NYU Langone Orthopedic Center

NYU Langone Orthopedic Center is by far one of the best healthcare facilities in North America, let alone NYC! Having to care for myself has become evermore important and challenging for me as I gaze into my senior years. Whilst being a patient with numerous co morbidities; resultant of an autoimmune disease, NYU Langone Orthopedic Center greatly improves my quality of life by means of the high bar of care the organization has set for itself. NYU Langone staffs some of the most talented physicians, nurses, and ancillary healthcare professionals in the business! Just like Allstate, I know that I’m in good hands with NYU Langone as my healthcare provider!

I sought physical therapy treatment at this facility for TMJ pain and was assigned to Hiroshi Kiyota, PT. My experience was extremely disappointing and ultimately unacceptable. He arrived late to every single appointment. Each session is scheduled for only 30 minutes—already far shorter than the standard at most physical therapy facilities. I live a considerable distance from their Orthopedic Center, and each visit required a three-hour round trip. Due to Mr. Kiyota’s repeated tardiness, additional time was lost walking from the waiting room to the treatment area before treatment even began, leaving me with approximately 20 minutes of actual care. This repeated behavior demonstrates a serious lack of professionalism, ethics, and respect for patients’ time, particularly for someone seeking treatment for ongoing pain and making a significant travel commitment. Despite still suffering from jaw pain, I discontinued treatment because the care provided was not worth the time, effort, or expense. I would not recommend this provider or facility to anyone who values punctuality, adequate treatment time, or professional standards of care.

I went today for an appointment with Dr. Jazrawi for a suspected torn achilles' tendon. NYU Langone was the first to call me back after I left messages for appointments with a few orthopedic practices, which was a good start, although probably more of a poor reflection on the other practices. The onboarding was super fast. I basically signed in and then within 2 minutes someone had come to get me . After the consultation, I was sent 2 floors up to get an x-ray and 2 seconds after I signed in, my name was called. I actually ignored it at first because there was no way it was me they were calling, given I'd just got there. The consultation was with Nurse Practitioner Elizabeth and then Dr Jazwari and both were fantastic and had a great 'bedside manner'. I'll have another consultation after a scheduled MRI - but the main emphasis on this review is how efficient the visit was. I was expecting to sit down and wait at least 30 minutes each in 2 or 3 different rooms but everything was just so on point. I've never understood why other practices can't get it right when it comes to respecting the patient's time but these guys have got it exactly right.

5 stars for the doctors and 0 stars for the incredibly rude front desk staff on the 5th floor. Honestly they assume you know the “rules” about checking in and making following up appointments and any questions about what to do or when to do it is met with harsh rebukes, like I’m making such an imposition for asking questions. The entire team seems to be trained in this disrespectful manner and it makes the experience so much harsher than it needs to be. You’re the first face we see, it sets the tone and it’s a rude beginning. Such a contrast from the kind physical therapists inside. I’ve been on other floors and not experienced this, it’s specific to the team on the 5th floor and they seem to treat everyone with equal distain here. Seems worse for younger patients, but I’ve seen them be cruel to older patients too.

Dr Bendo’s surgery was great but one of his NP’s, Samantha, does not understand the actions or side effects of certain medications so I advise not to deal with anyone other than Dr Bendo. Also the physician and hospital billing departments (actually more like a HS yearbook club) can not generate bills that are not denied, usually for math errors, so demand complete records.

I do my PT there. The therapist is amazing. Thank you Lacey. Facility is roomy with lots of natural light. and very well equipped. Do wish they had a water station, a place to put your personal belongings and a better system for future appointments scheduling.

I visited NYU Langone on 38th Street today for surgery on my left elbow. While the initial experience at reception was disappointing—the security/receptionist were quite rude and unenthusiastic—it would be beneficial for them to receive some customer service and empathy training, especially since patients coming in for surgery are often feeling nervous. That said, once I was in the surgery area, the experience was outstanding. The medical staff were incredibly friendly, thorough, and professional. They made sure my partner’s phone number was in the system so he could receive real-time updates, which he found extremely helpful in understanding each step of the process. Coming out of anesthesia can be a whirlwind of emotions, but the post-op team was incredibly supportive and caring. They called my partner immediately so he could be there for me—which he did, arriving with a box of chocolates! A small but thoughtful touch was the branded tote bag they provided, which was a nice and practical addition to the experience. For anyone looking for a skilled and successful surgeon, I highly recommend Dr. Youm. The level of care and expertise I received was top-notch, and I’m truly grateful for the medical team who made this experience as smooth as possible.

I went there for an X-ray and was helped at the front desk by Connie and Wendy. They were truly kind and attentive. The radiology technician—John, if I remember correctly—couldn't have been more professional and courteous. Everything went very smoothly. Thank you all for your attention and excellent service!

RIDICULOUS! Be on hold for 30 min to schedule ongoing appointment with regular provider ( bcz there are never appts available on the website) speak to some who says office will call you back, wait 2 hours and 25 min, receive a msg with no information simply asking to call back!!!! Restart process ad nauseum Don't even get me started about billing!! They take weeks whereas other PT offices take days, no one in any the offices understand the process or who is responsible for what, and no one is willing to provide any helpful info as to why they aren't sending your paperwork to the insurance company to be processed! Wait weeks to be seen again for bi-weekly physical therapy visits Too bad, bcz there is a great PT there or I would have taken my business elsewhere

I get that it's NYU, which is why they should do better! It was two months out from imaging and four months from my injury (torn meniscus) before I could even get an evaluation appointment. I had a great physical therapist, but could only get an appt with her SOMETIMES, like every third week. Other weeks, I had a fill-in who was not very good. I was dropped from the program b/c I couldn't get an appt for four weeks and then I was on a pre-planned out-of-town trip for two weeks. If you miss, cancel, don't have an appt, or no-show three times, your out. Second time I went (4 months later with a new Rx) I got juggled around by three different PTs, two of whom were clearly uninterested in helping me at all. Again, I get that it's NYC, it's NYU Langone, it's rough out there generally, but to have neglectful PTs? And there there is jockeying online or calling every Monday morning at 7a.m. to score a spot on the single day of the week I could attend PT (because, hello, I work, live paycheck-to-paycheck, and Rusk is the only place that take my insurance) is stressful and completely awful. The good PTs are great but others are unpleasant and even neglectful.

I feel as though the themes of my 2020 reviewing are twofold: 1. I'm old. 2. Everything is terrible. Well, in keeping with that, my body is breaking down. Despite not having played tennis in fifteen years or so, I have tennis elbow. Because I'm old. But everything at NYU's Orthopedic center is not terrible...I thought it was a pretty good experience for a medical facility. I'm sure your mileage may vary by provider, but my doctor referred me to Dr. Gonzalez-Lomas here, and everything went smoothly. I called in, and got an appointment the following day. Once I arrived, I was quickly directed to a waiting room, and I was getting my x-rays taken 30 seconds later. Afterward, I headed upstairs to meet with the doctor, and after confirming my birthdate, they handed me an iPad to enter some info, and I was ushered into my appointment a minute after I was done, on time. Dr. Gonzalez-Lomas was calm and knowledgable. He ran me through a few questions and examined my arm, and broke down my treatment options in terms of pros and cons, and I really appreciated his patience with my own questions. Hopefully my old and brokendown arm will just be old soon. In any case, this seems like a well-run facility. Everywhere I went in the building was clean, comfortable, sanitary, and socially distanced. There were minimal waits, and a nice nurse told me that I was skinny. The worst thing that happened was I couldn't understand the x-ray technician's accent, and tried to find a floor that didn't exist.

Was here several years ago to have care post a major arm surgery. The first person wasn't that good as they weren't able to find the area that was causing the wrist drop. Luckily they were out for whatever reason and the replacement for the week (Asian guy maybe in his 30s-40s or something) was able to find out the exact area to lightly tap against a few times and "bam," I got back some movement. After maybe a month more, I was fine. Waiting area there had a good amount of people and it was very clean.

I have had the most horrible experience at that facility, yesterday. 4 hours of waiting after being dismissed with NOTHING. I do NOT recommended

I waited one month for an evaluation appointment for a concussion and 15 minutes before my appointment I received a hurried voicemail that it was cancelled. Tried to call back, no one picked up. My co-pay was paid in advance, I got charged a fee from Uber and not even an apology on the voicemail. Whoever is scheduling the appointments is cold and rude. Not going back and would suggest to anyone who needs OT for a serious issue to go elsewhere.

Clean and nice Center. Nice to be a part of NYU Langone Health.

I've been struggling with terrible jaw, neck, and head issues for the past year. I'm so grateful for the past months I've spent with Nyu Langone physical therapy with Kate. (She is a saint) If you are having jaw pain, NYU @nyulangone has a specialized program to help treat head, neck and jaw issues which is tricky to find in NYC. I highly recommend having them help you if you are struggling. Plz check them out. I had so many doctors not believe me this year and she listened to me and helped me figured out what was happening. I will sing her praises for life. Thank you so much!

Horrible place. Was threatened by another patient while en route to my appointment. One of the PTs was very rude. This Place is a nightmare and hardly improved. The staff doesn't care at all. They just stand there like robots. Hiroshi was a PT there and he was particularly awful.

if you need physical or occupational therapy, this is not the place. the most horrific service you can possibly imagine. making an appointment is impossible. went to their office and found a waiting room with 5 secretaries. they do not make appointments. why? no explanation, but they can scan your prescription. told that now we have to call their department of physical therapy. wasnt this the department? "yes, but we do not make appointments, you must call". ok, we called, after 45 minutes on the phone someone answers to inform us that they do not make appointments and someone else will call us back. 3 hours later, someone called. she was beyond rude, informing us that the prescription for therapy is NOT in a system, so she cannot give us an appointment. basically, applying we were lying about going to their office earlier that day. she actually had a nerve to say she does not understand why we left without making an appointment. what??? since the office was opened for another 40 minutes, we offered to bring the prescription right away. she refused, 'we are already putting things away'. putting what away? shutting down your laptops? when we asked her name she just hang up the phone. called back 3 more times and after the longest waits, we were told 'that person' already left. when we wanted to know who 'that' person was, the other one hang up too. if anyone know how to contact the director of that facility, please share. meanwhile, we have 3 more outpatient rehab facilities recommended by a home visiting therapist.

Do Not be fooled by the beautiful space and new facility. They use so much technology that it is a burden to them. The staff has canceled appoitnments without contacting me. They did not offer an apology. Javiar on the fourth floor does not belong in customer service and his boss Nicholas Chee should have his credentials revoked for running such a cold, unresponsive staff. Some of the doctors are good and others (Laith Jazrawi) do not have any interest in what they see as mundane issues. He pressured me into a procedure to get me out of the office and his staff looked scared of him. That should have been my first clue. There seems to be no apparatus to report abuse or ineptitude. I am sure there must be.. but it is certainly not volunteered even when asked.
