"Ready for a whirlwind world tour? Marcelo Ballardin’s Italian-Brazilian roots, his globetrotting past and the international cast of the kitchen team are core to the DNA of this eatery. North Sea clams, Asian flavours or wild manioc roots from the Amazon Forest: the menu has clearly been extremely carefully designed and meticulously crafted. Chef Ballardin aims for simplicity, whilst accepting that this goal may entail a certain degree of complexity. He seeks a subtle balance between crisp acidity and velvety comfort. For example, he enhances quickly seared langoustines in a frothy, powerful sauce crafted from the heads and shells, together with a personal version of chimichurri, made from fregola and mandarins. The delicacy with which each ingredient is underscored bears witness to his creative streak. OAK is happily ensconced in the heart of historic Gent, in a 17C edifice whose elegance is set off by works of art and contemporary decorative fixtures and fittings. A modern culinary approach that aims to provide an “unforgettable experience”." - Michelin Inspector

This is a pretty building with a secluded dining environment. The overall pairing of the dishes is refreshing and harmonious, with natural seasoning. I can feel the subtle nuances of flavors from different ingredients. Another point worth mentioning is that the taste of the main ingredients in each dish has been greatly preserved, indicating that the cooking heat is just right. What caught my attention was the main dish's pigeon meat. I really like the taste brought out by this dish, which is very different from other pigeon dishes I have tried. Plus recommend for their wine paring, quite clever.

Excellent place to spend a great evening. Upon entering the restaurant the whole kitchen and staff greets you and welcomes you very warmly into this lovely place. The starters arrive very fast so you can start discovering the meticulously hand made food creations right away. I would recommend to take the pairing wines with the main courses to fully enjoy the experience. They come with a great explanation from the sommelier and some are only available there on the spot and nowhere else. We've enjoyed the whole evening and the desserts were simply amazing! The coffee table which is in a different cozy area was the cherry on the top. Would definitely recommend for food lovers!

The best restaurant in the world! I am in love with their chef with the stuff they r just so good in every measure! Creativity, ingredients, combination, textures.. I find their menu, every menu, surprising in the level of genus. This chef know not only the super accurate way cooking every piece of everything he also know so many products and so many ingredients, his world is so rich I feel richer every time I eat there! their service is also I have to mention unbelievable. Their wine girl (sorry I didn’t ask for her name) is fantastic! I actually never met anyone so passionate like her about wines and that makes her exceptionally professional and exceptionally good matching the wine to the dish/person. So many and much talent in this restaurant! I did 2 and 3 stars including Italy ones, New York ones also, and again, without a second thought, for me they are the best value for money ever. I actually asked for scissors from the waiter and cut 2 stars out of a piece of papers I had in my bag and gave it to their chef. This unbelievable talented guy so humble told me he would give it to the stuff they deserve it. How can u not fall In love. They all deserve it.

We have been twice, and both times we have thoroughly enjoyed it. With a one Michelin star, we believe that it's definitely punching above its weight and it's likely to receive a 2nd star in our opinion. The food is fantastic and the chef does a wonderful job at combining flavours and textures. Too many to mention, but his caviar with blue cheese is out of this world! The service is incredibly friendly and attentive, in a very relaxing atmosphere. The sommelier is a highlight too! She is clearly knowledgeable and puts thoughts on making an excellent pairing to the dishes. The non-alcoholic pairing is also imaginative and thought through. On a side note, the pace of the service and kitchen is perfect. Oak is quite far from where we live (2-3 h), we'd definitely be there more frequently if we were closer. All in all, a wonderful gastronomic!

We came with hopeful expectations and left absolutely satisfied. The atmosphere is upscale but not stiff. The service quick and friendly. The flavor combinations and preparation of the dishes were refined yet not overly wild. While I'm proud of being a decent hobby cook, eating here reminded me like few other restaurants about the difference between an amateur and true professionals. Rarely is a humbling experience such as this as enjoyable. Given the obviously higher price range it's not a place we can hope to visit frequently but it was worth every Euro and we'll at least try to make it again some day. Compliments to the staff and the chef.

Had a fabulous meal at Oak tonight…best dinner I have had in a while. Compared to Publiek & Heritage, where I ate earlier this week, Oak is just better across the board. Better food, better wine, better service, better everything. There is a family feeling to this place, with the chef helping to serve food where necessary, which is a really nice touch. I had many excellent courses on the tasting menu but the best, for me, was the Gambero prawn, hammered into a thin circle and served on a tiny bed of delicious risotto…it was just MINDBLOWINGLY GOOD. This was one of the dishes that I forgot to take a photo of…as it looked so good, I had to eat it right away! I also had the paired wines that were selected by a young lady who clearly knew her stuff…one of her “wines” was actually a delicious local beer. Everything was perfectly matched with dinner though…wished nailed the choices. If you love food, you will love Oak. 100% recommended.
