Great airport for plane spotting, rare permanently parked FedEx Boeing 727-200 around Oakland Maintenance ramp. You can take closeup photos of FedEx planes at the UPS employee parking lot, a lot of MD-11 , 757, 767 and 777s as well as business jets passing by.

Never have an issue at this airport. But the best thing about this airport is the free short story machine in the hallway by gate 20. Don’t forget to stop by and get your free short story on your way in or out. It’s an easy little kiosk where you just push a button and there it is, a little short story to read on paper while you wait for your flight. Incredible. Every airport needs one of these.

My favorite Bay area airport for sure. Quick to get to your gate or to baggage claim. Clean and convenient! Just updating to say this is still the best Bay area airport!! Clean, accessible, fast, comfortable, and friendly. Love OAK!! New update: not just the best airport in the Bay area. This airport is the best, at least West of the Mississippi. Keep it up OAK!!!

flew here early morning and it was a beautiful view landing

Google
very quick and easy experience, a smaller airport but even when it's busy it's pretty smooth getting from point a to point b

This airport usually isn't crowded and has plenty of seats everywhere. It's more like a domestic airport and most flights departing or arriving here are Southwest Airlines flights. A small number of international flights go to Mexico and South America. There's free but somewhat slow WiFi. Food is expensive here, as you'd expect, but all the businesses charge an additional 5% fee for employee health benefits. There are a few interesting art pieces scattered around. Overall, it's a decent, little airport. It's great for what it needs to be.

I honestly hate big airports and this one was smaller so gates were easy to find — it’s literally just a strip. They’re currently renovating, but it does not interfere with the walkway and looked pretty organized. Usually airports are busy and everyone kinda rushes you along, but the staff here are helpful and nice. Had a 5 hour layover in Oakland… I know, crazy, but it was the cheapest flight and I got some work done. There are bigger tables (smaller conference tables) that people were working on full spread, but I just ate at one of the restaurants and worked there. It wasnt too busy, but after about an hour-ish people were pouring in so I decided to just try and work at my gate. Giving 4 stars because the seats are so uncomfortable at the gates and most of the outlets do not work. A couple of us were taking turns with one outlet at gate 6 because it was the only one that seemed to work OK and even then was charging so slow.

Although the security check line was long, the TSAPre proved to be useful and it cut short out wait time to a few minutes only, enabling us to spend more time having Peets coffee in terminal 2.

Yelp
Oakland Airport is my favorite airport since I live in the East Bay. It's so convenient compared to crossing the Bay Bridge to SFO and paying the toll, and it's a much shorter drive than heading all the way to the San Jose Airport. I mainly fly Southwest, which operates out of Terminal 2. Aside from the very first flights in the morning, the baggage drop-off lines are usually super fast, which makes the experience smooth and hassle-free. If you have TSA PreCheck, the line is also incredibly quick and is conveniently located right next to the bag check area. There's finally a lounge in Terminal 2 that accepts Priority Pass, which is a nice addition for frequent travelers. Plus, the airport has a BART stop, making it even more accessible if you're traveling without a car. Overall, I've generally had very positive experiences at Oakland Airport. It's a great choice for anyone in the East Bay looking for convenience and efficiency.

Yelp
December 20th with Southwest Airlines at Oakland Airport was traumatizing. After we went through that hellish experience of slowing snaking through the Southwest Airlines bag drop off line, which only had 2 to 3 employees for the hundreds of people if not 1000+ people in line, we got to the tsa line. On this unfortunate day, Oakland Airport only had two tsa people checking IDs for the regular line. Two?! I've seen 3, sometimes more than 3 tsa workers checking IDs on a slow day. Why two for the busiest week? At one point they went down to only one tsa person checking IDs. It was so annoying to watch. Half the time this single person was busy with the people who cut the line because they desperately paid for the Clear program. Then when they had two tsa people, the other person was still mostly preoccupied with the Clear program people who wanted to skip the horrible line. What is our $5.60 per ticket security fee paying for? I don't mind people skipping the line because they paid, but I do mind tsa only having 2 people for the busiest holiday week. Then it didn't matter that there were two tsa ID checkers really because they only had two xray scanners going for carry on bags and everyone had to zipper combine into one line for the body xray. 1 body xray machine going??? This whole experience was awful. I understand airports are busy during Christmas week. They tell you to arrive at least 3 hours early during busy season, but when they don't have the appropriate amount of staff it is extremely frustrating to witness. Dozens of people if not more missed their flights. I've never seen so many people running through the terminal. Several guys were running in their socks with their shoes in their hands because they didn't have time to put them back on after tsa. Corporations are extra horrible these days. The minimal staffing, the horrible customer service, the awful treatment of their workers. Everything is going downhill. I will avoid Oakland Airport as much as possible in the future. I wish SFO had better flight destinations and times for my needs because I would much rather fly out of SFO.

Yelp
5 stars for being my preferred airport in the Bay Area. My go to airline is SW and this is a great hub for wherever you want to go through them. Getting dropped off by car is quite easy. You can also take BART and use the connecting tram that comes every few minutes. Security line is usually on the shorter side being able to get thru within 5-10 mins. Once in a while during peak times it's closer to 20. They got the new machines where you don't have to take out your electronics. There's only one terminal so every gate is somewhat close. There's a priority lounge there (I haven't had the chance to check it out yet). All around it's easier to fly in and out of this airport for if you need to be in the east bay!

Ericka G.

Yelp
Smaller than LAX but a hell of alot quicker. Areas to charge your electronics. Check in is super fast and every employee was really nice yet thorough. The whole process and kiosks made traveling hassle free. There are restaurants a d vending machines for drinks and snacks and of course always a bar. Plenty of crowd less bathrooms and spacious wait areas before boarding. If traveling could always be this simple

Mary K.

Yelp
Had a great experience flying with South west airlines! The Oakland airport is clean especially the bathrooms great shops and places to eat! Love

Dominic B.

Yelp
Smooth departure process through OAK. Dropped off at Southwest. Bag check in process was smooth. Tag your own bags and drop it off. A bit of a long line at security with TSA Pre taking about 10 min. Also smooth process. Did have to take off my jacket and vest which I notice tends to be inconsistent across TSA Pre as some require it and some don't. Southwest gates were quite a distance walk away though, basically at an entirely different terminal from where Southwest drop off is. Clean airport with easy to navigate signage.

Charlene E.

Yelp
Easier at times to travel through than SFO and smaller. I recently flew in and had no issues, however flying out was an issue as I nearly missed my 5am flight. The airport does get packed and took me about 30 mins to be dropped off at my terminal once we arrived at the airport due to heavy traffic.

Thania M.

Yelp
Flying Southwest, I really appreciate the Skycaps...alway tip them. Hardworking, friendly. They definitely make checking my baggage super easy. Very busy for such a small airport. Get to my gate every seat taken by either a human or a bag. Got my coffee at Subway as Peet's line was 20 deep. Ready to board, no delays!

John F.

Yelp
For me Oakland Airport is great for us. It's close to home and it has all of the major airlines. There is plenty of parking but we use Uber to get to.

Edwin R.

Yelp
Easy airport to fly in and out. Catching Uber or Lyft is right outside. Not far from baggage claim. Nice service all around from all the staff. Flew out here for business during busy Easter break but the lines moved quickly. There's Peet's coffee for us coffee lovers which is a plus. Plenty of parking adjacent to the terminals. The escape lounge is available and opens early. Access for all with a fee, or complimentary with AX or Delta Sky Miles with AX. Overall, great experience. Cheers!

Courtney O.

Yelp
This airport is a little tough. Overall, convenient and I love that it provides another option in the bay so you can compare prices between OAK and SFO. Getting through the airport security is quick and the gates have a good amount of space, even if they aren't as new as some other airports. What makes this airport tough is the rental car situation. The shuttles are slowww so you've gotta plan for enough time! The rental car area is also a little far from the airport. On my last visit, I landed at 9am, but wasn't able to get my rental car until 10:30am. I like that there are water refill stations within the airport, but the last time I came, the water was purifying or something so they weren't working. Overall, a pretty mid airport.

Yelp
Its OST (One Star Tue) again!!!!! I have flown into OAK many times. When my parents were still alive, they lived in Alameda and OAK was very convenient. I have committed to visiting friends & family in the area at least once a year, bc it is a short flight fr So CA to OAK. Nonetheless, the shitty experience I had with the rental car shuttle on Fri, 8/16, as well as no benefit for TSA Pre in Terminal 1, leaves much to be desired. The first shuttle was full. So a family & I made a line where the previous bus stopped and waited for the next shuttle. The second shuttle overshoots us and stops in front of peeps who arrived after us. There were so many peeps I couldn't get on the shuttle again: I was pissed! A third shuttle arrives and once again there is no designated line: I was fuming!!!!! I said fuk it and ordered an Uber. It cost me $25 w/ tip to get to the rental car station. Secondarily, you get no benefit from TSA Pre or Clear in Terminal 1. Everyone lines up in general population. The TSA screeners are the slowest I have ever experienced. You have to put your luggage in a tray, and they expect you to put your tray away after being screened. I have never seen the foregoing at another airport. Fuk U OAK!!!!! You idiots need to run more shuttles, or have staff to organize a queue so peeps get on the shuttle in the order they arrive at the pick up spot. Secondarily, travelers pay for TSA Pre & Clear. There should be a separate line like Terminal 2, or other up to date airports. This kind of mismanagement is why the city lost the Raiders, Warriors & A's. In addition, mismanagement is why peeps don't know that it is closer to fly into OAK to get to DTSF vs flying into SFO. It took management a gazillion years to add SF to the airport name. Doh!!!!!

Yelp
I have flown into Oakland a few times and am never really impressed with this place. There are two terminals, one being mostly being a Southwest terminal. For some reason, I always end up at the furthest possible gate when arriving or departing. To get to baggage claim or ground transport takes a pretty long walk if you are at the furthest gate. Food options are pretty scarce or over crowded. There are no fast food options if you are looking for a quick bite other than a Subway. The bathrooms are not the cleanest and everything needs an upgrade. I ended up going to a new pizza place that costed an arm and leg for a mediocre meal at best. They don't have a rental car center at the property, so you have to grab a shuttle to the not super close rental car center. The busses have always been very packed every time I have used it. They definitely need to add more on the route to alleviate the congestion. Overall just a terrible airport in my opinion. Sometimes it is cost effective as opposed to flying into San Francisco, but with the price of tolls just to get into San Francisco, I made as well pay the extra dough for convenience.

Kevin K.

Yelp
I had a 3 hour layover here and was honestly super surprised at how nice this airport is. Shame on me, but it being in Oakland I'd expected it to be, different to say the least. The terminal we were in was generally spacious and had lots of windows, many of which had beautiful views of the ocean and city. The reason I give 4 stars were the lack of food options. I walked the whole terminal and there just weren't very many places, and even less variety

Katie P.

Yelp
It was pretty dead by the time our delayed flight arrived here, but it's a clean and well designed airport where upgrades have been done, especially for powering up devices. We would gladly fly in and out of here again. Some decent restaurants where we could get some vegan options. Not all airports have that. Signs are clear so you have to work at getting lost.

Cydney F.

Yelp
The check in was excellent. We dropped off the rental without hassle and as soon as we walked out the shuttle was there to take us to the terminal. We arrived at the baggage check in, printed out luggage tags and went straight up to the counter. Once bags were checked in we went thru security. There were a few people in line but didn't take us more than 10 mins and we were completely done.

Amber Y.

Yelp
Easy access and the police run a tight ship here too. Tons of shuttles to your hotel and rental car drop off.

Kathleen C.

Yelp
Not a thorough visit. A layover from Ontario ca to Kauai Hi. The bathrooms are clean, peeps are friendly.

Yelp
On a recent visit to reunite with my pseudo siblings during Labor Day weekend, it was agreed we'd meet up in Oakland and then drive to our final destination of Lewiston. In the olden days when I'd visit my maternal family who live in Oakland, I would fly into San Francisco International Airport but I was advised to utilize Oakland International Airport (IATA known as "OAK") as one of my pseudo sibs lives only 5min away from the airport. I was impressed there were multiple airlines which flies from Honolulu to Oakland and the fares were indeed competitive. I selected Hawaiian Airlines and overall, my experience at OAK was memorable. Built in 1927 with air cargo, aviation and private jet traffic, in 1962 OAK further expanded their operations with cargo jet aircraft and commercial planes. Major airlines, such as American, Hawaiian, Southwest, Delta and Alaska fly in and out of OAK. I found the facilities at OAK to be bright and well set up as it was easy to navigate myself throughout the airport. The airport seemed on the smaller scale in comparison with major cities that I usually travel to but it was efficient. So why not 5-stars? When I flew out of OAK to return back to Honolulu, the TSA staff were borderline rude where I almost spoke my mind. I had my hand carry items go through the X-ray and followed the guys in front of me. I waited for my turn as one of the guys had an item that exceeded the restrictions and had the option of checking in the luggage and pay the surcharge or have the item of issue discarded. When it was "my turn" the agent barked at me asking if I'm with the other guys and when I advised him I wasn't, he again barked at me asking why am I standing there and for me to go. I was never advised I was clear of leaving the screening area and I sure didn't appreciate being barked at. Overall, a relatively great experience utilizing OAK where I wouldn't mind flying into this airport again. Clearly it was much smaller than the airports that I'm accustomed to with much less foot traffic and options of shopping and eating. But clearly the airport is well organized and I appreciated the less foot traffic which brought down the stress level and hence my experience was comfortable and relaxing. 2023 #75

Yelp
Good airport and lots of flight options here. I flew Southwest today for business. This airport had all of the normal terminal stuff like the others. I will say that the restrooms are pretty well kept, with REAL toilet paper (unlike St Louis Airport). They have a couple of places to stop for bites and drinks. When I arrived in the morning they had a "taproom" place that seemed to be serving breakfast (the smell of onions filled the terminal). On the way back, a group of us stopped at a cool wine spot that also offered food. I will review it separately, but it is a GREAT place. The information desk staff in this part of the airport (Gate 25) was very helpful, and guided me to the meeting space hotel shuttle. Their instructions were clear and I was able get right to the location for pickup quickly. The TSA Pre Check & CLEAR here is different. NORMALLY, at other airports, they walk you up to the agent, give you a TSA Pre Check laminated pass, or let the TSA Staff know that you are CLEAR, and they allow you to walk right through the scannners, after placing your bag on the scanner to be checked. At THIS AIRPORT, they do not escort TSA Pre Check nor CLEAR customers to the TSA agent. Also, there is no laminated TSA Pre Check pass nor CLEAR acknowledgement. YOU MUST go through the scanner like everyone else who does not pay for these services. The benefit here is only that you get through the line a little bit sooner, but not much. They should work on that. Why do we pay for this special clearance for TSA Pre Check and CLEAR if we have to take off our shoes anyway? The airport is basic and the people who work here are courteous.

Winnie W.

Yelp
Easy airport to zip in and out, and OAK is a Southwest Hub, offering plenty of flights. Smaller airport makes for faster security checks and easier maneuver to gates. Always appreciate OAK

Jodi C.

Yelp
Yohana at SouthWest check in is wonderful! Love her ! The TSA woman agent took my whole violin apart instead of sending it thru the X-ray. And it made me cry to hear her scratch my violin with her wand. I have never felt so helpless at an airport. Just send it thru the X-ray twice like every other airport!!! Musical instruments are worth more than thousands of dollars. They are sentimental too, and part of a musician's body. They need to be treated nicely and not handled so poorly. Please !!!! I will be stressed and anxious about this for the rest of the day and I hope it will be okay and that I can get over this violation before tonight's rehearsal in Wichita !!! 4 stars for cleanliness of the airport. 4 stars for the refill water bottle station even if it's too slow & kept stopping. Bathroom was in need of care. No stars for TSA. Five stars for Yohana at SouthWest check in. She is top notch!!

Darwin P.

Yelp
As an airport, Oakland is small, simple and easy to navigate compared to SF Airport. You'll make your flight as long as you make it on time. Inside the airport, you got plenty restaurants, cafes and bars while you wait I even got a little souvenir while I was here

Ivan B.

Yelp
Oakland International Airport is another airport, where I think it's a good transportation option to travel domestically just like SJ Mineta Airport. Not really difference between both airports, but I imagine that this airport is like the one in SJ Pretty much they have good restaurants and shops. Airport is sanitized and kept clean. Expect to be much foot traffic especially on the weekends. Also have a safe flight when you get here!

Carolen M.

Yelp
Just another quick update on Oakland International Airport. Although it's my preferred airport, it's not the most convenient for me so I typically use San Jose International Airport for most domestic flights and SFO for specific international flights. The one thing that I've noticed is that the airport itself is safe, but if you're coming to visit with rental cars etc and need to stop by shops, restaurants, etc. in the area, it's not so safe. So just be careful and hide all things inside your car or bring your luggage in with you wherever you are. Aside from that, OAK is a great airport. As I mentioned in previous reviews, delays here are fewer than the surrounding airports. So that's why I do prefer this airport. Airport drop off and pick up is relatively convenient but don't linger as the security will not want you to be idling. There's a park and call on the way to the terminals which is helpful when waiting for arrivals of loved ones (or perhaps not loved ones). All parking is uncovered so prepare with umbrellas if needed. Beside that, your standard airport that's convenient if you're closer to it. Just adjust time coming to and from this airport as 880 can be a nightmare during peak commute times.

Brian H.

Yelp
For the first time it was smooth, easy in and Roth through tsa - 4 minutes - with tsa precheck

Matt M.

Yelp
Flying into OAK is normally pretty smooth. Quick deplaning, and the airport is organized pretty well. Whenever I'm picked up here, it's quick in and out. There's a nearby cell phone lot, which is convenient. I've also rented a car from here - pretty smooth. You need to take a short shuttle ride to the car rental area. The lines go slow, but the car I got was pretty good. I was warned as I left not to park in the area because of all of the smash and grabs that were happening. I'm not surprised, because it's Oakland, but it was still a little unsettling.

Renny K.

Yelp
Terminal 2 is so hot!! No air conditioning!! Not cool! Go to SFO if you want to stay cool.

Anton F.

Yelp
The Oakland Airport has made several improvements recently at the terminals. From new/additional restaurants, decor, security screening and brightening up the place. Flying out or coming back makes for a better experience. The Southwest Airlines terminal 1 and 2 includes local and nationally owned shops and restaurants throughout the walk ways. Skycaps are conveniently located at the gate entrances. TSA screening and CLEAR are assessable at check in. Considering the size of the terminal, would be helpful to have the walk way trams back but overall easy to navigate

Matthew H.

Yelp
I recently had the opportunity to fly out of Oakland Airport for a trip to Honolulu, and while the airport itself had its merits, I must say that the lack of food options was a disappointment. However, my experience at the Southwest gate was pleasant, making up for some of the shortcomings. Let's start with the food situation. As someone who enjoys exploring culinary options before a flight, I was hoping to find a diverse range of dining choices at Oakland Airport. Unfortunately, I was met with a limited selection that left much to be desired. The terminal I was in seemed to have only a handful of restaurants and cafes, and most of them offered basic fast-food options. However, once I made my way to the Southwest gate, my experience improved. The gate area was clean and well-maintained, and the staff members were friendly and helpful. Southwest Airlines' boarding process was efficient and organized, ensuring a smooth transition from the gate to the aircraft. I appreciated the clear communication and the boarding groups, which made it easy to understand when it was my turn to board. Despite the limited food options at Oakland Airport, I must commend the airport's accessibility and convenience. The terminal was well-signposted, making it easy to navigate and find my gate. The airport also appeared clean and well-maintained, with ample seating areas for passengers to relax before their flights.

Kris N.

Yelp
This is my 2nd time flying out of this airport. It wasn't my choice to fly here but there were the k me ones I could get a direct flight with for my needed dates. Anyways, they don't have real TSA precheck here. They put you in the same line as everyone else and just give you a card to hand security. They also only have Clear at terminal 2 where southwest is. All other airlines are in terminal 1 and don't have access to Clear. This trip I'm here on a Saturday and all of the check-in bag counters are closed til 1130. That's kind of ridiculous for an international airport.

Manesseh I.

Yelp
Easy airport to navigate....of course we live Southwest! Great option for those who love to travel to Sonoma Coast/Napa area! Stop in at Vino Volo for some extra love and good vibes while you wait for your flight..

Amy S.

Yelp
Small airport with a dedicated terminal for Southwest. Overall a good experience. They did change our baggage claim conveyor belt once we arrived in baggage claim. Our flight arrived early despite leaving a bit late. I would choose Oakland airport over SF any day! I hope they eventually offer more direct flights across the country!

Jim P.

Yelp
We were robbed while filling up tbe rental car at the Chevron station. The thieves brazenly drove up to our car, opened the car door, and stole our backpacks with travel papers and valuables. Terrible and traumatic experience. We had to cancel our trip and lost a lot of money! We were lucky not to have been killed. The airport and businesses should issue warnings to innocent travelers. The police came to our aid and confirmed this was a problem area! They are short staffed. Stay away from this area.

Angelina C.

Yelp
I spent 5 hours at this airport and spent way too much at the one kiosk at baggage claim. Once you exit, there's no food for those of us waiting a few hours for rides or shuttles. (Yes, I said hours).

Jewelia C.

Yelp
The name change is absolutely ridiculous. So many people are going to accidentally book to the wrong airport all because Oakland Airport wanted to save face and have SF in the name when the airport isn't even in SF. They did a nice remodel of the TSA area semi recently but if you're traveling into SF there just really isn't any reason to pick this airport over SFO except maybe lower flight cost. But even then you could make up for that in a Lyft/uber across the bay bridge into SF and risk traffic on the bridge too. Really nothing great or unique about this airport, just fly SFO!

Rachel K.

Yelp
I've been through the Oakland Airport a few times now, on our latest trip I was heading to the midwest with friends. We ended up driving there from Sacramento and left the car in the lot. When we parked we decided to walk to the terminal, instead of waiting for the transportation and that got confusing... we couldn't quite figure out where the exit was on foot and they could definitely use extra signage. It was early morning and dark as well, so that didn't help. We made it through security pretty quickly and were able to find seating and snacks (coffee was a must) while we waited for our flight. Oakland wouldn't be my first choice, especially since the Sacramento airport is so close to home, but it's not a bad option if you're in the area looking for affordable flights.

Bernardo S.

Yelp
Not sure if this temporary but just a tip for TSA pre check peeps. don't expect to be quick security screening. The line for TSA pre check is separate but the security screening merge with regular security screening un like sfo where it has its own dedicated line. For people like to go to airport last minute.

Michael C.

Yelp
OAKs on you. I flew in and out of OAK in early May 2023. 1. Yes, it is quite a small airport. Much smaller than I was expecting quite honestly. 2. Yes, there are food places and stores, but I would recommend buying (if you're able to) any food and snacks for the plane before being dropped off. Like most airports, the prices are sky high, especially for food items. 3. Yes, arrivals and departures are on the same level (which I thought was quite interesting for a mainland airport). This was also an aspect that was unexpected. 4. Yes, the TSA agents (in my personal experience) are not very personable or polite. My carry-on was searched for an item (a wine opener I bought in Napa) and was eventually confiscated (totally my fault, I have no one else to blame but myself) because it had a blade. The female agent was quite sarcastic (IMHO) when she suggested I should go back to the ticket counter and "check it in". Needless to say, I just allowed the item to be taken and was on my way. 5. No, the suitcases/baggage did not come out in a timely manner on the baggage carousel upon arrival at OAK. I thought by the time I deplaned (I was sitting way in the back) and used the bathroom that my suitcase might be already on the carousel. No such luck. When I finally made it to the baggage carousel, it wasn't even turned on! I think I waited another 20 minutes before I was reunited with my suitcase. B O T T O M L I N E A not so friendly flying first-time experience at OAK.

Everett L.

Yelp
Oakland Airport stands out as an excellent choice for Southwest flights, offering both efficiency and affordability. The airport's streamlined operations often result in swift TSA lines, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience. With a focus on quickness and budget-friendly options, Oakland Airport proves to be a top pick for those seeking convenient and economical domestic flights within the United States.

Paul R.

Yelp
I like the oakland airport- the surrounding areas kinda suck. But 10 min away is park street alameda - so I was able to go to yi fang and pick up boba. This airport security generally moves pretty quick. I like these smaller-ish airports because they have a lot of flights but way less standing. On the flip side their food selection isn't the best. Still 4 stars for speediness. I think the planes even fly faster out of this one (just kidding)

Kay V.

Yelp
Can you please go to silent airport technology! I'm begging you! There are even boarding group announcements in the bathroom! Now I'm sitting at the gate, they've already announced at least 5 times to gate-check your bags at TOP VOLUME! It really does make a difference in stress to constantly hear these super loud announcements. Thank you for listening (if you are)!

Lisa A.

Yelp
OAK is a Small airport, like the Bob Hope (BUR) airport in Burbank so, it has its pros and cons. *Pros* - no long lines when checking your luggage - security checkpoint has been easy to go through - catching a rideshare is easy, no shuttle's needed *Cons* - only one Flight/Gate information screen located in the back of the terminal, near gate 11, so, it will be terrible if you're in a rush trying to confirm your departure gate. - The gate agents from multiple airlines talk over each other so it's very easy to miss your boarding details having to fight over what information to filter out. They need to fix this - Not a lot of food options, probably since it is a small airport Overall I would recommend this airport as opposed to SFO for the ease of it. And it is less crowded

Honestly the lines here have gotten shorter since the Raiders left Oakland. Security moves much quicker and there's way fewer rowdy fans milling about! I used to take a Sunday flight out after a game and it would be packed! TSA is super efficient here though and all the Southwest airline workers I've encountered are very nice and always go the extra mile for the elderly. No complaints about this airport!

Yelp
Very easy airport to navigate signage is very clear. Lots of restaurants and shops. The walkway is very wide to walk from gate to gate.

Yelp
Such a mixed review so please read for an honest, loyal customer. I'm easily in and out of oak 8-10 times a year. Loyal southwest customer here. 5/5 stars ALWAYS for pre check. It doesn't matter if it's 5:00 am or 5:00 pm. Super efficient. Or maybe the people who are pre check know how to pack and don't mess the lines up. Not sure. 4/5 new flooring and seating area. Super clean and wide spaces and plenty of plugs. 2/5 food options. Lacking options. I see several options under construction but it's been at least a year almost to the date and no progress. 1/5 bathrooms. Step it up. Doors still open inward. Almost impossible with a backpack and roller bag. 1 out of 4 sinks actually had soap ( Near gate 24) paper towels over flowing, cheap toilet paper. Needs attention. No locks on a few, seat coverings in a gross spot.

Yelp
I feel like this airport gets a bad wrap because of the location and before they renovated it, it used to be crap. I think they have done a lot of upgrades to the terminals where it isn't so bad anymore. I have TSA pre-check and I have never had an unpleasant experience with TSA here. I'm a flight nanny and they all typically love seeing the puppies I'm flying when going through the metal detector so like I said, I've never had a bad experience. I do think they can have better amenities and better restaurants to eat at when waiting for your flight but they've come a long way from before. Like I said, it's not a great location being in Oakland. So much crime used to happen on 98th (exit you take to get to the airport) that they closed the Starbucks and Subway that was located on that street. The other thing is the street itself needs to be repaved so bad! But Oakland seems to be neglecting the condition it's in. Overall, convenient and easy airport to get to and use.

Yelp
Getting better every year! The renovations have really improved it. And thankfully they were forced to get rid of that dumb name change.

Yelp
Heading back to SoCal! Flight's been delayed an hour and a half. Hopefully leaving soon.
