I rarely write a review the same day I have an experience but I don't want to forget these good deets. I love Caribbean food and, coming from the NE corridor, transitioning to Houston's scene has been challenging. However, this was the best, overall, Caribbean plate I've had in Houston.
It sits in a commercial lot with other businesses and I was a bit confused about where to enter since all the windows are covered and you have to walk through a gate. Once inside I was a little surprised at the size of the place...definitely smaller than I imagined.
Anyhoo, the customer service was awesome. The gentleman who took me order was friendly and helpful. They have lots of options but I ended up ordering the jerk wing dinner that comes with rice & peas plantains and cabbage. I also got coco bread and one of their in-house made lemonades (Prickly Pear).
I didn't realize, until I got home, that the wings were jerk BBQ and not just jerk. Wouldn't have been my choice but that's my fault for not asking. I liked them far more than I thought I would. They were juicy, flavorful (although a bit salty) and the spice level was perfect. The cabbage was also delicious but I was disappointed at the small amount. It was really just a couple small spoons of it on top of the rice & peas. The rice & peas were yummy. I also realized I forgot to ask for gravy on them like I normally do but they didn't need any as they were moist and flavorful too. I'm not a huge fan of plantains so I'm not the person to reviews those. Also, the lemonade was too sweet for me but I can see how people would love it. Last but not least, I was super excited to finally have real coco bread in Houston. It was good!
Houston, we finally have a Caribbean food winner!
