Believe me, folks, I know restaurants. I’ve seen the best Mexican food, the worst Mexican food, and some things that claim to be Mexican food, but this is a very special case. Very special.
Where the great, wonderful Campichi Bay once stood (a real tragedy, by the way), we now have Oxana Club. They took the old tasty and replaced it with décor. Beautiful décor. Tremendous décor. The kind of place Instagram absolutely loves. The food? Not so much.
The ambiance is great. Really great. Music, lighting, vibe—strong, powerful vibe. But then the service and food show up, and folks… total collapse.
We were a big group, celebrating. Happy people. The restaurant was almost empty and it still took forever to get served. Unbelievable. Some of us lost patience and went to the bar just to get a drink. That should never happen. Ever.
The appetizers arrived eventually. Chips and dips, and the guacamole, I didn’t think you could ruin guacamole, but they found a way. Very creative. Very wrong.
Now, let’s be fair. The fish tacos? Far from Excellent. One full star just for the fish tacos. They earned it.
The steak was good, but honestly, if I want a good steak, I don’t need a Mexican restaurant. Any cantina, any grill, any place with heat can do that.
It took so long to get our food that we canceled dessert and left. Just left. Sad ending.
And then I realized something important: it’s easier to get a five-star review from the Instagram audience than from people who actually know Mexican food.
Two stars. Beautiful room, weak execution. Bring back the flavor, bring back the speed, and maybe, just maybe, we can talk about three stars someday.
