Best Breweries in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"Oak Highlands christened its new space, right next to Lockwood Distilling, on May 31. On a recent visit, friend groups, parents and their kids, and a few friendly canines all milled about. The adults drank German lagers, a bright and refreshing kolsch, and heady west coast IPAs, and everyone — even one lucky dog — sampled brisket and pulled pork tacos from Brix Barbecue, the Fort Worth barbecue joint that’s now parking its truck at the brewery." - Courtney E. Opened in a new location it's an award winning craft beer brewery with a family and dog friendly atmosphere. Offering a variety of entertainment they have live music on the weekends, a digital jutebox, a pool table, shuffleboard , pinball machine, video game and a toy claw machine. They also have triva and other events. The owners and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of their beverage products. They have Souvenir T-shirt's, hats, koozie's and beer glasses for sale. They don't serve food inside but there's a Brix's Barbecue food truck in the parking lot. There's plenty of parking and has handicap parking and accessible.

This place was super cool! Came as a vendor for a market, but will definitely be back. Very dog friendly, so got to pet a lot of dogs. Also loved that the bathroom floor is covered in pennies and that they have a quirky “pay it forward” system for anyone from plumbers to Dungeon Masters.

Google
Max was an excellent bartender! Max helped educated me on the new beers, food truck, and informative on which beers to tryout. I tried the Peach Bellini, Locktoberfest, DF Dub (German style), and Derelict (American IPA) which were an excellent decision. The experience was outstanding and I cant wait to come back! The food truck served BBQ and I tried the Brisket and Dank emote which was Fantastic. I highly recommend to try out!

I hosted my husband’s 40th birthday party at OHB. It was the perfect place for our group! All the games kept the kids busy— shuffle board, ping pong, basketball, corn hole, connect four, chalkboard wall. The projector and sound system added a nice personal touch for my slideshow and playlist. We used one of their BBQ caterer recommendations, the beer and wine and bartender were great, and everyone had a great time! Ryan was very friendly and easy to work with. Would definitely host another party there and recommend to all my friends.

We had a great experience with the staff. It is a great location and space to host an event.

Google
Tucked away but easy to find brewery. The staff is friendly. I came at a non-busy time. They had some fun options I don't normally see on sale elsewhere. If you're feeling creative you can blend your beers, which is fun. For those who are only familiar with a beer or two from here, this brewery has so much more to offer, so you should visit.

What a fun place to hang out at and I can’t wait I go back. I went with my wife and cousin to hang out on Saturday. The bartender was awesome and recommended all sorts of fun beers. They had a cool pop up Puerto Rico food as well which was super fun and delicious. We went with the flights and it was yummy.

Google
OHB was absolutely perfect for my husband’s 50th birthday party! We had 100 people (and 3 dogs!) join us and there was still plenty of room. The staff was extremely accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed from catering options to tables & chairs. Our adult guests enjoyed themselves and the several kiddos told us it was “the best birthday party ever.” We agree…it was epic. Fabulous beer (and hard seltzer!), awesome facility and incredible service; can’t ask for anything more. ♥️

Yelp
We were looking forward to checking out Oak Highlands new location in Richardson. We came by on a Saturday afternoon and found a great vibe with a mix of all ages with some willing to enjoy the outside seating with the majority of us inside. They offer counter service and once you get your tab set, you can order at your seat with QR codes and they will bring your beverages to your table. My husband and I both started off with the Mas Major - a Mexican style lager. We liked the crisp flavor of the beer. My husband followed up with a Locktoberfest - a Marzen aged in bourbon barrels. It had a unique but good finish with the aging in the barrel. We happened to be at the brewery when they had a blues band playing. That was a great way to enjoy our beverages and afternoon. We look forward to future visits!

Yelp
Oak Highlights Brewery has relocated to 500 Lockwood Drive in Richardson. They have a permanent food truck on site, Brix Barbeque. They continue to offer the same activities that made their original location popular including weekly bingo, live music, and meat raffles. Service is friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Beers were delicious, service was excellent. Provided good recommendations. The ambiance exceeded expectations. The band was good, good mix of people. I will definitely be back with friends. I love that it's dog friendly.

Sarah H.

Yelp
Came to the new location to check it out and had a great experience! I know a good amount about beers but they did a great job at explaining, offering samples and helping me with some good choices. Then they continued to go above and beyond to make sure everything was great. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Nice spot. The beer choices were not necessarily my style but the ones I tried were very solid all round. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was great. Spacious indoor area with lots of TVs, pets welcome inside the taproom. Decent sized uncovered patio. Great spot worth coming back to.

Yelp
Beautiful space for a Brewery and Taproom. Nice deck outside, very comfortable space. My 1st time here to OHB, attending Beef and Beer Dinner. 4 Courses of nice Dry Aged Sliders and sides all paired with OHB Beers. Really enjoyed my time and the great folks I had the pleasure to meet. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great beer and great low key atmosphere hidden in a business complex ! Took too long to know it was there! A must try

Yelp
I started a review when I first went here. I had a good time then. I recall food being limited bar fare and (occasional?) BBQ out front at the time. Service was pretty good, given numbers being served. It is inside a brewery, so sound insulation wasn't really a big consideration but did maintain a fun atmosphere. A lot has changed since I first went here in.... Idk, it was 2018 or before. There was a point where it became apparent I wasn't necessarily their target demographic. I stopped going then, though this is especially true now that I don't even drink. Buy Local!

Yelp
My wife and I were visiting Dallas for four nights. We came here on Thursday night and had burgers and a few beers. The burgers were great and the beers Were incredible. There was free bingo and we stayed for that. We didn't win anything so we were invited back to judge a brisket cook off on Saturday night. Now we have some great barbecue in Idaho, but this is Texas. I came back and judged the brisket, which was phenomenal. My wife had burgers again, and we got to have beers again. The staff is so friendly, and people were so nice that I felt at home. Thank you for a great time, and if you are here in Dallas stop by this place it's incredible. Next time we come here we are going back. Thank you so much.

Yelp
Fantastic place for a cold beer. The brewery has plenty of options to choose from (15+). The "Freaky Deaky" was tasty. The tap room is spacious. They have plenty of seating and have board games and giant connect 4 to keep kids or adults entertained. The staff is friendly and have great recommendations for their products. On the weekends, you may find a local vendor smoking BBQ. Delicious!

Yelp
I had my doubts as I was driving in - what good thing can be tucked into a half-empty industrial park? Oak Highlands Brewery, that's what. Friends convinced me to join them for a late afternoon of beer and board games. Fun times and the space is perfect for it, to be honest. There are a variety of choices on tap and they are happy to let you sample before you select. I didn't ask about flights. You can pay as you go or run a tab. I went with the Double Derelick IPA - nice and hoppy. Perfect for a hot summer afternoon and a competitive round of Trivial Pursuit.

Yelp
Visited on a Sunday afternoon and had a few beer and a burger. The beers all tasted great and had a great variety. My favorite was the DF Dub but the Freeky Deeky was good too. This place was surprisingly spacey and the outdoor area was decent for an industrial area. It is so close to home so I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Great beer! Try the freshman 15. We were going to try the brisket, but they seemed to wander off for quite awhile. Regardless, awesome selection.

Yelp
I've had this brewery bookmarked for years and I'm surprised it doesn't have more reviews. It's a classic old skool brewery. I think they have expanded since opening and have more of a taproom now but they still have plenty of seating on the brewery floor. The beers selection is good, however it was about $7 a pint. Stickers are free and available in the plenty !! - which I always love. The day we came they had Fletcher's Corny Dogs outside - which were amazing!!

Steve C.

Yelp
Love this place! They have a lot of options, so if you don't like one style (I am not a fan of IPSs) there is something else you would enjoy. I have been to every brewery in the Dallas area (literally EVERY brewery; I have a spreadsheet if you don't believe me) and this is in my top three favorites. Staff, especially Steve the bartender, are outstanding. Freaky Deaky, Jala-Bueno, and Freshman 15 are among my favorites. Don't let the industrial vibe turn you off.

Yelp
Fun brewery with the nicest people. They usually have good food on site, a great variety of beer and it is pet friendly. Check out their website for all their upcoming events.

Yelp
I went with friends for their Mardi Gras party. They had a line band, dogs galore for a pooch parade and mud bugs. Oh and I tried three of their brews. All had great flavor and good level of alcohol. We had a blast with the bar hopping for the party.

Yelp
The beer here was excellent, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. I really enjoyed the merch, great shirt.

Yelp
A hidden gem close to home. OHB has some awesome beers at some great prices. Their staff is friendly and helpful. We have brought some friends that are new to the craft scene and their were very patient with them and explained their different beers. They also provided samples to them to help them with their decision making. Their place is spacious and allow outside food on the premises. At times, they have food trucks available for the customers convenience. They have plenty of sitting areas that accommodate large groups. Also, they have plenty of fun games and activities scattered throughout their place that encourage family fun.

Tina B.

Yelp
The bar tender was amazing. He was very helpful helping us decide what type of beer to buy and even mixed 2 together to suit my likes. They also let you taste beer before you buy.

Yelp
I grew up in Lake Highlands, which is a hop, skip, and a jump away from Oak Highlands Brewery in Garland. And it's a great brewery. In an unassuming building near the post office, this brewery has it all - great beer, lots of seating, TVs for watching the game, and games (including air hockey). During a day of running pre-holiday errands, my dad, brother, little sister, and I stopped at Oak Highlands for a beer for the adults. My dad and I shared a flight so we could try a few more of the beers, and we were impressed by the range of beers available. They had a Kolsch, IPA, Dunkelweizen, Belgian Tripel, Dortmunder, vanilla porter, and more... Definitely something to please everyone! We all fell in love with a little English bulldog (dogs are allowed inside) that is either a regular or an employee's dog. All in all, it was a great way to spend a couple of hours!

Kim K.

Yelp
Love this place and the beer and the servers and all the extras like food trucks and events (like the lake highlands basketball championship showing)!! The only thing I would say is that since they started serving wine (and I drink beer) the wine pours I noticed are really skimpy and some people have made comments. I don't think it it would hurt overhead costs to pour a little more. Other than that, really good.

Yelp
A cool space with very friendly staff. We had a great experience here and will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Grat place for a cold beer after work. Free popcorn This is a family friendly place with games to entrainment for all ages

Yelp
Great service - very friendly, great beer, great environment. What more can you ask for?? Worth trying out.

Yelp
When I tell you my routine is home, work, school, church and repeat you'll know for sure after this post. @oakhighlandsbrewery is almost in walking distance from my house. It's almost sad that I never@knew anything about it. Thanks to @mictar and #dfwbeerstagramers I had the pleasure of enjoying several great beers. This right here was ##18 Barrel aged Vanilla Porter with tart cherries. Anytime I see a porter or stout I respectfully decline but I had a taste. Mmmm, this is amazing. I ordered one. It's 8.3 %abv and aged in Witherspoon barrels with tart cherries. So smooth and flavorful. Beyond any expectations I could have imagined and now I will be open to sampling but this is OHB is standard now. Get on that level. Never deny yourself a new sip. It's small on the outside but there's lots of room. We were in the main area but they also had a side area as well as an area for parties. It's dog friendly as well as kid friendly. They had a designated area for kids to play and activities. I'll be back for their movie night. They have everything covered to keep you happy as soon as you walk #craftbeer #dallascraftbeer #undeniablevixen #bigtexasbeerfest #beerstagrammers #vanillaporter #tartcherries #texascraftbeer

Yelp
I finally got to go and was not disappointed. The atmosphere has a blue-collar feel to it, nothing fancy, which made it perfect for me. I'm an IPA guy and loved the Derelick. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Yelp
This is the first brewery I have ever been too so I was pretty excited to see what the One Year Anniversary was going to be about. Well let me say this place did not disappoint! For $25.00 dollars we got two pint glassed shaped like a beer can and we got to sample five different beers. This place is located in an industrial area so don't be surprise when you get there. Oak Highlands is HUGE one side has high tops all around, a bar and a few TVs around the room. The next area is the actually brewery where they had corn hole, air hokey, ping pong, a foosball table and a video game system. We pretty much stayed beyond the event so we got to listen to some great music and met some pretty awesome people. Everyone that worked there was very friendly and for the brewery to be so big it gave me the family vibe. There were a couple of food trucks that were outside throughout the day but we only ate at the Barbeque truck. We ordered the brisket, sausage plate and the dino bone plate. The dino bone was pretty popular and we ended up getting the last one. The brisket was very moist, with the bbq sauce, potato salad and white bread it gave me life!! I think I swallowed my food so all I can say it was pretty dang good. I am not a big beer fan but I have been on a quest to be more open to different beers besides your typical Michelob Ultras. So, I tried 4 different beers while I was at Oak Highlands. Allgood Beer- This is an ale and is more on the lighter side. The Allgood goes down easy with no bitter aftertaste. Freaky Deaky Beer- Umm the name says it all...This has 10% alcohol, it is also an ale. I thought it had a sweet taste to it, which is good for a newbie like me. Just make sure you eat before you drink this!! Guavegood Beer- This was so good I had to have it twice. The Guavegood would be my favorite beer of the night, the taste of this beer was just good to me. I believe the guy said this was seasonal so try to get it while supplies last. Raspberry Wheat Sour Beer- I did not like this one, it was too bitter for me. But if you like bitter beers I say go for it. Overall this place Freakin' Rocks and they definitely know how to party!!

Yelp
I'm not a big beer drinker, but Hubby is, and we spent a lovely Saturday afternoon at Oak Highlands. First of all, I LOVE that it is indoors and dog friendly! Pretty much makes it the only brewery to come to in the summer IMO. Overall, the atmosphere is nice-open and not crowded, with a separate room with games. Hubby did the tour and thought it was interesting (he used to home brew). I tried the Golden Mustache and Guava Good. Both were good and refreshing; the Guava Good smelled more like guava than tasted like it though. Hubby tried the Derelict and Golden Mustache; he liked both, but the Mustache better, which he says tasted more like an ale than a lager (I don't know what he means, but some of you might). There was a BBQ truck outside with decent food. There was also a woman singing folksy live music. She wasn't bad, but truthfully I preferred the music they played when she wasn't singing (90's era rock and alternative). Again, great way to spend an afternoon and I suspect we will return.
google avatar

Caitlyn M.

Yelp
Good beers, although I'm more of an IPA person and they don't have a ton of varieties of those right now. I got more of a family, neighborhood vibe from OHB, which is lovely for those nearby, but if I was looking for more young adults after work, then I'd probably go closer to the central/downtown breweries.
google avatar

Karen K.

Yelp
Love this place! Best place for familys to go and enjoy a night. My husband loves going to breweries. The kids and I not always. Once in a while you find a jem. Thought we lost out on a family brewery when firewheel went out, but lo and behold my hubby found OHB! Had an awesome time at the holiday family night with my kids getting an extra chance to see Santa! Plus they even had a those old holiday movies playing for the kids and crafts! They had sodas too. A real treat. I'm not that into beer but go for my hubby. So having something else their is SUCH a plus! Go and meet other families who like to share a drink and let the kids play together :0)
google avatar

Caterina P.

Yelp
It's just such a nice casual atmosphere and I love that its dog friendly inside as well so we don't have to be outside in summer heat wave
google avatar

Neal N.

Yelp
Another brewery with a nice selection and friendly bartender. Almost all the beers here I wanted to try. One of their limited beers was Chump Change - an imperial black saison - which was delicious. They also had a dunkel. Apparently there were also cornhole sets somewhere, but I wasn't able to play. God knows how much time I would have been occupied on that alone. Not to mention a big Jenga set. Overall, a relatively fun place with a good beer selection - somewhere around 8-10 beers if I'm not mistaken.
google avatar

Martin K.

Yelp
Came back with the whole family. Live music, fun games for everyone and some more good beers. The Oktoberfest is one of the best in the area and their Vanilla Porter rivals that from Breckenridge, which has been my favorite so far. Definitely a great new addition to the Dallas beer scene.
google avatar

Randall R.

Yelp
Over a couple of visits, I've been impressed with their selection that goes beyond heavy malts and nuclear IPAs. It's a good variety with a few of my favorites, like the English Special Bitter. As atmosphere goes, Oak Highlands follows closely to the standard formula - a brewery, a bar out front, friendly pourers, and whatever version of chex mix type snack seems right for today. My only complaint was a generally loud noise volume. I realize the acoustics aren't great in many of these places, but on my last visit a band was practicing across the wall. I heard they had a private party scheduled in the actual brewery, so this was either band practice or a 45 minute sound check. Don't get me wrong, I like bands and parties, but I also like to be able to hear some of what my tablemates are saying. Food trucks often show up, and let me offer a suggestion about that. If they would put up a food truck schedule on the website, it would bring me in a couple of times a month instead of a couple of times a year.
google avatar

Sabrina D.

Yelp
Awesome chill brewery with good brews! Dallas isn't lacking in breweries, but if you are looking for a place with plenty of tables, non-pretentious ppl and cool brews, OHB is your place! Also: BBQ food truck every Saturday! Great BBQ, hearty portions, $10 plates and nice owner!
google avatar

Wayne W.

Yelp
Beer was Good and the BBQ was Fantastic. It's not part of the Brewery, Guy sells out of the Back of his truck but some of the BEST Potato Salad I've ever eaten. It would get a better rating from me if the Reception wasn't so chilly from the Guy behind the Bar but thinking that may have to do with the fact that he knows quite a few "regulars" there. They got a very welcomed reception with a smile. I get it as I get the same welcoming reception at a local establishment in Allen where I'm a "regular". My wife really enjoyed the place so we will probably return again another time especially if they have LIVE Music or other Special Events.
google avatar

Nicolas O.

Yelp
Great bunch of guys serving fantastic local beers: - The All Good Kolsch - Freaky Deaky - Belgian Trippel - Golden Mustache - Dortmunder Lager - DF Dub - Dunkelweiss Ale - Derelict IPA Theirs a massive Texas mural in the taproom along w/ a 120 inch projector. While enjoying some mead, you can play darts, board games, corn hole, jenga while listening to live music. Food trucks are a common staple. Good vibes, great beer, definitely worth checking out and we will be back.

Gretchen H.

Yelp
I did not like the taste of their beer! I thought it was awful beer and will not be going back and the management was rude!
google avatar

Julie P.

Yelp
This place is great! Just went to a holiday party there and the atmosphere was awesome! Their beers have great names .. Eric was behind the bar serving and was utterly entertaining! There were lots of families there .. lots of things for kids to do! People even brought their dogs! So fun!
google avatar

Jana B.

Yelp
Cool brewery with lots of different beers! They have a very large party room that is inside with games, ping pong, corn hole etc. When the weather is nice the large door is open so the inside gets a nice breeze. Dog friendly as well!
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
Love this place! It's the best place to relax on the weekends. Wish they had guava good all year long!
google avatar

Casey G.

Yelp
Nice little brewery with big beer selections. I love how they have a large selection of IPAs most brewery's try to limit to one. This will be my 3rd time here and I've noticed there's more parents with children at this brewery then the others so I would say definitely kid friendly. Great part is 4 min from Lakewood brewery so you can check out both on the same day. I didn't see any tours on Saturday morning so maybe it's special events only.

Kitty S.

Yelp
We've been here for a few events and concerts and love this place. Beer is great and it's as family-friendly as a brewery can be.
google avatar

Rus W.

Yelp
A couple of outstanding beers. The rest are meh. Tap room is super cool, but the hours are short. Hidden in an industrial park. Food not always available. Staff friendly-ish. Freaky Deaky is my favorite Trippel right now. Aged in white wine barrels is freakin awesome. Other beers not bad, but nothing else worth a special trip.
google avatar

Patrick K.

Yelp
So many great things to say about OHB - great beer, great staff and a great location. A recent family night proved that these guys can pull a very solid crowd. Tokens are purchased at the door for $5 Each (non Saturday) to redeem for a beer. My favorites continue to be the DF Dub and Allgood, the latter being a crisp saison. Saturdays (at least one I visited) offers up three tokens and a pint glass (to keep) for $15. Check the OHB website for updated offers and other specials (live music and food trucks are common). They are doing it right!
google avatar

Seth P.

Yelp
Love this place. Just had the dark saison at heritage pizza. Fantastic beer! I'll be drinking more from them.

Lisa A.

Yelp
Such a great place to grab a beer, visit with friends and support a neighborhood business!
