The 12 Best Restaurants In Avon & Edwards, Colorado

"Eagle County is probably the last place you’d expect to find great Hawaiian food, but Kai Island Grill serves some exceptional poke and meat bowls. It’s a casual, counter-service spot where you should order some raw tuna mixed with sesame oil and onions, or go for it smothered in spicy mayo. If you’re looking for something a little warmer than chilled fish, they do a great grilled flank steak that’s drizzled in Maui sauce." - kim fuller

Some of the chefs are more entertaining than others. The beverage service is inattentive, rushed, and rather incompetent. Gratuity is obligated at 18% for groups so there is no leeway to tip a lower amount in case of poor service. Management is somewhat receptive to feedback about a poor service experience, but not greatly.

Chris Chang

Google
Food is ok but there is a hidden 20% gratuity added to the bill that isn't listed anywhere on the menu. The service is ok, but not 20% good. I only had the sashimi which was fine. Cutting fish isn't that hard. Restaurant is casual. Not esthetically pleasing but not bad. Fine with the auto gratiuity but would appreciate if it were disclosed somewhere before ordering.

Google
Great atmosphere, cookers are very attentive, food was great, they put a good show, restaurant is not too fancy it could use some upgrades, its divided in two sections with different food options. Service can be a little slow, reasonable prices for all the good food portions that they serve you. I recommend it. 👌

Google
Wonderful food !!! Service is prompt and friendly. Parking you've got to scan a parking lot sign. Then put your license plate in along with your phone number. It was free. I think it's something they use in the winter to stop skiers parking there. Sushi was fresh. The green curry was great !

Google
Dined here many years ago on a "date night" while my partner and I were staying in the Beaver Creek area. She loves sushi; I like sushi, so we gave it a shot. Glad we did - it was a nice experience. The food was good, and the service and atmosphere were nice. In the end (not surprisingly), I liked it (I'm a bit pickier on what I like), and she loved it. Would recommend.

Google
I would not ever attempt to go to this restaurant In Avon again. I had booked a dinner party for 18 people for this past July 19. I went twice to reconfirm this and to set a menu. Make sure we had the right amount of space and tables, and enough wait staff. Offered to pay for it all! The day before the party, I went by just to look at putting some birthday decorations around at 4 o’clock that afternoon prior to the day of the party. There was a sign on the door that said “closed hibachi Chef not available.” I received no phone call and had 18 people who flew into Avon to attend this party and we all would’ve shown up there the next night at 6:30 thinking we were going to have a dinner party there. They tried to make up every excuse in the book that they were going to call me After they called the other single table Reservations. This party had been planned for weeks. It is high season here and it is not easy to get a space for 18 people in under 24 hours. Never have I experienced a restaurant that cares less about their clientele ! we had frequented this restaurant many times they could have cared less. They have a new owner and I would not trust this person with anything having to do with food, reservations, service Ect.. stay away from this place. They are bad people. Anybody that would leave you in a lurch like that and not make a phone call to tell you to find another place does not deserve to have any support as a restaurant. be very leery of the owner And do not trust the manager as he lied to us. I hope many people read this and do not support this unethical business.

Google
Very pleasant staff, got seated right away and the food great! We had the yellow curry, teriyaki chicken and other appetizers. The jalapeño poppers where great butbhad seeds and they need more cream cheese/stuffing but overall are great. Definitely recommend for everyone to visit.

Google
Our server was very rude turning his back on us throughout the night mid convo and walking away when we had questions , as he walked away would say just look at the menu. Only took one of our drink orders, clearly assumed the rest of us only wanted water to drink. Never checked in on how food was, as a former server this was the worst service I’ve experienced in a while, he even gave us to go boxes before we finished our meals. One top Of it all half of the table got food poisoning last night and we’re throwing up all night. Sad that what was once a fun place that our kids enjoyed for bdays is no longer.

Yelp
Enjoy the entertainment of Hibachi Grill with your meal. Super value especially with a large group. Lively, welcoming, entertaining and fun. Sushi Rolls and Asian dishes are excellent too.

Yelp
Great scallops. Service was good. Chef was entertaining. Reservation was for different location but took us anyway

Yelp
The other day my boyfriend and I went to Nozawa (our favorite sushi spot around) and had a lunch date. The service is always great and the food is excellent. We started with miso soup and some fried calamari. This was our first time trying the fried calamari and it was very flavorful and we loooved the sauce it came with. Then we ordered some nigiri. I had the masago and my boyfriend had the mackerel and smoked salmon. For our rolls I ordered a fresh water eel roll and the shredder roll. My boyfriend ordered the spicy yellowtail and the atomic shrimp roll. Overall we had a blast and the presentation was beautiful! Can't wait to come back.

Jenna K.

Yelp
Horrible place, do not recommend! Sushi did not taste right and was at room temperate. Tried calling and no one could help - person on the phone told me I didn't need to bring the sushi back but then later was told they could not do anything because I did not bring the sushi back in. Later on found out they have not passed health inspection. Do not go here!

Yelp
Ordered take out, pretty rude customer service on the other line. Ordered a ginger salad in which the associate responds oh the mushroom salad and thinking that might be a good option, said yes sure, trying not to tell the order taker no I want a ginger salad which is what I should have said and what I wanted. Probably the grossest "mushroom salad" I have ever seen. It was basically a mixture of wilted and withering decaying greens below a handful of raw white button mushrooms that were not even cleaned. Could not eat it. What a disgusting joke. Spent $75 in total on this order. The beef fried rice which was actually really good, sushi nigiri of salmon and tuna looked good, but noticed some hairs or something inside the red tuna, which I didn't allow myself to eat. The miso soup was good, so next time I should have just ordered the fried rice and miso soup and maybe a "ginger salad" not that disgusting joke of a "mushroom salad" All in all this is a decent place, obviously not expecting Michelin service here, the fried rice was banging, and the miso soup good. Service not that good as that's pretty much the standard in many restaurants in the area or just in general.

Yelp
Don't go!! Food poisoning for me and my friends. Staff did not take responsibility. Clown show

Heather L.

Yelp
Nozawa owner had time to rectify this issue before I came to write a review but unfortunately it was not the outcome as a customer you'd want. On Sunday 5/18 I ordered food that tasted horrible. I am not one to complain but the sushi was warm and the bento meal tasted like overcooked oil soiling the whole entire meal. After also hearing about their health inspection this checks out. Won't be going back there. If you want food poisoning for three days straight I highly recommend!

D A.

Yelp
wish we would've read the reviews before we went today. The teriyaki chicken was overcooked and it tasted kind of like a burnt bacon. Their salad tasted weird. The only thing that was halfway decent was the hot and sour soup. The servers were nice and we were nicely greeted when we walked in.

Bridget A.

Yelp
Sushi was good, we got the dragon roll and ichi ban and enjoyed it. We got the duck and it was very dry. Our friends got seschuan chicken and pad Thai and they said it was alright but had big portions. Crab rangoons slapped and had a good amount of crab. Service and ambiance were 3/5 fine.

George L.

Yelp
Food is always tasty. Service is also usually attentive though not when crowded. Biggest complaint is their very poor ventilation. I'm amazed that the City of Avon allows this to continue. We are local and have to air out our clothing for a couple of days due to the imbedded food odor. What do visitors do since they likely only have one outer coat during the winter. Suggestion - leave you ur coats in the car and wash all of your clothes back at your hotel/rental. Management needs to fix this.

Yelp
Classic hibachi spot, nothing crazy about the menu or food. This was fast with great service. The menu is diverse and you get a ton of food with each serving. The staff was super fun.
google avatar

Alex J.

Yelp
We had a large party 12+ and made reservations for 5:00 pm. Good thing we did since it got crowded after we started eating. Staff were good. Food was plentiful. We each ordered our protein and also several sushi rolls to share. A couple of us had to get to go hoaxes with our leftovers. Plenty of rice and sautéed veggies before your protein is cooking. The soup and salad was good. The one reason I didn't give it a four star was due to the smoke after cooking. The ventilation was not as strong to keep the area smoke free. Air vent on top would be better than on the grill side. They did open the door, but ventilation should be better at a place like this.

Yelp
Very dishonest restaurant. We went there to get some food, and found that the portions were incredibly small. The menu seemed reasonable at first, and then we had to end up ordering additional items. Instead of spending about 50 bucks for two people, by the time we were full we had spent $119. I left a tip and my total was 131.73. I looked at my merchant statement and they had ran my card for $143.73. The server was Ivan. I called the restaurant to notify them of the dishonest amount, charged, and they argued with me about how they were entitled to a bigger tip. The food wasn't great. They didn't refill my water. And the food came out at different times from my friend that was with me. Bad customer relations and not great food.

Yelp
Great hibachi experience... probably one of my favorite hibachi experience, but to be fair I had the hibachi chef hosing me with free sake (like 5 shots worth). This happened twice! Kudos to the hibachi chef for allowing the group to interact with the cooking process which really supplemented to the whole hibachi experience. This absolutely made my night and my whole table wholeheartedly would agree. Unable to give a 5 star solely because their management kicks people off the hibachi tables before you're even done eating so the next group can come in. Understandable to a degree, but at the same time no one appreciated being rushed out.

Yelp
I tried the spicy tuna roll and it appeared to be made of different kinds of meat, like somebody had mixed salmon into tuna. It wasn't the worst sushi roll I've ever had, but to put it in perspective I've had better sushi in Pueblo. The sweet and sour chicken was better and the veggies were generous. The Tom Yum soup was a little bland but passable. In short, I'd feel better if the health department's grade were more prominently on display in this place and I do not trust this sushi restaurant to make healthy sushi.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming to the Beaver Creek area for well over 20 years now. The Sushi here is creative, fresh and very tasty! One of the few restaurants in the area where I do not feel like the prices are dramatically inflated. We come to Avon/Beaver Creek a few times a year and this is always one of my favorite stops! Keep up the great work we will be back :-)

Yelp
Good experience overall with a couple suggestions to the owner. First, we planned to make reservations but opted not to bother based on reviews suggesting it was fruitless. They seated the five of us within two minutes and did ask if we had made any. So suggestion here is to go ahead and make them but seems experiences vary. We ordered seven sushi rolls and they made them super fast! Had a big boat as a nice presentation. Suggestions: my child wanted a side of fried rice. Was told we had to order the full entree. So after spending over $100 on sushi, I have to order a $16 plate of rice. Had to add a protein which we didn't want so opted for chicken. Suggestion here is to offer a side of plain fried rice. Seems an easy fix so we will see next year. Also, chicken wasn't cooked well or something was off. So add that to the list. Again, good experience overall. Service was nice, sushi great, the rest was as mentioned above.

Yelp
Just as good for take out! Jeff is just as helpful as Tony getting my order place - and better looking too

Yelp
There is no reason to even try Nozawa. The rudest servers and managers we've ever had to deal with in the valley, and that's saying something. Our order was an inconvenience to our waiter apparently, he kept telling us that he couldn't hear our order over the 'fan' and would just skip people! The whole place is filled with smoke because they have no vents or fans above the hibachi table. The 'waiter' snarked back at the drinks and proteins we ordered, which included some of the priciest on the menu. They start 'hibachi' with a salad, which was actually an inedible expired greens bowl. Once our Hibachi Chef was out he was great, made it fun and tried but suddenly he was whisked off to a different table. They ended our evening with a snarky women who turned out to be manager, asking why we didn't tip the hibachi chef CASH and said that it was rude...we hadn't even eaten our food. She then came back as we finishing our food and said, " did you tip him??" And then handed our check. They then get an auto 20% tip after you tip the hibachi chef (again some of the rudest service we've ever had and had no choice). Best of all, if you make a reservation for a group they can only do it on one receipt apparently, even if it's 15 people who wanted to have it split 3 ways! So you add 20% plus whatever cash you were gonna give and u spent way more for the worst 'hibachi' and Asian food in the valley. 0 stars, food is eh, service sucks, and they don't care, and don't even try to use the restroom. A

Yelp
We came for sushi. Nice selection of different rolls along with nigiri and sushi. We came in towards the end of the ski season. We were seated promptly and server was on the job getting us taken care of. Even though it was towards the end of the season, it was still pretty busy. Some other reviewers note the place is smoky from the hibachi tables on the other side of the restaurant. A bit off-putting, but at least you can smell the other food being prepared. Some smoke hoods would certainly be an improvement.

Yelp
Picked up after a few times being disappointed. I don't even know why. But this time it was even worse. I promise promise this is the LAST TIME. The $50 uni was brown and made my lips stick together. I threw it away after a bite. The tofu was like cardboard. The soup was unseasoned and awful. The mussels were a shell full of Mayo. Ugh. I just can't.
google avatar

Jon M.

Yelp
Sat in the hibachi side earlier tonight with one other person. I don't know what's up with the ventilation but all my clothing smelled like smoke and cooking oil when we left. The entire restaurant was smoky the whole time we were there. The chef was very nice, about the only thing this place has going for it. We tipped him $20 as he had a tip jar on his cart. However, imagine our surprise when we were AUTO-GRATED 20% on our entire bill, in addition to the tip we already paid. The menu clearly states "groups of 6 or more will be auto-grated". We were a group of TWO. A long time local and will never be returning to this restaurant. When I told a friend what happened he said the same thing happened to them and the manager refused to take it off.
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
Great sushi, strong service both times we came. The potstickers were fantastic and the sushi was fresh. Food came quickly!
google avatar

Zenmaster S.

Yelp
They've gone really down hill. It's obvious it's all about the money they can make otherwise they don't care. Hibachi was uneven, people either got all onion and broccoli or a small portion of it mixed. I only got onion. Then when time came for my scallops I had a way smaller portion than my friends who also ordered the scallops. Max butter taste but very low seasoning. Not to mention the quality of their other offerings just isn't there. Sushi was always a great option but the cuts aren't as good. Very chewy for something you expect to be clean and fresh. We had the salmon and yellowtail sashimi, not octopus. Their Thai and Lo Mein offerings should be taken off the menu because they're a poor imitation of something that should be comfort food.

Evelyn B.

Yelp
We were very disappointed in Nazawa, we have eaten there for many years. The service was poor the chicken in the coconut soup and in our stirfry was mystery meat as far we were concerned it was like some reconstituted byproduct. The waiter was a bit perplexed that it didn't resemble chicken he offered to remake with shrimp. It came back nearly 30minutes later, just as bad. I brought it home, put it in the refrigerator where it liquefied pretty much into water with a thin layer of coconut fat on top. The green tea for two was like hot water, one tea bag! The one good timely thing was the sushi which was fresh and delightful. I would recommend going there just for sushi, there was nobody to complain to, I understood the owner was big busy cooking in the back. I paid cash otherwise I would've declined to pay my credit card. It was the worst food I've had in the Vail valley.
google avatar

Olivia L.

Yelp
The sushi was actually pretty good for the area. Because the restaurant also does hibachi, I could noticeably tell that my clothes smelt like oil after I left. Watch out on your bill, they charged me 20% tip and didn't ever tell me and hid the itemized receipt and just left the signature receipt on top with an additional tip line. Luckily I looked and saw it but it felt very sneaky of them to not tell me.
google avatar

Mackenzie O.

Yelp
Nice sushi place in Avon. Staff were super friendly. There's a large selection sushi rolls, appetizers and even a hibachi side of the restaurant. They have some cool flights of sake to try. It was a solid dinner and I'd go back but nothing spectacular. Their prices were reasonable but if you're looking for high end sushi, would recommend Matsuhisa in Vail.

Tom B.

Yelp
This place is a total dumpster fire. Bathrooms are disguising and don't get cleaned. Horrible service, management won't compensate for wrong orders, lack of bringing food that was ordered, and poor service. Would rather eat Costco bagged frozen Asian food. Manager is a dooche nozzle.

Kris K.

Yelp
great service, food came out quick, great price, good food, best sushi in Avon/Vail Would always recommend and come back to it one of the best parts is that it's not very loud like any other sushi place in Avon/Vail
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
Standout sushi. We ordered the chef's choice 12 piece sushi, the asparagus tempura roll, and a roll of the chef's choosing. It was all delectable. We finished with a spicy roll of the chef's choosing, and that was simply incredible. I liked my local microbrew IPA a lot too.

Amy M.

Yelp
We ordered take out- cut rolls and chef's special sushi both delicious and fresh. We added chicken and broccoli along with kung pao tofu-tasted great. When we picked up, the place was hoppin'. Looked lively and fun.
google avatar

Kyle A.

Yelp
Had hibachi there the other night. Only had 1 cook for our 15 top party that we had planned. So he cooked for half of us while the others sat around waiting. Also the food sucked, had no flavor. Worse fried rice I've ever had. Ribeye was half fat and the meat tasted weird. Shredder roll was horrible as well. Had to wash our clothes because all of them stunk like fried food. Worse ventilation system ever. Place seems to have gone way down hill.

Drew W.

Yelp
We had the best dumplings and sushi tonight. Great service and food I have had sushi in Japan, California, etc. this place is legit. If I am back in the Beaver Creek area I will put this place on my repeat list

Yelp
This is a hard review to write as my hubby and I got two completely different dishes. This was the world's worst pat thai. Served with a lemon slice, this was basically stir fried pho noodles with siracha sauce poured on top. Absolutely no pat thai taste to it - as if they skipped the fish sauce, the basil, and all the essence that makes pat thai. Coming from the east coast, I know what real authentic pat thai should taste like. The beef served with it was good though - it was still tender and had some flavor. I ate all the beef and will eat instant ramen to be full as I cannot even finish the noodles because it is so bad. I really should have gone to Pho Bay and order viet noodles. On the other hand, the panang curry per my husband was excellent. This is also a very curious take on it - it again had a chinese slant to it with baby corn, baby chestnut and spicy. The coconut milk taste was there, but could have been stronger. TDLR: Stick with hibachi or the penang curry and go back to Denver for real thai food.
google avatar

S A.

Yelp
Not bad but $$$$ which should be obvious in a ski town like Avon. Service was fine as we arrived when they opened. They used Spy paper and subbed cream cheese and jalapeño for avocado and cucumber.

Taylor P.

Yelp
All around bad experience. Hibachi meals would not be served to the table, we had to ask for napkins and glasses a few times. My friend had to go to the bar to ask for these things because our server was no where to be found. They refused to split the check. The food was- honest to God- barely okay. It wasn't awful but wow it was not good. The prices are so extremely high for such subpar food. I ordered salmon roll and the tiniest 6 pieces came out on my plate for $11. Nothing filled me up, I'm leaving here hungry. The most frustrating part was the prices for not good food. I promise I will not be returning and I highly recommend no one waste their time here.

Yelp
We had a 6:00 reservation for a kids birthday celebration. At 7:10 the owner came over and said "time to leave" and started waving her hands. We had full glasses of wine left and plates full of food. She started bussing the table and continued to tell us to leave. Several wait staff argued with her that she was wrong and inappropriate. They apologized to us profusely for her behavior and that she does this often. We were all shocked and appalled by her actions and will never eat there again.

Simran J.

Yelp
The owner spat in my food and called me a racial slur after he accused my little sister of underage drinking (she wasn't drinking). Then the bar tender thought it was appropriate to lecture my minor sister on underage drinking. This place is deplorable and a health violation

Marissa H.

Yelp
If I could rate it zero stars, I would. We had a reservation for 4 and numerous groups were seated ahead of us. After 45 minutes past our reservation, we were told that we had to wait and be squeezed into a corner part of habachi table which can fit two people. While the food looked good, I cannot recommend. They should not be taking reservations if they can't follow through with them. Also, they told us once we were seated, it would take another 45 minutes to get food.

Christian E.

Yelp
Sushi was decent but the server SUCKED. We ordered 5 rolls of sushi and we only saw the server when he took our order and brought the check. He left us a jug of water so he didn't have to check on us. I wouldn't mind it but they include 20% tip on the bill. Basically left around $27 just to bring out the sushi and the bill. My friend got a lemonade and the server never came to offer a refill. Places like this get away with this and the service goes on a decline. All of a sudden servers don't feel the need to check in on you since they'll get their 20% tip anyways

Max C.

Yelp
To go Chicken Lomein 18.65 after taxes and fees. Not worth. Wasn't terrible I've had the same for half the price. Should've listened to reviews.

Grayson H.

Yelp
We had a reservation at 6 6 o'clock in multiple people without reservations got there after we had waited 40 minutes they were she did before us. I would not recommend. if you have a reservation, there's literally no point of going. They will not see you if they're crowded. we waited more than an hour. and yelp please add a zero star review.
google avatar

Katie G.

Yelp
Thought the crispy spring rolls were good but that's about it. The hibachi section looked enticing, but the poor quality of the food we had makes me wary of going there. Ordered a sushi roll with no fish, and it was poorly constructed and tasted fishy. Ordered sesame chicken but with pork, and it was sweet. Not good. Tried the Mongolian beef and Kung pao chicken, but we didn't like any of them. Host at that moment was strange, not friendly, and took a phone call for a reservation while I was paying and he definitely was not friendly or accommodating.

Kellee B.

Yelp
SUCH A TOTAL RIPOFF. Called in advance for pickup. Gave the guy on the phone my husband's order and then mine. He told me "It's $65. That okay with you?" I said yes. My husband came home with the food and his meal was missing. We called and the guy gave him attitude and said that we only ordered one hibachi meal for $65!!!!! I got 4 scallops in soupy sauce and some overcooked steak. Don't waste your time. Would give this a zero if I could. My husband also said it was packed and there was no social distancing.
google avatar

Samantha P.

Yelp
The most unbelievable rip off I have ever experienced in my life...not to mention it wasn't even good. I ordered three avocado only rolls and asked for extra avocado. I was charged $30 and what I got as laughable (see pics). Three very tiny rolls with barely any avocado and they look like they were made by a kindergartener. Not to mention there were pieces of fish stuck to the rolls (see pics) which is very unappetizing when you are a vegetarian and ordered vegetarian rolls. I complained to the waiter who took my order when I saw the finished product but he was very rude, condescending, and dismissive. Had I not felt under the weather, I probably would have tried to put up more of a fight but I didn't have the energy to further engage with the useless staff. They also threw in an 8% tip which I did not specify or agree to. Considering how badly I was treated I certainly would not have left any tip at all intentionally. This place used to be a bit better and has really gone down hill. I will never ever let myself get ripped off like this again.

Yelp
3 stars because I like Nozawa just wanted to share this awful experience. I love Nozawa and eat here all the time. We never have any issues and are there at least every other week. I thought it would be a good idea to celebrate my birthday here by booking a hibachi table. I was wrong. It appeared our server may have spent more time smoking weed than serving us. He forgot to ring in our appetizers that were ordered at 8:40 and after trying to flag him down for over 40 minutes to inquire about them... he claimed he totally forgot and the kitchen is closed. No crab rangoons on my bday. At this point we still haven't started our hibachi dinner either. Our entire table of 12 was ordering most of their drinks from the bar because our server was full on ignoring us. When it came time for dinner, many of our orders appeared to come out wrong. My boyfriends shrimp was missed after we reconfirmed it multiple times. Another friend ordered the steak and scallop dish but was given shrimp and scallop. And then all the different steaks were grouped together. Many people ordering New York strip or ribeyes but all of our meat was cooked together... to the same temperature.... when I asked why you charged a different price when all of the steaks were grouped together and there was no differentiation between plates I was told that our chef doesn't speak any English so that is why. No adjustments were made to our bill regarding ANY of these errors. I believe his name was Matthew, ruined my birthday dinner for me. I'm not typically one to write bad reviews but wow what an awful dining experience.

Yelp
Nothing special. The tuna that they charge $20 for is pretty low grade artificially colored. $100 worth not enough for 2 adults and a 5 year old. Don't mind spending the money but not for this level of quality. To top it off, there was no soy sauce or chop sticks provided. I called they said it was my responsibility to ask for it.

Yelp
Five years ago to the week last week I fell in love with their Padthai. Took Adam D and his mom and was hoping it's still the same. They didn't disappoint! It still remains my favorite. Kudos! I hope I will keep on updating my reviews about you guys every five years with the same old report. This is one consistent event I would look forward to! Thanks for offering a great portion of your awesome sushi menu with 50% off your price! You had this 5 years ago and obviously it must be popular since you kept it going! You still kept the quality of your food and your servers were just wonderful to us! Parking is almost a no brainier at your location. You are within walking distance from the Westin-but then who isn't? But you're my special favorite slice of heaven in Avon:)

Yelp
Always solid sushi. This place gets crowded so try and plan accordingly, especially ski season when it's a good snow year. They also do half price sushi in the off season. Highly recommend it.
