We sat outside. The weather was wonderful. Nice and breezy with fans outdoors. We had the sea bass and shrimp and grits. Both were excellent. Our server, Jerrod, was busy but attentive. We would definitely come back.

Food is TOP! If you are going for food, then I highly recommend it. Experience-wise it was good but could be better in my opinion. The chairs were not comfortable. You could hear what other people were talking about. The food was awesome though. Fresh oysters are 10/10. Grilled fish had spices inside and it had such an interesting flavor, I loved it. If you thinking about ordering a dessert or not, DO IT. They have a caramel cheesecake from NY and it was so tasty l still remember the taste in my mouth. Fried oysters were good but not the rest of the food. I would not order them again if we came back. Paid $120 with tips included for 2 of us. Recommend!

Visiting Charleston from Northern VA, we were hunting for a local dinner spot & came across this place. While reading the menu, a gentleman walked out & said "eat here, it's great." I was sold & glad too, because he wasn't lying. We sat at the bar for happy hour & tried the James River oysters. The staff was friendly, laid back & kind. The whole restaurant had positive, warm vibes. The seafood was excellent. I paired it with a white wine based on our server's suggestion & it was just right. We struck up a conversation with the gentleman shucking oysters at the bar. He was such a sweetheart & offered tips on some of the best haunts in Charleston. The overall experience was stellar & I'm so grateful! Thanks guys!

Google
Most of our group got raw oysters on the half shell. We tried all the varieties that they had and they were all fresh and delicious. My wife had the fish tacos and she said they were great as well. We had excellent service while we were there and never had to flag our server down to get her attention. They have a fairly good beer selection as well.

The food was really great. Seared Tuna and crabcakes were amazing. We also got the Seafood trio, Steamed shrimp boil, Lobster ravioli. It was all fantastic. Jackson, our waiter was also incredible. I recommend this place big time!

Came here a year later and they still have great Happy Hour! They are located right near the market and in walking distance to many other places. Super solid options on their HH menu, I love their peel and eat shrimp so we got a boatload of them! Our first round of drinks came pretty quick and later we ordered a second round when we finished our food. It was about 15 mins and no drinks, so we asked our server to come over and cancel our drinks. She apologized and said she could see they were just finishing it up. (2 beers and 1 glass of sparkling wine) I understand that it was happy hour but we didn’t even order cocktails so that was a super long time for just 3 beverages. We ended up just taking them since they finally made it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We still got charged for all 3 drinks but at that point we were just ready to go. We still had a pretty good time but just some communication on those type of delays would be nice in the future.

Was not impressed with food! $4 per oyster for Oyster House is little bit too much. The ravioli were in such a no taste can souse, mussels were ok. Service was good! Honestly I didn’t get it why people were crazy about this place!

Google
Food was awesome! Recommend the shrimp roll, very fresh! Fried fish sandwich was good and crab steam bucket was excellent! Our server went out of his way to make our dining experience a 10! Ask for Corwin- he will take good care of you!

Yelp
I'm in Charleston for a conference and stepped out of the hotel for a walk down Market St and came upon the O Bar! As luck would have it, the have happy hour on Saturday until 6:00! I hand a local beer and an Old Fashioned... the OF was perfect! The St James River oysters are $1.25 during HR and they were tasty! I also had a 1/4 of shrimp. The bar staff was very attentive and engaging. If you in town, definitely stop by!

Yelp
Nice small bar with good happy hour specials on oysters. Service was excellent and food very good. Larger space with plenty of tables and close to market.

Yelp
Nice menu, food and cocktails. Informative staff. Had my first oyster tasting (in over 10years) it was Very good. Some patrons at the bar had a platter of freshly shucked oysters over ice and they were pleased. I had an adult iced tea and I def felt it on the way back to the hotel at 430pm - long day walking I had to lay down for a bit. Go on over and get Shucked !

Yelp
Who said you can't work and enjoy happy hour ‍ Great happy hour menu for seafood options. I sat at the bar while studying and enjoyed the dozen James River oysters and peel n eat shrimp. Plenty of seating available during this time, and bartenders were attentive and gives good service. There's plenty to do in this area so it's a good spot to pop in for happy hour then walk around during the night market.

Yelp
Yet another first for us while in Charleston back in July ( I know, I'm slacking on the review writing promptness) and it was a decent visit. I did think it was just OK maybe a 3.5 stars so I'm giving them a 4. We ordered several different varieties of oysters to kick it off and all that I sampled were pretty good and they seemed fresh. I ordered the Crab Cake sandwich which consisted of a pan roasted crab cake topped with remoulade, lettuce and bread and butter pickles with your choice of fries or slaw on the side of which I chose the slaw. I have to say that my meal was just OK. The crab cake was good and roasted well but I thought it lacked a bit in flavor. The slaw was not too my liking as it was heavy on the vinegar which maybe some enjoy but I don't. The service was good as well. Again, a decent visit was had but not necessarily gonna be on my "must visit" list when in Charleston.

Yelp
Boy oh boy this place! We went for happy hour and got the oysters and goat cheese salad and she crab. I think I was in heaven! The vibe is chill and we sat at the bar! Great happy hour!

Michele J.

Yelp
Happy hour is always a good deal with $1.25 oysters, but don't miss out taste testing some of the other varieties, usually around $3.75 each. The $5 taco is nice but needs a little bit more flavor. Service is attentive and pleasant. Location is convenient to the downtown sites. Coming back again for the local ambiance.

Yelp
Interesting seeing other reviews saying they weren't oyster people. That wasn't our experience at all, in fact I would place them as the place that had the best oyster selection. Our waiter was very familiar with the different varieties and recommended which ones were the best for the day. He didn't disappoint! My wife doesn't like oysters so she ordered the muscle appetizer, she really liked the broth they were cooked in but thought the cheese on top was an interesting choice. Had it not been for what we thought was the weird cheese I would probably go with a 5 star. (Perhaps they wanted more salt from cheese...who knows...to each their own!)

Yelp
Happy Hour Oyster, a perfect little find with great service and staff. A fun stop to get my oyster fix!

Yelp
Met some friends at O Bar at their request as I didn't realize the place existed. Great service and great food were had by all. We had oysters in the half shell, steamed shrimp, Mac and cheese and a few other appetizers. All were delicious!!' I'll be back!

Yelp
The food was tasty, fresh, good quality ingredients, flavorful. Shea crab soup was simply delicious and delicious, oysters were great, however the fried seafood combos were good, but not anything special. Sat at the bar and service wasn't bad.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try the O Bar for a couple of weeks and finally got a chance to dine in. It was an off time between lunch and dinner times so the restaurant was very quiet except for a few tables and a few patrons at the bar. I liked the layout of OBAR, a narrow interior with small amount of tables spaced nicely on one side and the large bar area running almost the length of the room was on the other side. I am always on the lookout for a refreshing beet salad and ordered it here with an addition of grilled salmon. The citrus vinaigrette went wonderfully with this salad as well. The seafood and oysters were fresh and while you are always taking a chance with how the salmon is grilled, this time it was done perfectly! Will return to the O Bar which is part of the Charleston Crabhouse family with locations downtown, on James Island and in Mt Pleasant.

Yelp
I like this place. I have just moved to Charleston and seemed to find myself here on 3 different occasions. I am indeed a bar person so I found a place to sit at the end of the bar, and the waitress remembered me from last time. Major points. Every time the guys shucking the oysters have been friendly and ready to chat while opening those little pieces of greatness from the sea. More points! Happy hour $1 oysters have been the James River, not the things from the gulf, which still have that nice oily aftertaste from Deepwater Horizon. They do have other oysters from Mass, SC, and Canada. Do not neglect to order the hushpuppies that come with a wonderful brown-sugar-pecan- butter! I always seem to find a good little place anywhere I live that is my go to place AND I am welcome while wearing shorts and flip-flops! This is probably going to be my place.

Yelp
GERLAD !!!!!!! The name is all I need to say!!! Amazing service, and his knowledge of everything was out of this world! NEVER in my life have I tired oysters but he made this experience out of this world! From the customer service to everything in between !! All I can say is, TRY IT FOR YOURSELF !!!! And make sure you ask for Gerald!!! Five stars

Yelp
Happy Hour Review! For $1 oysters from 4-7pm, this place freakin rocks! Advice: have your fill of expensive oysters and then ditch your highbrow pretentious friends and come here to get your fix. Also, a little discount is offered when paying in cash vs credit card. What I've had: $1 Raw House Oysters $3 Budweiser $8 1/4-lbs Peel-and-Eat Shrimp She-Crab Soup at regular price $1 House oysters were fresh and had a little sand in it, no biggie! I'm getting what I paid for! $8 1/4-pound Peel-&-Eat Shrimp is de-veined and fresh! What a deal! In comparison Amen's down the street has $17 for 1/2-lbs and it's not de-veined. $3 Happy hour beer list is pretty standard low-brow/college kid stuff like bud light, miller lite, and Budweiser being the only non-light beer. but it's great stuff for what you're paying! She-Crab soup is awesome! As a New Yorker, I thought New England Clam Chowder is the benchmark of seafood soup goodness.... Oh boy am I glad to be wrong! get this! pay full price! love it!

Yelp
Okay selection of oysters but not really extensive. Not a very exciting vibe of the restaurant and small cocktail list. We only had oysters which were of decent quality (a really small and a mangled oysters on the half shell that shouldn't have been served) but they did taste great. Friendly and fast service though. Really just wasn't where I would typically eat but it depends on what you want.

Scott B.

Yelp
Great oysters they will shuck in front of you. Drink service got a little slow once the place filled up. Excellent ambiance!

Yelp
Awesome oysters. Great guys behind the oyster shucking; very friendly and informative. However, pug (idk his name they had yell it a few times) not that great of a server.

Mandi K.

Yelp
Fantastic! We're back in town for our wedding, and after driving for 11 hours we decided to just walk across the street from our hotel, the Spectator, for dinner. Nice and casual, as we needed this evening. Fast service, great food, but the best parts were a replacement order of steamed oysters because Greg, the shucking master at the raw bar, was not satisfied with the way they came out, before we even noticed. He also gave me a tiny pearl he found while shucking. Super cool place and exactly what we needed this evening.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere and very friendly and attentive staff. We got a dozen oysters on the half shell to share and a few local beers. Everything was very good! I especially like this place because it is one street back from busy East Bay, so it feels more off the beaten path. If you're looking for good oysters and good vibes give this place a shot!

Yelp
Happy hour oysters and Holy City Cheese Fries, like crack for your belly!!! What else do you need to know

Yelp
Nice place. We are not oyster people but they have other great options. Our dinner was delicious. Highly recommend! We both had the Low Country Shrimp Boil.

Amy L.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour and got the James River $1 oysters and fish and shrimp tacos. Sat at the bar and was served quickly. Got two dozen oysters, super fresh, and would highly recommend. Tasted amazing! The shrimp and fish tacos: one taco shell each. Shrimp tacos tasted good, but too much sauce on the taco, broke before I got to eat. Fish tacos: fried fish, decent. Didn't eat anything else, just wanted to come here for the happy hour oysters! Love it! Would highly recommend!

Jody A.

Yelp
First time here, service was very good. The ambience was nice. The food was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Maybe just a bad day, but service was not good; bartender very dismissive while we waited for table. Ended up leaving for another restaurant. Atmosphere was not good

Yelp
Highly recommend this restaurant! Loved our waiter! The shrimp and grits were very good! My friends enjoyed their meals too! Trio fish and oysters!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely! Drinks were on point, oysters were on point. In a fun part of the town. You like oysters, come here. And definitely some other places to go to after your oyster fix! Don't walk by

Yelp
We had over-romanticized this place since we ate there directly after getting married. The memory was way above the reality. Service was spotty-- waitress ordered me shrimp after I expressly told her I was allergic, so. . . Oysters (fried) were average, crispy Brussels were good but not great, grouper was decent, seafood pasta was disappointing-- light on seafood and overloaded with capers.

Samantha A.

Yelp
Wait time much reduced here. Carriage driver recommended it. Happy hour on weekends. Quieter ambiance. Oysters fresh and excellent. Service was very good. The seafood trio came with very sweet tomato rice, but the scallops and shrimp were excellent. Partner got the seafood pasta perfectly seasoned-watch your clothing bc the oil and wine can get you, but it was so good, you'll still go back!
google avatar

Candace B.

Yelp
Happy hour was awesome here! Greg and Kyle at the oyster bar were great to chat with, best shuckers we know! Bartenders were all great!

Frances B.

Yelp
Amazing place!! The oysters are fantastic as are the other items. Great selection of drinks, too. Great service and a nice bar to sit at also tables. Was not as noisy and crowded as other places, a hidden gem!! If you love oysters a definite must to visit!!
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and loved it. We had a variety of oysters, she crab soup and chilled shrimp salad roll. Everything was fantastic and super fresh. Best she crab soup I have had in a very long time. I would definitely come back here if I'm in Charleston again.

Yelp
Very fresh oysters and a nice selection! A great place to cool off and enjoy an adult beverage! Service was friendly and quick! Atmosphere fits in with historical Charleston!

Sarah G.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere, waiter and food. Shrimp and grits, low country boil and fried seafood are the best And oysters of course!

W S.

Yelp
Very good experience. Good selection of delicious oysters. Fresh seafood. The GRITS! Yum! Service from Joey was attentive, knowledgeable and high quality. Highly recommended
