"Soy substitutes for fried chicken, crab, and chicken fried steak fill platters and sandwiches at this vegan soul food spot near Howard University. Meanwhile, a vegan brunch menu hits the classics with burritos, “cheezy” grits, and scrambled tofu. Order online at any of the three area locations. NuVegan also maintains locations in Baltimore, Richmond, and Woodbridge." - Tierney Plumb, Stephanie Carter

"NuVegan could convert the most ardent meat eaters into adopting a vegan diet. Dishes such as the vegan “chick’n” drummies and crab cake sandwich — both made with soy — taste and look so similar to the real thing that customers might not notice a difference within the first couple bites. To wash down all that comfort food, NuVegan has an expansive menu of fresh juices. Order online here." - Stephanie Williams

I exaggerate not that living abroad the last few years I’ve frequently fantasized over the sweet kale here and I make it a priority to go here anytime I’m back in town. My staples are the bbq tofu, mac n cheese and red wine kale but it’s one of those places you can’t go wrong. I plan on returning for a smoothie and cinnamon bun the size of my face before leaving.

Google
Best vegan food I’ve ever eaten in my life. So glad I stopped in while visiting DC. Our favorites were the lasagna, the Mac and cheese, the kale salad, the mushroom salad, and the cinnamon bun. But, all things we tried were very good! Definitely will be coming back for my annual DC trip next year.

This place has potential. The flavor was really good. The cabbage could have been cooked longer. Cake slices could have been smaller. The maccaroni and cheese was really, really good and the fish chips were amazing. I was thinking of ordering a fish sandwich to go, as i know it would have been fire. I must add, this restaurant needs to move because there were zombie drug addicts across the street. This is new to me as I'm not from around these parts. Very sad to see in our nations capital. All in all it was good food in a not so good area.

I came up from Alexandria and was so excited to try this place out with the great reviews. It was a huge let down. The chicken breading had a good texture but entirely lacked seasoning. The inside of the chicken also had good texture and held up well with the wooden dowel "bone" but again, lacked seasoning. The greens were just salted, no smoked Paprika, garlic or onion to be tasted at all. The Mac n cheese was like macaroni noodles and some sort of either cashew ricotta or a soft tofu, so it didnt give you that mac n cheese vibe. The flavor was almost there but again lacked any pop. The cinnamon roll was dense as if they didn't allow the dow to rise or they didn't use enough yeast. Additionally, it was dry and almost hard, I found it difficult to cut with a knife. I won't be going here again or recommending it, it just doesn't hit the mark. Hip City Veg is the place to go in the D.C. area for vegan food.

Google
First time visiting NuVegan while here in DC. Easy to find, street parking available. Good music, plenty of seating, all food looked very fresh and good. The 2 guys working were very polite greeted me as soon as I walked in. I went with the country fried steak and mac n cheese. Both were delicious, just wish the steak had gravy, I didn't ask maybe they have some. I will definitely visit again to try alot more of the menu as I travel to DC pretty often.

Google
The food here was really good. I usually DON'T eat vegan food, but tried it because my sister does eat vegan. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.....the food was really, really good!! I even bought desserts such as peach cobbler & a cinnamon roll which is HUGE!! I would definitely go back here when I'm in the DC area.....they made me a believer in vegan food.

Vegan restaurants tend to be a bit pricey no matter what city they are in, so the prices were pretty much expected. Being from Texas, I am used to meal/plate options. However, they only offered a la carte, which can be good if you are with a group and want to share with others. The portions were large, what one would expect with a la cart, but too much for a person traveling alone. The plate option would have been better for me as I was in town visiting. It appears that they use a lot of soy options for meat substitutes, which may be a problem for those who try to keep soy out of their diet. For those who don't mind, they did a pretty good job with the chicken drumetts, the okra and tomatoes was my least favorite; too salty (taste like seasoning and salt were used) and undercooked for my preferences. Also, there were very few tomatoes. However, some people like their okra crunchy so it is a matter of preference. The collard greens were perfect! I absolutely loved them. Next time I am in D.C. I will make a stop just for the greens. The restaurant was very clean with plenty of seating.

Google
We were visiting DC and are vegan. The food was pretty good. I wouldn’t say it would have a very high health score the meat substitute TVP. The ribs are TVP with barbecue sauce and the cheesesteak was seasoned TVP. They were out of sweet potatoes and rolls for the cheesesteak so they put it in a wrap and if this happens to you I would suggest not getting the wrap. The Mac & Cheese was really good. We also got broccoli that was , careot salad and collard greens. The carrot salad was vinegar based and the texture was strange. The collards didn’t have much flavor.

Yelp
The best vegan soul food in the area. The selections are incredible. I recommend the vegetable sides plus the mac and cheese.

Vinay V.

Yelp
Unexpectedly delicious place. This place is massive. A lot of room to sit and some very interesting takes on plant based soul food. You can taste the love with which the food was prepared. Highly recommend, anything you try is good but they will give you great suggestions and also will give you generous samples to try. I will come back again.

Hannah H.

Yelp
I remember this place being really tasty, especially for a vegan restaurant. The subsequent visits, however, weren't great at all - the mac & cheese, which I used to love for its denseness and cheesiness, was coagulated and super bland; there wasn't that 'cheese pull' that used to be there. The Country Fried Steak and the Vegan Lasagna, which I was excited about, were not what I expected them to be, as the taste was off-putting and strange, and definitely not in a good way. On a side note: Whoever is in charge of writing the menu should really be more conscientious and more aware of using certain terminology that is super offensive and archaic. Do better. +inconsistent in quality of items +off-putting flavors +offensive menu item names/descriptions +extremely limited parking

Yelp
This is the spot to be in D.C. for all vegans looking for a great plant based meal. I of course found this restaurant on Yelp before coming to D.C. and looked forward to trying it out. Service was pleasant as we stood in line cafeterias style to order our food. There was plenty of hot and cold sides to choose from as well as their hot entrees. This is one of the most healthiest soul food places you will find the the area. The food is placed in styrofoam containers, so you can eat inside at one of the tables or just as easily take it to go. The portions were very generous and everything was seasoned well. I had lasagna with a side of well seasoned greens. The lasagna was slightly sweet and dense while the greens were perfectly cooked and had a nice smokey flavor. I was satisfied with my meatless meal and would come back for more anytime. Hats off to whoever is behind the scenes at NuVegan.

Yelp
You can't go wrong w anything you order here, this place is damn good. My favorites are the buffalo drummies, mac n cheese, tuna salad, & sweet potatoes. The service is always great & the food is truly comfort vegan food. This has easily become my go-to place, I just wish there was a location near the harbor in MD !

Shai R.

Yelp
I'm so glad I found this restaurant through Google search followed up by yelp suggestions. This place exceeded my expectations. The food was absolutely amazing! I thought the fried fish looked like eggplant but it definitely wasn't eggplant. The texture was just like fish or possibly chicken. The macaroni & cheese was so creamy and flavorful! I wanted to ask how did they get it to be so creamy. The greens and sweet potatoes were tasty as well. I think the winner out of all the dishes was the lasagna! It was absolutely delicious! We had to go back and order another order of lasagna after tasting it. Also, the portion sizes are spectacular. The customer service was good. The staff were helpful in letting us know what was their favorite dish. Despite being on a busy street near Howard university, the ambiance still felt welcoming with a cozy atmosphere. When I'm back in DC I will be sure to stop by NuVegan again.

Tawana J.

Yelp
I used to eat here all the time pre-pandemic. The food quality was fantastic back then and unmatched. Things have changed! Some food is still good, but I have stopped ordering mac and cheese because it is blah, and the southern potato salad is only good sometimes. Also, the availability of sides is up and down. The food at the College Park location now tastes better.

A P.

Yelp
I was really disappointed in the service and food my last two visits, but my last experience really was disappointing. I've been a loyal customer of this establishment since it opened. I celebrated my 50th birthday this past weekend and my children ordered catering for my party. The employees were, super rude when the food was picked up and part of the food that should have been hot was cold and the ginger spiced tofu that I wanted tasted like it was rotten. The ginger spiced tofu was not spicy at all, it tasted like vinegar, as if it was not fresh. Based on my children's experience when they picked up the food, no one wanted to return it, or call the establishment, we just threw it away. I did not have food for my own birthday party. I was really upset, but I felt bad for my children because they tried to make it perfect and it was except for this.

Kiah R.

Yelp
I am not vegan and I enjoyed this food, granted I did get all side portions. I am not a fan of the vegan "meat", everything was full of flavor. The customer service was good, I ordered my food to go. It is a little pricey but it is in DC where everything is pricey so be prepared for that, they do have a dine in space.

Denise H.

Yelp
My whole family went to this restaurant yesterday and were extremely disappointed with the poor service and even poorer attitude of the staff. Not only is the food subpar, but to have horrible service on top of it is incomprehensible. It's just too bad that some places aren't ready for primetime. Two thumbs down. Let's make it three thumbs down since the attitudes were flying heavy.

Tawnie G.

Yelp
Can I give this place 10 stars?? I'm not kidding, there's no reason they should have anything less than a solid 5. I drive so far for this food and it's amazing every time I get it! Legit dream of their Mac and cheese! And everyone is so friendly, just getting served by their staff makes your day better. I legit love this place. Thank you for the most incredible food! The only negative thing I can say is that they haven't opened a spot in VA yet! Obsessed!

Sarah M.

Yelp
NuVegan was conveniently located near our Columbia Heights Airbnb and it was a lifesaver after a long day of travel. I'll admit, I was initially skeptical about vegan soul food. However, when we went in, we were met with warm hospitality and generous samples because it was our first time visiting. Upon the first bite, I was blown away. We ordered meals with the chicken sandwich, sweet potatoes, Mac n cheese, lasagna, kale salad, and more. It was SO good. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area!!

Sean B.

Yelp
The food here is so good sometimes I get emotional from how happy I am eating it. Particular highlights are the wings, Mac n cheese, collard greens, and sautéed cabbage

Miranda K.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered delivery through DoorDash. The food came promptly. I was so hungry so I ordered a lasagne, and a mac n cheese. My husband ordered "chicken" drummies and this sweet potato dish. The food arrived in a paper bag. I sat down and got out the food. I was so dissapointed to see what looked like the smallest portion of lasagne I have ever seen, it also looked pretty flat. I was happy that I had ordered the mac n cheese too. I opened up the mac n cheese. It was a better portion of food. When I think of mac n cheese, it is creamy almost, with a cheese sauce mixed in with the pasta. This was not even slightly like that. I don't know what they use for their "cheese" but it had the texture of baby food and it was tasteless, no flavour at all. The lasagne was ok, it definitely never filled me up. To top it off, my food was luke warm at best! I mean, using a paper bag to deliver food is not the way to keep it warm for your customers. I had one of my husbands drummies, they were nice, the best thing out of the whole order. NuVegan continue to let me down, this is the second location I have eaten from. I feel like there is no passion in this business. It could be awesome. Such a shame. I will not be ordering from that location again.

Jana W.

Yelp
Great Customer service. Nice and clean location with awesome ambiance. THE BEST VEGAN FOOD EVER!!!!

Jackie W.

Yelp
The vegan mac & cheese and chicken drumsticks for probably the best dishes that I had. I'm a bigger fan of the chicken drumsticks than I am of the mac & cheese. I also ordered the red curry tofu that is a cold dish and it was not my favorite and I will not be ordering again. I came here around 3 PM as a late lunch meal and there were four of us in line with one woman behind the counter serving all of us our to go plates and they were three people working there putting up Halloween decorations which is crazy because the customers just stood in line waiting, while the staff spent all the time putting up decorations. The person behind me in line said that the service at this place has gone down.

Yelp
Delicious vegan comfort food! Love coming here over the years! So glad they simplified the menu with a la carte instead of the confusing entree and sides menu previously. With a standard daily hot bar menu and paired down menu, the food seems to be much fresher. Chicken Drummies - Hearty and hands-down my favorite item on the menu! The crispy drummies are so juicy and tender, even makes my carnivorous hubby forget about chicken wings. You can get them a la carte and just pay for individual drummies or get 5 as a entree. Mac and Cheese - Creamy and hits the spot! Hard to believe there's no milk or cheese! Garlicky and Sweet Kale - Get 1/2 and 1/2 of both the savory and sweet kale, they blend really together. The garlic kale has a bold flavor while the sweet kale perfectly balances it out. Lasagna - Zesty and bursting with flavor. The last two times I came here, the staff had just put out a fresh tray! Black Bean burger - Crispy burger is flavorful, but overpowered by the bbq sauce and mayo and the gigantic dense bun. Will opt for the wrap and ask for "light" sauces next time! Pina Colada Smoothie - Refreshing and tasty! As a tip, you can get points for loyalty visits. After 10 visits, you can receive a $8 voucher. Best time for the freshest food is around lunch or dinnertime on the weekends while the worst time is around dinner on the weekdays, generally the food from lunch sits around and goes stale into dinnertime. Definitely worth the trek from McLean for a vegan feast! Excited to keep coming back for that finger lickin' drummies, mac and cheese, and garlicky sweet kale!

Joshelyn ..

Yelp
Great vegan spot in DC! Highly recommend! The portions are vast and I'm SUPER impressed by this! I had enough food to save for later which I did because this food made me full yet not stuffed. The lasagna was delicious as was the macaroni and cheese and kale salad. The kale salad was far from bland, and macaroni and cheese was nostalgic to say the least. The bathroom was clean, the dining area which was not occupied at the time was clean, and the line wasn't bad so we received our order quickly. I ended up also getting a side of the macaroni salad and it was amazing as well! I hate I didn't get any dessert however I'll be back! Kudos to y'all for doing great vegan soul food! I'm a fan!

Love J.

Yelp
Vegan food is hard to find however the prices are not worth what you get. The Mac and cheese is burnt most times and the serving sizes are small for what you pay. The service is ok at times. Nobody smiles, everyone seems pissed of most times and trying to make light convo about what they suggest is like talking to a 2 year old at times. It gives you expensive, stingy and unfriendly vibes. I think they need to reduce the price by 2 dollars if they are going to give unfriendly, burnt service.

Shonta' H.

Yelp
I treated myself, my husband, my daughter, & my friend to lunch here with my friend being the only vegan among us. The cost was way too expensive for me although the food was okay. I've had better from other vegan restaurants. The Oreo Cheesecake was nasty af! It had this oily residue coming off of it swirling around in the container, the cookie itself was soft, & the cheesecake itself left an aftertaste in your mouth. *GaG!!* I will never, ever get that again! I also stopped buying the cinnamon bun some time ago because it was stale every time I got 1 when at 1 point they used to be so fresh that you couldn't tell that it was vegan. I stopped eating here for years because they took away the 1 thing that I like which was the Salisbury Steak. It was my favorite. I used to go here on a regular for the Salisbury Steak, Mash Potatoes, Greens, & a cinnamon bun like clockwork. After they took away the 1 thing I did like, I stopped going. I only went here this time after, I think it's been now, a 4 or 5-year hiatus because my vegan friend wanted to eat here. It cost well over $100+ bucks to feed a party of 4. I can go somewhere else to feed us cheaper & the food is tastier. Hell, I can make tastier food at home for cheaper than this. I just didn't have time to cook with our lunch being on such a tight time schedule. NuVegan has once again shown me why I stayed away & will not return for another long stretch, if ever.

Diy F.

Yelp
The Mac, greens, and fried fish will definitely return when in the area! Service was good, with ample street parking.

Marcia D.

Yelp
I wish I had a picture but I don't. This vegan eatery went above and beyond my expectations. A friend of mind from New Orleans recommended this place since she knew I was in the DC area. The food was delicious and I had to take it to go. Yes there is space to dine in but the folk I was with were in a rush. I ordered a side of yams, mac and cheese and chicken wings. Yes I said chicken wings vegan of course. I chewed the chicken down to the very stick. The food was flavorful and savory. My favorite of course was the Mac and Cheese . Please try it! If your lactose intolerant no worries it's safe. I cannot wait to go back. Don't mind the wall of Fame. Celebrities like good food too!

Kareem W.

Yelp
I have seen this place for years now and didn't think it would be good, actually it's Delicious!!! I literally ate everything I got in one setting. Mac& cheese, chicken sandwich and sweet potato (candied yams) were all really good!! Well done and very tasty for vegan food.

Zakia C.

Yelp
This is the BEST location. The options are abundant. The food is always fresh and flavorful. The service is always on point. We have a location in Woodbridge now, but it just isn't the same. Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend.

Naomi C.

Yelp
Nu vegan food is always good, the menu is nice, but have mercy on the service!! My parents came to town and are strictly vegan. We decided to take them to this location as it split the difference between Shepherd Park and downtown. We get there and there is no host, no servers, and no customer service. My parents had to push tables together then we had to order from the line -yes it's mainly a takeaway place, BUT it's a large party, with kids, sitting down and you have the AUDACITY to ask for a tip for packing carry outs- and they SAW US (4 kids) sitting down and offered no plates, no cups and no extra napkins. It took them FOREVER TO BRING OUT PLATES and, when they got there, they were wet. The kids fell on the food like ravenous hyenas and ate all the crab cakes, all the chik'n nuggets, all the bbq ribs, all the broccoli, cabbage, and collards and all the sweet potatoes, cornbread, and all the water. From the four water bottles we bought. My parents got the ribs and the fish and enjoyed that too. Everyone was full and happy. That said... I ... just. The food is always good, the parking is trash but the ambiance is GREAT. The music is good, the vibes are good and the people are NICE, BUT they're nice and useless, nice and clueless, nice and lacking in common sense, and nice and untrained in service. Uber eats ONLY.

Mari M.

Yelp
BELIEVE THE HYPE! Everything was amazing. How do they make that Mac and cheese???? Collard greens were so tasty, best I've had in years.

Carlecia S.

Yelp
Never disappoints! I eat from here EVERY TIME I'm in the area of passing through! Hoping for them to open a location in Hampton Roads!

Meghan P.

Yelp
Review update!!! So this restaurant is now charging for per item rather than for the plate. So instead of paying $15 which is still ridiculous I paid over $23. This is my absolute last time coming here.

Kristine A.

Yelp
Well this place is certainly worth the trek. I was so glad to find a bus that stops almost right in front of the restaurant. The fact that there is a line when you walk in & continues after get in it means that it's definitely waiting. The art work & quotes on the wall are pretty & give it that added touch it needs. They basically have this cafeteria style set up which is pretty old school. One case has the cold food & then there the hot food in the other part. I ended up getting a variety of four cold salads & it wasn't cheap either- $20, but I certainly enjoyed it & ate it all. I think they should label the items as you don't know what the ingredients are in what they're serving, so then you have to ask, the person doesn't know, & have to ask someone else. I will have to say as tasty delicious as this place is, they get negative points for all the plastic they waste. I mean you're giving us food in a plastic container even if we're dining in? Then a plastic bag on top of it is completely unnecessary & doesn't make sense in the least. Let's stop being wasteful, ok?

David H.

Yelp
Finally stopped in to try NuVegan and was impressed. Tons of sides, you can sample them up front and everything I tried was delicious. The star for me is the chicken wings - great texture and flavor, not quite replacing wings for me but a great alternative. The cheesesteak was a nice sandwich - not really a cheesesteak, but a nice bbq seitan sandwich. Very filling.

Jami J.

Yelp
Babbaayyy!! This vegan soul food is what you need in your life‼ I inhaled the chicken, mac & cheese, garlicky kale, and the crab cake! Definitely coming back!

Genesis J.

Yelp
So amazing so delicious , fresh and flavorful the spicy tofu was divine and the garlic kale is always so tasty. If you are looking for a quick and efficient healthy yet tasty restaurant please try Nuvegan Café. The ambience is always comfortable and friendly.

Maxy B.

Yelp
I stopped by to get food but ended up just getting the Mac and cheese because the rest of the food there did not look appetizing. While I was hesitant to get the Mac and cheese it was flavorful. I gave it 4 stars because the guy on the counter was not friendly and was having a side conversation instead of prepping my order.

Sabra R.

Yelp
NuVegan is my go to whenever I feel the need to take a break from meat, chicken, and fish and they never disappoint! I drove all the way over from SE to pick up some yumminess for the week. I got my usuals-- curried yuba salad, curried tofu, and sweet kale salad. Every single bite was super flavorful and delicious! But this time, I also got a few new (to me) items. The garlic kale, chkn salad, and drummies are mind-blowingly delicious!! Whoa! SOOO good! The prices are still quite reasonable and the customer service is great! I love this place! Please consider opening a Ward 7 or 8 location!! Maybe Skyland? (hint hint). I'd be there daily!

D M.

Yelp
Best vegan soul food you will ever eat. Sides, entrees and desserts are second to none.

Molly K.

Yelp
NuVegan is amazing! They have so many menu items and there is something for soul food lovers and health conscious individuals. I love their chicken drummies the most and cannot pick which side dish I like best. Their BBQ sauce is a little sweet for me, but I enjoy all the other flavors and sauces they have.

Sophia H.

Yelp
Chick'n sandwich was great and flavorful. Can't believe it's not chicken, since it actually did taste like chicken! The side of red wine kale was also great, very generously portioned and flavorful. Service was great too.

Crystal T.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in D.C. i make it a point to never leave without having food from here. The greens have a great smoky flavor and the yams(sweet potatoes) are delicious. I love cheese and vegan cheese doesn't always hit the spot but this is the best vegan mac I've ever had. The chk'n drumsticks, which are so amazingly crafted to mimic actual wings, are very good and toddler approved(even tho she doesn't really like veggie meat) Anyone looking for good vegan/vegetarian options, i definitely recommend. Looking forward to my next visit.

Kellie M.

Yelp
I visited here on 11/3/23. I ordered the chicken quesadilla. I placed my order at 3:05pm. At 3:30, after watching all of the customers that ordered after me come and go, my order still wasn't ready. I requested a refund. I sent an email complaint, Friday afternoon, and have yet to receive a response. This was the 2nd time I've had terrible service from this NuVegan. The last time was back in June of 2023 when I ordered the chicken quesadilla and the attached picture is what I opened when I got home. A burnt quesadilla. I will NOT support this establishment again.

Arcadia S.

Yelp
In DC w my kids for an animal liberation march and this was the perfect way to end the day. The food at NuVegan never disappoints; it nourishes the body and soul. YES: kid friendly YES: 100% VEGAN

Jessica L.

Yelp
We got our food to go and had a little picnic by the Washington memorial. Our food had been sitting in their to go container for probably close to 40 minutes, and it was still so delicious. My girlfriend and I split the chicken sandwich, and when I tell you it was so so yummy, I am telling you the truth. We wished we had ordered our own, because it was so yummy. We also had fries (which got soggy in the container, again sitting for a long time, but they're the crinkle cut fries- yummy!) and sweet potatoes (which I didn't love, bc they were very stringy). When we walked in, it was a whole vibe. There was good music playing, and we were greeting upon getting to the counter. We can't wait to visit NuVegan again!

John M.

Yelp
If you are too busy to change the information on your website or Google then maybe don't be too busy to answer simple questions over the phone. female angrily hangs up on me when I ask a important question about another location . 10/26 5:20pm

McTerry T.

Yelp
Amazing! Flavorful and soul food vegan food is hard to find but look no further! Had the lemon pepper drummers, Mac and cheese, collards and corn bread. Everything delicious.

Sara D.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here. The drumsticks were great but I found what looks like plastic wrap and paper (with lettering on it) in the yuba side dish. I dislike writing negative reviews especially about vegan restaurants but this is very concerning from a food safety perspective. Won't be ordering from here again.

Christine M.

Yelp
Nuvegan is my all time favorite food, ever, ever. My friends and family make fun of me for how obsessed I am with this place. When I lived in DC I would come here most every Sunday since I lived right down the street. Now that I've moved to SF, I still dream about the chickn drummies and complain to anyone who will listen that SF would be significantly improved if they had a Nuvegan. I've tried vegan comfort food across North America and nothing compares I promise you. Side note - I'm not vegan. It's just that good. My go to is the chickn drummies entree with two sides - mac and cheese and collard greens. The chickn is always perfectly fried and delicious and there is a cute little stick inside. The mac and cheese will have you confused that it's totally vegan because it's so good and they really give heaping portions for the sides. Give it a try!

Brittanie H.

Yelp
NuVegan is one of my must-haves when I come to DC. There are a few locations in the DMV, BUT this is the original and the Queen of them in all in terms of service and quality of the food. When you walk in, the good vibes are apparent. They always have a bomb playlist to keep you entertained while you wait in line. I always do a little dance in anticipation of the greatness that awaits me. The staff is always smiling, and free samples are also given to those who'd like to try their dishes before ordering. I have tried lots of their menu items, smoothies, and sides and loved them all. However, my regular order is lasagna with garlicky kale and macaroni salad, a side of chick'n drummies, and a cinnamon bun. The portions are huge, so this normally gets me through a day and a half of meals. On this most recent visit, I decided to add the BBQ ribs to my regular order after hearing great feedback on them from a fellow patron during a previous visit. I have a special love for their BBQ sauce and was excited to try something slathered in such greatness. The entree comes with brown rice. The texture and the taste of the ribs are on par with your Uncle's best cookout ribs. The sweetness and spice of the sauce are spectacular. I have brought several non-vegans friends here, and they have remarked that many of the dishes are better than their non-vegan versions AND that if being a vegan always tasted like this, they'd do it in a heartbeat. I hope those sentiments fuel NuVegan to keep expanding their empire and creating delicious and healthy food in Black communities throughout the country.

Yelp
I heard so many good things about this place and it definitely didn't disappoint. There's so many options that it's hard to go wrong, but basically, yes to everything. I love vegan places that can impress non-vegans and this is one. Everything was so good and you wouldn't have known it was vegan.

Yelp
Usually when I come to this place it's not as bad it's ok. I told myself no more because of the disrespect and the lack of customer service but I just couldn't resist the taste of the food. I was highly disappointed upon entering no one was serving, you can hear laughter and talk coming from the room they were in and a potent smell of marijuana. A young lady came out with a rolled joint and I requested to see a manager she said she is the manager with a attitude long story short I ended up skipping dinner I left in disgust

Yelp
I ordered the lasagna. It was very good. The flavors were good. The staff provided samples of the other items to try. I decided on Mac and Cheese and greens. Someone in the party had the crab cakes. They were good. Everyone enjoyed the flavor of the crab cake sandwich and reported that they would order it again. The cabbage was alright. The food wasn't too hot as it is pre cooked cafeteria style. Except our orders of crab cakes they said sandwiches come from the back.

Yelp
While the food is amazing it seems to be an issue EVERY time I visit this location in DC. Never a single issue at any of the other 3 locations I frequent. They make it very difficult to patronize them. I asked to have my 2 items in individual containers and was told I'd be charged extra...who wants side dish juice on their chickn? But ok. Fine I'll pay. Then...after calling to verify that I can indeed order a large catering order in person, I arrive only to no told I need to do it online. After having to PROVE that I did in fact call the location and asking for another "manager" they finally agreed to place my order in person only to find out the online menu pricing isn't correct!! And is more expensive a significant amount ($75+). We'll pass...as much as we truly enjoy their food, it's become a bit much at THIS specific location so we will opt out of supporting the DC location.
