Number 16

"The passionately run Number 16 occupies a narrow former shop and its tables are split between the ground floor and a mezzanine level. Dishes showcase prime Scottish ingredients and many exhibit subtle modern touches. The wine list provides interest and, like the cooking, represents good value." - Michelin Inspector

From the outside, it looked small and an unlikely place to find such outstanding food. Inside it was empty! but the manager made us welcome and offered the house wines( pictured). Both were excellent and we enjoyed the first glass with the sourdough bread and olive oil, although both were much more than that. We shared the sweet potato soup which was excellent. Our mains were the halibut and the lamb( pictured). Both were cooked perfectly and their presentation was spot on. Just to see if there was a weakness here,we shared a lemon curd based dessert, again beautifully presented. It came to £100 for the two of us which given the quality we thought was well worth it.

It has been a wonderful dinner, in addition to the two waitresses who have served us who have been pleasant and very professional at all times! The two waitresses who attended us Rowan and Eilidh were pleasant in the attention and professional, they were also aware of us at all times, it is wonderful to come to another country and be able to enjoy the food. And of course the cooks who prepared some exquisite dishes for us the kitchen team: Kate, Stuart and Declan!!! Thank you all very much for this wonderful experience!!!! We'll be back 🥰

We've been going here at least once a year for a few years now, usually book in for the christmas menu. The food is always excellent and the staff have been great whether it's been 3 people or 10 people that we booked in.

Google
No 16 was an excellent little find. The staff are very warmly and welcoming, the food tasted fantastic and we would definitely go back. It’s not a big restaurant and fills up quickly, so booking a table in advance is definitely recommended.

Google
A wonderful, if rather small, restaurant. Excellent food, friendly and helpful staff. Service was prompt, but unhurried and the price is very reasonable for the quality of the dishes. The menu is not extensive, but all of the dishes are lovely.

The best restaurant I ever had in Glasgow so far. The food is amazing and waitresses are very friendly. They also have Christmas specials 3 course meals. The space is limited and need reserve your table as early as you can.

Google
We booked this restaurant for a birthday meal and the food was stunning. *id advise booking in advance as people who hadn’t booked were turned away as they were fully booked. The staff were very nice and The squid and Halibut were phenomenal.

A very good restaurant in Glasgow. The 2-dish menus are good and not particularly expensive for the quality. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
We had a lovely experience at Number 16! Service was friendly, and the location is small but very cozy, and very clean. Now let's talk about the food! We ordered the crispy pork cheek, which was good, but our least favorite of everything we had that night. The venison tartar: absolutely AMAZING. Seared scallops that were absolutely perfect. Venison haunch: delicate, delicious, and would absolutely order again in a heartbeat. Chestnut gnocchi: amazing. Legitimately probably one of the most delicious gnocchi dishes I've ever had. Even with a couple of drinks, the cost was very affordable. If we ever find ourselves in Glasgow again, I would definitely eat here again and again and again!

Yelp
We hadn't eaten here for some years, having had a poor experience on our previous visit. However, I am glad to say that the quality has improved immensely, and this is now firmly on my list of favourite local restaurants. It's a bit cramped for space and nearly always busy, so be prepared for a noisy, boisterous environment. But the menu, although small, has interesting selections and caters moderately well for veggie and vegan options. You can tell you're in for an interesting mean when you see that one of the starters is scallops with... popcorn? Gets my vote!

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant in the heart of the West End! The coley was excellent. My partner loved the beef too. The cauliflower gratin was creamy and nicely favored. Two course meal for L21. Great customer service too. Book ahead if you want to visit here!

Yelp
Shockingly slow service, minuscule portions. We were served our starters an hour and 20 minutes after arriving. They appear to cook table-by-table. Food was good but definitely not worth the wait. Left hungry. Service friendly.

Yelp
Good food. I ordered the duck which was phenomenal, much better then any duck I've had in America. But the barley mash that came with it was disappointing. If the duck was bad, it would've been a 2 Star review. The restaurant itself just seemed so cramped, and I've been to plenty of small restaurants in NYC. The service was slow, and I went on a Tuesday evening. They were not busy enough to excuse the service. The waitress was very polite. The menu is so small, you almost pick something for an entree out of process of elimination.

Yelp
I had wanted to pay Number 16 a visit for a long time now, and thought it would be a nice wee treat for my dads birthday. We booked well in advance to make sure we got table as it is a very small restaurant. The staff were very welcoming on arrival, and we were seated straight away. It has a nice cozy, relaxed atmosphere. There is a range of dishes on the menu to suit all tastes. It is on the slightly pricey side, however well worth paying a little extra for high quality food. We were initially given a choice of 3 breads rolls; they were freshly baked, served hot with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I opted for the Beetroot salad which was served with asparagus, puy lentils and goats cheese. This was a beautifully presented dish. So colourful, and the variety of beetroot (who knew there were so many!) was really complemented by the smooth creamy goats cheese. For a main course I had the Fillet of sea bream with capona, broad beans, white crab meat and anchovies. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the crab meat was sweet and succulent. This was a good sized portion, with two large pieces of fish staked. We were pretty full by this point, however there's always room for desert, right!? We decided to share 2 amongst the three of us. So up first is the "Reeces" peanut praline panna cotta in a chocolate cup with milk chocolate ice cream. Oh man this was fab! The chocolate cup was so thin and delicate, with subtle hints of praline in the panna cotta. The staff must have over heard us cheersing to dads birthday earlier in the night and brought the desert out with a wee candle. A nice personal touch! The other desert - Mango parfait, passion fruit cremeux, coconut sorbet and coconut praline crunch. This was refreshing, light and the praline crunch was delicious. I really enjoyed my meal at Number 16, and I will definitely be retuning in the future. Good to know they have set lunch and pre-theatre options too.

Yelp
Ok so before I start, this is more a 4.5 star than a 4... Number 16 has been at the top of my foodie bucket list ever since I clocked their pastry chef Helen Vass on Great British Bake off: Crème de la Crème (which she went on to win with her team - high praise indeed!). So when I found out July's Secret Dining was going to be at Number 16 I knew we were in for a real treat. Located at the Partick end of Byres Road, it's quite a small restaurant with seating for perhaps 18 on the ground floor and a small mezzanine above. As a result, it feels very cosy and snug, would be lovely for a date night actually. Our table was on the right and a bit of a squeeze for those sitting against the wall which makes me think this place isn't designed for groups above 4 unfortunately. Anyhoo, expecting it to be quiet, being a Wednesday night, I was surprised to find all tables constantly taken throughout the evening (always a good sign!). We were eating from the early evening set menu, £15.95 for 2 courses or £19.95 for 3 which I think is very reasonable. The menu is forever changing too depending on what's in season so never the same meal twice. Ok so onto the food itself...I'm a real sucker for beetroot these days so opted for the goats cheese and beetroot starter. It was picture perfect, I (almost) didn't want to disturb it! But I did...and it was light, a nice size portion overall, my only slight negative being I would've liked a little more beetroot given it was the main attraction. For main, 5 out of the 6 of us had the chicken with tabbouleh and aubergine purée. Love love loved this! Lots of fresh mint and pomegranate added flavour and texture to the perfect, moist chicken breast, deliciously yummy! And so we get to pudding...it had to be the chocolate cremeux for me. It was served with the thinnest (like unbelievably thin!) sourdough toast and olive oil ice cream (which this juror's still out on (personal tastes, it was smooth and creamy just not sure it's for me)). I could've eaten a dozen quenelles of the cremeux though, it was to die for! Would I go back here? Of course! I'd like to try the a la Carte next time and see if I can bump this up to a fantastic 5 star.

Yelp
No 16 means a great deal to us, as it was the place where Briony and I decided to get married. It always evokes great memories for us, and we lucked out, as we picked an amazing place for the memories - it could have been McDonalds! Small, but perfectly formed, this a restaurant with a great atmosphere, and food to match. It serves up classic flavours brilliantly cooked, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Prices are pretty good, and the pre theatre - £16.95 for 2 courses is great value for the quality of food you get. Definitely a place to make your own memories. Highly recommended.

Yelp
On a very snowy Friday evening, we happened to be booked in here for dinner with friends. With Byres road shutdown and the snow falling, it was certainly a very Christmas feeling getting here as our first visit. Very warm welcome in, as we got settled in. Thankfully, near a radiator to defrost gloves! Opted for Beef in tempura batter and fishcakes. Wow... Not only a work of art on the plate, these flavours were amazing! Fishcakes were not overpowering & we literally cleared the plates in 60 seconds! For mains, I went with Ox cheek, Fiona has slow cooked Pork Belly & friends had butternut squash risotto and the Duck. Everyone was simply wowed. This is a wee gem of a place I've over looked many times given it's size. The beef fell apart, as did the duck and the pork. The service was outstanding - friendly and warm, just what you want from a restaurant. We spent over 3 hours here & not once felt rushed. Completely relaxed and could have easily spent longer, had it not been for our taxi arriving 30 minutes early! In summary... YOU GOTTA EAT HERE... NOW! :-D

Yelp
I love Number 16, I really, really do. My parents are visiting from Australia, and I thought this would be the perfect place to take them for lunch on their second day in Glasgow before heading to the Riverside Museum nearby. On a Sunday, they have a two course deal for £12.95 between 1pm - 2.30pm which you'll probably need to book ahead for as the restaurant is quite small. We easily booked a table the day before for four which was a relief. We had the large table at the back of the restaurant which is great for spreading out and relaxing, with lots of lovely cushions and comfy seats. The set menu has about 3 options for starters and mains, and you can expect to find seasonal, local ingredients like mackerel, ham hock and pork belly from Carluke. There's at least one vegetarian option as well. I went for the deep fried ham hock with panko, pea puree, goats cheese mousse, puy lentils, pickled onions and beetroot puree for starter, and the roast breast of chicken with tabbouleh, smoked aubergine purée, pomegranate molasses and crumbled feta for main. I've mentioned it in my previous review, but you really won't be disappointed with the food here - beautifully presented with lots of care and really well balanced flavours. The ham hock was a little like a croquette but presented sliced in half, with lots of lovely watercress on the plate. The goats cheese mousse was incredibly delicious and I'd have loved more of this! The portion size was good as well, not too large but definitely not stingy and left plenty of room for me to attack the main. A plump chicken breast with the lovely Mediterranean flavours of aubergine and feta meant this was a bit more interesting than your standard chicken dish. Service was friendly and helpful, and we never had to wait long for anything (the small space helps!). The bill came to around £60 including soft drinks and made for a lovely start to the day. I really can't rave about Number 16 enough, to me it is a must-visit destination in Glasgow whether you're a local or tourist, and if you can nab the exceptional value pre theatre then you're in for a real treat.

Yelp
The vibe in Number 16 is fairly relaxed, we visited on a Friday night and it was a pretty casual affair. The restaurant was nice enough, but nothing immediately jumped out at me decor wise. It was a perfectly pleasant space to spend a few hours although it did feel a little cramped. The restaurant is pretty small and they have added a mezzanine level which just further adds to the feeling of being squeezed in by having a really low ceiling. The staff were very welcoming and friendly throughout the meal. Although because it was a busy Friday night we did have a little bit of a wait before we could order our dessert and my latte took quite a while to arrive. This isn't a huge issue but I think it was worth mentioning because we did comment on it at the time. To start the meal we ordered some mixed olives with Herbs de Provence and parmesan shortbread. I like olives but it was more the idea of parmesan shortbread which intrigued me. The olives were nice but the made in-house shortbread was so delicious that I actually asked if they could bring us another round, 1 just wasn't enough. Which the waitress happily did without charging us for them. I ordered the Chilli Salt Squid with organic leaves, crispy onions and Vietnamese dressing as a starter. Wow this was HOT....beautiful but H.O.T. The dish was overflowing with tender juicy pieces of squid, well dresses leaves and tasty little morsels of crispy onion. This was a beautiful starter and I would definitely order it again...but I'll make sure I have a large glass of water near by when I do. Whenever duck is on a menu I always find it hard not to order it. When I saw Seven spice roast breast of Gressingham duck, poached rhubarb, shallots and heirloom tomatoes, elderflower dressing and sweet soy on the menu I knew I had to order it - even tho rhubarb is one of my food nemesis. When it arrived the plate was beautiful. The duck was perfectly pink and the fat was rendered nicely, and even though rhubarb is a food hate (along with brussels sprouts and mushrooms) I am a firm believer in trying things in nice restaurants just in case they have magically made it nicer and guess what - I didn't hate the rhubarb! I can't tell you how much this is indeed high praise. I only had a few bites of it with the duck but the soft bitterness from the 'barb really added a lovely additional dimension to the well-flavoured duck. For dessert we went for the Chocolate garden - Chocolate ganache, cocoa soil, yogurt sponge, forest fruits, raspberry foam and raspberry fluid gel. I was so excited to try this. Again when the plate arrived it was so pretty. The little squares of rich creamy ganache were smooth and lush, the cocoa soil gave the dish a little texture and bite, and the raspberry foam was amazingly light and packed a real punch of flavour. The yogurt sponge I found extremely confusing....don't get me wrong it was tasty but it tasted and looked like bread, I didn't really think it went with the dish and it didn't add anything. We split the bill but my meal came to £39.85 (excluding my wine and latte) I would say this was a fair price for the food that I received and I would happily pay it again. I would highly recommend a visit to Number 16 and will definitely visit again....extremely enjoyable night with lovely people and beautiful food.

Yelp
We finally made it out to try this Yelp favourite for lunch last week, and I'm sure glad we did. The place, while small, is lovely; I really enjoyed the ceramics, which seemed to be custom-made for the place (salt and pepper pots with 16s on them, bread plates with different wee animals, and even a few animal tiles in the loos!) On to the good stuff: the food! For lunch on a weekday, they had a set menu with 2 items for 13.95 or 3 for 16.95. I started with a watermelon and feta salad, and my partner had a different salad that so help me I cannot remember what was in it. Mine was really nice, though missing the advertised pancetta - I asked and our waitress said it was a pancetta crumb, and we wondered if maybe it had flour in it so they left it off because I told them I'm gluten-free. No one ever said anything about it, even after I asked, which was a bit strange. It was still nice but I imagine that missing ingredient would have made a difference. For mains, I went for the trout, which came with asparagus and potatoes and a pea mint sauce, and my partner had the gnocchi, which was the only vegetarian option. The fish on its own was cooked nicely but a bit plain; this all changed when combined with the sauce, which I'll admit I was skeptical of (not a fan of peas, nor mint in savoury things) - but it was really good. My partner enjoyed the gnocchi, especially the ones that were a bit crispier (he thought they'd been baked.) For dessert, we couldn't decide so we shared two - a chocolate ganache-like dish with cream and a few cherries scattered about, and a tapioca pudding topped with tropical fruits, served warm. They were both incredible and probably the best part of the meal. Everything in each dessert was well-balanced and lovely. This is consistently one of the top rated places on Yelp in Glasgow, and they've earned it. It's a great place for a nice meal.

Yelp
Situated at the bottom of Byres road number 16 is small neighbourhood restaurant with a strong reputation for serving top quality food since 2009. It was awarded an AA rosette in 2011 and has won several other awards for their continual efforts. After a nice leisurely stroll down Byres road and we arrived at the restaurant. We were instantly surprised at how small it was, regardless of this they have made excellent use of the space and created a nice cosy atmosphere. We were taken to our seats on the higher mezzanine level and shown the set menu for the day, two courses at £14.95 and three courses at £.17.95 A good ten minutes had passed and no one had came to take our order, we finally managed to flag down the waiter who explained we couldn't order as the kitchen "wasn't ready" and we would have to wait, we found this a little bit strange and we waited another ten minutes before our order was finally taken. We both decided to go for three courses, we had a look at the wine list, it looked reasonably priced but we stuck with water as we both had to drive or study later that evening. While perusing the menu's we were given a beautiful white and brown roll, we enjoyed dipping our roll into the oil, a combination we hadn't been served for a while but enjoyed. All three of the courses were really good, for starters it was pan fried rainbow trout, The presentation of this dish was very pleasant as was the combinations of flavours. The fish was cooked and seasoned well and the beetroot flavour was intense and very enjoyable on the palate. Main was chicken, Minimalist presentation but some very skilled cooking on show. The chicken was pretty much perfect, and we found the pomme puree to be silky smooth and incredibly moreish. We finished with a lemon and coconut tart ,we really enjoyed this desert and could easily of had another, it was that fantastic. The strong fruity flavours were divine and worked perfectly with the lemon and coconut tart. A really nice finish to a good meal. Our first experience of number 16 was mainly a positive one. The standard of cooking was high and each dish had clearly been thought out well in terms of taste, texture and presentation. The thing that let the restaurant down was the service. We waited nearly twenty minutes for our order to be taken; plates took a while to be cleared; and then we had another wait for someone to ask for the bill. The restaurant was busy so we hope this was just an off night as the food was good and we did have an enjoyable evening and would still recommend anyone to try the restaurant for themselves. Overall for £18 per head for 3 courses we had an enjoyable evening. The restaurant is well deserving of its AA rosette and it's bound to be in contention for a 2nd rosette in the coming years.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about Number 16. My husband and I were visiting Glasgow from Chicago for 2 days and made reservations for dinner here on a Sunday night. I was very happy to learn, through their website, that on Sundays you can bring your own bottle and the corkage is free! We arrived a bit early for our reservation but were still able to be seated in the intimate, cozy dining area and start on our wine will we waited. Reservations are definitely needed because they were fully booked, but as another reviewer mentioned the atmosphere is still very relaxed and intimate, even with a full house. After savoring the warm bread with delicious oils and butter served alongside, we settled in for the main event. Here's what we had: *Fresh Tagliatelle with Wild Mushrooms, Garlic, and Sage Butter (starter): Amazing. The pasta was perfectly cooked and all the ingredients tasted so fresh and complimented each other so well. I really didn't want to share this dish with my husband! *Pan Seared Scottish Scallops with Avocado and Coriander Salsa and Gazpacho Dressing: This was my main and while the scallops were delicious and perfectly cooked, I found the salsa and avocado to bit a bit too overpowering and the taste of the scallops was lost when eaten together. *Braised Pork Belly with Stornoway Black Pudding Croquette, Celeriac Puree, White Onion Marmalade, and Spiced Apple Sauce: This was my husband's dish and it was fantastic! Very rich with the pork belly and black pudding but the accompaniments even it out nicely. *Sticky Toffee Pudding: Heaven in the form of a dessert. It's warm and melty and delicious, what more is there to say?! Overall we had a wonderful dinner at Number 16-the atmosphere, the service, the food...it was all top notch and I would definitely try and return if we are passing through Glasgow again!

Yelp
What a lovely little restaurant! I guess that's a good a place to start as any, Number 16 is small but manages not to feel cramped, so maybe 'cosy' is a better way to describe it. We had a table for two upstairs, and whilst we waited for another party to arrive at another table - remember, small place, so the kitchen works better if they cook in batches - we enjoyed some bread dipped in their own olive oil - infused parmesan, rosemary and garlic olive oil - aged balsamic vinegar. I'd happily have just sat there with fresh bread and that wonderful oil, and a glass of wine for the rest of the evening but we were pretty hungry so were glad when we could order! I started with the poached ham hock with pickled onions, braised split peas and goats cheese mousse. What a wonderful delight! The block of ham was delicious and quite subtle, and worked well with the braised split peas, cut through by the sharp goats cheese mousse and pickled onions it was soon polished off! The balance of quantity was a little off though, and the dish ended up dominated by the split peas - more tasty ham next time please! As was Kirsty B's crab salad with gazpacho, avocado mousse, baby watercress and quinoa. We both enjoyed our dishes so much we didn't even pause to try the others. Main courses arrived after a polite pause. Kirsty had the pork belly with smoked celeriac puree, piccalilli, sprinklings of black pudding, with a potato croquette, served with dashes of an apple and vanilla sauce. A busy but well presented dish that had her mmmmmming on the first mouthful. For me, bavette steak with sautéed purple potatoes, red cabbage (nicely sweetened with some raisins), on smear of carrot puree and a swoosh of garlic pesto and sage butter. The steak was delicious, not a cut I'd tried before (it's from the flank I think) but it was juicy and tender, with a wonderfully salted sear. The potatoes were... well potatoes, and the red cabbage complimented the steak well. The garlic pesto was a delight, adding a nice sharp bite to the dish but I'm not really sure why the carrot puree was there. It may have had a hint of cumin in it and, to my palate, it didn't really compliment anything else on the plate. I still scoffed the lot mind you! By that point, having had a couple of bread rolls whilst we waited to be able to order our food, we were both stuffed and sated, having enjoyed a 50cl pot of wine (the French rose) with the meal - I do wish more restaurants would offer this option for when a glass isn't enough, a bottle is too much (if you aren't particularly big wine drinkers...). So, we passed on dessert, despite the many tempting options! Price wise it's competitive for a good dining experience, the staff were friendly and efficient, and the restaurant has a nice laid-back feel too it which I loved. Definitely one to go back to, not quite 5 stars but pretty damn close.

Yelp
We absolutely loved this place! We ordered from their tasting menu - braised duck croquette and miso salmon for appetizers, and filet mignon and sea bream for entrees. We loved every dish! The ingredients were very fresh and in season, and we really enjoyed the unexpected flavour combination in each dish. The portions look small at first, but were surprisingly filling - we were both stuffed after 2 courses! For vegetarians tho, the selection from their tasting menu may be a bit limited. It's also only a few minutes walk from Kelvingrove Art Gallery, very convenient for our itinerary. Would highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Excellent from starters to main course, desert and drinks. Salmon for starter, lamb for main, brownie and sorbet for desert. Excellent selection of wines, whisky and desert drinks

Yelp
My lovely boyfriend brought me here tonight as a surprise and for a late birthday dinner! It was amazing; it's such a small, quaint place but I loved it, especially because it was cosy and the menu had a few specific choices that we could choose from (quality over quantity) We ordered 3 mains (ox cheek, duck and fish) and white wine; everything was superb! Interesting flavours; a little bit asian, a little bit western. Great balance! We had the lemon posset with basil sorbet and this was such a delight! So refreshing and for me, a new taste for my palate. Staff were also super friendly and accommodating! Overall and great experience and will definitely recommend to friends!

Yelp
We visited Number 16 one very rainy lunchtime and it was an absolute delight! The place itself is very snug, although it might have had an upstairs too?! It was kitted out with lovely hand painted ceramics, decorated with the cutest little animals. The staff were very welcoming and brought us a jug of water and some fresh red pepper rolls with dipping oils when we arrived. To start with I had THE MOST DELICIOUS beetroot and goats cheese tart I have ever tasted. It was heaven and not only did it taste deliciously tangy, creamy, crumbly and fresh but it also looked like a work of art. The boy opted for a salmon fishcake with fresh pesto which was also delicious. For main I had a butternut squash with a balsamic glaze. It was great, it had a lovely mix of creamy risotto-y goodness with some firmer chunks of squash to give it nice texture. The boy opted for the coconut curry pork belly, which came with a mint and apple jelly. It was totally scrummy! For desert we had a delicious butterscotch cheesecake with salted caramel, apple jelly and apple puree. Needless to say it was just a delicious as it sounds. Sweet butterscotchy toffee with sharp apple...mmmmm! We had such a lovely afternoon here and their lunch menu was incredibly good value. I think this ought to be how every rainy afternoon is spent! I have posted some photos just to show how pretty each plate of food was.

Yelp
I, a foodie, have lived in Glasgow ten months and this is the best restaurant I have been to. I took a gamble brining my parents here when they came to visit as I knew it was small and none of my friends have been. But now the question is, why have my friends not been??? They will now after my non stop praise. Get the pork belly. It is their masterpiece. Accompanied by black pudding and an apple vanilla sauce the flavors are bold and magical. However, If you like monkfish, well the sauce my mother had was absolutely beautiful and delicious, making it almost just as good as my pork belly although extremely different. My fathers duck, although cooked perfectly, was the weakest dish simply due to the extraordinary measures of the other two. Also don't miss the dessert!!!! I don't even like apricots yet I could have destroyed the apricot cheesecake entirely on my own. However I let my father do that. I myself demolished the chocolate mousse with raspberry ice cream. It was what dreams are made of. Screw your diet, it's worth it. Go to Number 16. If you don't like it you can blame me. But you won't.

Yelp
While the food was mostly very good, our experience with the faux Red haired waitress was so unpleasant and full of attitude that I wish I'd left the restaurant when she first unleashed her toxic personality. Condescending sums it up. Her attitude comes up when you ask her a question. She manages to make you feel stupid and unwelcome very quickly. For someone as knowledgeable as her it's a mystery to me why I wasn't given a steak knife for my lower quality cut of beef. While we were signing for the dinner she turned on the charm for the first time as the tip was being decided.

Yelp
A small place that has a great restaurant! What a find in Glasgow! If you can make it, do not miss this restaurant for the food, friendly management, and easy welcoming atmosphere.

Yelp
Lovely wee place with a very interesting menu. We went on a Sunday and it was hoachin' but it still manages to keep a lovely calm and intimate atmosphere. Staff were friendly and attentive. The menu is creative so definitely a good place for people who like to be a bit more experimental but reckon you should check it in advance if anyone prefers to go plain. One of our dishes was Moroccan chicken with pomegranate and tabbouleh (very nice) but poultry and fruit isn't everyone's cup of tea. The soup was tasty but not what I expected- more of an Asian broth than a soup - and the portion size was a wee bit stingy, which was more to do with a shallow bowl than a tiny ladle.

Yelp
I have always loved Number 16, and my most recent visit was maybe the best yet! As always we were greeted by friendly staff, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed--not too stuffy. The complimentary, warm, homemade bread rolls with oils and butter were delicious as always. The starters were also fab--I'm always impressed that Number 16 plate decent sized portions, but every starter is created with light ingredients, leaving me satisfied but with plenty of room for the main event. The main course I had was perhaps one of the best meals I've ever eaten. I ordered the scallops after a long time deliberating the amazing menu. I was really pleased that I got a decent amount of fat, juicy and perfectly cooked scallops without being charged the earth (unlike most restaurants, where you pay £10+ for three insipid blobs). The accompaniments were just as glorious--pickled veg, an assortment of sweet and crunchy beetroot varieties and tender artichoke hearts. Eating it really was a blissful experience! My companions assured me their food was equally as amazing (the pork I tried was incredible); we were all very happy bunnies! The wine list in Number 16 is every bit as thoughtfully curated as the menu, and just as reasonably priced for the quality of the product. The Viognier we ordered was smooth and flavourful and went down a treat. Number 16 never fails to impress me. I love everything from the great menu and excellent service, down to the old coins captured in resin bubbles within the drift-wood tables. Don't miss an opportunity to visit!

Yelp
I was excited to get to try Number 16 since it had been on my bookmarks for awhile now. The meal was preset 2 or 3 course. The beet tartlet was the best thing I've put in my mouth in a long time. I didn't even want to share a bite of it. My second course was the Filet of Sea bream. The sear was spot on. We finished off with desert: a basil and apple sorbet with prosecco jelly and strawberries. It was really interesting/delicious. The place is very petite but that's not so bad. They do not overbook or keep everyone tightly next to each other. They turned away loads of people coming in the door and were reservation only on a Saturday so I recommend reserving a table to not disappoint. I could never imagine taking my toddler here-ever. I didn't see a highchair-this is more of a warning than a anti-toddler in fancy restaurant viewpoint.

Yelp
Now that's how to cook chicken! Finally dropped by for lunch after years of procrastinating. Wow! I could quite happily eat here every week to endulge in this exquisite modern British fair - no scrub that! On second thoughts I'd soon think flawless dining and beautiful service like this were the norm and always be disappointed when going elsewhere :-/ Dilemma - what to eat? Well, at £12 for 2 courses and £15 for 3 try it all over a few visits :-) (A wee hint. Book through 5pm and you'll get a free wine) Nothing more to say.

Yelp
This is still my favourite restaurant on Byres Road. Although compact and bijou, it really does have a really nice atmosphere about it. Have dinned here on a few occasions and every time we've had outstanding service and the food has been exceptional. If heading here at a weekend Its important you prebook as its very popular. We made our booking mid week and the only table we could get was at 6pm. We arrived half an hour early and the waiter was so lovely! He took us to our table and perused the menu over a couple of G&Ts. Great menu choice! For starters we opted for the King Prawn & Crab cocktail and the smoked venison. The venison was super tender! For mains we had the Pork Belly and the Gressingham Duck. again both were equally tender and flavoursome. The desserts though I can't recommend the banana peanut crumble enough, totally mouthwatering. All in all, great service, great menu, great wine selection!! You just cant go wrong here.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere and lovely food! We went yesterday for the 2 course pre-theatre which I believe was about £12.95 per person. I ordered the cream of carrot soup and then the tagliatelle with roast tomatoes, black olives, broad beans and rocket. My partner ordered the fishcake starter, which was large and came with a rocket salad. For the main course, he ordered the pork belly, which was rich and delicious (I had to try a bite) and came with a Thai flavoured peanut and bean sprout salad. To drink, I had a large glass of Sauvignon Blanc (only £3.95), which was not bad, and he ordered a bottle of Innis & Gunn (always delicious). While the food was really good, the restaurant's best features were its warm atmosphere, unique decor and attentive service. We enjoyed the delicious bread rolls that were offered to us during our first course and served with the options of both olive oil and butter. The servers often passed by our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. I'm a student and my partner is a musician so we are always looking for places to eat well on a budget. We'd recommend the pre-theatre option to anyone who'd like to do the same!

Yelp
The service was excellent and the food was simple and delicious. We were able to order from the 3-course menu and it was a bargain to boot. If the raspberry risotto is on the dessert menu, order it. Delicious!

Yelp
The food is actually rates more of a four, but the service and the atmosphere definitely merit five stars so I'm averaging up to reflect a brilliant night out at No. 16. I made a reservation on 5pm.co.uk, which was advertising quite a good deal at this restaurant with 3 courses and a 1/2 bottle of wine for £15.95/person. Fantastic. Seeing that it had great reviews, I made a reservation, and noted we were eating there on our ten year anniversary. When we arrived, we were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate our anniversary! How lovely! All I'd wanted was to make sure we didn't get a shittay table, but they went above and beyond. The restaurant itself is small, but in an intimate and inviting way, not in a cramped and invasive way. Lighting, about which I am quite picky, was perfect--a warm flattering light, but not so dim as to make reading the menu impossible. We were given a set menu, but there was no mention of the 1/2 bottle of wine with the price. I mentioned the deal we'd booked to our waitress, and she went off to get our wine, returning with a full bottle. When I asked her about it, (I didn't want to be cheeky and take a full bottle if that wasn't the deal), she said it was a 1/2 bottle *per person,* and 5pm.co.uk had published the deal wrong but they had to honor it. Wha-hey! She was gracious and good humored about this, and we were, to say the least, delighted. So, on to the food. The odd thing about the menu is that all of the starters were the equivalent of mains. A mini fish pie, meatballs with pasta, a ham hock. And then all of the mains were equally as rich and carbohydrate-laden. I would have loved some green veggies in there somewhere...a salad starter, perhaps. However, once we got our meals we were relieved to see that the portions were small, so after the meal I felt pleasantly full, as opposed to stuffed. The food itself was lovely--local, fresh, seasonal ingredients done simply and well. Besides lighting I am also quite picky about the pacing of courses, and they got it just right. There was about 10-15 minutes between each course--enough time to digest and enjoy, but not so much time that you started to wonder where your food was. Service was impeccable from beginning to end. Eating here was a delight. This is a bit down from the main swanky bit of Byres road, so walk that extra half a mile and get yourself here. It's a fantastic spot for romance, catching up with friends or just treating yourself to some affordable fine dining.

Yelp
Number 16 is my new favourite restaurant. Based on recommendations from friends, I decided to take my family here when they visited Glasgow for my graduation. This tiny restaurant at the bottom of Byres Road is so small it's almost miss-able. Split into two levels- it does feel rather cramped when busy however despite the small size, it has three main things going for it. Firstly, the service I experienced was second to none. The waitress was very friendly and efficient, no complaints whatsoever. Secondly, the prices were very resonable meaning that I don't have to wait until my parents next visit to go back again. And finally, and most importantly, the food. Quite possibly the nicest food I've had in Glasgow. So much so, I wanted to walk into the kitchen and personally thank the chef. Check it out pronto. Bookings advised.

Yelp
Nice small friendly restaurant with great atmosphere with music to match. We went early on and stayed a while taking our time to relax enjoy some lovely wine and food. Highlights for me had to be the Buffalo mozzarella radicchio mango & apple salad but can't fault the seven spice roast breast of duck and dark chocolate marquise. Well worth a visit

Yelp
Was living in Scotland for a spell and tried this place with my visiting main squeeze for a nice night out on the recommendation of everyone, and it was really, really delicious. He ordered the beef, I had the lamb. Everything was perfect, cozy and utterly delicious (even the sides, and I typically don't like sides so much), and we drank cheap wine and watched the chefs from a fun little balcony level table while they arranged our meal for us perfectly. It's a nice little place--- friendly, warm, romantic and not obnoxious in any way. I left seriously overfed and a happy, happy camper. Tied with the Chip for my number one fancy feast recommendation in Glasgow!

Yelp
I made a appointment with my bosom friend. We both enjoy the starters and main courses. And the decorative plates is our favorite.

Yelp
Wow - what a delightful restaurant. We visited in early May and had an exquisite lunch here. We both opted for the set menu. For my starter, I had the heirloom tomato salad. The tomatoes were incredibly fresh and full of flavor. For my main course, I went with the herbed gnocchi. I've never had such light and airy gnocchi before! Truly delicious. The wait staff was all incredibly nice and several of them even stopped over to chat about our travels through the UK. Note that the restaurant is very small (only ~10 small tables in the whole place) so make sure to call ahead, as you don't want to miss Number 16!

Yelp
A very small restaurant so booking is essential. We ordered from the set menu and while I liked my main course, I thought my starter and dessert were nicer.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. The interior and design is so enchanting. The service was amazing and the food was incredible. Different delicious ideas, definitely a must if you have not been yet!

Yelp
The two times I've been here I've throughly enjoyed the experience. This tiny place creates such an intimate environment with its lovely dimmed lighting and attentive staff. I had gnocchi for a main and since then I've never had another gnocchi prepared so well. Wine selection is fab and the after dinner cheese from George Mewes was a perfect way to end an evening. If you are looking for a place with both food and atmosphere this is it!

Yelp
Went here for a birthday dinner so didn't mind the expense but a bit pricey for a normal dinner. It isn't quite fine dining I wouldn't say so the price doesn't justify the service. I had extremely high hopes of this place after reading reviews but feel it didn't quite live up to standards. It was still a very nice restaurant but nothing spectacular. The food lived up to the price though and the wine is cheap. The prawn dumpling soup was nice and the complimentary bread was a good match for this starter. Most of my party had the scallops for main which were cooked to perfection with a slightly sweet sauce that goes very well. The lamb looked lovely..was a bit disappointed that I never ordered it myself. The desserts didn't really tempt me..maybe I had ate too much birthday cake during the day but they did look very nice. It is a very small place so book well in advance. I booked 2 weeks in advance and could only get a table at 9pm on a Saturday night!

Yelp
I dined here last night. Although a small restaurant, you feel very comfortable once seated. It has a great atmosphere, fast and friendly service and absolutely delicious, and healthy food, made with freshest ingredients. The seasoning level was perfection, nothing to be faulted here, I only have praise for this charming little eatery!

Yelp
perfection! imagine: two jaded (in a good way) new yorkers who have 'seen it all', and dined at some of the finest restaurants in the world . . . we were blown away. it was perfect for what we wanted in glasgow - authentic, relaxing, comfortable - with scintillating (not an overstatement) food. only had two mains - the duck breast and the lamb, with a side of kale and some 'mixed leaves' . . . yeah, yeah, yeah . . . more hipster, locally sourced, blah, blah, blah . . . but, not at all! clearly, a great deal of thought was put into each item on the plate, from the key ingredients to their supports, and even the garnishes - some just a smear, but providing the right counterpoint. after the first few bites, we were floored - looking at each other in disbelief and exchanging a taste of our dishes. the chef is clearly dedicated to providing well thought out combinations and optimizing flavor, texture and color combinations. BRAVO! to make things even better, the scale of the restaurant is extremely comforting and pleasant - conversation can be had with normal voices. the service was provided with heartfelt care and attention - advice given, friendly smiles, graciousness abounded. i cannot remember a meal in the last five years i've enjoyed as much. we finished with cheeses and a single malt - from arrran - like the owners (one is maître d'hôtel, with aplomb, grace and style) . . . a perfect finish to a very memorable and enjoyable meal and evening. can't recommend more highly. will definitely be back!

Yelp
Delicious food and great service at a reasonable price. Get the braised Ox's cheek, even if you're vegetarian, it's that good...

Yelp
I went to this restaurant after seeing all the positive reviews about it. I was first impressed by the decoration, which is quite unique. The restaurant is quite small which creates an intimate atmosphere, actually. We ordered directly mains which arrived 25 minutes after we ordered them, like the waitress warned us. They definitely worth the wait. The presentation is original and appealing for the eye. The combination of the different flavours together was amazing! The ingredients used were simple but from high-quality. The wine was delicious- the best wine I had in a restaurant in Glasgow- being French I'm most of the time disappointed by it- but not this time ;) The desserts were creative and tasty. The only negative aspect would be the portions, they are a bit small. Personally, I was just fine but my partner had to go buy a sandwich right after- not what you expect after visiting a restaurant. Anyway, this is a really good restaurant, one of the best I've visited in Glasgow!

Yelp
Been here many times over the two years I've lived in Glasgow. It's a cozy little restaurant just off Sauchiehall street. The food is always excellent and the options for imbibing are wonderful as well. The staff is very flexible with requests and the service is great. I highly recommend No16

Yelp
Just spend over a week in Glasgow and had a bunch of great meals - will get around to all of them in the near future but the best of the very good list was Number 16. First of all it is uber cute - intimate - small - tiny - you get it - book ahead. Then there is the service which was terrific (not that service in Scotland is ever bad - looking at you USA) but Number 16 was a cut above in being personable and providing tons of detail on what we were about to eat. We started with two different glasses of by the glass reds - both were very fine. Then came the starters - we had three dining and everyone (mostly) willing to share - I will go in no particular order. Crispy Ox Tongue is not something you see in the states (at least not my state) but it was so perfect with a large dollop of caramelized onion you received an intense meat flavor which had a thin crispy crust that immediately gave way to the soft tongue (yea I went there) inside - I could have ordered three and been happy. Next the Sautéed Squid in a red pepper piperade (look it up) - screw fried squid - this is the way it should always be served with a red pepper accompaniment that balances the dish - beautiful and delicious. Finally the Wye Valley Asparagus with chicken wing confit and a mushroom veloute - it was another pitch perfect dish and the owner would barely share - sad face. As good as the starters were the entrees took the whole meal to another level - I went pan seared duck breast with the neatest little duck pon pons you will ever see - served with celeriac puree and seared baby gem - the duck was just cooked to perfection - so easy to overcook - just an amazing dish. My wife tried the Roast Monkfish Tail with smoked ham hock - delivered by itself it would have been a great dish but the pour over of a smoky broth sent the experience to another planet - seldom I am dish envy - especially when the duck was soooo good - but damn that fish was great. Last entree was the pork belly - I would have ordered but had just had pork belly a night early - if this is their signature dish it is with good reason - a huge piece of pork belly had been roulade into a disk and sauced with an apple and vanilla concoction that I could have drank straight from a glass - to top it off black pudding and piccalilli accompanied the dish. If dinner had stopped there it would have been fantastic but my daughter remember reading to not miss the desserts - and we can honestly say - DON'T MISS THE DESSERTS. I will have naughty dreams about the Apricot Cheesecake - this is not your corner bakers over sweet presentation - this is grown up cheesecake baked with camembert cheese which gave it a much cheesier (is that a word) flavor which I loved - the sides of apricot and blackberry jelly were great as was the coconut snow (you are just going to have to go try that). The other dessert was a show stopper - the dark chocolate blackberry pave with blackberry sorbet was both fantastic and almost too good looking to eat - but we did and happy we did so - the pave was somehow both light and dense (i know that makes zero sense) with a slightly tart sorbet - a perfect finish to a special dinner. Can't recommend high enough. Again service was great and the prices super reasonable given the quality of the meal.
