Yelp
The Oak at the Glen is situated among many other stores and restaurants in the Glen Tower Center in Glenview, IL. I stopped in there for lunch with customers recently, and even though nothing really stood out, nothing was really wrong with it either. The menu featured pretty basic, contemporary American food along with a nice selection of Bourbons and a full bar. The inside space was contemporary, but inviting, and our service was decent considering there was one server taking care of up to 10 tables. We started out with the Totchos - which was like a loaded tater tot appetizer, and it was good, but not great. I think the issue was that there were too many strong flavors competing for dominance.. the bacon and ale cheese sauce would've been enough, but then you add pico de Gallo, grilled jalapeños, Parmesan cheese and chipotle aioli and it all gets to be too much. We also ordered spiral Oak Creole Fried Pickles, and they were really good. The presentation was really cool as they were on a stick, spiral cut, breaded and fried. They were really crispy and served with ranch dressing. I ordered the Patty Melt - which was on special that day, and again, it was good. Didn't rock my world, but it was as expected. However, the house cut fries that came with it were really good, and I almost wish I could've had those for an appetizer! One of my customers had the Louisville Hot Brown Sandwich and the other went with the Oak Branded Burger. Both of them seemed pretty satisfied with their meals. Now, the pricing was a bit steep for this type of restaurant, but given its location, it was comparable with surrounding establishments. I'm just not sure the Oak at the Glen does enough to guarantee it's longevity with so many other dining options available in such a small geographical area... especially with the Yardhouse being a block away - and being a similar, but more established restaurant. That being written, the food and service were both decent, and if I were in the area, I might give it another shot - especially for dinner.
