Can Portland’s Food Carts Survive the City’s Development Boom? | Eater

"A family-run cart where the owner has spent more than a decade selling kalbi short ribs prepared in a grandmother's style alongside a spouse and a longtime employee, and which faced abrupt disruption and uncertainty with the forced move." - Brendan Seibel

Stopped at this food cart for the first time today. I haven't checked out this pod yet and loved taking a short walk to pick up lunch. I ordered the chicken bowl. The service was quick and friendly. The bowl had a good amount of chicken and rice included and had great flavor. The bowl was a good price. This food cart pod has a few tables inside a small fence and it was nice to sit for a few moments and enjoy the sun and city. I recommend this location and will stop by again.

Apart from being over priced, (most places are) the food sucks, the portions are so small... Why even post a picture of what your meals supposedly look like, if your just gonna give half the quantity of meat that you advertise. Then dude charges extra for card use and pushes for a tip.. Never again will I go there, I'd rather starve!

Google
Food was excellent and the man working the cart was super friendly. Would definitely recommend

Google
Tried this place for the first time. Convenient location near the Max and park and if you’re working in the downtown area. I was able to order pick up and it was ready right on time. The portion is perfect for lunch and even though I didn’t think I’d eat the whole thing? I definitely did. I ordered through UberEats and I didn’t see anything to drink on the app menu but that wasn’t a big deal to me. Friendly staff, easy pick up.

Tried this place for the first time and ordered the spicy BBQ pork bento. It was delicious, definitely with a good kick to it. I’d def reccomend this spot, but just be aware when it says spicy, it’s gonna be spicy.

Google
Enthusiastically friendly. Huge portions of delicious rice topped with tender and savory meat for cheap. They make their own coleslaw by adding the mayo last so the cabbage is crisp and not soggy at all. Easy to find on the corner. No seating available.

Yelp
It was my first time coming here after a coworker recommended. The food was amazing and the portions were great! It was very flavorful and the pork was actually spicy. The owner was very kind as well!

Yelp
This guy was amazing - incredible food at a good value - huge portions on the chicken katsu. I really loved the home made bbq sauce a lot - the glass noodles made a unique touch as a side. They get it out pretty quick around 8 minutes. Ample seating for everyone- i'd recommend if you're in a hurry get there before 11 because the lunch crowd pushes the wait closer to 20 minutes for your entree!

Yelp
Hidden little gem in the pod off burnside. Great Korean bentos. Owner is friendly and Korean - so the food is legit. I like their spicy chicken - flavored with gochujang which is a spicy paste. Got the kalbi combo - wasn't worth the up charge to get the spicy chicken added. In the future I'd just get a spicy chicken bento

Yelp
The food was mid. Not terrible but would not go back. Got the kalbi and it was really difficult to chew / bite into. Not soft at alll. The noodles I thought was gonna be japchae but it was something else and was just average. The guy running it was nice tho

Yelp
if you don't go for the food, make sure you go for the service! the lady who served us was HILARIOUS and definitely knows how to pull you in! i saw her stand, walked around, and she knew i'd be back. the food looked too good to resist. they were open late for the portland light festival drag show but check their page for their hours, they run out quick! i ordered the kalbi meal. it came with glass noodles, salad, and the kalbi sits on a bed of steamed rice. she really suggests the spicy chicken so i'll have to come back to try! can drinks available to purchase with your meal. this stand sits in a small park near other food stands. you may be tempted to try the mediterranean or other burger stands, but #1 bento is the place to try. there's plenty of bench seating and the space is lit with outdoor lighting! a perfect date and good outdoor venue. just bundle up if it's cold!

Yelp
i work in downtown so I eat at all the carts. Yung is an awesome dude who works hard and makes great food. find his cart. buy some food. put the food in your mouth hole. collect the pieces of your blown mind.

Yelp
Short ribs were fantastic. Chicken overcooked and too dry. Rice was pretty standard. Noddles were solid.

Yelp
We get Bento 1 at least once a week. I get the bimimbap or the tofu bento every time. The tofu is fantastic. Large pieces, lightly breaded. Each dish is quite alot of food. It usually takes me 2 meals to finish. The vegetables are cooked well and the sauces complement each dish. When we walk by the nice man working always waves and says hello. Great lunch choice if you are in the area.

Yelp
I love this spot. Their teriyaki is so tasty! I was sad when they had to move out of the 10th street cart area, but I am so glad to have found them again. The guy working at the cart is really friendly and I'm pretty sure he's the same guy all the time. Love this spot!

Yelp
Food here is amazing. The bulgogi and chicken bento combo is grilled well and is super tasty. Rice is done right and fresh! Location has outdoor seating with picnic tables and is shaded. Cook was very friendly and quick with my order. I'll be back for more, great spot!

Yelp
The tofu bento is DELICIOUS. Also - the owner is super kind and very precise with what he's doing as he's cooking. Everything was a lovely experience.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place! The city vibe and the atmosphere were awesome. The guy is very friendly and helpful. Portion sizes are pretty good too for the price. Recommend the Gyoza!

Christopher E.

Yelp
I thought it was pretty average. I ordered the bulgogi and it was ok. The service was 5 stars but the food was just ok. It was only 12 dollars though so I mean the price was on pont with other food trucks.

Sadie L.

Yelp
Very delicious food! We ordered four entrees and the owner of this food truck was so generous, friendly, and finished all four entrees in such a timely manner! I got the kalbi (HIGHLY RECOMMEND)!

Dolly U.

Yelp
I've only tried the bibimbap and potstickers and they're both delicious! The man that takes my order is very nice and he usually remembers my order, that's how often I visit. The prices are reasonable, the service is great and the food is amazing!

Hannah B.

Yelp
Spicy chicken bento was a delicious large portion and the man who helped me was very kind

Matthew A.

Yelp
It's no longer at this location. Super bummed. I used to come here whenever I was in town.
