3.75 stars. So it has been a couple of months since I went here so this review might be a little stale. The menu changes fairly consistently so whatever I may have liked very well may no longer be on the menu. And items that didn't leave much of a memory are probably gone anyhow. You get the drill. This isn't your first rodeo.
Apparently, this was my second one. Or at least it was a second date, and Andina isn't a terrible place to take one. The restaurant is rather grand in the inside, the Peruvian focus lends a touch of exotic without scaring off anyone's palate, and of course the quality of food is quite good.
We wanted something a bit light and veggie forward so we ordered a cauliflower dish that ended up soaked in a decadent sauce. Was it tasty? Yes. Was it light? Not so much. On the other hand, I was rather insistent on a mushroom seaweed soup which turned out to be exactly the type of light appetizer we were seeking.
On the mains, however, I ordered a seafood tomato soup that surely contained fresh and delicious shrimp and clams, but suffered from a rather pedestrian base. My date's chicken thighs, on the other hand, were quite delicious.
This probably sounds like a hit or miss three star review, but we did order dessert, and I don't know what it is about Portland, but damn, I've had some incredible desserts out here, and Andina was no slouch. We split a lovely tres leches that was soft, delicate, sweet, and modern all without losing the traditional flavors that have made it such a classic. There is nothing that was missing from this tres leches. It was absolutely outstanding.
Overall, this is definitely more of a higher end restaurant with decidedly romantic vibes, and is probably a great choice if you aren't trying to take your taste buds on a super exotic adventure and still want a quality dinner.
