Visited Oak at the Fat Alley in Telluride and was very disappointed with the food. I ordered the Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich ($17) and the Smoked Brisket Sandwich ($19), both of which came with free sides. Unfortunately, both sandwiches were bland and unseasoned—the meats tasted like they were just boiled and dropped on a bun. No veggies, cheese, or garnish—just plain meat and bread. To make it worse, the bottom bun was soggy and fell apart when I tried to lift the sandwich. For the price, I expected much better. It honestly felt like a rip-off. Only reason I’m giving 1 star instead of none is for the ambiance—great indoor and outdoor seating. But I won’t be back.

OMG, I’m STILL thinking about that shrimp po boy and fried okra! Gall-DANG that was good! 😍 We really enjoyed bellying up to the bar to grab our grub (and what freaking great grub it was) while also having fun talking with the bartenders, servers, and owner. The food, atmosphere, and overall experience at Oak has served as one of our more enjoyable experiences in Telluride. Fingers crossed the space does not get re-vamped into some swank wine bar - or really, anything else - as word-on-the-street suggests! We didn’t discover an abundance of places in the mountain village or Telluride that struck the same combination of laid-back environment, attentive yet relaxed service, and really good food.

This spot is in a great location right next to the gondola. The atmosphere is great. They have great dog friendly patio seating here. The beers were great, as well as the fries. The pulled pork sandwich was okay. It was lacking in flavor, and the bun was soggy. The service was fast and friendly. Great spot to grab a beer and enjoy the town and incredible views.

Great bar and restaurant at the foot of the gondola. Fantastic location, good food and great beer and wine offerings. The chicken Caesar salad was delicious and the chicken wings were as good as promised!

Google
This place has great food and great service, along with some great local beers on tap. We had their Cheese Steak sandwich and grilled Salmon Sandwich, and they were both great and delicious! They have some delicious wedge cut sweet potato fries!

The Chiken Fried Stake is awful, super dry with loaded breading and probably just have 1/8 portion of it is meat. We were here last Spring and we had the same experience regarding food. We tried to give it another try still no improvement.

During our stay in Telluride, we stopped by The New Fat Alley BBQ in downtown—and we’re so glad we did! My husband and I ordered the full stack rib combo for $35, which came with two sides. We chose the okra and potato salad. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, and the flavor underneath the sauce was absolutely delicious. I didn’t love the BBQ sauce—it was more tomato-based than what I’m used to (I’m from Texas, so I prefer tangy with a hint of sweet)—but it wasn’t bad at all. The potato salad was a hit for me, and my husband really enjoyed the okra. One thing I appreciated was their variety of kids’ meal options—from pasta and burgers to ribs and more. Even though the kids’ menu isn’t listed, just ask—they do have one! Two of our kids got plain pasta with fresh parmesan (yes, I’ve got picky eaters!), and our 3-year-old had the kids’ pork rib with fries. All of them loved their food. I wish I had taken pictures, but I was so hungry I dove right in once the food arrived—no regrets! Shoutout to the gentleman who helped us at the register and later served us at our table (we visited on June 29th around 2:15 PM). I didn’t catch his name, but he was so friendly and patient, especially with it being our first time there. Excellent service! Overall, we’d definitely come back the next time we’re in Telluride!

As many others have commented, this is not really a BBQ place. I had the bbq chicken and the generic chicken I get at Whole Foods is juicier and tastier than this. My chicken was a bit tough and dry. It felt like I was eating yesterday's leftovers. The saving grace was the 3-burger slider. Those were actually a bit bigger than expected and they were not dry, but again, the bbq flavor was not there. Meh experience.

Yelp
I feel bad leaving a negative review because it seems like it's a small business owner that takes pride in his restaurant. But my visit today was absolutely terrible. I've been here once before during the coronavirus and even spoke with the owner when it was slow and things were pretty decent, but today was a whole other story. The girl who took my order was very abrupt, and walked by me in front of the bar three different times cleaning up things and not paying attention that I was standing there waiting to get food. Then once she finally came over, she didn't really acknowledge or apologize for the delay. Then after I was done ordering, she says you can tap here to pay. But she never gave me a price and never showed me the screen or anything. So I said can I get a receipt or see what the breakdown is before I pay? And she scoffed at me and sure enough there was a fee there for using a credit card. So I said OK I'll pay in cash instead. Then when she comes back with the change, she shorted me 15 cents and I said hey I'm 15 cents short and she scoffed at me again and gave me a quarter. So the restaurant is now short 15 cents. The whole thing didn't make any sense. The worst part about it all was my cheeseburger was extremely well done, the fries were overcooked and not good at all, and the ribs were subpar as well. I absolutely will not go return.

Yelp
Pros: it's a counter service restaurant located at the base of the gondola in downtown Telluride. The order to eating process is pretty quick and seamless. Cons: I asked the cashier what their most popular dish was and she recommended the pulled pork sandwich. The pork itself was cooked well but the BBQ sauce they use here is terrible. It's basically flavorless. I've had better BBQ at Sonny's. If you go, plan on bringing your own sauce!

Yelp
Food was mediocre and relatively expensive. I would not recommend someone eat here. Service was fine, nice people. I liked the vibe of the place too but the quality of food overshadows any positive aspects. The best thing I had was the gumbo, I would give the gumbo a 4/10.

Yelp
The ribs here were one of my favorites in Telluride. Give this place a try if you're in town!

Yelp
Not a family friendly restaurant at all. What I thought would be a perfect spot for dinner and drinks with my husband and 2 kids turned out to be an awful (but thankfully quick) experience. My 3 year old desperately wanted a churro from the stand outside. When he and my husband came to sit down at the table, the waitress quickly came over and stated that there was no outside food allowed. We explained that we were planning on ordering food and drinks and that he (again 3 years old) just wanted something to eat in the meantime. While I understand not allowing adults to bring in outside meals, she was so rude and ridiculous considering the situation. She said we needed to leave. As we were packing up to go she came back about 20 seconds later stating again that we could not be there because we had outside food.

Yelp
When a local says you have to go to the Oak and get the smoked BBQ wings - you do it! OMG these are shut your mouth good! If only pics could capture the smell and flavor you would jump through the screen and eat them yourself. Service- nice team, order at the bar and sit in or outside. We rolled in after a 6 mile hike, backpacks and all and we fit right in. We ordered 24 and taking home 10 for later and that's aok with me!!! They are very large wings and eat bite is amazing with BBQ sauce covering the bottoms of the bowl.

Yelp
Nice roomy bar-like space. Good food and Labatts beer $3.00!! Staff friendly. Locals atmosphere.
google avatar

Jessie Z.

Yelp
Great bbq, free water, great location, it was dead. Great service. Fries are amazing. Pork ribs tasted like beef ribs. Good drinks.

Michael D.

Yelp
We ordered the full rack of ribs. Decent food at a reasonable price. The cashiers were very friendly. The ambiance was horrible if you sit inside the restaurant. Loud with several kids running around every part of the restaurant for over 30 minutes without parental supervision. The management should have addressed the situation. There are much quieter places to have a meal in Telluride.

Donna H.

Yelp
My husband and I ate lunch at this place. The saint louis ribs were awful, overcooked, tough, and flavorless. The red beans and rice were soggy and more like soup. Good potatoe salad. Ok attitude by staff. Wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Yelp
This is horrible. Sat 30 minutes for a brownie I was pre-charged for -- freaking $8.50 and a $2 tip. WTF?!? They completely ignored us, NOBODY noticed #83 on the table or even acknowledged us. I had to walk back to the f'ing kitchen to ask where our brownie was and in 30 seconds they put it on a plate with a scoop of ice cream - NO "Sorry for the delay." These people are stuck up and not worth a visit.

J F.

Yelp
An easy place to find yourself after a day on the mountain. Ordering food and drinks from the counter makes things go quickly, we got our food super fast! There's good spaces for larger parties or seats at the bar if it's just two of you. We got the smoked wings and sliders. Both were delicious. I didn't try it but others at our table really liked the Fat Alley hot sauce.

Yelp
Very nice people. Underwhelmed by the food... and I was HUNGRY! Look, it's Telluride. You're not getting dollar menu food but I've had better pulled pork at a lower price at most any other place. That sounds harsh and it probably is. It's also the way I felt when all was said and done. Even the BBQ sauce was kind of so so. It wasn't a bad pulled pork sandwich. I just didn't feel satisfied. That was also true for the sweet potato fries. I LOVE sweet potato fries. These were lacking something. I think part of it might've been more cook time. Some went uneaten and that's very unusual for sweet potato fries in my vicinity. The only other thing I'd recommend is a light on the sign outside. The place is very difficult to see if you don't know exactly where it is (right by the bottom of the gondola). OAK was very popular around happy hour. Definitely the place to be for that 1-2 hours by the looks of the crowd so maybe there's something there.

Michael B.

Yelp
Great! Southern BBQ, pulled pork, brisket and try the succotash! Their fat alley hot sauce is sublime. Put it on everything. Super tasty and a good heat without too much! Casual atmosphere, good for groups, and super reasonable! Good drink selection or not, depending on your preference. Service is great and easy.

Christopher T.

Yelp
Ribs were good. Chicken was chalk dry. The drinks were strong. Owner took our order was super friendly. He named a kids menu after his daughter. It was super good.
google avatar

Julianne H.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere and the food was great! I had the BBQ sandwich which was good. The bartender was full of personality! It reminded me of a local hangout. I would most definitely go here again!

Yelp
This is a casual spot to enjoy a beer, spots, and BBQ right near the gondola in Telluride. We had our pup with us most of the time so we really loved that they have a dog-friendly patio! We didn't eat a full meal here so I can't speak to the food but we had some fries and ranch to hold us over and they were tasty + the ranch was DELISH! My husband had some refreshing craft beers and a margarita and liked them both. I had an Arnold Palmer made with sweet tea that I enjoyed! It was perfect after a long hike. This is a fun little spot with friendly service to stop and relax after a hike or to grab a casual meal! Our hotel recommended it as one of the main spots to catch a sporting game too.

Yelp
Amazing fried chicken. Perfectly done and the mashed potato's were flavorful great consistency yummy gravy. This takes longer due to chicken perfection Definitely worth the wait. Staff was also very nice .

Yelp
What you need to know: This place is friendly enough. Order takers seemed to be in good spirits. You order at the counter then find a seat in or out. You can bring a well-behaved dog onto the patio. Food: Once I had Pork Ribs, and they were just OK. Maybe it is just a style thing and I didn't care for their style of ribs. They were not bad, just different. Twice I had CFS and it was pretty good. The second time the meat was pounded out pretty thin. Gravy was tasty. Black Beans and spinach didn't have much spinach. I would have liked more spinach. I really liked the fried okra and the cole slaw. Nice beer menu. The place is fairly clean, considering it is fairly high traffic. Once I find everything I like here, it will be a better option for me. Also, I have changed my diet quite a bit and I'm trying to eat "clean". Fresh, not fired or deep fried. Lots more veggies. Again not fried or deep fried- and starch is not a veggie! Salads with a protein option. Less red meat. More chicken, and a lot more fish than I used to eat, especially salmon. This is getting pretty easy to do back home (North Texas) but not so much anywhere in Telluride. They need to catch up.

Becky O.

Yelp
The pulled pork and sides didn't quite live up to the ambiance. The bbq sauce had more of a Buffalo sauce vibe going on. I loved the ribs, just not the pulled pork. The service was just a little lacking, just a bit slow to bring water refills. The prices were much more affordable than other restaurants in the area. For the area, I just had really high hopes.
google avatar

Yelp
Worst. Food. Ever. Every dish is a crime to the concept of barbecue. Fatty ribs. Dry brisket. Straight vinegar masquerading as sauce. Sides that define blandness. Nothing is properly smoked but boiled in an oven. For a town so popular with second homeowners from Texas how does this place not have a decent BBQ spot? While the name of the restaurant has "Oak" in it, that's the name of the street it is on and not indicative of a complementary ingredient to the cooking process. I also find it telling that the name of the restaurant ranks "BBQ" third after "Beer" and "Bourbon". That's about right. They don't make the beer or bourbon.

Yelp
Ate here twice while on vacation in Telluride. Once for lunch and drinks to watch Women's FIFA match (packed house, standing room only) and second for lunch after a morning of fishing. Food here is excellent. Recommend the Toasted Cheese sandwich as it comes with bacon and green chilies. So good! Our two teenage boys had it both times. Gumbo soup is excellent too. Drinks come quick, servers personable, and highly recommend because a local told us about Oak and I have to pass on the recommendation. Stop in, you'll thank me later.
google avatar

Mark V.

Yelp
Had the BBQ half chicken but it wasn't too bbqey. Seemed like it was held in hot box too long and it was nearly mush. The black beans and rice were Ok but the rice was a bit hard.. Maybe that's how BBQ is done here. Also no server, hafta go to bar for refills and ordering
google avatar

Vinnie D.

Yelp
Telluride overall has only a few good restaurants, but this place was inedible. We ordered a full rack of ribs, two pulled pork sandwiches, kids Mac n cheese, and a chicken tenders. Dropped $120 after tip. Literally didn't eat any of it. We were looking forward to coming here for some good BBQ. Hope they improve

Gabby A.

Yelp
After a long hard day of mountain biking you have to get a pulled chicken sandwich from Oak Beer, Bourbon & BBQ. The BBQ pulled chicken sandwiches were great, along with a mix of reg and sweet potato fries. Great bar, highly recommend anything made with lemonade Deep Eddy vodka. Super refreshing on a hot day.

Yelp
I'm giving a 1 star otherwise will not let me post! Our first time here. We were a group of 7 people. We were looking for having a great dinner and environment. You will go and order at the bar area, the menu is on a black board which appears to be great options. Chicken, pull pork, ribs and others besides the sides sounds great options. I order a brisket sandwich with the choice of black beans. Received my order, brisket tasted as carton board no flavour at all asked for a bbq sauce and they give me ketchup. Asked for hot sauce and not very good option, needed up mixing the ketchup with the Tabasco sauce, and still didn't help the food. The black beans were awful, no flavour at all. Mind you, that was just my food. Drinks were good and cold. As far as environment , I cannot say much about it since it was at the end of the skiing season. Not a lot of people Which was good to enjoy. So, maybe order something else! Do not order the sandwich brisket with beans. And the guy who served us was not very clean on his appearance. I don't know about you but I like to see at least a clean, showered person delivering my food. The end: I didn't eat my food only my drink. Will not come back to this place! Period!.

Walker M.

Yelp
DONT GO HERE. went here for lunch in telluride and was completely underwhelmed. the brisket is not good
google avatar

Miller C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my lunch and the staff at Oak in Telluride, right next to the gondola. The BBQ chicken was very flavorful, well smoked and presented. As a souther boy, I was happy to find that the fried okra side was done perfectly so that it was not greasy or slimy. I also enjoyed the black beans and spinach, which I ordered because i had never seen it on a menu before. The beans had just the right amount of spice and a little carrot added the perfect sweetness. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the chicken was just a touch on the dry side.
google avatar

Laurel W.

Yelp
This restaurant is my favorite in Telluride because it has Eastern NC style vinegar BBQ. A lot of haters posting who are obviously not familiar with this BBQ style. But the rest of us are in Heaven!
google avatar

Gina I.

Yelp
Pretty awesome place. First come first serve lots of shareable tables & bar seating. Gets very busy when the lifts close because it's at the bottom of the mountain. Staff is so nice and the food comes out pretty fast even when it's packed. They don't offer gluten free buns but have other options for the gluten free lovers.

Ada H.

Yelp
The food and drinks and personable bartenders with incredible service!! Can't say enough about this place . Completely underrated. Soooo much better than High Pie
google avatar

Stefani H.

Yelp
We stopped in for dessert only. We had to order at the bar. I asked for water and we were directed to a jug of water that we had to serve ourselves. No ice. We ordered peach cobbler and the brownie. Bartender warned me that the desserts would take 15 minutes. It was not busy, lots of empty tables, but we did not get our desserts for 35 minutes. And then the brownie was way overdone and crunchy. It was like eating rocks. The peach cobbler was extremely bland. Both were served with a very small spoonful of ice cream. Super disappointing. We will not go back. Would not bother trying the food if they can't get the ice cream right.
google avatar

J Jason B.

Yelp
OAK is great. I didn't expect to find one place in Telluride that was reasonably priced. Telluride is a hard-to-get-to ski town and part time residence of the too rich. Yet...here it is- good food, stiff drinks, friendly service, and reasonably priced. Not ski-town-reasonably-priced, just reasonably-priced-reasonably-priced. I had the black bean sauté and a Tito's on the rocks and sat on a comically overstuffed bench. I remember thinking everyone in the whole space was having fun, laughing, and zero vibe from the locals who worked and frequented OAK. Always a bonus in a ski town!
google avatar

Jen W.

Yelp
I ordered the BLT wrap expecting something like a tortilla with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo inside. Nope! It's four lettuce leaves topped with two tomato slices, one piece of bacon, and a squirt of mayo on each. Husband got the nachos and was served a giant plate of cold, congealed white cheese atop doughy, soggy tortilla chips. The sweet potato fries were pretty good, as was my house margarita.
google avatar

Robby O.

Yelp
This place was incredible. Steps from the slopes, cold beer, and Great BBQ. Coming from Eastern NC this was some great BBQ, Best fried okra I have ever had. If you are looking for southern soul food on the slopes this is it. The owner and staff were as friendly as you get. True southern hospitality. This place is a can't miss for lunch and Apre' drinks. Roll Tide!
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Excellent ribs, have visited annually since 2013 - was disappointed by the fried okra this visit - but the sweet potato fries and sauce are outstanding. Delicious.
google avatar

Rhonda S.

Yelp
This place is great, I really like it better than the old Fat Alley because there are more vegetarian and fish choices. It is way more upscale now but reasonably priced, GREAT wine selection. Ceviche is excellent. Nachos were really good too. Love the outdoor seating.
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
I didn't eat here, but wanted to at various points of the trip. Scored a really nice photo though.
google avatar

Marcela M.

Yelp
The staff was friendly, the portions were huge, and the ambience was nice. Our server recommend the bread pudding, and it was delicious!

Jan R.

Yelp
If your looking for good food. DONT come here. My husband and I came in after a full day soaking in Telluride. We ordered the smoke wings, I order the 1/4 chicken and okra, my husband ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs. The guy brought our food out , not friendly at all. Now mind you we are pretty easy to please but like good food. The wings were flavorless and tasted like chicken with a flour coating, no flavor at all. My chicken was overdone and so dry, the okra was burnt. My husband said that his ribs were the worst he had. No one ever came over to ask how things were not do I think they even cared. I say don't waste your money here, go somewhere else. There are to many good restaurants to settle for this one.

Kat J.

Yelp
Being from Louisiana, po-boys are my thing. The po-boy of the day was shrimp. It was on point! The rice and beans were good too. Hubby is from Texas and did not enjoy the brisket sandwich. The sweet potato wedge fries made up for it.
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
This place is great. Full bar, great beer selection. I loved the catfish po-boy and my husband said his fried chicken was awesome

Carol F.

Yelp
This restaurant is located near an adjacent hotel. The gondola is also very close by. The menu has A range of items to choose from. Prices were reasonable. Customers order at the counter and the meal is brought to the table by staff. There were four of us at the restaurant for lunch. We ordered four separate meals and each of us enjoyed them. The meals were brought to the table in a very short period of time so there was very little wait. The interior tables and seating areas were very clean.

Will H.

Yelp
Stopped in here with my family after a day of visiting Telluride Resort. The food was excellent and all the staff was very friendly. Have a wide range of menu items to choose from. I had the seafood gumbo and it was spectacular. We also had the bacon grilled cheese and it was also delicious. They have a nice outdoor seating area and lots of TVs inside to catch the game.
google avatar

Walt B.

Yelp
Great location, good food, horrible staff! Such an attitude of "I don't care!" I really wish they would get a different job instead of ruining an otherwise good experience.
google avatar

Nate B.

Yelp
Hands down the worst bbq restaurant I've been to. The sauce was like ketchup. I've had better bbq at Applebee's....yeah Applebee's. BBQ is a craft and this place clearly doesn't care about the quality of the food they deliver.
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
This bar is the place to go if you like dogs running free inside begging for food! The ribs were not very good and very fatty. My companion couldn't his ribs. Beans arrived cold at table I sent them back only to comeback the same. Wouldn't recommend this bar. Very loud inside couldn't carry on a conversation.
google avatar

Derek G.

Yelp
Service is always great! Quickly became my go to place for Sundays since football season has finally kicked off! Tons of space and T.V's and lots of small plate options for the games! Good job Oak!
google avatar

Kelli D.

Yelp
We tried this spot out since it was so close to the gondola. They get 2 stars for great service but the food was not good. It was very plain, not a lot of flavor and bottom line, just bad. There was nothing unique or special about it. There were a few items they tried to make "special" and really just ruined them. Skip the food and stick to the beer and bourbon!
