"NUMA is a combination of the names of the two owners: Nuno Martins (chef) and Manuela João (front of house manager), who followed a "family dream" in opening their own dining space. Situated along a busy avenue in a residential district, it boasts a refined ambience, with plenty of wood decor and warm tones that combine to create a welcoming feel. The cuisine is centred around local and Portuguese ingredients and a contemporary vision which is showcased on two tasting menus (NUMA and Estação) and an à la carte. Make sure you order NUMA’s two signature dishes: the Carabineiro red prawns and the sirloin steak." - Michelin Inspector

3 Days in The Algarve

"Set on a busy Portimão street, this refined, wood-accented dining room offers two excellent tasting menus and an à la carte selection that celebrate top local and Portuguese produce; house specialties like carabineiro and bife de lombo are true gastronomic calling cards that showcase the region’s culinary excellence." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Probably my favorite spot in the algarve. Had the bread, octopus, shrimp, and chocolate dessert. Bread was really great start and had all the things you look for in a sourdough bread (fluffy, crispy outside) The shrimp was so luxurious. I was surprised at first that it was just one piece in the dish and it was 59 euros, but omg what a luxury. The shrimp was grilled and had so much flavor where it was so fun to eat at the bits and suck on the head. The body was likely poached and it was more luxurious than lobster. The shrimp is called carabineros and it’s one of the most expensive shrimp in the world. The chocolate was a great finish as I love white chocolate

I can only speak for the tasting menu but i can say that it is fantastic. It's a fantastic exhibit of what Portuguese food can be. Dishes and flavours that you recognize as traditional Portuguese cooking but elevated. The perfect intro to anyone unfamiliar with Portuguese food and equally fun for someone like my wife who's Portuguese and has grown up with all of these dishes. Many have mentioned the extremely tender octopus, but the quality really runs through the whole menu. The orange flavoured brioche was one of the many highlights. It helps that they also use fantastic local ingredients. The chef happily comes out and greets everyone and speaks passionately about the dishes and the sustainable philosophy behind the restaurant.

Great way to spend an evening with a significant other. The food courses all have a unique flavor that really surpassed my expectations. The chef came out and greeted us after our meal and made us feel very welcome. If we return to the area, I would love to see how the menu has evolved.

NUMA is a magnificent restaurant in the Algarve. The 8-course tasting menu showcases a perfect harmony of local products and contemporary cuisine. The octopus dish stands out in particular: tender, multi-layered in flavor, and perfectly balanced. Calm atmosphere and impeccable service. Highly recommended.

Impecable service. We took 8 courses tasting menu, which was very very interesting, a bit overwhelming, we shouldn’t have eaten 24 hours before 😁. I was impressed with marinated cuttlefish and pickled rabbit. The desserts were also stunning!

I think it’s a great place if one approaches it without sky high expectations. Its a michelin-grade establishment, but located in a small touristy town. We tried 8 moments set with wine pairing. The starters were a bit underwhelming, however the mains (octopus and pork selection), as well as, breads, and desserts were all strong. The wine pairing was very enjoyable - a decent selection. The service was also good. Appreciate the chefs entrance and him talking about the place.

The Best Place Ever! Manuela and Nuno, along with their incredible staff, are impeccable! Always attentive and ready to create the perfect atmosphere, they always ensure an unforgettable dining experience. My husband and I love this place and never miss the chance to return! The food is a true sensory journey, a harmonious blend of aromas and flavors that captivate you from the very first bite. Everything is fresh, seasonal, and of the highest quality, served in an elegant and refined setting that exudes both warmth and sophistication. The wine selection is outstanding, perfectly complementing the exquisite dishes. A must-visit spot that should not be missed! ♥️

We make a point of seeking out Michelin acknowledged restaurants as we travel the world and we are usually in a different country every month. We commented that the food at Numa was far and away the most fussy and least tasty we’ve ever experienced anywhere in the world. Every single dish was a cacophony of disparate ingredients that managed to neutralize the possibility of flavor. The room is lovely and the staff are committed completely to a fine dining experience (in spite of not understanding how to make a vodka soda). The amuse bouche (mussel cream) through every single course felt like the kitchen had a contest to see who could present a dish with less appeal. When the bread is the highlight of the meal there is a problem, but the bread was the only thing that was delicious. The mushroom gnocchi was beyond bland. The algarve shrimp was a ceviche style mush that disappointed. The duck confit was greasy (but tender) and the skin was not properly crisped. The rib eye had a beautiful presentation but was the most tasteless cut of meat with the driest potatoes we’ve ever been served. And I feel guilty leaving this review because everyone who works at Numa seems so committed to wanting this restaurant to be fabulous. And they are all so nice. They even surprised us with a special cake for our anniversary. As far as menu desserts go, the orange pudding is a molecular interpretation reminiscent of a trend popular a few years ago on the culinary scene. The portuguese french toast is a safer choice. And clearly many other reviewers have had incredible meals at Numa. Unfortunately it wins the worst fine dining meal of 2025 for us.
