"A favorite among bartenders, this watering hole is always brimming with interesting people and beckons casual conversation with its wraparound design. Don’t miss out on the kitchen specialties like the classic Reuben sandwich and the daily specials at its low-key happy hour, which keep guests in stitches from the wild stories that locals share." - Robert Dean

"Pull Up a Stool at O'Malley's O'Malley's is a local Galveston dive with drinks, pub fare, pool, darts, music and totally doable pricing. Look for a seven-foot water mark left behind by Hurricane Ike on the wall near the front entrance. Also look for pictures of pin-up models pasted to the wall toward the back of the bar, which weren't uncovered until post-Ike reconstruction. The owners suspect the ladies date back to the 1940s when a gambling pit thrived on the second floor. Photo via O'Malleys Stage Door Facebook page."

The dude running the bar here was super cool. That said, it is not a place for grub. We heard the microwave go off a few times. If you've had some drinks and need something to chow on, then go ahead - that's what it's for. $9.50 for a microwaved sandwich, so if you're up for that, cool. For an Irish establishment, there was not very much the Irish feel, but then, this is Galveston, TX, so also, if you're up for that, cool. Still, the guy was awesome and he was friendly enough for me to say I would drink there again after having a lot of drinks at home because at that point I would not care where I was or how expensive the microwaved sandwich was.

This is the oldest bar still operating in downtown Galveston. They opened in 1986. Tiffany took great care of us. It’s definitely a locals hang out. We stopped in on a late Saturday afternoon and everyone who walked in after us seemed to know each other. They were all very welcoming to us though. Prices are great. 4 drinks was $17 before tip (don't forget to tip your bartenders!). The decor is really fun. Witty sayings and fun dive bar stuff that makes it unique. They have a small room off the regular bar area with a jukebox, tables and dartboards. Highly recommend if you want a fun Irish experience with decorative flare. Will return.

Everytime I visit Galveston this is a place I always stop at. The bartender at this particular visit was really cool and attentive. The bar was dead but my significant other and I still had a good time. The history behind this building is very interesting. Check out the Galveston strand ghost tour.

Was charged $25 for a Guinness and a single, well whisky sprite. Was definitely a night for rude, overpriced service. It’s definitely been a gamble every time I go here if it’s worth it or not. Good luck.

Great sandwiches and awesome staff!

Visited here Saturday night as it was our last bar hopping spot of the night. And they did not disappoint! Great environment, music was good, bartender was very friendly. Didn't get to try the food, but that'll be on our next visit. The locals were friendly and welcoming as well. Enough room at the bar, had pool tables and restrooms were ok. Glad I found this little gem. Me and the hubs will be back to visit!

Google
A wonderful Ruben Sandwich! Had one back in October and have been dreaming about visiting again (12/2024). The dark rye bread, corned beef,…….all wonderful. And free parking if you park one block east. 😄

Yelp
Chose this place first and foremost because of the name...Irish, no?!! March 17, 2022 Came to celebrate St Patrick's day and they had no drinks for the occasion just green beer. Whoop! Place was crowded. Usually is on special occasions. They had a guy come in with bagpipes who played a few songs, that was cool. Had a hotdog that had mustard and sauerkraut (which I love) but, the only thing heated on it was the weiner, good but could have been better. Served w/chips or a pickle.

Yelp
I called O'Malleys to order an Italian Sub. No answer. Figure they were super busy. So I walked over and followed a man inside. The man sat at the bar and I did too. Then the Bartender looks at me while he makes the man a drink first. I'm in the hospitality business I figured the man was a regular. So I was ok with that. After he gave the man the drink he looked at me asked what did I want. Not can I help you or how your doing just blankly with a hint of why are you in my bar kinda look. I told him I wanted an Italian Sub, which I used to get when Jeff O'Malley owned the bar. After I ordered my sandwich he turned around and walked away to a closet across the room and flipped something off or on and walked back and asked me if I wanted chips. He then went behind the wall where they make the food and prepped my order and all I heard was the microwave beeping. When he gave me my order he mumbled the amount I ordered. I asked how much? It was so hard for him to talk to me, because he had to make a sandwich, which is his job! I Payed, walked out and went ACROSS the street where I WORK and told my fellow Emps about how rude and unwelcome he was. One person said they know him and he despises having to be the Sandwich boy. Anyways, back to the SUB. It was all microwaved, Not toasted. No Italian dressing. Just doughy chewy bread with cold cuts! They may have bought Jeff's O'Malleys Pub, but they will never compare to the O'Malleys Pub. Before whoever bought this place did not care to buy his signature O'Malleys menu because his sandwiches were to die for. His Bartenders were also the best, friendly. Now it's ran by a miserable bar person. Will never order there again. Don't waste your money On unprofessional people and unappetizing food.

Yelp
Went to O'mally's after the drum show next door, me (white) and my Colombian wife. Sat at the bar for several minutes and watched everyone else but us get served. While waiting the female bartender (3/18/23) with a very un crowded bar, started washing glasses in front of us and never asked us if we wanted anything. Waited a few more minutes then left and crossed the street to Molly's Pub. Warm welcome when we walked in. Served immediately. We will never go to O'mally's again. Sorry pos bartender.

Kelly M.

Yelp
Galveston has some of the rudest bartenders. Can't order a vodka martini with a lemon twist coz they don't have lemons. (Blink blink)

Jared G.

Yelp
I would love to give this legendary island hang out my business but as long as the guy bartender with a lip piercing works there, I will not feel comfortable being there, I've never received such rude service, do yourself a favor, if a guy bartender is working there, usually where's a hat, just head right back out and come back another night, I really wish I did

Adnan M.

Yelp
If the bartender is an obese dude with a beard, just walk out. Rude and lazy, was openly complaining about me ordering a Frito pie. Bro your bar is empty, what are you complaining about? Makes awkward conversations too. Other bartenders are cool and will treat you right.

Joe C.

Yelp
Smelly cause they allow smoking.. I can't stand it, but while I quickly swallows my beer I appreciated the staff, she was friendly and quick to serve.

Jenny S.

Yelp
Neat little local hang out that I was introduced to by my buddy Julian. They offer various sandwiches and have a full bar and also digital jukebox. It was lowkey when we came in Sunday afternoon which I like because only the locals were out. Jen was our waitress and bartender and she did a lovely job of making sure we were doing well. I ordered the BLT with jalapeno chips and my bf got the chili cheese dog. No frills type of place and plenty of tvs to watch the games. They have a back patio area where you can enjoy drinks or a smoke. I'd definitely come back another time to check out live music there.

Justin N.

Yelp
Love the staff! Penny and Jenn make you feel welcome and can make a really good cocktail, beers are always ice cold and fresh

John H.

Yelp
Awesome Ruben and bloody Mary's. You can't go wrong with a natural Five bar. Craft beer, good beer, liquor, good food, sports and golden tee. Pick the right door handle on the way out.

Randall G.

Yelp
Small classic dive bar, bartender was awesome. Smoking allowed which is a plus for me but not for everyone.

Howard C.

Yelp
Good luck getting service. I spent 20 minutes trying to get a drink. I just wanted a shiner but she ignored me. I went to IPC....much better. ......................yyy

Courtney M.

Yelp
Visited this bar for the first time during the pub crawl ....nothing crazy special here. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday afternoon. The prices were okay and the few patrons there seemed to be regulars

Stacey S.

Yelp
Cool little hole in the wall but super smokey. Didn't realize there were still bars with smoking. Didn't stay for that reason alone. Not kid friendly.

Deidra B.

Yelp
We stopped in recently with some friends I must say the service was very good. It's very dark and dank to me and the restrooms and the whole place is has built up dirt and grime. They need to close down for a week and scrub it down. They serve food and people smoke in there too. I wouldn't eat in here I can imagine the kitchen is as dirty as the rest of the place. It's a shame because our waitress was working really hard and was very service oriented. This bar is located right next to the opera house so they get business from that as well. Just clean it up!

Angela B.

Yelp
Local hang out. Always a cool place for a couple of drinks. Great jukebox. You can still smoke in the bar so if that's a issue you might want to go when the crowd is light. Get the White Witch!!!!

Denise C.

Yelp
This is a gem of a place. Had the French dip with homemade roast beef. Bartender was amazing and friendly! The best place to grab a cold beer and chat with some locals.

Alexandra F.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere and bartender has great personality. The people at the bar were friendly, fun and wanted to have a Great time!

Erica B.

Yelp
What can I say that no-one else has oh the BLT is the best! I get that or the Turkey Melt every time. Mitsy the bartender is awesome she is sweet yet feisty! LOve her! We always have our company meetings here as well. Kick back have a few and let loose thats what its all about.

Bruce J.

Yelp
Just another dive bar disguised as an Irish Pub. They need a good clean, you can tell by the beer lines haven't been cleaned in a bit. Good bartender though, good zibes inside. Friendly place, haven't tried the food yet, but everyone at the bar that was eating was saying good things

Sabrina M.

Yelp
This place is great! The sandwiches rock. The jukebox has a great selection of jams from Pantera to Beastie Boys to old country. The bar decor is something unique and eclectic which should be experienced first hand. The bartender was friendly, fast and knowledgable about local attractions.

Kayla C.

Yelp
O'Malley's Pub is definitely a local dive bar in Galveston. SO and I came in here to escape the downpour one day. The bartender was so incredibly nice, even giving us a bunch of hand towels to attempt to dry off. We ordered a couple of Guinness' while waiting out the storm. This is a bar that people can smoke in so it definitely has that smokey smell. I can see O'Malley's Pub is a place lots of locals go on the Strand.

Melinda D.

Yelp
O'malley's is a long time establishment on the island and I've been going here even before I was 21 (shhhhhhh). The bar looks about the same after Hurricane Ike flooded most of Galveston. I am glad it washed away some of the dirt and grime because you can tell the bar is a little bit cleaner than it used to be. :-) Sandwiches, chips, chili, beer and running into people I haven't seen in over ten years make this bar special. I wish they had a few more beers on tap, but the bottles make up for that. I'll be back for many years to come when I visit my hometown. Keep up the good work, O'malley's!

Lindsay K.

Yelp
A couple weeks ago we were on a mission to visit some of the coolest bars in the strand area. If it wasn't for a local showing us around, I don't know if we would have found this place right away and that would have been a shame! We got here toward the last quarter of the game and ordered a few drinks while we looked over the menu. They have a lot of sandwich options but what caught my eye was the Frito Pie. I had a weird craving for meaty chili and it did not disappoint. Our server was really nice and joked around with us. We got the bill and were pleasantly surprised at how cheap it was for the quality. We will be back again and I'm super excited for the food.

Bill G.

Yelp
Just stopped in to wet the whistle. Service was fine. Beer was cold. And we were on our way.

Vic C.

Yelp
Nice place. Best Frito pie I've ever had. Bartender very sweet. Right next door to the Grand 1894. The "Smoking: no" on the info is wrong, though. There were ashtrays on the bar and people smoking stinky cigars. Fortunately, something is wrong with my smeller at the moment, so it didn't bother me as much as it usually would. Either that or they had a very good ventilation system.

Meredith F.

Yelp
This is a really great place to stop for drinks and good food. The service is great and the menu options are definitely barfood, but it is good bar food. They have lots of seating in different parts of the bar so you can get the atmosphere you're looking for.

Autumn K.

Yelp
Love the old atmosphere here. Lunch was perfect proportions. No fries, but chips were nice and fresh. Got the Le French dip. Bread is amazing! Not too big ehete i left feeling miserable. Pricing is nice and affordable. Staff very Friendly snd Accommodating. The only down side. Smoking is allowed. .. it is a bar. Sunday afternoon though, so not too busy.

Waverly H.

Yelp
Love this place. No better place to go to watch nfl football on Sundays. Jen takes care of the customers. And they serve great sandwiches, too.

Geary J.

Yelp
If you find yourself tired and thirsty while shopping the Strand then this is your place! Cold beer, friendly staff, good pub food!

K T.

Yelp
While I love this place because it's always a stop on St Arnold's pub crawls, it is always smoky. Could be a crowd or just a few people. The smoky smell is here to stay. But we love taking our picture by the waterline sign from Ike 2008. (Not sure what that means? Take a trip over and see.)

Morgan M.

Yelp
The bar was full, we sat at a table, the bartender looked at us many times and didn't come over to take our drink orders. After 20 minutes of her just talking to her friends at the bar, and us being unserved, we left. And we won't be back, which sucks because if you give us good service, we will be good to you. Never going back.

Lauren W.

Yelp
They have the most AMAZING sandwiches! (Yes even when you're sober) I adore the comfort of this pub I always feel at home and the food always hits the spot!

Jesse H.

Yelp
Great home town pub. I spent many nights here when living on the Island. It's hard to beat the frito pie.

Hal R.

Yelp
Dive bar. Good sandwiches and wicked awesome frito pie. The bartenders know how to pour a drink too. Next to Rudy & Paco's and about 5 other bards on Postoffice street so it never hurts to stop in for one.

Cory C.

Yelp
Never have had a problem here. Pub Fare.. pool/darts.. music.. and totally doable pricing. Not to mention a decent selection of craft beer by the bottle and super friendly staff speedy to offer good service.

Ashlee K.

Yelp
I would to start off by saying that the one star rating us only because of the so called "bartender" Mitsy. I have been going to O'Malley's for about two years now, and my boyfriend has been going for at least 15 years. I love this place, cheap drinks, good bar food, and great prices... EXCEPT when Mitsy is there. She jacks the prices up if she doesn't like you. You may have had 3 beers, but your tab reflects that you have had 5 or 6. I asked Penny, another bartender, what the prices are for a bottled beer or well drink and Mitsy had to run over and answer a question that I didn't ask her. She barked "there isn't happy hour on Saturdays". No kidding?! I was well aware of this, but because it is an old school type bar without a drink menu or even an actual computer, I never knew the drink prices. Not to mention that it is your guests right to know how much a beer is or a well drink. That is kind of the law, just saying...anyways, I would always pay what the bartender on duty said that I owed. No questions asked, only because I trust every bartender here EXCEPT MITSY. I guess the beloved Mitsy did not like that I questioned her prices, so Mitsy snapped at me, and it wasn't the first time either. It wasn't even the first time that she snapped at me today! Last time that I checked, if you are in the service industry, which I am, your guests are your bread and butter and would never EVER be allowed to talk to anyone, especially a guest like that. Nope, not this place. She talks to customers over and over again like that. I have never seen someone be so incredibly disrespectful to anyone, let alone their guests!! If she ever worked in a restaurant or bar that I managed or owned... eh to put it nicely, she wouldn't last an entire shift without being thrown out for her negative and sassy attitude. Mitsy is not better than anybody, and it's about time that she learned that. Before this particular incident today that regarded my drink prices, I took a phone call outside and she had the nerve to scream at me and say "shut the damn door!". I wasn't even holding the door open. I was on the phone outside the front door when two of her friends walked in and the wind caught the door or something. She then pours her girlfriends two Tuaca bombs (I wouldn't be surprised in the least if she added their shots to our tab) and proceeded to yell at me to shut the door... That I didn't even open! I am the patron, if I want the door opened then I will open it. I told her to use her please and thank you's and she told my boyfriend and I to kiss her ass. I do not tolerate any form of disrespect from anyone, especially a "woman"' and I say "woman" because a classy woman would never treat anybody like that, especially guests. Mitsy also had the audacity to tell us to go annoy someone else! She is the only downfall of this bar. Jennifer, Penny, Chris, Jessica, and Isaac are fantastic and the most amazing thing about them is that they don't curse at you and tell you to kiss their ass. They also don't rip you off by charging you for drinks that you never even had and if they make you mixed drinks, these bartenders actually do the correct counts, or use a jigger. Again, Mitsy gives you the smallest amount of alcohol possible if she doesn't like you. I don't understand how she is still employed with the awful attitude she has. It has gotten so bad that if we plan on going there and think that she may be behind the bar, we will go somewhere else. We have put up with this disrespect way to long, and I refuse to anymore. I know most people are probably wondering why I gave O'Malley's so many chances, but the truth is that we love this hole in the wall. Besides the awful service from Mitsy, and I say 'service' very loosely, this place is great. It is sad to realize that you can not trust your local hangout for respect and honesty. We are still waiting to see if Mitsy wrote in her own tip... I ALWAYS tip no matter what especially because that's what I live off of, but when you yell at me and tell me to kiss you ass- sorry, you deserve NOTHING... Except maybe a cotillion lesson that focuses on manners. Everybody else almost makes up for Mitsy. The other bartenders are very friendly. They know your name and what you want to drink before you sit down. Jennifer is the best in regards to customer service and how she treats everybody, even if your a stranger in from out of town or if your a regular. It takes a lot to complain, but I can't take how Mitsy treats people anymore. It's just plain unacceptable. I am well aware of the fact that this is an wayyyyy over the top yelp review, but that is how angry the awful, and again I mean AWFUL, treatment that Mitsy gives her guests.

Liz G.

Yelp
After reading various reviews online, we walked on very sore feet from The Tremont Hotel seeking a decent sandwich and some imported beer. The reviews suggested that we'd encounter something like an Irish pub, but we opened the door, found one patron at the bar, and a couple playing pool in a thick cloud of cigarette smoke. The place was dark and dingy, and yellowed by smoke from days long gone. It may be fit for drinking, smoking and playing pool, but not for eating.
