The 13 Best Restaurants in Fairbanks, Alaska | Eater

"What used to be the northernmost Dairy Queen in the U.S. is now a bar and grill that offers, among other things, one of the best breakfasts in Fairbanks. Both the eggs Benedict and the biscuits and gravy are culinary triumphs, and the full bar can supply you with that 11 a.m. bloody Mary you crave. The Oasis also does a fine lunch and dinner service — burgers, steaks, curly fries, that sort of thing. It can get a little crowded and loud on the weekends, so plan accordingly." - Kris Farmen

Google
A very tasty bloody Mary! Great service and very helpful when we had people coming and going in our group. Food came out and was delicious. I tried the pretzel eggs Benedict and would highly recommend. Will definitely back!

Matt Nelson

Google
Great service, great food, good beer selection. Finally found a new go to! Best fish n chips in town so far. None of that greasy smooth liquid fry beer batter. White and fresh tasting without the previously frozen flake texture

Google
Food tasted great and our server was very friendly :)

Google
I really enjoyed my experience here. Great beer and liquor selection. The bartender Carolina was knowledgeable about all of the spirits and beer that they had on tap. She was friendly and engaged me in conversation. Music was good. Not too loud, but loud enough to enjoy. Bar was quiet when I got here, so the bartender let me choose what was on TV. Super chill good place to kill time while I waited for my flight.

Google
Eggs benedict was amazing and the Greyhound was just as tasty. The staff is so friendly and i loved the coffee. You should go here if in Fairnanks

Google
Great local place with fabulous burgers and vast selection of beer! Service was above and beyond, sooo friendly.

Google
Gaaadaaayuuuuuuummmm.... this food is excellent. I had the Philly omelet and my buddy had the corn beef hash. I asked for crispy hash browns which were indeed crispy! The omelet was hot, seasoned beautifully and so good. Their rating is bullshit. 5 starts all the way.

Google
Excellent halibut & chips! The fried pickles are really good as well! Our server was incredible! Never had to ask for a refill for drinks. Incredible for the price!!

Yelp
Good pub grub. Great service and the food comes out pretty quickly. Access can be a tricky not being able to turn left north bound university.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise. We were looking for something besides the usual free hotel breakfast for our last day in Fairbanks. The Oasis is located off University Ave and close to our hotel. Our rental car was not due back until 11 so 8 am breakfast it was. The food and service were wonderful. The Cordon Bleu Omlet was Great! Very friendly place and it made a great start to our day.

Yelp
We found this place by accident---happy accident--and had lunch there one day and breakfast on another. For lunch, I decided on the halibut melt, since I had never seen it on a menu before. I would describe it as a grilled cheese sandwich that contained a nice piece of grilled halibut. It seemed a bit salty, but otherwise, very tasty. For breakfast, i ordered the Oasis omlette (without the sausage), hash browns, and an English muffin. The omlette was so tasty, full of veggies (onion, bell pepper, black olives, jalapeños, mushrooms, and tomatoes) and topped with cheddar cheese. Very yummy and filling. The Oasis has a slight "divey" vibe, but with its friendly wait staff and down home cooking, it's filled with locals. Casual with table service and good, down home cooking.

Yelp
In Fairbanks? Don't miss out. Truly delicious. We had Stormi and Daria for servers. I had the Ruben and my partner had a hamburger no cheese. We shared onion rings. She got a diet. I got their porter. I asked for lightly toasted bread- I got it. I asked for a delicious Ruben. Not only did I get it, it was one of the best Rubens I'd ever had. They make their own corned beef. It was perfect. This restaurant needs more respect for what it has done to remake itself.

Yelp
Food was decent but the staff were incredibly rude and didn't acknowledge my friend and I at the waiting booth for 10 minutes. Then when we were addressed it was rudely and like our hostess couldn't be bothered.

Yelp
My wife and I enjoyed our visit to the Oasis R & L twice during our stay in Fairbanks. The first breakfast visit I had their traditional Eggs Benedict and my wife had an eggs and hash browns dish. Both were cooked perfectly and were delicious. Our second visit consisted of an order of Biscuits and gravy topped with an egg and a plate of corned beef and hash. Not only were both dishes delicious, we can honestly say that they both were the best dishes of each that we have ever had in our lives! The ambiance is a bit of the dive bar vibe, but in a friendly, clean sports bar way. The service was excellent! We could not have been more satisfied with both of our visits!

Abby T.

Yelp
Looks like a dive but the food is amazing. The server was friendly and prompt. Make this a stop.

Yelp
There weren't too many options available for lunchtime since it was 3 pm and many of local restaurants in this area were closed so we decided to give this a chance. The building and neighborhood seems run down. The restaurant seemed like a dark dingy place with poor air conditioning. Floors and tables were unkempt. The server got the menu cards that were wiped with some stinky cloth and the menu card itself was wet and the whole thing smelled SO bad, so the moment they landed on our table, it was a huge turn off for me. We ordered breaded mushrooms, veggie burgers, chicken burgers and the halibut melt. The fries were good, mushrooms were ok-good. Service was quick. Mushrooms were served super hot so be careful before you pop one into your mouth! The veggie burger didn't seem like it was vegetarian - not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing, but for a vegetarian person it may not be palatable. I have tasted many meatless meat burgers and this one tasted exactly like meat. Would have preferred a veg burger that tastes vegetarian! The chicken and fish burgers were good. Prices were reasonable. Shout out to server who was very nice, patient and actually went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. I pointed out that there were 2 unattended dogs in a car in their lot and they made sure that they were ok and taken care of.

Yelp
The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is because we came for the breakfast and we really really wanted the corned beef hash but sadly.. they were out. We came at about 10-11 am so if you want their best items I'd say go early in the morning. But other than that their service is very good, everyone is super friendly. The food was simple but delicious. I love the experience, I will be returning for sure !

Yelp
As others have said, Oasis is exactly that, a hidden gem in what I've otherwise found a fairly lackluster dining scene. Don't let the look fool ya, the food and drinks were top shelf. Dining alone, I was easily spotted as an unfamiliar tourist as I grabbed a seat at the end of the bar. The server/bartender was familiar with all of the other diners. She pleasantly asked my name (so maybe next time I won't be a stranger.) I ordered a bloody mary and coffee to start. For breakfast, I asked the server for her preference, salmon or crab benedict. She recommended the salmon so salmon it was. The bloody was perfect. Nice spice, even flavors. Could have certainly had a second. The coffee was a pleasant surprise... rich, bold and hot. Not what I'd expect at bar. Now onto the benedict... oh, man, was this delish. Eggs cooked perfectly with no runny white and ooey yellow. The salmon was plentiful and muffin nice and crispy underneath. Just a perfect bite. If I had any criticism, the home fries were ordinary. Could have used some onion and peppers in the mix. (Order the home fries, I did the next day and wasn't disappointed.) All in all, a delicious all around breakfast.

Yelp
We have since gone here for dinner and they do some killer Philly cheesesteaks! Several varieties. All good! Good appetizers also! We've had fried pickles and pretzel sticks. It's a fun spot for a quick bite to eat.

Yelp
The most rude and unfriendly staff We've come across during our visit to Alaska. Just for how dismissive, off-putting, and condescending the waitress and the manager have been, this place deserves zero stars. The waitress was dismissive and rude, saying, with ample irritation, "you notice how busy we are", as if that's an excuse for not coming to take our order for over 20 minutes after we were seated or for never checking in on us. The space is very crowded and super loud--a typical dive bar. Very few tables available for sitting besides the bar, which takes up the most of the tiny space. Utensils were dirty. The tables were dirty. We waited for our food for a reaaaallly long time. Unfortunately, this is one of the very few places that's open on Sundays, so there's always a line of customers waiting for tables. The food is mediocre. Typical fast-casual fare like fried foods, sandwiches and burgers available. Very high sodium content. Prepare to drink a lot of water after your meal.

Yelp
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS, DO NOT COME HERE. Came in on a Tuesday night around 10pm. Thought the place looked promising from the pictures, however... we walked in and got nothing but unwelcoming looks. The kinda looks that say "What are you guys doing here? You're not part of our crowd." Anywho, my family and I were the only asian looking people there and ill leave it at that. Upon waiting for someone to greet us or direct us we saw a woman entering the building eating an ice cream cone and mingling with the others that were inside. Apparently this person was the bartender, or at least i assume so since she eventually made her way to the bar. We received no welcome, no service, not even an instruction on what we need to do to get food. I honestly feel like this was just a local spot that doesnt take kindly to outsiders. Either way, i would never come back.

Yelp
We live in a supposedly "foodie" town in Oregon and every time we come here it makes us angry that there's nothing like this where we live. Good food, lots of delicious beer on tap, reasonable prices, and friendly service.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Food looked so good didn't have time to take a picture for for a review, this is all that is left of a burger. Customer service was great. Nice dive bar feel.

Yelp
This is a great choice if you love Eggs Benedict, as they make 4 versions, one with real crab (absolutely delicious), smoked salmon (my fellow diners liked this one), Canadian bacon, and spinach & tomato, all with rich, smooth, yummy freshly-prepared Hollandaise sauce. They come with home fries, but you can sub with fruit cocktail, cottage cheese or sliced tomatoes. The half order of crab is about $10; whole order, about $16. Another friend ordered the Doc Gooding, a dinner salad of fresh greens (thankfully not iceberg lettuce!) alongside grilled halibut strips. Not an Eggs Benedict fan? The extensive menu includes many other palate-pleasing options from breakfasts to dinners. I drooled as an order of their decadent Stuffed French Toast went by. It's stuffed with cheesecake filling and topped with fresh strawberries and whip cream. Our server was excellent. She also works at another Fairbanks restaurants, and generously made suggestions for other places and menu items we might enjoy. Most notable were the dessert selections at The Cookie Jar! nother plus is the array of draft and bottled beer available, several of them local favorites (I posted a photo listing them). The Oasis is small and looks somewhat like a dive bar...not at all fancy...but I'd consider it a must-go among Fairbanks eateries. All Fairbanks restaurants are non-smoking.

Yelp
This is certainly a dive bar, complete with rude and unhelpful staff. The food is very unhealthy, bar food. It obviously becomes a pretty rowdy bar at night. The cleanliness level is questionable. We went here for breakfast and lunch on two separate days. I got their reindeer sausage classic breakfast with sunny side up eggs. The eggs were very undercooked and the rest was pretty underwhelming too. Our lunches were better but super junk foody. My Philly cheesesteaks was HUGE and loaded with cheese. It was a lot of food and the fries were very tasty. My husband really liked his pork tenderloin with honey mustard added. If you're looking for junk bar food, this is your place, just don't come expecting good service. Their bloody mary's were really good too, get that.

Yelp
We came for breakfast. Both of our meals were delicious. The Farmers Omelet had a lot of items - I had to take some home. Service was great. Would definitely return
google avatar

Karena H.

Yelp
Service was amazing! She was quick to listen & help, wish I got her name. Food..oh my goodness, best flat iron steak sandwich I've ever had in my life! If I'm being honest, this did not need a side! Pretzel & beer cheese is my weakness and I wish this was close to where I live. Anyways, do go & check this place out! Good selection of local beer on tap.

Yelp
I've been coming to the Oasis since I was a kid. It used to be bright and cheery and interactive, now they serve poorly made food, the service is aggressive and rushed and there's no communication and might I add very petty and disrespectful. I have never been so revolted by a restaurant's cleanliness until now. Sauce bottles have residue and floors are unwashed. Someone spilled their drink and everyone was walking through it. When served a mimosa it was just juice (as well as the Bloody Mary's). I am so sad to see such a wonderful little restaurant get turned into a dump based off poor management, lack of work ethic, and sour staff. I avoid coming to the oasis regularly now that it's not a place full of fun conversation, friends, and music.
google avatar

Shivansh C.

Yelp
One of the only places in Fairbanks which had a veggie burger Available so that's much appreciated. Though all the food was just frozen food which was prepared and served so I believe a bit more effort could be put into the food. The quick service was nice as well.
google avatar

Kristen A.

Yelp
We assumed based on the number of cars parked outside this had to be a great little dive bar for some lunch and a few drinks...and we were right. Clearly packed with locals (always a good sign) the oasis had good service and solid bar food. He had the philly cheese steak (at our servers suggestion ) and I had the patty melt. Both yummy, clearly someone in the kitchen knows what their doing. The drinks were strong and served in clean glasses, always a plus. The bathroom could use some work...I've never actually seen a toilet missing the lid to the tank in back. It worked but seemed like an odd thing to go missing. I'd go back for sure. There aren't a ton of options in this little town and this joint didn't disappoint at all.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Great greasy spoon and divebar combo! We went for lunch/late breakfast. Their specialty seems to be their cheesesteaks. I got one in breakfast burrito form. It was pressed kind of like a Panini, which I really enjoy. Service was above average, prices were good for Alaska, coffee could've been topped off a bit more frequently. I'd love to come back here and do shots.
google avatar

Alicia P.

Yelp
Yep this is a dive bar. The food we had was very good. I had the chicken fried steak with gravy. The gravy had a great flavor and just enough of it. The chicken fried steak was cooked to perfection. My husband had a cheesesteak breakfast burrito. I tasted it yum. Also had French toast very good. My husband ordered a Bloody Mary, it was very good and spice was perfect. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We might be back while we are in town and being our family.

Yelp
So this is a challenging review for me. Because I put a lot of weight in my reviews on a few different criteria. 1: Cleanliness. 2: Service. 3: Response to any issues or special requests if there are any. 4: Food. Taste, Value, Presentation, Options. I will say I chose this place for our breakfast with visiting family, solely based on reviews of some likeminded diners that I have seen. That being said, I knew we were going to an establishment that was largely a bar, so I was clear on that part. But when we went to the entrance, there was frozen vomit right outside the door..........perhaps we should have just left and gone to The Cookie Jar? But we didn't. Like I said, we knew it was a bar as well and honestly that happens....however....it seems like perhaps it should have been cleaned up? Hazards of the job, I get it....but really...it was a bit off-putting. Upon entering, we were greeted by very nice people. Our server was sweet, accommodating and efficient. Three of our party ordered Chicken Fried Steak with Biscuits and Gravy, eggs and hash browns, and we were all highly satisfied with our meals. Our eggs were cooked precisely as ordered. We enjoyed the flavor and plating of our biscuits and gravy. The coffee was good. Two of our party ordered Biscuits and Gravy and they did NOT like it. They complained of (afterwards, since we were all raving about how good our meals were...LOL) upset stomachs and disliking their meals on every aspect, except the hash browns. They commented that those were cooked well. The restrooms were 'clean', but very old and unkempt. Which I get being an older building...but the toilet seat was only attached on one screw, so the seat slid around. It wasn't the worst restroom I've been in, and I DO use restrooms in restaurants to gauge overall cleanliness, but I won't take away from the overall here, because it was clean appearing, just old and cheap feeling. One note I will say is, my water glass (red plastic cup) with no ice, had a greasy film on top of the water. Awkward. Another note....my aunt found melted plastic on her plate in her meal....again....awkward. I mean, honestly, it wasn't a great place for our family to go back to. And later, about an hour later my stomach started hurting...and I was queazy, so, even though I DID enjoy my meal, I don't think it was the highest quality of food. I so want to say NICE THINGS all about it, but mostly because the server was incredibly sweet and I want businesses to succeed..especially with COVID. I would love to feel like I could make these comments directly to the business or owner and it make a difference. But I'm not even remotely hopeful that that would be the case. It's kind of 'it is what it is' out there. And the disrepair of the building/furnishings is indicative enough that they are happy with their clientele that disregard these kinds of things. Again, this is the reason I am actually being so detailed in my review, so people honestly looking at places to spend their time and money can have a clear picture. Reviews and Experiences of establishments often leave me saying 'There's no accounting for taste' in the essence that really, I am only giving MY opinion and sharing MY experience and my expectation can and do shift and flux depending on an establishments main focus, hence very lenient on the fact that this is a 'bar' atmosphere, but also, there are too many issues that 'diners' should consider. I wish no bad or loss of business for this place, and would love to hear of improvements and such, in the future. But beware, my foodie friends, and be blessed.

Yelp
The Best Biscuits and gravy I have ever had anywhere! So good! If you love a good dive bar with great food and friendly staff I recommend this place.
google avatar

Bill H.

Yelp
This bar small friendly place that serves up a good breakfast you will leave well fed

Rachel A.

Yelp
Fair prices for pretty good food. My husband and I go there pretty frequently (about once a month) and it's pretty consistent. I always get the half order of classic eggs benedict while my husband usually gets the farmer's or Denver skillet. So far, no complaints! My egg benedict is always hot and fresh. The hollandaise sauce is possibly the best that I've had in Fairbanks, similar to my mom's (though my mom used the packet from the grocery store, so do with that what you will,) bottom line: it's really good. A half order is typically the perfect portion for me, but I could eat a full order if I were famished. The home fries are good, too. My husband said his skillet was delicious, but a little too salty from the ham, the sausage, and the hash browns but once he mixed it, it was better. I'd definitely recommend coming early though on the weekend because they're usually packed by 10:00am since they are one of the better restaurants in Fairbanks. Overall 3.5 out of 5!

Jenna B.

Yelp
Great service, great food. I had the Nashville chicken sliders on pretzel twists. They are delicious and have a great crunch with a nice heat. The cole slaw was yummy, and I'm kinda picky about my slaw. Will definitely be back!!
google avatar

Dakota P.

Yelp
When hungry and lost in a desert of mundane options. One could easily mistake the Oasis to be a mirage, a simple dank bar lacking any kind of edible food. Fear not! You aimless search need go no further. I was able to both enjoy an amazing Philly Cheesesteak and the rowdy bar banter simultaneously! So if you're looking to get your drink on and combat an inebriated hunger that usually follows. Then this is the place to visit.
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
What a great restaurant. We ordered the stuffed French toast and two different omelets along with a Bloody Mary and Margarita. The food was exceptional and for a good price. Do not let the outside fool you. This may look like a dive, but some of the best food, like Oasis, is where it is at. Thanks Krista for the great service!!!
google avatar

Jennie S.

Yelp
OMG! This halibut sandwich is to die for. All yummy and melty. NOT fishy at all! The perfect healthy comfort sammich! Have it with a bowl of soup and you won't regret it. The atmosphere is happening on a Friday night. My Hot Toddy was amazing and the service was great! Daria was our server and she hustles! Whoa! This girl has this place under control. Very impressed!
google avatar

Chelsea E.

Yelp
Really disappointed! I've been coming here for years and getting the Philly cheesesteak. We drove all the way from North Pole tonight because I was REALLY craving one... and when we get home, I have the worlds skimpiest sandwich super bummed
google avatar

Betsy A.

Yelp
Server was rude. Food was fair to awful. Coffee was horrible. I went in wanting to love this place even though it looked seedy. Reuben sandwich was salty with 2 small chunks of corn beef on each half. To be fair, the potato salad was the best part. The veggies in the omelette were chopped so small they were almost paste. Not any place I'd ever recommend or eat at again.

Samuel D.

Yelp
This place is very disrespectful the manager was very rude over a burnt toast!

Chris S.

Yelp
The food and drinks are really good just want to let everyone know they do not support local military
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
Drinking too much late last night in dive bars in Fairbanks? Then you need Oasis for breakfast. Unfortunately, the gal working was the only one in the front and she was slammed by us and others. Their Bloody Marys took a good five minutes. Then she took our orders and the Mimosas too ten minutes. I had an omelet of some sort, which was supposed to come with toast that never arrived. My friend also didn't get his toast. The omelet was good, the home fries were good, but the gal was just too slammed for us to hassle her for more food. Maybe it's not always like this. She seriously needed some help.

Lora S.

Yelp
First time in Fairbanks and this place came out to visit. We were starving and came to Oasis. I have to say, it's a local breakfast/pub. Parking lot was full and tons of place to park. Inside, it's not a big place but super homie. They breakfast selection is good and when our food came out, it was tons and delicious. A definitely great choice we did. The place was super pack. Krista (I think that's how it's spelled) was super friendly and so attentive. She definitely is super woman. My omelette was so huge that I couldn't even eat half of it. And the pancake big and fluffy. Enjoy the food and atmosphere. And say hi to Krista
google avatar

Chelsea G.

Yelp
We were itching for a Bloody Mary and found the oasis through yelp. It's a bar with great food! We got our Bloody Mary fix and had a great brunch as well.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
Great small town atmosphere! This is undoubtedly a locals type of place but very welcoming. They have a pretty diverse menu as well. I went in to have some beers and appetizers with a friend. It may have the best chicken wings in town as far as I'm concerned! The service was just right as well; not too attentive, but just right! The setting reminds me of an old Perkins with a Bar/lounge, but don't let that turn you off. Give it a shot!
google avatar

Kim C.

Yelp
We ordered the crab eggs Benedict and was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. The hollandaise sauce had great texture and flavor. The potatoes were average, nothing to write home about. The omelet was mediocre at best. Very large serving but lacked any flavor. Seemed like neither the eggs or the toppings had any seasoning/salt. The hash browns may have looked crispy, but it was a soggy oily mess. The Bloody Mary was decent. Service sucked. Not sure if we would return... if we do, it would probably be just for the Benedict.
google avatar

Samie L.

Yelp
We ordered here for brunch today. Me and 2 other people in my party all ordered the ribeye with 2 eggs breakfast. I don't know what kind of cut the steak was but it sure wasn't the ribeye I know of. It even came with steak sauce... good steak doesn't need sauce. I took 2 bites and threw the rest out. Everything even the containers were covered with grease. The other breakfasts that were ordered were also covered with grease. I have eaten here in the past before and their burgers are okay sometimes. Not happy with the overall taste and appearance of the meal.
google avatar

Carrie P.

Yelp
A dive bar if there ever was one! Kitchen closed at 10pm but the bartender made fresh coffee for this night owl vampire and it was surprisingly tasty. She offered me my choice of regular or flavored cream and the regular was real. Turned out to be a fun spot to chat away the evening.

Amy N.

Yelp
Oasis is a hole-in-the wall restaurant/bar (hence the subtracted star) so we were quite surprised to find out that the food was FANTASTIC! Our lunch at Oasis was one of the best meals we had on our visit to Alaska. I'm still thinking about those pretzel sticks!
google avatar

Marcia E.

Yelp
Stopped here because the parking lot was full! We were in an Uber going to the airport to pick up a car and passed this place. The parking lot was full so I knew it was either good or cheap. We made a beeline back there for brunch and were very happy we did. I get the same ole same ole, eggs, toast, potatoes and these did not disappoint. My husband got the Eggs Benedict and he said it was wonderful. We both also had Bloody Mary's and they were wonderful. Everyone treated us like a long lost friend and we had a great time talking to the staff and other customers. I would definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Randall B.

Yelp
Really enjoyed breakfast. Reindeer omelette was good. Biscuits n gravy not as good as in the south, but decent. 2 days later - Crab asparagus omelette with hollandaise sauce was good. Love the potatoes

Pat U.

Yelp
Dive like atmosphere. Bar side has that scent of stale beer. Dining side is your typical nondescript restaurant. Breakfast menu selection excellent. Plenty of choices served promptly. Serving sizes quite ample.
google avatar

Aimee C.

Yelp
We came to FBX for a one-day vaca and Googled the "best bloody Mary's in town". The Oasis was the #1 hit and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Hot diggity dog. The Bloody Mary's: great flavor and spicy pickles .PS: all you need is one, but we had two to be sure . The server, the vibe, the chickens wings and fries were all . And trust me on the wings, I'm from New York. 5/5 (or 12/10) would recommend, this is our spot. - Aimee & Lindsay ‍

Yelp
We had breakfast here, it was great and service was friendly! The outside just looks like a bar but go on in I don't think you'll be disappointed
