My friends and I decided to try this place out after getting dinner in the U-district. We walked into the rather large restaurant on a Saturday around 9:30 PM, and I felt like I just walked into some sort of sports bar that you would find at a ski resort in the middle of nowhere. I don't know why but that felt a little weird to me, and I wasn't a big fan of the decor. Maybe how big it is made it lack the intimacy and comfort of the boba shops that I was more accustomed to. However, the place was poppin, and there were a lot of UW students gathered around at tables, just talking or hanging out. There was also a pretty long line, and we waited about 10-15 minutes to order our drinks. There were large TV screens showing some football game, so it made waiting in line more bearable.
Beyond the boba tea, Oasis also serves hot food. Although the fried chicken and the french fries did not seem that appetizing and reminded me of theme park (or ski resort, if we're keeping the earlier analogy) food. They did have an interesting selection of teas though, many of them floral-- like lavender or jasmine. But since it was so late at night and I wanted to sleep eventually, I chose to get something that was non-caffeinated--- the wintermelon juice tea. I've ordered this drink at other locations such as ShareTea, and have enjoyed it, so I thought that was a good move.
IT WAS NOT A GOOD MOVE. BECAUSE IT WAS WAY TOO SWEET. LIKE, IT WAS THE SWEETEST THING I HAVE EVER TASTED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. The wintermelon juice tasted like sugar water with 80% sugar and 20% water, and there was no option to adjust the sweetness of it. I took a few sips before the sweetness started making me feel kinda sick, and I had to dilute it with water before it was drinkable. The boba itself was passable, since it was soft and chewy enough. I guess I got double my $5's worth of watered-down sugar water......
This seems like a great place to hang out in a group of friends and to have a good time. It's a bit loud so I probably won't recommend doing work here. I'd like to come back and try something else one day-- I may have just not ordered the right drink-- but I also would like to give all the other boba places in the U District a try first.
