or family they'll say "why would you bring us here? Do you hate us?"
google avatar

Sofia A.

Yelp
Service was great! It felt like a very welcoming environment with simple options. I ordered the wrong syrup initially (lack of caffeine lol) and they changed it no problem. I'll definitely be stopping by again while I'm in Denver.

Rosio R.

Yelp
Great coffee and pastries! I didn't stay for long but there were some areas to sit. It was a bit busy in the morning.
google avatar

Vivian H.

Yelp
This place is one block from the Brown Palace Hotel and after a morning jog, I came in here to get some coffee and breakfast before doing the conference thing. Staff here was super friendly and helpful. He let me know the water was shut off because of nearby construction and only certain drinks available. He did let me know that iced drinks were available, so I ordered a large ice brew with oat milk. I think I finally realized that I don't like cold brew, nothing wrong with this cold brew, I just think my taste buds don't like it. What makes this place really good is their pastry offerings. I got an everything pastry puff and a lemon poppy seed scone and both were really good! I wish I had taken photos of them, so everyone here could see what they look like. But, the important thing is, they were super tasty and I enjoyed them. Overall, a great little coffee bar, very close to many hotels and I would definitely come back when I am here again!

Ron M.

Yelp
Such a good cup Of coffee and close to hotel if I lived here I'd be a regular ... great smiles and cozy environment! Highly recommend
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
Stayed in a hotel around the corner from this place and decided to stop by instead of going to Starbucks. They have a relatively small menu, but have great options. We got two lattes and one cappuccino. The drinks were okay, nothing special and a little on the pricey end. They did make our drinks fast and were nice. Overall I'm glad we stop by, just not sure we would go again.
google avatar

Yelp
EXCELLENT COFFEE IN DENVER - must go! we were in town visiting denver and stopped by this coffee shop because the reviews were outstanding - and it was not wrong. it is a smaller coffee shop but vibes were great! staff was extremely friendly and quick to make orders. this could definitely be somewhere to work for the day and the noise isn't too loud. the coffee was awesome and the nitro was delicious!!! highly recommend to make this a stop in your trip or if you are in town.
google avatar

Shantel F.

Yelp
Great little coffee spot. Staff were amazing and very talkative. A cozy bar wrapped around where the coffee is made. Loved the environment. The coffee was nice and rich and very presentable.
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
Parking isn't great, but if you're walking by, they will do the caffeine trick. Coffee was bold and strong, the way I like my lover.
